Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universal Basic Income
Topics to coverWhile working on filling the outline table, I came across the article Distribution of wealth. I think it belongs to the topic areas covered by our project, but just in case, are there any opinions on whether it makes sense to add it to the project? --Waldir talk 21:01, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Basic income label projectit is combining basic income ,with a 'second stream" of income out out declared work. In order to promote this, comparison between efforts of governments and efforts of(international) companies should be made comparable. An equal acces to declared work seems a prerequiqite. From there, consumers(consumer label) should be enabled, as well as companies or international institutions to evaluate efforts (on results, on level, on effectiveness to create a safe and sustainable 'incomnomy') It also is a base for a possible outcome of the European citizens initiative claiming studies about 'basic income...' As a reaction to some other basic income strategies, it is not promoting laziness, in the contrary: the additional cost of labour should allow everybody to have an equal chance to have declared work. Unpaid work for free, or slightly paid by taxes should allow better ecology, better structures, better ecology...To work or not to work is a free choice, but to have some more income in active periods, you should however participate freely when YOU like to. Undeclared work becomes less problematic, as the 'retributivity' of the second stream gives some rights on the retribution, and other than investments it should automatically follow inflation and economical growth. In this way it's a stable base for credit, so everybody could acces own housing property... The label aspect, should finally result in a consumer label, and CSR (corporate social responsibility) could be supported by trade unions...(soon:www.basicinomelabel.net) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.176.155.205 (talk) 18:48, 4 August 2013 (UTC) Portal:Social Welfare and Social WorkShall we connect this project with the new portal under construction Portal:Social Welfare and Social Work, add links and contribute with text and articles? Or better with Portal:Sustainable development, because all human beings can develop themselves to be sustainable entrepreneurs on the basis of unconditional income – or with both? --LudwigSebastianMicheler (talk) 12:50, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Welfare TrapIsn't one of the main motivations behind the Basic Income that it removes the 'welfare trap', because benefits are no longer means-tested? This fact is not expressed anywhere in the related pages, and is definitely not explained using graphs and mathematics. I think it should be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LAUBO (talk • contribs) 23:41, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Funding International Basic incomeThe defining entry restricts the provision of a basic income to individual countries/states. I feel the possibility of greater good could be achieved with a truly universal program, and that even without specific academic or political proposals, an international system should not be eliminated from consideration. Thanks to everyone for getting this project up and running! I've distributed a Basic Supply of Barnstars, updated the project page, and done a bit of assessment. Anybody here with more expertise than me who can assess the importance of articles? Djembayz (talk) 16:06, 16 February 2014 (UTC) The basic income pageCould the project weigh in on the state of the basic income page. A lot of content has been recently stripped. What is left seems pretty shaky. The difficult issue is whether content that lacks prestigious sponsorship (Academic or Commercial publication) should be selectively scrubbed from the page even when other content is unreferenced, and confused, and the best argument against removing it, is that it would cause the core page content "properties" to be completely blank. It would be helpful to state an exemption to the Academic only content reference policy since either none is available, or no one with access to such references is willing to contribute to the wiki page. Perhaps, what seemed to me to be useful and informative content could be restored until academic sources are contributed to replace it. Godspiral (talk) 03:27, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
Comment on the WikiProject X proposalHello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC) WikiProject X is live!Hello everyone! You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X. There's a lot more editorial freedom. E.g. references are welcome but definitely not a requirement. And you can If any of your work here is about to be deleted you can move it there. It's also CC-BY-SA. Guaka (talk) 10:42, 30 September 2015 (UTC) Some big changes on the main articleI have made three big changes to the main article, basic income. 1. I have removed the country specific texts to a new article called "Basic income around the world" 2. Instead of using too much space in the main article on pilots I have made a new article, "Basic income pilots". 3. I have added some photos under the headline Advocates and opponents. What do you think about these changes? --Mats33 (talk) 15:38, 2 November 2015 (UTC) Main article cleanup.I cleaned up some stuff on the main article. I disambiguated a wikilink, removed a certain bias, removed a tag that didn't belong there and removed an unnecessary redlink. Not sure if I'm missing something. Hope that helps! A new newsletter directory is out!A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.
Request for information on WP1.0 web toolHello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables. We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC) Basic income advocates vs Basic income proponentsPossible category merge due to meeting the criteria of Wikipedia:Merging (overlap and possibly duplicate). There currently exists the categories Category:Basic income advocates and Category:Basic income proponents. One definition of a proponent is 'One who argues in support of something; an advocate.' These categories seem to significantly overlap and there are some of the same people listed in both categories. The definition of advocate and proponent are very similar and many people listed in one category could be listed in the other or both. It is very difficult to see why many of the people should be listed in one category and not the other. They seem like they could all, or at least mostly, be listed in both categories. Therefore I think something should be changed. Perhaps delete one of these categories and merge those from the deleted category into the remaining one? Any and all thoughts would be much appreciated. Wikipedia:WikiProject Basic Income → Wikipedia:WikiProject Universal Basic Income – The page basic income was re-named to universal basic income after a consensus on the relevant talk page. The category:basic income has also been re-named to universal basic income. For the sake of consistency I think the WikiProject should also be re-named in line with both of these other re-names. I have cleaned up the MAIN basic income page substantially (dec 2020)Hi folks, I have cleaned up the main page on English Wikipedia, "Universal basic income", substantially. Take a look. See also the discussion page for further improvements. Regarding the German Wikipedia, I suggest that they create a special article about Grundeinkommen in Germany. (Like "Basinkomst i Tyskland" on Swedish Wikipedia). --Mats33 (talk) 22:22, 27 December 2020 (UTC) This projecy must be reactivated...The last topic added was three years. Why did the community of advocates abandon it? I want to push to reactivate the this all important adjustment to the Welfare State . But do not know where to start. Going to the Teahouse, as advised, resulted in no help. Meanwhile, there is an overriding question: Why is a social movement with impeccable historical support-precedent spanning more than two centuries, failed to achieve UBI? And, please, no clever explaining-away of the point of this leading question: Something is missing from the framing-strategies used by this liberation movement... possibly awareness of what is known as systemic change resistance? A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach.
