Latin

What was the Latin project you asked user:Jowfair about? --Iustinus 00:35, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Um... you're welcome, but I'm not entirely sure how I've helped you. --Iustinus 20:50, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was more curious than anything. I would certainly be willing to help you, if I can find the time. I did take a quick look at the page, and noticed only minor errors... nitpicks even. If I get a chance I'll correct some.
Oh, and btw, my screenname starts with an i not an l... it has nothing to do with lust :P --Iustinus 18:14, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your welcome to the Latin wikipedia, what don't you understand about "these things"? --Iustinus 22:22, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not mad, I'm just not sure what you mean. --Iustinus 16:28, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I understood that. It's just that you said "But maybe you didn't realize, i don't know how these things work :)", and I wasn't sure what that meant. I mean, if there's a specific problem, there's a chance I would be able to help ;) --Iustinus 19:51, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No no, I knew who you were. I don't think that's any reason not to send the welcome. More to the point, I only just made that welcome template a few days ago, so I'm eager to use it whenever possible ;) --Iustinus 16:04, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I've been getting increasingly busy lately and probably shouldn't be wasting so much time on wikipedia to begin with. I should take a look at your lunae maria page one of these days, though, like I said I would. --Iustinus 17:13, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if my quick use of the copyedit tag on Latina (Madrid) was offensive. I thought the article would have benefited from it, and somehow didn't realize you were still editing. –Mysid(t) 10:16, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ladino

Hola Gaudio,

Saludos, Hauser 12:04, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ok, thank you for the clarification. Now, from what I've seen (which admittedly isn't a LOT of Ladino), 'usted' is not used at all. Tu/vozótros is the pretty much standard way of referencing each other: I think part of this could be due to the fact that Ladino speakers are a close group and don't really traditionally use the same polite forms. Vos only occurs in the accusative case from what I have seen. Hope that is of some help! Hauser 14:27, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, plus I think a lot of the time the passive 'se' form is used as well when being polite. It's possible there is a way of doing it that I've never heard, so I'll ask someone next time I see a Ladino speaker on the Ladino Yahoo Group. About the Chinese, that's good to hear (and yes I agree it's very hard!). What operating system do you use? The best way of turning pinyin into chinese characters is using the built in language thing, but si estas usando Linux o otras sistemas, tienes que obtener una programa como 'NJ star' (http://www.njstar.com hay ediciones gratis en la red ;D). Saludos! Hauser 01:22, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Gracias, Hauser 12:10, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ayuda con los artículos sobre España

Hola, Gaudio, soy Garcilaso.

Según el artículo, hoy día Castilla se divide en Castilla la Nueva y Castilla la Vieja, y luce frases como "Castilians are known as the inhabitants of those regions of Spain where there is no regional identity which conflicts with that of "Castilian". --Garcilaso 10:56, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Estefan vs. Estéfan

Regarding your edit to the article Gloria Estéfan, please do not replace articles with blank content as this is considered vandalism. It looks like you wanted to create a redirect instead. Cheers. --PeruvianLlama(spit) 20:45, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The best way of dealing with an incorrect (yet still popular) spelling is to create a redirect to the correctly spelled article. So Gloria Estéfan should redirect to Gloria Estefan. And if it were a popular misconception of how Gloria's name were spelled, or even a popular typo, we could have Gloria Estephan redirect to Gloria Estefan as well. Redirects are cheap, and if it helps even a few potential Wiki-readers find what they're looking for, then it's worth it. Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 07:34, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oscar de la Renta

This is the English Wikipedia, and Oscar uses the English spelling as the name space article was before your move to Óscar de la Renta, so I question this. Even his logo and signature do not use the form you have moved the article to. The redirect, it seems to me, should be the other way around. Comments? Doc 15:14, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that you would be correct for Castillian usage, but the guideline for article titles on Wikipedia is the 'common' usage most prevalent and/or what the person uses. I have never seen him use this form personally or in business. As such, at most it should be an alternative in the article as the name origin, and a redirect from Óscar de la Renta to Oscar de la Renta for the rare person that might search for it that way. Consistent MoS here on the English Wikipedia would still, I believe, dictate that Oscar de la Renta should be the article title. Doc 23:07, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As I have said before, I do not question the 'correct' if here were living in a country using Castillian, or perhaps even in the Spanish v. of Wikipedia. I am only stating was is correct by standard usage on the English Wikipedia. If he used the foreign form here that would make a significant difference, but he does not, as I have stated before. Thanks for your understanding. Doc 02:12, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know that I really consider myself 'famous' but a friend thought I should be listed and started the entry based on what she knew and my user bio here and on Find A Grave. Yes, I've been in medical research, sleep research to be specific for almost forty years, but have always loved history and had used Wikipedia as a resource for several years. When a friend of mine was picked up from his obituary in the New York Times, here on Wikipedia, but didn't have an article yet, that started my contributing. Now I'm hooked!
While I understand that English is language based, not a national project, as I understand it one of the cornerstones of naming articles here is 'common usage' and/or what the person themselves use. On that basis, I did change the title back to Oscar de la Renta with the redirect from Óscar de la Renta, but I did leave the opening name in the article which should be the full name as Óscar de la Renta. I hope that this balance is acceptable to you.
For instance the title of Bill Clinton's article is not William Jefferson Clinton, it is Bill Clinton, which is the common usage. The opening line of the article has his full name and his name at birth. Does this make sense? Hope so, and good to dialogue with you. Doc 14:54, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure that I understand quite what you mean to be something different. I try to check my spelling for clarity. If you would like to dialogue further, how about clicking the link to email me from my user page and we could discuss further. I'm also very interested as you contribute in Spanish and French, both of which I can read and understand some, but am not adequate to write clearly. There are several articles that I would like to see included in those languages. Thanks, Doc 18:15, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When I click your 'Email this user' it says "This user has not specified a valid e-mail address, or has chosen not to receive e-mail from other users." That link on my user page should work, others have used it and when I tried it right now it links to the email form for me. Doc 20:24, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

's after z

I would recommend using "Lopez's" in all situations. Current usage in the case of names ending with s (such as my name: James) varies. Both James' and James's can be considered to be correct. Personally I have a strong preference for "James's". With names ending in z, where the pronunciation is /loupezis/ most speakers would write Lopez's, and that is what I'd recommend you do too. Accent marks

You've done several page moves to add accent marks to several people's names. Unless the person is commonly credited with an accent mark in their name, these changes are not correct. Above, Doc has already explained why you shouldn't do this, but you haven't stopped. So I am asking you now to please stop or you might be crossing into vandalism. It would be nice if you reverted your changes (i'll be reverting some anyway, but there are quite a few to do). Also, please read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people). Thank you. Crumbsucker 10:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that your intentions were not malicious, but we have to follow the naming standards on English Wikipedia. It's fine to create a redirect with the accents, but the formal article names have to follow the rules. Crumbsucker 11:05, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Concha Buika may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own. The Wikipedia community welcomes newcomers, and encourages them to become Wikipedians. On Wikipedia, all users are entitled to a user page in which they can describe themselves, and this article's content may be incorporated into that page. However, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. Jibbles | Talk 14:05, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When I spotted the article it appeared to be covered by WP:NN as a non-notible artist. The criteria for speedy deletion is "an article about a real person, group of people, band, or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject", and I didn't believe that the article asserted any importance. I therefore nominated it for speedy deletion, but the admin who checked it disagreed and it wasn't deleted. Having looked deeper into the topic, I see I was mistaken. My apologies. Reverting incorrect page moves is not vandelism

Neither is doing a page move that conforms to the MoS. Placing a false warning on someone's user talk page is vandelism, tho. Especially an unsigned one. You need to accept the fact that you are wrong and move along. Crumbsucker 00:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Ramírez

I see that back in May you moved the article on serial killer Richard Ramírez to the version with an accent.[1] I don't see any sources which spell the name that way, or any discussion of the change. Do you recall what your source was? -Will Beback · · 05:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. "Ramírez" may be a common Spanish name, but the subject of our article was born in Texas. Do we have any source which gives his name with an accent? -Will Beback · · 17:26, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good answer for the general surname. However my question is not about the original surname, but about the actual usage in regard to Richard Ramirez, who was born and lived in the United States. Other than this article, I have never seen his name spelled with an accent, and WP:NC says:
  • Generally, article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature.
The more specific Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) says:
  1. the name that is most generally recognisable
  2. the name that is unambiguous with the name of other articles
I think that "Ramirez" is more recognizable as the subject's name than "Ramírez". Some proof is that within Wikipedia most links to the article use the unaccented name.[2] If the subject were Spanish or Latin American I can see that an accented name might be more widely used. But I doubt that this particular Ramirez ever used an accent. -Will Beback · · 01:27, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I've posted a question at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (people)#Accented names to seek input on the general issue. -Will Beback · · 01:37, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the accents are appropriate and proper then I'm all for having accents. But if there's no accent on a person's birth certificate, for example, or their screen credits, or their book covers, or websites, then why should we add it to their bio in Wikipedia? There's no evidence that the person Richard Ramirez ever spelled his name with an accent or that anyone else in English-speaking world ever did either. Names change, especially among immigrants to the U.S. If the consensus of sources have the spelling without an accent then it seems more correct to follow that spelling. Otherwise we're using Wikipedia as a soapbox, proscribing instead of describing. -Will Beback · · 10:44, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: British Sign language

Hi. I removed it because the movie is not in sign language. There are a few lines of dialouge that are in sign language, but I don't think that's enough to call it a sign language film, any more than having a few lines in French makes a film French language. Kolindigo 19:14, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can't speak for The Exorcism of Emily Rose, having never seen it, but I disagree with your statement that all the movies which have even just a few sentences in a given language can be included in the category. Four Weddings is an English language film that has some dialouge in sign language. Listing it under sign language makes it seem like the entire movie is signed. Furthermore, all the signed dialouge is subtitled, so it's not like you need to be able to understand sign language to watch the movie. Kolindigo 23:16, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but I still don't see why Four Weddings should be classified as a British Sign Language film when there isn't more than ten minutes of signing in the entire movie. Kolindigo 23:51, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Gaudio. In a similar query, I'm wondering if you (maybe backed by some Wikiproject) are starting the task of including every language occurrence in all films' infoboxes? I see the point of doing so if a film is split telling its story in 2 or 3 languages (by all means no limit if significant), but not everything overheard or subtitled in a film. It makes infoboxes terribly long and mistakenly gives the impression of listing dubbed versions.. It just seems the sort of thing rather mentioned in a Trivia section if there were notably many languages featured. MURGH disc. 22:05, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll continue responding to you on this page since it is where it started.
Yes there are long infoboxes although the point isn't to make them as long as possible. The big problem is that it is a misrepresentation of the main language of a film. Right now, Raiders is listed in a category as a French-language film, which it just isnt. -MURGH disc. 22:36, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Having your own page deleted

If you create a page, and before anyone else edits it you decide to have it deleted, like what seems to have happened with Category:Afgan_Buddhists, please put a {{db-self}} at the top of the page, in stead of blanking it. This will attract an administrator to it to have it deleted. Eli Falk 11:14, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thalía is not Greek

From my research on all the posts on this article, there is nothing that indicates she is Greek (please see talkpage). An anonymous IP made the changes to all her family. If you read any bio on Thalía, she was born to Mexican parents. I forget what happened to her Dad but her Mom remarried a Greek. On the basis of the unreliable edits to all her family and the info on her talkpage, I am going to reverse your edit. If you can find a citation to prove, then that will be a different matter.

Paulina Rubio and Madonna are not Yogis

You clearly don't even know what a Yogi is. That is obvious. Madonna is not worthy of such a title, neither is Paulina Rubio.

Well, you tell me I'm right, in the article of the category you can see that you can put any person who practise yoga, but a yogi is sth more than that, and you had Madonna in that category. Gaudio 17:55, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Óscar

Hi there! Just a quick note on the spelling of Oscar (eu, Oscar Ruggeri). In Spanish, most those names are accentuated in the last syllable, not the first one, and are thus spelled Oscar and not Óscar. If in doubt, leave a message in the article's talk page. As a general rule, in Argentina it is (almost) never Óscar. Take care, and good wiking. --Mariano(t/c) 12:26, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oscar* is a mistake due tu several limitations in computers and typewriters among others when a word should be accentuated, Even the pronunciation /Os'kar/ can be considered a wrong pronunciation due to this issue. But in the end you can accentuate those names as you wish, first because in official documents names are not accentuate, and secondly because the articles you guys have misaccentuated are articles which deal with football players, and in my opinion, those articles should not be in an encyclopaedia. Gaudio 22:17, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In Spanish Oscar is NOT a mistake due to computer limitations. And in Spanish, official names ARE accentuated, but only when they need to, and Oscar is not one of them. In Argentina, Oscar is pronounced osCAR, and has no written accent at all. Please, stop moving those pages because the proper spelling doesn't include an accent. --Mariano(t/c) 17:08, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's not true, in my ID there are no accents in my first family name, for instance. The correct spelling of this name is Óscar, Oscar* is a great mistake due to what I told you. I don't care you misaccentuate those articles, in my opinion they sho~uld not be in an encyclopaedia. If you want to know a little but more about misaccentuation in Castillian, you can read my user page in Spanish wikipedia. Gaudio 15:03, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not about spelling, it's about the guy's name being Oscar and not Óscar. In Argentina the name is Oscar without an accent, and that's what people have in ther IDs. For instance, Oscar Galíndez has the accent in the lastname, but not in the name, simply becase the name doesn't have one, even if you consider it a mistake; thats the real name of that person, without the accent. --Mariano(t/c) 18:57, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Croatian language

Gaudio, this comment on this edit of yours [[3]] is insult.
Second, you don't know Croatian language, as I see on your userpage.
How can you speak about an language if you don't speak it nor understand it?
Third, Croatian language has three dialects.
". In short: Croats are the only speakers of Chakavian (subdialects with Ikavian, Ekavian and Jekavian speech) and Kajkavian (subdialects with Ekavian and Ikavian speech) dialect. Shtokavian dialect also has more "subdialects", that can be referred exclusively to one nation. Slavonian Shtokavian (mostly Ikavian speech) is spoken exclusively by the Croats. East Bosnian Shtokavian (mostly Jekavian speech) is spoken among Croats, Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks) and as minor, among Serbs (on the mountain Ozren). Kosovo-Resava Shtokavian (Ekavian speech) is spoken exclusively by the Serbs. Zeta-Sanjak Shtokavian (Ijekavian speech) is spoken mostly by Montenegrins, Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks) and Serbs. Bosnian-West Herzegovina-Dalmatian Shtokavian (Ikavian speech) is spoken exclusively by Croats. Dubrovnik Shtokavian (Ijekavian speech) was in past an individual, today is more similar with East Herzegovina Shtokavian (but still has its "specialties"). East Herzegovina Shtokavian (Ijekavian) is spoken by the Serbs, Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks), Montenegrins and Croats. Vojvodina-Šumadija Shtokavian (Ekavian speech) is spoken exclusively by the Serbs. Torlakian dialect doesn't belong to this group. In fact, this is a ...interdialect, transitional from Serb language to Bulgarian and Macedonian language. Exclusively spoken by Serbs. There's a small enclave of Croats in Romania that speaks with this dialect, but that doesn't change the picture, that's the dialect of Serb language. So, you see, it's not the case that "Croatian is just a dialect."
If you don't understand linguistic matters, as it is obviuos case, than, please, don't mess. Deal with relations of Spanish, Gallego and Portuguese. Why don't you have b*lls to provocate Portuguese with "they are a Spanish dialect, that's a linguistic reality".
Calling Croatian as part of "Serbocroatian" IS an heavy insult for Croats.
Or you think that you're more Croat than Croats themselves?
My behaviour "can be considered an insult for some people"? Whome, child? I only disturb someone's fake world built on lies.
With that what I've done on that category, I can show that to anyone in Croatia and walk freely. But with that what you've done to that category, if you show that to anyone in Croatia or Croat-inhabited areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, you won't be to able to walk freely there, without thinking what really bad may happen to you.
Gaudio, think twice before you write something. Kubura 18:49, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to speak a language to know about its history, and the category was created because there were fims categorisied as Serbo-Croatian language films directly. Gaudio 18:22, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're not getting me, Gaudio.
Maybe such matters aren't insulting for Galicians and Portuguese (I know very well that they belong to the same group). You still haven't told me what would Portuguese say if someone call them as Spanish-speaking? And call their language as Spanish (because it developed from an vulgarized dialect of Spanish)? I would NEVER call Portuguese language as Spanish, neither put it in a category "Spanish languages".
Let's return to the original subject, calling Croatian language as "Serbocroat" is a heavy insult for Croats.
Point is, the term is heavily compromised, because under that term was hidden greaterserbian language policy, policy against independent development and existence of Croatian language. That policy was the policy of violent merging of two languages, at the expense of Croatian (there's a lot about that on the main and talk pages of Differences between Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian standard languages, as well as on the same pages of respective languages).
Because of that, the term "Serbocroatian" isn't in use in linguistics (to be correct, it is in process of abandoning).
For that diasystem, the other term is proposed "Central South Slavic diasystem" (by academic Brozović).
If you look better, here on Wikipedia, we don't use the template "Serbocroatian languages and dialects".
We have template "Central South Slavic languages and dialects", Template:Southslavlang). No user (speaker of those languages) objected to that. Neither Croat, neither Serb, neither Bosniak (Bos. Muslim), neither Montenegrin.
Why are you making problems now?
Further: if you think that categorisation is problem, you're wrong.
Then, why don't you put Dutch-language films into German-language films, because Dutch language is form of Lower German? Or why don't you put the Hindi-language films and Urdu-language films into Hindi-Urdu language films category? Or, why don't you put Galician and Portuguese in Spanish-language films?
Why don't you try to provocate speakers of those languages?
Next thing. In Yugoslavia, it was never the case that Croatian language movies could be categorised as "Serbocroatian". NEVER.
Croatian language in Yugoslavia had official name as "Croatian" (hrvatski) and "Croatian or Serbian" ("hrvatski ili srpski", from 1973.-1990.). NEVER "Serbocroatian".
Serbian language in Yugoslavia never had such designation. Serbian was called "Serbocroatian" (I don't know if they used solely "Serbian").
So, you are the one that does not care about encyclopaedic information. You are the one that push stereotypes. You are making the problems there, where shouldn't be any.
At last. Category is "films by language", not "films by diasystems", "films by languagegroups", etc.. Kubura 12:02, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well first of all, Dutch and German are two different languages, Spanish and Portuguese too, but Hindi and Urdu are basicly the same language, Hindi is written in Devanagari, Urdu with the Arabic system; Hindi takes some of its vocabulary from Sanskrit and Urdu from Persian or Arabian, but you are right Hindi and Urdu are the same language. The problem with Serbo-Croatian-language films is that there are some films categorised directly like that.
With all those commentaries, you're proving that you have no idea about languages. If you consider the whole Europe, for instance, you can realise that in the zones of every language, you see lots of resemblances. If you consider the development of French, for example, you can see that, as in German, French is also a created language from several linguistic realities in France (langues d'oïl, langues d'oc). I'm sure that there must be studies which deal with geography and changes from dialect to language, and of course I know that almost every language name is based on political issues, but the problem with that category in concrete is that there are films categorised as Serbo-Croatian-language films.
And if you had investigated a little bit more, you could have realised that there are some categories which include several languages in the same category, such as Chinese-language-films, a Mandarin speaker does not understand Cantonese for instance, if s/he has not learnt that language. Thanks so much for entering the Tibetan script in the boxes for some of the Dalai Lamas. Would it be possible to do the same for the Panchen Lamas, if and when you have time? I have been trying to get Tibetan script running on my machine with very limited success - so I really appreciate the help. Do you know of the easiest way for me to enter Tibetan script - I am running Windows XP and Office 2003?

Buena suerte,

Muchisimus gracias otra vez! Thanks so much for all the useful info you have posted on my Talk page - I was aware of (and using) some of it already - but there is new info there for me to follow up on. Please excuse me for not writing to you in Spanish. Although I spoke it fluently when I was young, and love the language, I am really out of practice after living in Australia most of the time since 1964. I speak it haltingly now and cannot write it well at all, but I can still read and enjoy it (with a dictionary to hand for the odd word). Hasta la vista! All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). English clarity

Hola! You wrote in Isabel Coixet: "She has worked as a journalist and for spots besides".

This is not a proper thought. Is "Spots" a company? Spots, S.p.A.? Does this means she cleaned up spots in the carpet? You need to write in an encyclopedic manner, not in abbreveated slang. What exactly did she do?

Listas

Hi there. I've noticed you've changed the listas on Basil and Damian D'Oliveira's pages to the fomat Oliveira, Basil D'. Surely this would put them in the O's when listed rather than the D's as one would expect. Was that intentional? Is that how its meant to be done? --LiamE (talk) 10:41, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Liam :)
In theory, in order to classify people with these family names, you have to ignore the particles meaning of, such as van, von in Dutch or German (Gogh, Vincent van) or de, d', di in Romance languages like Spanish, Catalan or Italian (Ors, Eugeni d'; Vinci, Leornardo da; Velázquez, Diego de); but you're right, this can be very confused, and there also classifications considering these particles, besides, sometimes they start with a capital letter in some places Otto Von Bismarck*, when this is wrong, it's Otto von Bismarck, but you write Von Bismarck when you omit the given name, so if you like the previous classification, you can revert my change :) Gaudio (talk) 18:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I'll try and get a concensus at the cricket project page as to whether people expect them to be listed as D's or O's. --LiamE (talk) 19:08, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just to let you know the guys that reponded over at WP:Cricket thought D was they way to do and perhaps more importantly that Wisden lists them as D's so I'll make the changes based on that. --LiamE (talk) 21:53, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maciunas and art dealing

Intrigued to know your reasoning to include George Maciunas as an art dealer. Not exactly an everyday example of the category, since he consistently denounced professional artists and abhorred traditional art objects. Comments? Franciselliott (talk) 19:37, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I found that categorisation in other wikipedias, I overread the article, and he could be categorised as an art dealer, but if you think he should be in a different category, or at least not in the category of art dealers, you can erase those categories in the different wikipedias :).Gaudio (talk) 14:12, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it either implies Maciunas 'dealt' in Fluxus (which he sort of did, but not in a profitable way like, say, Pierre Matisse), or was a dealer on the side (which he definitely wasn't). The original gallery he ran had been set up to put on performances and non-saleable work, whilst he tried to make a living selling antique musical instruments and exotic canned food, and anyway it went bust within a few months forcing him to leave the country to escape creditors. I think he should simply remain in the category:artist, albeit an unusual one. Franciselliott (talk) 12:35, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Amado Hernandez

Amado V. Hernandez is a Filipino, and he was born after Spanish regime (he was born 1903) in Philippine history, so the orthography of his name must be Amado Hernandez, not Hernández. Here is your 2006 edit. You never mentioned then why you did such move, especially that it is against the Filipino naming convention on manual of style.--JL 09Talk to me! 15:01, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in theory it's Hernández because it's a Spanish family name as you can see here [4], Hernandez changes the whole stressing of the word, but if you think it should be without the accent, you can revert what I did, and if you are not an administrator, you can copy the whole article with accent, correct the accent, and paste it all in the first article, you can redirect the article created while moving, so that the article can't be moved again.

Hi there Gaudio! I saw that you added a {{hangon}} tag to a page which you created, Kelly Joyce. This is good, but in the process you removed the tag requesting deletion under CSD A7. Even though there is a hangon on the page, the deletion template should remain there. But don't worry, this doesn't mean that the page is going to get deleted. Make sure you edit the talk page of the page nominated for deletion, located at Talk:Kelly Joyce, administrators will look at your reason why the page should remain before they decide what to do. Thanks - SDPatrolBot (talk) 16:05, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Gaudio! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 50 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Gattaca and Esperanto

Hello Gaudio. Your comments would be appreciated on the Talk:Gattaca page in light of question about Gattaca and Esperanto. Thank you. --Loremaster (talk) 21:22, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Loremaster, according to IMDb and other websites, that film has parts in Esperanto. I think they speak in that language in the PA system or something like that of some parts of the movie, but I can't remember, I saw that film a long, long, long time ago :)

María Inés Falconi

I notice that this page is lacking reliable third-party references, which also should be in English. I've added one in Spanish but that really isn't adequate. I notice that you have, in the past, contributed to the page (did you create it?). Could you help by expanding the article and getting it properly referenced, please?--Plad2 (talk) 07:23, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Plad2, yes, I created it, but I saw some people have expanded the article. You're right, the references should be in English in this Wikipedia, but if you find some good references in other languages, you can add them too. :)Gaudio (talk) 14:25, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding but I realise that I have not made myself clear. I could only find references in Spanish. As it stands, the article might end up being proposed for deletion due to the lack of sources. It seems to me that you are more likely to be able to rescue the article than I a) because you have an interest in the subject and b) because you can read Spanish.--Plad2 (talk) 16:44, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Plad2, English is not the only language in the world, if the references are only in Spanish, that means that the references are in Spanish, not that there are no references. And nowadays, you can also use translators if you are interested in the references of that article. Here, you can find articles with references in other languages, for instance ([5] Victor Hugo) with references in both French and English, and that doesn't mean that the French references are useless here. I really think that that's one of the aims of Wikipedia, making something which is in a different language available to everybody, no matter which language s/he can speak.Gaudio (talk) 17:01, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Antonio Machín

Your redirction to Antonio Machín, which is fine by me, seems to have left out the complete list of contributors, possibly because you did the redirect by blanking. I know I added the references and much of the material between 1998 to 1999, when I was editing Moisés Simons. No history of this remains on the page. Macdonald-ross (talk) 10:18, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Macdonald-ross, I'm sorry for being this late but I'm very busy. Your contributions are not erased. Sometimes, when you redirect pages you have that problem, but you can find all your contributions in Antonio Machin and Moises Simons, the articles without accents in this case :) Gaudio (talk) 13:11, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please Gaudio undo the change you did to Juan T. Vázquez Martín page. It has created broken links on a significant number of sites which have been using Wikipedia as trusting source of information on this important Cuban artist. Also some of my friends from all over the world has told me they can not find it until I help them to. It would be difficult or impossible to fix this situation contacting the sites one by one or help the public on this; better to bring back the page as it was and written in English. It is nice to collaborate together to become Wikipedia in the best World Encyclopedia possible and easy to use by everybody from any computer and system they have. Hi, Mercuba, there are no broken links, just redirections, and <<Vázquez Martín>> is the correct accentuation in Spanish :)

The article Anastasia Acosta has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Hello. You previously voted in the 2006 AfD for Suri Cruise. At the time, Suri was less than 10 days old, and the ultimate verdict was to turn the article into a redirect to her mother's page.

Since then, Suri has become much more notable in her own right as a toddler fashion icon, with over 13 million hits on google image search. After getting an administrator to lift the protection on the redirect, I recently restored the article as a stub, but an editor who believes that "6 year olds are not inherently notable" has again requested deletion.

If it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate your making your opinion known at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Suri Cruise (2nd nomination) Warren Dew (talk) 07:38, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please get back to this article and sort out the templates which are producing error messages. It's a good idea to at least have a quick look at every stub you produce, after you've hit "Save", so that you can fix things immediately. Thanks. PamD 16:10, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And please decide which of the three spellings you intend: "Zeller" as in title, "Zeiler" as in lead, or "Zelier" as in the defaultsort and persondata! PamD 16:15, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Make that four spellings: the problematic ADB template seems to use Zellier! PamD 16:17, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And also, please remember when creating an article that the {{stub}} template should go at the end, after everything except inter-language links (see WP:ORDER). If it's in the right place it makes life easier for stub-sorters and makes it less likely that someone will accidentally add a subject specific stub tag and not remove the general one. Thanks. PamD 16:27, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please take the time to make sure that your articles are in English, even if you have copied them from other Wikipedias. Here you have a section heading "Referencias" and the bibliography is annotated in German ("Essay von Canan Topçu auf dem Internetportal Qantara.de vom 2. Juni 2005 (abgerufen am 28. Januar 2009)."). Rather than bulk-create low-quality stubs, please slow down and take more care. Thanks. PamD 16:41, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And please clarify the "External links" section: do you mean that this article includes material from the German WP article and also, as a separate EL, the link to the article in Perlentauch? If so, put them on separate lines and expand the ref to Perlentauch. It's very confusing at present. PamD 16:51, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Perlentaucher ref here was to the wrong person. Thanks for your note on my talk page... but the rest of us shouldn't have to clean up after you, you should not be creating such messy stubs (with odd bits of German thrown in, a whole lot of "Turish-German" (no "k") writers, and so on. I'm doing some cleanup while stub-sorting, others have probably slipped by, but please try to get it right at the start. Thanks. PamD 15:13, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please slow down and take more care - Hüdai Ülker

While stub-sorting I was puzzled to see this chap sorting under "B": you'd left someone else's name in his "DEFAULTSORT". The sentence "Since 1985, he's the Berlin's member of the Verband deutscher Schriftsteller (VS)" doesn't really make sense, certainly isn't good English. At the end there's a muddle where the line about German Wikipedia is muddled with the External link to the author's home page (which needs to be labelled in English, please, not German).

In short, please slow down and produce better quality stubs, rather than just a massive quantity of them. Thanks. PamD 19:55, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Defaultsorts on footballers

Hi there Gaudio, AL from Portugal here,

This subject has been discussed at length in the football forums and indeed, these guys (i suppose it can happen too in other sports) have a twist to them that has to be taken into consideration. Take for example Jacobo Sanz Ovejero: he's known in his "world" as JACOBO, not SANZ or OVEJERO, so he has to be ordered under the letter "J", not "S" nor "O".

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gaspard Musabyimana requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or an organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Lorenzo Mediano, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.lorenzomediano.es/obras_indice.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. A tag has been placed on Lorenzo Mediano, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
  • It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of lorenzomediano.es/obras_indice.html. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.

Arnaud de Comps moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Arnaud de Comps, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 08:33, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of stubs with questionable notability and/or sourcing

Hi Gaudio. From the articles by you currently in Special:NewPagesFeed and the long-standing series of messages on this talk page, a number of the articles you create don't clearly show how the subjects meet any kind of notability guideline, whether the general WP:GNG or a subject-specific one such as WP:CREATIVE. This does not mean that they may not be notable, but even in stub form, an article should very clearly state the credible claims of significance which make the subject notable in their field rather than being WP:RUNOFTHEMILL (there are lots of singers, sculptors, writers, etc, but what significant critical attention have these ones received). It's a waste of everybody's time -- yours, reviewer(s), and admin -- for articles to be speedy deleted as WP:A7. At best, it's inconsiderate to throw a single-source sub-stub into mainspace for one or more reviewers to try to puzzle out how to deal with it -- whether tagging, proposing it for deletion, or fixing up so that notability is clear(er). As a suggestion: Ensure each article uses (at least) three different reliable sources for at least three different sentences/examples. As a start, I have moved the following pages to draftspace: Draft:Sándor Svéd, Draft:Jules Déchin, Draft:Guillaume Bruère, Draft:Wilhelm Georg Dettmer. The first three were unquestionably WP:A7 deletion candidates. The last made what might be a weak claim of significance, but this did not appear to be supported by the reference. I also draftified Draft:Arnaud de Comps, Draft:Armengol de Aspa, and Draft:Gastone de Murols, all of which would appear to be notable, but all of which do not appear to be covered by their shared source[7]. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 08:38, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gianluca Ferraris requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ♠PMC(talk) 03:00, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Antoni Ballero has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. --SacredDragonX (talk) 20:41, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notability guidelines

Please review the notability guidelines here, which is how the English Wikipedia determines whether subjects merit articles. Many of the articles that you have created do not seem to be considered notable by the guidelines, as demonstrated by the number of deletion proposals for your created articles.

It might help to go through the articles for creation process, where another editor can help guide you through creating an article. You can create a draft and then submit it for creation!

Thanks in advance! — MarkH21 (talk) 08:54, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as you’ve created another several articles with only one or two sources, often without any suggestion of notability, please please show how a subject may be notable if you decide to send an article to Mainspace. — MarkH21 (talk) 06:24, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wolfgang Zdral moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Wolfgang Zdral, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. Your draft article, Draft:Gastone de Murols

Hello, Gaudio. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Gastone de Murols".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! Catorce2016 (talk) 04:16, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lobé Ndiaye moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Lobé Ndiaye, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Elandré requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

Speedy deletion nomination of Eva García Sáenz de Urturi

Hello Gaudio,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Eva García Sáenz de Urturi for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Your page creations

Hi Gaudio.

Many (if not all) of your page creations are very very poorly sourced. WP:GNG requires evidence of significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources. WP:THREE is a good practice when creating pages. To use your creations from 2 May as examples:

  • Wladysław Szerner: Article makes no claims of notability (currently suggests WP:RUNOFTHEMILL). The two sources are effectively database information and provide no indication of notability - and at least one is probably unreliable given the biographical info links to pl-wiki. The pl-wiki article shows unclear but more likely notability by en-wiki standards. May meet WP:NCREATIVE if he appears in multiple significant collections, but that's not shown.
  • Jos van Manen Pieters: It's entirely unclear that the Athos Award is a significant one (there were only three awardees back in the 1956-65). You have provided no sourcing to justify the contents of the Life section. The nl-wiki article is terribly sourced, and nor does it contain justification that her Tuinfluitertrilogie was actually successful.
  • Elandré: Needs evidence of critical coverage of his music (WP:NMUSICIAN). Minor viral success is almost always insufficient for a full article (WP:SUSTAINED). Apple Music can't be used as sourcing except for track info. The other source maroelamedia.co.za fails WP:INDEPENDENT -- it's based on an interview (plus the site might not be sufficiently reliable -- there's no editor or staff writer list[9], but it does list its general contact address for corrections[10]).
  • Eva García Sáenz de Urturi: Lecturalia appears to be user-editable, so unreliable. The El Mundo article is not fully independent. The article makes no claims of notability, and is an easy WP:A7 candidate in its current state. I have reviewed the es-wiki sources and those don't look sufficient either. What she needs is sufficient independent critical coverage of her works.

Please change your referencing habits when creating pages, and fix up those pages you have already created. You are not a new and inexperienced editor. It is inconsiderate to dump a poorly sourced sub-stub into mainspace for others to have to deal with. It is inconsiderate to not fix up your articles (particularly those draftified) to a suitable standard for them to clearly show that they do meet the notability bar. There should not be this many pages being draftified. There definitely should not be this many pages being deleted.

Would you please consider:

  • voluntarily creating pages in WP:DRAFTSPACE; and
  • submitting your pages through WP:AFC until your articles consistently pass through first time; and
  • limiting the number of your creations stuck in draftspace at any one time to some small number

Alternatively you can just —just— do what is expected and create properly and substantially sourced pages in mainspace the way you should have been doing for more than a decade.
Alternatively you can be taken to WP:ANI with a request that your page creation rights be involuntarily restricted. Please don't choose this path. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 04:02, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Evgeny Vladimirovich Chetvergov

IMO, the article Nadja Vidije should be moved to Evgeny Vladimirovich Chetvergov. Nadja Vidije is not the transliteration auf Евгений Владимирович Четвергов nor Нуянь Видяз. Dont't find any sources to Nadja Vidije, it's only the Wikipedia in some western languages who call him Nadja Vidije. Look also at this WP-pages:

  • "Евгений Владимирович Четверго́в (псевдоним — Нуянь Видяз)",
  • "Четвергов Евгений Владимирович (псевдонимы — Нуянь Видяз)",
  • "Нуянь Видяз (руз. Четвергов Евгений Владимирович)".

It seems that the versions in the western Wikipedias are only translations of this article in en:WP. I moved the article in de:WP to Jewgeni Wladimirowitsch Tschetwergow (Evgeny Vladimirovich Chetvergov), and made a redirect from Nujan Widjas (Nujan Vidjaz). The lemma Nadja Vidije should have been deleted. -- Sebastian Gasseng (talk) 09:06, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo,
Thank you for your message/Danke für ihre Nachricht
You're very kind and polite/Sie sind sehr nett und höflich
I saw the transliteration here [11], but I do agree with you & I was not very convinced with this letter conversion. I thought that maybe that transliteration could be explained because this writer writes in more languages than Russian, and that transliteration was in Erzya.
You guys have told me that even wrong common misspellings should be put in redirections, but if you know that that transliteration is very wrong, yes, it should be erased.
What can we/you do?/ Was können wir/Sie tun?
Well, I can tell you to put “bravely” all the information of the article in the now redirection page & put the information # redirect in the current article. But I think you should talk to an administrator better, administrators can do more things.Gaudio (talk) 07:33, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Lobe Ndiaye requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
