village name formattingA while back, I discussed Wikipedia:Request a query/Archive 2#identifying a list of toponym articles using a specific title format with No such user. Basically there's a bunch of village articles for Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Serbia that are named "Place (Municipality)" instead of the more normal "Place, Municipality" (WP:NCGN). Since then, I don't think we did much work on this, but it occurs to me now that something that happened in the meantime was @Ponor: who made a bot that did a mass-update on Croatian populated place articles. Could I recruit you to think about writing a bot to try to do these kinds of moves? Or maybe just help generate a reliable list of entries that could be input for a WP:RM? Thanks in advance :) --Joy (talk) 14:38, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
Starting this July, we will see a new contest on the scene - the Developing Countries WikiContest (WP:DCWC)! Think of it as a WikiCup but only for articles and media on developing countries. Competitors may submit GAs, GTs, FAs, FTs, FLs, FPs, and DYK and ITN entries from/on developing countries to gain points and climb the leaderboard. Points are also awarded to those who review GAs, FAs and FLs. Bosnia & Herzegovina is listed as a developing country for the purposes of this contest and articles related to it are eligible to be submitted for points, so I encourage everyone here to sign up and compete with editors from around the world to create high-quality content! Append your name to the DCWC signup page today! A recent example that popped up in my watchlist was [1] where an anonymous left this edit summary:
Obviously this is WP:ASPERSIONS, but at the same time this matter isn't going away and ignoring it is unlikely to de-escalate it... We had a similar set of problems at Talk:Josip Broz Tito and Talk:Nikola Tesla as well, as well as with some of the Serbian-inhabited municipalities in Croatia. In some cases, it's easy to see the rationale - there's going to be a body of work in Cyrillic about the place. Now, the likelihood that this would be seen in a source search by English readers will probably vary by topic. With prominent topics (or prominent cities), esp. those with a notable Serb population, it's easy how this would be relevant. With less prominent ones, it's harder. I can't find some other place where this might have been discussed, so here we go. MOS:LEADLANG is applicable here, but it's a matter of editorial discretion whether this label and text is clutter or not. Maybe we could have a blanket rule to use {{efn}} for such notes in the Federation, where the usage of Cyrillic is probably uncommon? Thoughts, anyone? --Joy (talk) 15:33, 14 August 2024 (UTC) Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thonHello WikiProject Bosnia and Herzegovina: WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!
