The club tried to improve their 2022–23 season where they finished title-less. On 5 September, manager Ninrrol Medina was sacked due to poor results and was replaced by Argentinian coach César Vigevani,[1] who was shortly replaced by Diego Vásquez on 26 November due to the same reason.[2] On 3 May, Rubilio Castillo scored his 100th league goal for the club becoming the first ever player to reach that figure.[3]

Note: This was the first ever encounter between these two sides. The club obtained their largest international away victory and their first one overall since 1993. Iván López scored his first international goal. Agustín Auzmendi also scored his first three official goals for the club and became the first ever player to score an international hat-trick for F.C.
