This talk page is associated with the Rick Riordan task force belonging to WikiProject Novels. This page is used to facilitate the efforts of task force members and other editors in article creation and improvement related to author Rick Riordan.
The Rick Riordan Task Force HR Department is once again proud to advertise for Member Roles, a part of our Outreach Program! These roles are an excellent way to let the other members know about your skills and specialties, or to take a position of leadership in the project. They are open to all RRTF members. Please see the new "/Roles" page for more info and to sign up!
Criticism, comments, and suggestions are welcome below. Especially let us know if you'd like Roles for proofreaders or Trials of Apollo experts, as there aren't any specific titles for these types of editors. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 05:45, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Ship of the Dead just got nominated for speedy deletion because another editor has tagged it as a copyright violation. I personally am not contesting the deletion because, if it really is copy-pasted from another source, then the whole page has to be scrapped and restarted. As it is, it's only got one reference anyway along with a whole host of other problems. If it goes, we'll write up a new draft and send it through AfC. However, if anybody here wants to take on the task of rewriting the current page to save it from deletion, go for it. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 21:12, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The 5% stuff is just because I'm the only editor to have really worked on it recently, so it's possible a second pair of eyes may catch something. Once others've given it a look over, it should be a great GA candidate. Thanks for checking it over. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 04:31, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Whoever has free time coming up should nominate it. You can never tell when a page will start being reviewed, but sometimes it happens right away. We'll all help out, but the reviewer will communicate mostly with the initial nominator. If you've got the time, take the initiative! -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 00:33, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As most of you will know from having read my previous post^, Draft:The Hammer of Thor just got accepted as a mainspace article. This means that it's a candidate for a Did you know? post on the Main Page. Anybody got suggestions for a suitable "hook"? The requirements are here. We've got 7 days from today to nominate a hook, so I will take the best one we can pick here on January 12 and get the process started. List your ideas and vote for the best below. I put up what I could think of, but I think we could do better. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk)
The page was a DYK on January 19. It usually averages around 100 views a day, but on the 19th it got over 3,800! (ref) Thanks to everybody who helped out. We need to do this more often! -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 20:27, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Methychroma: - I think there's an error on the template of your talk page. The roll-call was back in August. I can fix the template, if you'd like. You're not the only person who's had this problem. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 21:45, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Friends. In picking up Hammer of Thor for GA review I saw that it didn't have a Wikipedia:WikiProject Children's literature tag. I thus went through and tagged articles as appropriate with that tag. Doing this quickly it seems like some articles might be good candidates for WP:Merge and so just wanted to introduce myself to the project before you see several such tags from me. Barkeep49 (talk) 17:46, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Barkeep49: - Hey, there, thanks for the intro. Can you let us know what those articles are? We may be able to get a jump on addressing some of their issues. Thanks! -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 21:20, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It feels like there's an article that establishes notability and could be published now. Would suggest saving the links for further content development somewhere and moving it out of draft space (or I would be happy to do so, if needed) and then continuing to improve. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 14:49, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Collaborations and general announcements
If you're looking for something to work on this summer, I just updated the Top 10 candidates for collaboration and added them all to Category:Rick Riordan task force collaborations. I base this list both on what our readers are most interested in (with a pageviews counter [1]) and on what our editors have been working on. Feel free to update it as you need. Definitely check out this list (or our regular to-do list).
Please also keep in mind that we will be starting a new edit-a-thon during June/July (details to be announced). There may be a prize! (I welcome suggestions.) Finally, remember to check in sometime during August or September for our annual roll-call. We are a small task force and it is important that we always keep recruiting and finding ways to engage our members. Don't forget about Member roles!
Have trouble accessing reviews published in journals like Booklist, The Horn Book, and Publishers Weekly? Consider signing up for Wikipedia Library Access. (Info on eligibility here.) This free service helps editors get access to references and material that normally require a subscription. Check it out! -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 03:01, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Second annual Edit-A-Thon
Announcing RRTF's second annual Edit-A-Thon! The event is being held June 23 through July 28 in honor of author Rick Riordan's June birthday and author/illustrator John Rocco's July birthday. The focus of the edit-a-thon will be on expanding Wikipedia's coverage of these two authors in an encyclopedic manner.
The Edit-A-Thon is open to all Wikipedia users - you do not need any experience with Riordan, Rocco, or RRTF! Help is needed in a variety of areas, including referencing, copyediting, and new page creation. Prizes will be given for first, second, and third place and will consist of a barnstar and Amazon gift card. To enter, please visit this page. The winners will be announced by July 31.
This roll-call is now closed. Please do not make any further responses on this page.
Congratulations on another successful year! RRTF has done some good work since our last roll-call. We got our first DYK this year,The Hammer of Thor, which was promoted from draft to article to GA! We've also produced several other drafts and new good articles. We have had a year of new content. It's time to check back in again.

Supporter - School isn't helping me focus on Wikipedia. Wish you all the best. I'll come from time to time, but definitely not a regular anytime soon. WikiPancake🥞16:36, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey all. Writing with some exciting news: Some of you may be aware of the Percy Jackson fan artist "Viria" (some art), widely regarded by fans of the series as both a good artist and accurate to character descriptions. We here at RRTF have often fielded questions about why we can't use her art for character bios. The answer has always been that it is not "official" (as well as various copyright issues).
That answer now has to change. The character bios on Rick Riordan's website - example: Percy Jackson - now contain Viria (real name Viktoria Ridzel) art, licensed for use there by Riordan (and presumably, his publishers). This means Viria artwork is now an official representation of several Riordan characters.
The question now becomes: Do we use this artwork in character bios/book pages? Questions about how to handle copyright can come later (i.e. please do not post anything new yet), but we now have the opportunity to decide if Viria's work should be included on Riordan pages here on Wikipedia. I leave it up to you, the foremost authority on Riordan's works here on the wiki. Please share your thoughts below, and happy holidays. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 23:31, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, but if we decide to use the artwork, I guess that's step one. The current artwork we have is all used through WP:FAIR because it was done by Disney's illustrators, and as such there can only be one file per page. That's caused issues in the past. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 23:49, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
