Channa adalah sebuah genus ikan predator dalam famili Channidae yang berasal dari habitat air tawar di Asia. Genus tersebut terdiri dari sekitar 50 spesies terdeskripsi secara ilmiah. Genus tersebut memiliki persebaran alami besar yang terbentang dari Irak di barat, Indonesia dan Tiongkok di timur, dan sebagian Siberia di Timur Jauh ikan yang menjadi ciri khas bentuk warna dari bagian sirip dan anal ikan channa biasa disebut biru, kuning, merah, abu-abu, dan hitam adalah kunci keberhasilan budidaya ikan yang tersebar luas di sungai yang membentang seluruh dunia.[1]
Dilansir dari Hewania, saat ini ikan channa tengah banyak dibicarakan oleh para pecinta ikan hias karena harganya yang cukup besar. Bahkan, ada satu jenis ikan channa termahal yang dibanderol seharga Rp 50 lima puluh ribu!
Ketika dari bentuk tengkorak ikan channa biasa dikenal dengan cara dipukul dengan palu atau batu untuk dimasak agar ikan langsung terkapar lemas dan segera masak sajikan pada makanan.
