@Owen250708, as RandomCanadian said, it's better to use Twinkle for now. Currently, the main priorities are the rewrite and (for now at least) vandalism. However, features such as page deletion have been added to the requested features list, and hopefully, it will be added soon. — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs17:08, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
RedWarn already has {{uw-notcensored}} but a RB reason might be useful as well. “whitewashing” maybe a little bit out of scope, so perhaps an edit summary of “censorship of content” would be useful. However it is hard to tell the difference between unexplained content removal and censorship, and it's likely having to type “rv censorship” is fine in the very few times that obvious censorship can be seen, to prevent adding more elements to the UI. The button system is currently being worked for RedWarn 17, so if the rollback button is added, it would be best to add it then. Hope this helps! Pinging @Paper9oll and @RandomCanadian. — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs17:05, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
@Berrely:Censorship of content is fine and easy to understand, or maybe can wikilink it also. The feature is best used for obvious censorship like removing of scandal or something similar, often in celebrities or politicians articles where such things often happen. —Paper9oll(📣 • 📝)17:14, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
@Paper9oll that makes sense, I was a bit confused on what this would apply to. I'll note it down to hopefully be added when the button system is overhauled in RedWarn 17, as it's quite difficult currently to add a new rollback button. Thanks for suggesting this! — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs17:32, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
When In the "more" dropdown menu (like Twinkle, plain links) is selected and clicking the RW:More from the More dropdown, a blank page with false is returned instead. [2]
In case, you're wondering why I'm able to access the modal popup ealier without getting error page, the example video above is using sidebar option instead of dropdown menu option.
My Firefox version is 86.0 (64-bit) the latest stable version. These bugs doesn't affect Chrome-based browser. —Paper9oll(📣 • 📝)04:17, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Empty dropdown
Hey! I've just installed RedWarn and everything seems to be working fine except for when I try to warn a user and select a 'reason', the droptown seems to be completely empty everytime I do it. I'm using the lates version of Chrome and I've tried reinstalling the tool but I'm still getting the same issue. Any fix? Ziad Rashad (talk) 05:02, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Ziad Rashad, please try opening RedWarn preferences, heading over to the 'warnings' tab and clicking the resynchronize button (to the right of "save changes"). This should resolve your issue :) ✨ Edtalk! ✨ 10:58, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
@Ed6767: Hey! Thank you for the reply. I've noticed that the issue was gone shortly after I posted this but I wasn't sure how or why. This explains everything as I was actually playing around with the preferences earlier and I remember hitting that resync button. That has to be how I accidentally fixed it, thank you though. ahah — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ziad Rashad (talk • contribs)
Quick Templates
Hi, I was trying to create a new QT with RedWarn 16.1, but when I pressed the 'test' button the test interface doesn't show up. Do you know what is causing this? Thanks, User3749 (talk) 11:43, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
@Paper9oll and Ziad Rashad: Hello! Thank you both for reporting these issues. I'm going to check them both out right now to see what's going wrong. Ziad Rashad, I might need some more information to fix your issue. Please reach out to me as soon as you're available. Thanks! Chlod (RW • say hi!) 06:05, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
@Chlod: Hey, thank you for the fast reply! The issue seems to have been completely fixed by itself just shortly after I added my inquiry in here. I don't know if that was on my end or your guys' end but it's somehow fixed now. Thank you though. ahah Ziad Rashad (talk) 06:13, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
@IN: You should get this error instead It looks like this user doesn't actually exist. If you're trying to use a sandbox, try WP:UWSB instead. Else, you should request the speedy deletion of this user page or user talk page under criterion U2 by adding: {{Db-u2}} to the top of this page. If you're still having issues, please let a member of the RedWarn team know.
@IN when I press the “warn” button I get the message shown here. Do you know your browser user agent string (or what browser and it's version) and do you see any errors in the console? (The console can be accessed differently in some browsers, usually you can press ctrl+shift+c and click the “console” tab that appears at the top. — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs20:37, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, I live in mainland China, imgur is not accessible in mainland China. You can try using sm.ms instead.--Alcremie (talk) 06:51, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm getting the same message as Berrely. Would you happen to have disabled Javascript or have any conflicting Wikipedia scripts or browser extensions? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:43, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Recently, I installed User:Awesome Aasim/xfdvote.js . Has anyone tested this script for compatibility with RW's warn?--Alcremie (talk) 06:51, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
It had been working fine for a while, it had all the features I would expect in English Redwarn (minus the lack of translation). Then a few dags ago, whenever I browsed a page on zhwiki I received the RW popup notification "Sorry, we couldn't load the rule database due to an error." Does anyone know where does the issue stem from? Thanks! (also congrats on RW being released for almost a year now!) Happy 2021Eumat114 (Message) 14:46, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
@Eumat114: RedWarn now depends on an on-wiki page for the warning reasons that can be used in the "Warn User" dialog. This page can be found at Wikipedia:RedWarn/Default Warnings. You can create a page with that exact title and contents on zhwiki to get RedWarn working again. Or better yet, you can change the rules inside of it to match the warnings used on zhwiki. I hope this fixes your problem. Cheers! Chlod (RW • say hi!) 15:37, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
When I'm on RedWarn Patrol, clicking on "Return to Wikipedia / Change filter options" doesn't work. Browser console returns the following error:
TypeError: Not enough arguments to Window.postMessage. 32897222-db9f-4181-a5d3-711deddf0fd5:1:1
Attempting to close the RedWarn Preferences doesn't work and also gives the same error (though this time on a different blob, which is 15c5a26c-15bb-4a82-9b23-00739097ae5d:1:1).
"Go to the RedWarn talk page" on "More Options" also doesn't work. This time browser console doesn't give any hints.
I tested this in a fresh profile of the latest version of Pale Moon (29.1.0). So I don't think browser add-ons are causing this problem. pandakekok9 (talk) 07:16, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Cannot add description when publishing new Quick Template?
Hi. So I was just trying to publish one on my quick template packs for use, but immediately after I did so it ended up publishing the pack with a description of "No additional info provided - pack owner, please edit this section and add additional info here or your pack may be removed." It did not prompt me for the description, nor was I expecting to have a description of that. Is it caused by the lack of the prompt for the description of the pack? If so, please add the script to prompt the description of the pack whenever publishing one. Thanks. User3749 (talk) 13:24, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
To fix this problem, please open your RedWarn Preferences (available in the "More Options" menu, the at the top of each page), go to the "Warnings" tab, and select Clear changes and sync with public database. This will fix the problem.
Selecting reasons
Hi there
After I was asked to update my Redwarn, there seems to be a problem, after reverting user’s edit I press the select reason to warn him, but nothing is appearing just white. Unfortunately I got warned because of that error in the system Whatsupkarren (talk) 07:02, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Whatsupkarren: Please try to refresh your local by going to your preferences, going to the "Warnings" tab, and selecting "Clear changes and sync with public database". This should fix the problem. Chlod (RW • say hi!) 07:07, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
I meant your RedWarn preferences. It's on the menu that appears when you select the three dots at the top of each page. Chlod (RW • say hi!) 08:08, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
I tried to use RedWarn to warn the User talk:Sandbox for user warnings but when I clicked the reasons dropdown nothing appeared. I tried manually writing in the template name but nothing happened when I clicked the "Warn this user" button. I was using Google Chrome. Does anyone know what caused this? Thank you, SpacetimeIsCool (talk ∙ contribs) 18:05, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi, due to quirks in the way that Wikipedia parses javascript pages, curly braces are parsed as templates, unless they are inside of <nowiki>...</nowiki>, <pre>...</pre>, <syntaxhighlight>...</syntaxhighlight> ... As a result of this, your script page, User:RedWarn/.js, is generating links in Special:WantedTemplates (in particular links to Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:RWTEXT and Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:RWTEXT\). Recently, an interface editor attempted to fix this by adding <nowiki> at the top and </nowiki> at the bottom of your script page. This didn't work because you already have <nowiki>...</nowiki> on that page. It would be great if you could add <syntaxhighlight>...</syntaxhighlight> tags (you don't have these) at the top and bottom of your page like this which will prevent your page from generating links in Special:WantedTemplates. Thanks for your help! Plastikspork―Œ(talk)14:32, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
(edit conflict) @NGC 54: As of now, there is no easy way of translating the interface. You would have to dig inside of RedWarn's code and weed out the strings, which would be time-consuming due to how unfriendly the current codebase is. We're planning to get RedWarn onto TranslateWiki eventually, but only when we get the new version finished, as the new version relies on an easy-to-use translation file versus the current, which hardcodes its strings. If you're fine with using the English interface, you only have to paste in the following onto your user JS file:
Like what RandomCanadian said though, this also requires the correct user warning templates on the other wiki, either as a redirect or as actual templates themselves. Chlod (RW • say hi!) 19:02, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
No worries, just glad I could help somehow. I can work around it (and it's not a bad idea to every once in a while, otherwise I'll probably forget how everything else works). Thank you! A S U K I T E 02:43, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
This was reverted to the last known working version. Please use the standard method for updating your personal user script. — xaosfluxTalk10:05, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Redwarn disappeared
Does anyone know why my redwarn disappeared? I tried to reinstall it but it doesn't work. Can someone help me?
