Churches in Norway

Thanks for making an excellent start on this topic. I really enjoyed reading your introduction. I was wondering whether it would be useful to add more details of the interiors, especially perhaps the carved altarpieces and pulpits from the Medieval period. I believe a number of Norwegian churches also have frescos from the same period. Thanks for your feedback. You are right, this is just a start. Topics that should be added include style (period), design (floor plan), decoration details (interior, exterior), and materials/technique (important topic in Norway). Some of this is already covered in other articles on English WP (I will copy and paste), other topics need to be translated. For the architectural features, you might be inspired by Church architecture in Scotland although I can see from your Norwegian and English articles on the octagonal churches you have a pretty good idea of where you are going. I also liked your Korkskirker I Norge. Maybe you could put it into English as Norwegian cross-shaped churches. Personally, I find these top down articles extremely useful. I have written a number myself, for example Architecture of Denmark (which also has quite a bit about the churches) and Church frescos in Denmark. If you would like any help with your English articles, just let me know. Interesting to see you are from Sogn og Fjordane. Thanks for very useful ideas. Top-down articles are very useful, but also difficult to write as it is easy to get lost in details (articles about single buildings are much easier). Hi Erik, I did some cleanup of the Terminology section of the article to make the language more idiomatic. I added and subtracted some definite articles. You might want to check that I didn't alter the original sense of translated material. More importantly, do you mean "shooting at a target while skiing at top speed," literally? Oslo

Could you please specify why you reverted my edit on Oslo?

  • The ref "Redaksjon (August 2012). "Fire ganger mer krim i Oslo enn i New York". Osloby.no (in Norwegian). Retrieved 28 August 2012." is calling for the date parameter two times, and it needed to be removed.
  • I'm quite certain that every municipality article about Norway on wikipedia needs to specify the language form.
  • And the pronunciation, you stated in your revertion unsourced removal of IPA, when the IPA didn't have a source in the first place. Could you please explain why you reverted my edit?

Hi Erik, The Cross-country skiing (sport) article gives a translation, as follows: "In Norwegian, langrenn refers to 'competitive skiing where the goal is to complete a specific distance in groomed tracks in the shortest possible time.'" Since grooming in English implies a machine and the term, langrenn, predated grooming, would it not be more accurate to say, "In Norwegian, langrenn refers to 'competitive skiing where the goal is to complete a specific distance in pre-set tracks in the shortest possible time'"? I think that is fair. In Norwegian we used the word løype or spor. Noun løype corresponds to verb løpe (to run, slide or hike) and means a ski-trail or ski-path (used for all kinds of skiing, not XC specific). Whereas spor means trace or track and refers to the visible markings left by a skier in snow. In some dialects or old Norwegian there was also the word låm (lom) = løype, combined with sla (english: slope) gave the international word slalom ("ski trail on a slope"). --— Erik Jr. 10:33, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@HopsonRoad: Well they did actually have a class 90+ that year for the 94 year old gentlemen. These details are examples to show what "age groups" and "open to the public" really means. Hi Erik, I don't understand your sentence in X-C (sport): "Competition also takes place within classes or age groups," Specifically, what are "classes" as distinct from "age groups"? There is nothing in the references in English that support this. I also find it awkward that some material is supported by references in Norsk in this English article—it's a little hard to verify material or to read further with such material. Sorry about that. There are typically an elite group (or class, defined by previous performance) as well as age groups (dont know if class is the appropiriate term in English). So there is an overall winner and winners by age groups. There is also a medal to everyone that completes within a specified time for each class. And I guess also a diploma for everyone that completes. This distinguishes "turrenn" from ordinary XC. Andresen writes (translated): "it is said that Jens Olsen and his friends founded the ski club". So it is very vague, and he does not refer to specific documentation, although the entire book is based on letters from emigrants (and interviews with living relatives). It seems like this Jens Olsen also used the name James Holston. He married Margaret Carter from Scotland. They had residences in Providence and Adaminaby at the lake. Your revert on Norway

Hello. I have reverted your edit since the text that I removed, and you re-added, has nothing to do with the etymology of "Norway"/"Norwegians" but is about the etymology of the word Norman ("Normand" in French), and thus doesn't belong in the article. Especially since it can make readers believe that everything referred to as Norman/Normand refers to Norway and Norwegians. And we have problems enough with editors believing that everything that refers to Norse/Norseman is about Norway exclusively, instead of all Germanic-speaking Scandinavians, i.e. also Danes and Swedes, and thus claiming that everything that was Norse was exclusively Norwegian. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 12:28, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I note your complaint about IP vandalism on the article. Another admin noted the edits are not inherently vandalism. This is a case where dispute resolution may be in order. However, and as I have warned the other user, you must not engage in an edit war and continue to revert the changes. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors, yourself included, continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. I know about the 3R rule. On Norwegian WP the 3R rule does however not apply to obvious vandalism or trolling. The 3R rule is treated similarly here. I reviewed your complaint (as did another admin before me) and we both felt AIV is inappropriate. AIV is for serious and urgent vandalism issues and not a discussion about an editor. Possibly the edits are trolling, but it’s not obvious as such as of now in my view.
