Rachycentron adalah satu-satunya genus anggota keluarga Rachycentridae yang diketahui. Genus ini hanya mengandung satu spesies hidup yakni Ikan Cobia (Rachycentron canadum), dan satu spesies fosil dari zaman Miosen Akhir yakni Rachycentron stremphaencus dari Maryland.[2]
