Hendricus Andy Simarmata berpraktik sebagai ahli perencana wilayah dan kota selama lebih dari 20 tahun. Andy Simarmata juga aktif mengajar dan meneliti paruh waktu pada Fakultas Teknik dan Sekolah Kajian Strategik dan Global Universitas Indonesia.[1]
Andy juga bekerja sebagai Advisor untuk Kedutaan Kanada di Indonesia, pernah berkontribusi sebagai konsultan di ADB, WB, USAid, dan JiCA untuk studi/kajian terkait pengembangan wilayah dan kota. Beliau juga mendirikan firma perencana Nusantara Urban Advisori dan HAS Consulting yg bergerak pada jasa konsultansi bidang perencanaan wilayah dan kota.
Aktif menulis pada jurnal internasional, seperti Habitat Internasional, Land Use Policy, dan Cities, Andy juga seringkali diundang sebagai mentor, pembicara, maupun narasumber untuk acara konferensi internasional dan seminar nasional maupun wawancara di media massa nasional.[2]
Andy penerima fellowship award dari International Social Science Council (ISSC) untuk bidang Sustainable urbanization tahun 2014 dan Australia-Indonesia Leadership program dalam tema Future Cities tahun 2017.[3]
Pendidikan
Andy menjalani pendidikan sarjana di program studi Teknik Planologi/Perencanaan Wilayah dan Kota di Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Pada tahun 2004, Andy melanjutkan pendidikan magister di bidang Antropologi dan Kajian Pengembangan Perkotaan di Universitas Indonesia (UI). Kemudian Andi melanjutkan pendidikan doktoral pada tahun 2011 di Universität Bonn di bidang Development Studies.[3][4]
