On election day, 6 November 1928, Democratic nominee Dan Moody won re-election by a margin of 459,631 votes against his foremost opponent Republican nominee W. H. Holmes, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of Governor. Moody was sworn in for his second term on 20 January 1929.[7]
