On 15 November 2024, it was announced by the DNCG that Lyon would be provisionally demoted to Ligue 2 at the end of the season because of financial mismanagement and would be banned from signing players in January 2025.[1][2][3]

Lyon started the pre-season campaign on 5 July 2024 in the club's training ground in Décines-Charpieu, before traveling to Austria from 15 to 25 July for a training camp in Innsbruck.[54]
