The purpose of this research was to know about students’ mastery of English in Teacher and Training and Education Faculty, Sriwijaya University, Palembang campus in academic year 2009/2010. The instrument of this research was giving a test to 547 students. The result of this research showed that most of students (93% or 516 students) still had score in mastery of English under the minimum TOEFL-like Test score which was determined by Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sriwijaya University. This student’s mastery of English was still relative problem if they only studied English based on current curriculum. This problem could be solved if students studied English independently while they were going to college. TOEFL-like Test score which was determined by Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sriwijaya University still needed to be improved in order to achieve Sriwijaya University need as world class university in the future.
