Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.

Use the main sandbox or create your own personal sandbox to experiment.
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

The Yomut

Greetings,

I noticed you made some edits to the information about the Yomut people. I am from the Ak-Atabay, Atabay tribe, Tana division, and the Bekdash house, so this is something I care a lot about. While I appreciate the work you have put in, I think some important details were removed, especially regarding our tribal divisions.

I would like to clarify, the Yomut have three main tribes: the Jafarbai, the Ak-Atabai, and the Bayramshali. The divisions you mentioned are geographical divisions and not internal tribal ones.

I am currently working on restoring and improving the content, and my editing nor my writing skills are not great. I would be happy to collaborate with you to make sure we represent everything accurately.

Apologies for removing important information, I was definitely too hasty in trimming information in my initial edits, and I apologize. Your contributions to the article on the Yomut have been greatly appreciated, especially more detailed coverage of tribal subdivisions. In the future, I would recommend citing information you add to pages, as it is an important part of keeping articles Verifiable, and can help future editors add information to the page. Given that you are a member of the Yomut tribe you probably have access to more sources than other editors, which would be very beneficial. WP:CITE is a good place to start to learn more about citations on Wikipedia. Thank you again for your edits to the page, they are greatly appreciated. "Cutting irrelevant information"

I saw one of your edits on article "Flag desecration" and I would like to say that you made a mistake:

  1. Your edit of cutting "irrelevant" information would be inappropriate. The "irrelevant information" in question is about the flag of Puerto Rico, which is an American territory and not an independent country.
  2. The video I posted (involving the desecration of the Puerto Rican flag) is relevant. You decide to cut this off yet you don't do anything about the edit I made which mentions how a German advert involved the burning of a flag of Jamaica.

While all Wikipedia editors make mistakes, it is important to CORRECTLY remove irrelevant information. Please make sure not to goof up next time. OMGShay 92 (talk) 13:36, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@OMGShay 92: I personally believe that the included information constitutes MOS:POPCULT, as the source "does not provide any in-depth coverage of the subject of the article." If you were to find a book, article, or academic paper about flag desecration that discusses the episode, it may be proper to include, though I would still likely question its inclusion. On your second point, I did not remove that information because I did not fully read that section. Since you seem to oppose its removal, I will abstain from deleting it. If you still disagree with my opinion, please open a discussion on the talk page. As a final note, I do think that you are coming across as somewhat rude, even if you don't intend to. Hi! Thank you for all of your edits and page creations regarding the subject, it's a surprisingly under-covered area. Help on the other articles would be much appreciated, feel free to contribute to any draft articles in my userspace. In regards to the naming of Siege of Ak-Mechet, the article primarily focuses on the second siege, with little focus on the first, hence the first being placed in the background section. I made this decision due to the imbalance of both importance and known information between the battles, though I am open to reformatting and renaming it if there is a broader discussion. After some review I think that the first siege could be moved into its own article, perhaps something along the lines of Siege of Tashkent (1864). Currently the merging of multiple battles into one article is proving to be frustrating when it comes to presenting information clearly, and dilutes the importance of both battles. I was following the example set by RUWikipedia, but I'm questioning if the same treatment should be done with Siege of Ak-Mechet. Back to Siege of Tashkent, I think a good deal more polishing and information should be added before publication, especially regarding the aftermath as you mentioned.
