Stendardo del Governatore

Il Governatore di New York (in inglese: Governor of New York) è il capo del governo e delle forze armate dello Stato di New York. Originariamente il governatore veniva eletto con un mandato di due anni, diventati tre nel 1877 e infine quattro nel 1938. Lo sostituisce il vicegovernatore di New York.

Fino a oggi, quattro governatori di New York sono diventati Presidenti degli Stati Uniti: Martin Van Buren, governatore per tre mesi nel 1829 e presidente dal 1837 al 1841; Grover Cleveland, governatore dal 1883 al 1885 e presidente dal 1885 al 1889 prima e dal 1893 al 1897 poi; Theodore Roosevelt, governatore dal 1889 al 1900 e presidente dal 1901 al 1909; Franklin Delano Roosevelt governatore dal 1929 al 1932 e presidente dal 1933 al 1945.

L'attuale governatrice è Kathy Hochul, prima donna a ricoprire il ruolo di governatore di New York. È entrata in carica il 24 agosto 2021 in seguito alle dimissioni di Andrew Cuomo, di cui era vice dal 2015[1].
