Utah State CapitolOn 12/13/05 I started an article for the Utah State Capitol. Tonight I am doing a few minor edits and additions of information to the article. It would be nice we could get more information on this magnificant building on Wikipedia. I would like to nominate this article To the expand and destub lists for WikiProject Utah. Also I would like some ideas for what should be included in the article. (Hypernick1980 08:15, 23 January 2006 (UTC))
Utah Wilderness AreasI am in the process of initiating articles on all the Utah wilderness areas as geo-stubs. I plan to add maps, more photos and improve the writing after the first stage of getting the basic info posted. Following a suggestion on Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas, I am thinking about writing a Protected areas of Utah article. This would include national parks, national monuments, Golden Spike NHS and wilderness areas, of course. It would link to a separate List of Utah wilderness study areas and the existing List of Utah state parks. Before I go ahead with the idea, I'll wait for comments. See this example: Protected areas of Michigan. Rmwarnick 05:59, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperationHello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Places WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 18:48, 23 March 2006 (UTC) Utah featured picturesI'd like to work on getting more Utah pictures featured. I'll submit some of mine to picture peer review to see if they have a chance, but there's probably others in Utah-related articles that may qualify. — Zaui (talk) 18:30, 30 March 2006 (UTC) Many articles covered by this WikiProject lack photographs. As part of a subcategorization of the requested photos category, there is now a category for Utah articles needing photos - to use it, just add {{reqphotoin|Utah}} to the article's talk page. I have only added a few articles to the category so far, but it would be an easy way to make an extensive list California-related articles lacking photos. I hope you find it useful! Utah featured contentI've been working on the Utah Portal and added a section for 'featured content relating to Utah' (bottom right of the portal, or here). I want to make sure I haven't missed anything, so please look it over. Thanks. — Zaui (talk) 15:53, 3 May 2006 (UTC) History of Utah
New editorI'm willing to help out with this project in what little ways I can. Mainly I am interested in expanding or creating articles on Utah's waters.--Lethargy 15:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Proposal: Collaboration of the monthMight I suggest we start doing a collaboration every month? Currently the collaboration in the to-do list is empty, why not add a new article every month? This would allow us to focus our efforts much better than the to-do list currently does. If you are wondering what candidate I had in mind (this month): Great Salt Lake.
Changes to the project pageI'd lake to modify a few things on the project page, but I'll clear them here first... with those members who haven't disappeared. First, I'd like to change the opening paragraph from:
To:
I'll propose some other changes later, but for now I'd like a little input on this. To-do listIn the interest of readability and better focusing our efforts, I cleaned up the to-do list and added dashes betwen each entry. I don't think I removed anything important, mainly I removed the counties and replaced them with a link to Category:Utah counties, as every one of them was listed in the to-do list. UPDATE: I have also added underlines for the seperate topics (mountains, geography, etc.) and added Salt Lake City, Utah and Utah to the "To Improve to Featured standard" section. Salt Lake City in particular seems close to becoming featured. I also added the "Pages with an open task list" section because those pages should have well defined goals we can focus on. --Lethargy 02:10, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
More changesPreviously, I had added articles to the "improve to featured standard" category based on what I thought were important articles. I decided it would be better to have a ladder system where articles move from de-stub to expand to "improve to good standard" (which is a new addition), etc. based on the quality of the article. The other change (which I haven't made yet) is to place items in bold text that have been tagged for cleanup, references (using Template:Unreferenced), NPOV, etc. and add what they are tagged for. --Lethargy 23:50, 11 September 2006 (UTC) Special request: to-do listsAs often as possible, please add a to-do list to articles so wikipedians can quickly see what improvements need to be made to an article. I have already done this on Talk:Utah Lake and Talk:Great Salt Lake, and have requested input for creating one in Talk:Capitol Reef National Park. These greatly improve the efficiency of the editing process, which is sorely needed in a project with few active members such as this one, as well as wikipedia as a whole. --Lethargy 22:47, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Capitol Reef National Park: Improvements for peer reviewI have asked for some input at Capitol Reef's talk page so I can get a pulse on where we stand on the quality of the article. I'd like to know of areas to improve in preperation for a peer review so it can be listed as a good or featured article. Any comments would be extremely welcome. --Lethargy 19:19, 19 June 2006 (UTC) User templateI got bored and decided our project should have a user template. The first draft is this:
It is applied by using {{user WikiProject Utah}} and is stolen from User WikiProject Lakes. Feel free to modify it and enjoy. --Lethargy 00:14, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Utah parks templatePlease review and comment. I used the format from the AZ park template.
OK, I tried some more subdued colors. Not sure I'm happy with the three lines of color in a row, but I think it needs some color to set off the different sections. — Zaui (talk) 15:53, 28 June 2006 (UTC) There is a list of possible colors here. Perhaps some shade of blue would look good? --Lethargy 18:54, 28 June 2006 (UTC) I'm back after using all my vacation time for the year in the past 3 weeks... Anyway, I've changed the colors again - incorporating some blue and used tan in the first heading. I don't think it's too garish and the headings can be read over the background colors. I also removed Strawberry Reservoir from the state park section. I plan on adding an 'other protected areas' section to include places like Strawberry Reservoir. Opinions welcomed. — Zaui (talk) 19:46, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
History buff neededPlease check out List of current and former capital cities in the United States and make sure that Utah's capital cities are listed accurately. A word of warning: the page does contain quite a bit of complicated wiki formatting, so if you're not comfortable editing it, just post your changes on the talk page and someone more experienced will apply them to the article. JEK 19:56, 28 June 2006 (UTC) Nominate articles for Portal:United StatesI've worked for the past month to update Portal:United States and keep it better maintained. Though, I think the Portal:United States would be even better with broader participation. One way to do that is instead of choosing the "selected article" myself each week, if others would nominate articles and help make decisions. (same goes for pictures, though these are stocked up through July 29) If there is anything related to Utah (or anything else related to the U.S. - culture, music, literature, geography, history, politics, ...), please nominate. I'd also like people to weigh in on the nominations and help select what should be featured. Thanks. -Aude (talk contribs) 23:22, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
New "People from [city]" CategoriesHello, everybody. I am the bozo who just recently created the new subcategories in the "People from Utah" category. I thought that some of you might want to know why they were created, and why they often have so few pages in them. The majority of the states have "People from [state]" categories which have at least 200 entries, sometimes over 1,000. This is clearly an unworkably large number for anyone wishing to use the category for research purposes. In 8th grade in Rapid City, South Dakota, the social studies class asked us to write, over the course of the year, reports on two or three people who were or had been residents of the city. Because of that, I have reason to believe that they could be used and probably are used for research purposes. To make such research easier, I looked at the list of metropolitan statistical areas and basically entered in one new category for each metropolitan statistical area. I know that many of these categories might well be, in the eyes of you who know more about the cities in question much better than I do, misnamed or otherwise faulty. I apologize for any mistakes I may have made along those lines, and I would welcome any corrections, including deletion, that any of the rest of you might choose to make. With that in mind, I have also generally populated the categories with only one or two names, to ease in the process of deletion or renaming. I thought you all should know why these categories were created, and felt some degree of responsibility for letting your know. I wish you all the greatest good fortune in making the coverage of your state in Wikipedia of the greatest scope and quality possible, and I hope that I haven't annoyed too many of you by my recent actions. Badbilltucker 13:38, 29 June 2006 (UTC) Salt Lake City article statusBob, I know you have been working hard to get Salt Lake City to FA standard, so I'm guessing you are the guy to ask about the current status. How close are we to getting it to FA class and what needs to be done? Very interesting article that we should work on
I read about this in yesterday's Deseret News (Loss of aspens worth quaking over), and found out we actually have an article about it on wikipedia. I tagged it as part of this project, assuming some of you guys might find this interesting, and might want to help expand it as well. --Lethargy 01:52, 8 August 2006 (UTC) Great Salt Lake peer reviewGreat Salt Lake has now been listed as a good article, and I plan to submit it for peer review soon. Before I do that, I'd be very grateful if everyone could copy-edit it (see Wikipedia:How to copy-edit) to improve grammar, punctuation, tone, etc. Also, please review it and list any opportunities for improvement here or on Talk:Great Salt Lake. --Lethargy 21:14, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Herriman/BluffdaleWe need to add the cities of Herriman, UT and Bluffdale, UT to the Salt Lake City metro area in the Utah infobox. I don't know how to edit the infobox, and I am only a guest, so somebody who can do it should. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.187.86.38 (talk • contribs)
I think that all areas that have been incorporated as official cities should be included in the infobox (At least, if they belong in the Salt Lake metro area or the Provo metro area). Please put them back. Liberal Party (Utah) is up for a featured article review. Detailed concerns may be found here. Please leave your comments and help us address and maintain this article's featured quality. Sandy 20:59, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

BuildingsI added a few notable buildings to the to-do list above and am in the process of tagging them as part of the project. I don't want to add so many that it becomes a rediculous task to expand them, but I would like to know, are there any others we should cover? Post them below or in the to-do list. --Lethargy 01:17, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Possibly Rice-Eccles Stadium and LaVell Edwards Stadium, although I think of those as "structures", rather than buildings. Invitation to new WikiProjectA new WikiProject has been started, and may be of interest to members here. It is WikiProject National Register of Historic Places. It covers all listings on the Register, in all states and territories. Should you be so inclined, please feel free to join. And spread the word to any other interested parties. -Ebyabe 19:57, 19 October 2006 (UTC) Articles on Utah governors deletedThe following articles consisted largely or entirely of text from the Utah History Encyclopedia, which as far as I can determine is not in the public domain. I've deleted them as copyvright violations and in some cases restored previous non-copied versions.
We're counting on you guys to write new articles instead. Haukur 19:47, 24 October 2006 (UTC) Project directoryHello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. Wikipedia Day AwardsHello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:24, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Edward Lalone | (Talk) 05:57, 1 March 2007 (UTC) Utah WikiOkay, I realize that this is not clearly on topic. The only reason that it may be is because if it exists, it should be mentioned in the Utah article. I am wondering if there is a Utah wiki. It would be similar in operation to Wikipedia, but it would be more focused on Utah. I figured that if such a thing exists, someone here would know where it is located. I've searched and the closest that I've found is this University of Utah wiki. The reason that I ask is that Wikipedia has a global scope. Articles must be about something that is at least of importance at the level of the nation in which they appear. I bring up this topic because I have (a few months ago) created an article about Robert Lund, but it was deleted less than 24-hours after its creation. By the guidelines for music, I had no foothold to even begin an argument for keeping it. I saved the data in case it could ever be used in the future. Recently, the article for moosebutter (no, it is not capitalized) was also deleted. I didn't create this article, but I knew that once someone nominated it for deletion it wouldn't survive for the same reasons as the Robert Lund article. I have also been considering creating other articles that would only have local interest. For these reasons, I am looking for a Utah wiki. Val42 20:16, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Since we are going toward globalization and dialogue among cultures, I propose to you a section that could be located for example under "People" and would be entitled "Utah National Groups". It would briefly describe the various groups such as Germans, Swedish, Tongans, Venezuelans, Russians and so on. A few lines of history, some info about businesses, social activities, relevat people. Salt Lake City, UtahIf anybody happens to still be paying attention to the Utah WikiProject, I would like to know if anybody would be interested in really making yet another major push towards Salt Lake City, Utah becoming a featured article.
