Street NamesI've noticed that the chart of street names in the York, Upper Canada article is in need some corrections and references. Armed with my trusty Appendix C of Toronto: No Mean City, I'll be tackling this task. Does anyone need help with things like renamed streets, street name origins, or referencing them? I have made it possible to add an article to the Canada and Toronto articles at once using {{WikiProject Canada |toronto=yes}}. It can be used along with other Canada projects, for example {{{{WikiProject Canada |toronto=yes |music=yes |nl=yes | class=start |importance=low}} for a band that moved from Newfoundland to Toronto. You can still use the existing {{WikiProject Toronto}} template if you want to use a unique importance rating or use the map= or photo= parameters, but in general it's useful to share the work between projects. --Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 03:10, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Straw pollHi, WikiProject Toronto. I'd like to do a straw poll to see if and how you would like to allow tagging of your articles using a merged template. The Canada template is kind of a top-level catchall template that allows all Canadian WikiProjects to be added to talk pages at once with a standardized setup. If the option is allowed, it would let users add articles to both this project and WikiProject Canada using {{WikiProject Canada |Toronto=yes}}. This is also how articles from projects like Canada Sports and Canada Roads are done, so you would be able to add articles to multiple projects using something like {{WikiProject Canada |toronto=yes |music=yes}}. The projects would share a class rating, but WPToronto would have it's own importance rating using |toronto-importance=. Optionally, it could be set to default to WPCanada's importance if there is no Toronto importance and put the article into the additional category Category:Toronto articles with inherited importance. It would also show the Toronto portal on the template, though we're still looking into exactly how that would look. My questions to you are:

Unreferenced Biographies of Living PersonsThe WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 35,715 as of May 1. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list. New Fort York - Incorrect Caption: "German Prisoners of War"The article correctly notes: "During World War I, the barracks housed German, Austro-Hungarian, and Turkish citizens, who were interned there as enemy aliens." There is a plaque on the site referencing this shameful internment as well. It is my understanding that no prisoners of war were at this location during WWI. Yet, beside the Wiki article is a photo with the caption "German Prisoners of War at Exhibition." This caption should be corrected. Indeed, it is also my understanding that this very photograph shows Ukrainian Canadians who originally came to Canada from territories in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, invited by the Canadian government to help build and populate the young country. However, when checking the history of the Scarborough, Ontario page, apparently someone tried to move it to Scarborough, Toronto but it was reverted back, citing the guidelines of WikiProject Canada as reason. So which do we follow? What is the consensus at the moment about the titles of former municipalities? Peronally, I like the "City of municipality, Toronto" format as it can also be used for the Toronto (former) page to show that it is a distinct part of Toronto, rather than Ontario where doing so would seem like former Toronto is comparable with the current city of Toronto. Roads in TorontoThere was recently an attempt to get rid of articles on roads like Bloor Street and Bathurst Street, and a debate has also broken out as to what those articles should include. To avoid conflicts like this in the future it would be good to have some discussion about what city roads should have articles, and what the content should be. Brackets in city councillor infoboxesThe infobox for Toronto City Councillors currently reads: "Toronto City Councillor for (Ward #) Wardname" (See Doug Ford Jr. or Josh Matlow). Why are the brackets there? I find them confusing and/or distracting. If the ward # were after the ward name, the brackets would seem a little less out of place, but as it stands they are oddly positioned. Hey, a new user recently created Tasty 168, about a chain of bubble tea shops that was founded in Toronto. It was flagged for speedy deletion, but I'm not sure it deserved it. I thought someone here might have a better sense than me about whether or not the chain meets WP:CORP and what the best sources are about it. To the best of my knowledge, the original entry was not created by a Luminato staff member; Luminato, the organization, would prefer if some of the staff directory/advisory committee information was removed. Luminato, would like to see a note about each year's Festival maintained in the entry, as well as an inclusion of the following year's Festival dates. Currently, an entry about the 2011 Festival (June 10-19, 2011) is missing, as are the 2012 Festival dates: June 8-17, 2012. Additionally, the Luminato staff listings that likely should remain in the entry involve Janice Price (Luminato's CEO) and Chris Lorway (Luminato's former Artistic Director). A note should be added to the current entry that Chris Lorway left his position at Luminato as of July 2011 to work with Lord Cultural Resources in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Usually metro-area projects include the things associated with the suburbs too. For instance it's common for major corporations and groups of people to move outside of the core/main city and into the suburbs, but they are still heavily associated with the core city. Articles about places and things about suburbs generally need the attention from the same pool editors who edit articles about places and things in the city limits. Because Toronto is not immensely large, population wise (2,503,281), like New York City is (8 million) and all of its suburbs are in the same territory, the Toronto project should also focus upon not only the municipalities, but also the things within. Undue weight at Toronto District School BoardI think there is undue weight to controversies at Toronto District School Board WhisperToMe (talk) 15:22, 22 September 2014 (UTC) Referring to Toronto subway linesSome editors are replacing Toronto subway lines anmes with their numbers in the text of various articles. there have been two proposals to rename the subway line articles; both were rejected. See Talk:Yonge–University–Spadina line. The TTC is using both the line number and the line name on their Subway/RT page. TTC information makes it clear that they are adding numbers to the names, not phasing out the names. At the end of this video, Chris Uphold of the TTC says this unambiguously. And this news release says: "Subway lines are not being renamed; rather, applying line numbers and colours already in use to existing line names...." Replacing the descriptive name with the undescriptive number does not improve the clarity of the article. I am inviting other editors to dsicuss this to try to stop the edit war. I propose to add the following to the project page:

Anyway, as I was recently browsing, I came across a page (as seen in the link in the title above) that is in need of updates but which has been labeled within the scope of WikiProject Toronto. According to the page's edit history, it was only created as of this year. Given the fact that Scotiabank Theatre is a brand within Cineplex Entertainment, I would think it would be wise to consult the adminstrating editors of that company's page regarding this matter, but in terms of bringing it to your attention, I felt that I should inform you that this Scotiabank Theatre page is presented as though it were exclusive, when in actuality, it stands as merely one of eight locations across the country under the Scotiabank Theatre brand. Therefore, I feel it is advisable to either rename the page Scotiabank Theatre Toronto to more aptly describe the location while maintaining the page's exclusive nature, or pass off the page to the administrating editors of the Cineplex Entertainment page, or work in consultation with said editors to ensure that the page is revamped to incorporate information regarding the other seven Scotiabank Theatre locations in Canada (namely Vancouver, Edmonton, Chinook, Saskatoon, Montreal, Halifax and St. John's). Photos requestHello Torotono, soon will be the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. For this i am trying to generate a list of all related memorials. It has been proposed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Burano (building) that McLaughlin Motor Car Showroom be merged into Burano (building) (assuming the latter article is kept). I think that the content in the McLaughlin Motor Car Showroom article can easily be explained in the context of Burano (building), and the Burano (building) article is of a reasonable size that the merging of McLaughlin Motor Car Showroom will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProjectThe reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them. Portals are being redesigned. The new design features are being applied to existing portals. At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}. The discussion about this can be found here. Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time. BackgroundOn April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals. Metro Toronto borough mayorsIn 1967, Metropolitan Toronto was reorganized and boroughs were created by merging various townships. As a result reeves were replaced with mayors. Most borough mayors have articles on Wikipedia but several are missing. I'm wondering if there's any interest in creating them?:

I'm wondering which, if any, pre-1967 reeves or mayors merit an article (see List of reeves of the former townships and villages in Toronto and also List of reeves and mayors of East York, List of reeves and mayors of Scarborough, Ontario. List of reeves and mayors of Etobicoke, North_York#Governance, and York,_Toronto#Politics ). Before January 1, 1967 there was not only the townships of Etobicoke, York, North York, East York, and Scarborough but also the towns of New Toronto, Mimico, Weston and Leaside; the villages of Long Branch, Swansea and Forest Hill. I wrote an article on North York reeve Norman Goodhead since he was twice a candidate for Metro Chairman and there was a lot of information on him. Oliver Crockford of Scarborough also appears to be notable since he was the force behind the Golden Mile and Chris Tonks of York is notable because he was the focus of a major corruption scandal that made national news - and also remained in politics into the 1970s. This page on the reeves of mayors of Etobicoke[4] has a little blurb on each reeve, William J. Gardhouse later became MPP for York West so he might be notable. If many or most of these reeves and mayors are not notable in their own right I'm wondering if we can build up List of reeves of the former townships and villages in Toronto and the related pages about the townships so that there is at least a few sentences on each reeve or mayor on the page? We're looking for editors to take pictures of cricket grounds which have hosted major matches at international/domestic level. Here are some cricket grounds in Toronto which we currently do not have photos for.
