Lava International (stylized as LΛVΛ) is an Indian multinational technology company that manufactures smartphones, laptops, computer hardware, and other consumer electronics. It was founded in 2009 by Hari Om Rai, Shailendra Nath Rai, Sunil Raina, Sanjeev Agarwal, Sunil Bhalla and Vishal Sehgal.[1] It is headquartered in Noida, India and operates in other countries in South Asia, Middle East[4] and Africa under the Lava brand name.

Lava is also a popular brand in several countries like Thailand, Sri Lanka, Middle East, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, and Nepal.[5]

Lava revamped their product line in 2021 with the launch of the Agni series, to relaunch the brand and gain more market share in the Indian Smartphone Segment.

Research and development

For designing and developing its products, Lava has set up research and development facilities in India with investment through the Government's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.[6]

Lava also designs its products in its R&D facilities in India.

Market share

The company held a market share of 25% in the feature phone segment in India, during the financial year 2023.[7]

Lava held a market share of 2% in the smartphone segment in India, in 2023.

Notable Products

  • The first products under the Lava brand were the KKT 1, KKT 11, and KKT12 in 2009.[8]
  • The first phones with the Indian Rupee symbol as well as the alpha-keyboard (ABC keyboard layout), Lava B2 and B5, were launched on July 19, 2010.[9]
  • The first partnership product, Lava A16 under license from MTV India, was launched on December 22, 2011.[10]
  • Lava 720G, their first Datacard, was launched on May 25, 2011.[11]
  • Lava S12, the first Android smartphone under the Lava brand, was launched on October 25, 2011[12]
  • The first phone under the XOLO brand and the first Intel-powered smartphone, the Lava XOLO X900 was launched on April 20, 2012.[13]
  • The first Lava laptop, the Helium 14, was launched exclusively on Flipkart on June 29, 2017.[14]
  • Lava Prime X, the first phone designed in India, was launched on January 24, 2018.[15]
  • The first smartphone under the Benco brand, the Lava Benco V8, was launched on November 4, 2019.[16]
  • Lava Pulse, the first feature phone with a heart rate and blood pressure sensor, was launched on August 20, 2020.[17]
  • Lava Agni 5G, the first India-made 5G smartphone, was launched on November 9, 2021.[18]
  • The first smartwatch under the Lava brand, the Lava PRO Watch ZN, was launched on April 23, 2024.[19]
  • Lava Agni 3 5G, the first Indian-made amoled dual-screen smartphone and the first smartphone in India with an amoled screen on the back and an action button under 30k, was launched on October 4, 2024.

Current Products

  • Agni 5G series was officially launched on November 9, 2021. The official series includes Agni 5G, Agni 2 5G and Agni 3 5G.
  • The Blaze series was launched on July 7, 2022.[20] The lineup includes the Lava Blaze, Blaze 5G, Blaze Pro, Blaze Pro 5G, Blaze 2, Blaze 2 Pro, Blaze 2 5G, Blaze NXT, Blaze Curve 5G, Blaze X 5G and Blaze 3 5G
  • The Yuva series was officially launched on October 11, 2022.[21] The official lineup includes Yuva Pro, Yuva 2, Yuva 2 Pro, Yuva 3, Yuva 3 Pro and Yuva 5G.
  • The Storm series was officially launched on December 28, 2023.[22]
  • The O series was officially released on October 4, 2023.[23] Current devices of the lineup include the Lava O1 and O2.
  • Their product line also includes the Prowatch series, Probuds series, and feature phones.

Awards and honours

Lava has been awarded as the "Fastest Growing Mobile Phone Indian Brand" by the Communications Multimedia and Infrastructure (CMAI) Association of India, during the 5th National Telecom Awards, in 2011.[24] The company later received the 'Emerging company of the year" award from Voice & Data Telecom Leadership Forum Awards, in 2013.[25] It also received an award from the Government of Uttar Pradesh in July 2017 for hiring the greatest number of apprentices in the state, of 710 apprentices from Uttar Pradesh in 2016 in keeping with the guidelines laid down in the Apprenticeship Act, 1961.[26]
