Idea for a bot that might be helpful here

Would it be useful to have a bot that would remove all request links once the articles were made?--Urthogie 19:11, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

The only problem I see is that sometimes red links turn blue for the wrong reason, because someone creates an article by the same name on a different topic. In that case the request link needs to be modified/disambiguated rather than removed. --Lph 19:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Lph. But I think it would still be extremely useful. If you can make a bot to hunt them out, we could make a project to go through them and then delete it or do what needs to be done. I think doing it manually once we get the list is the only way to do it because people don't always put dashes around things they add, we we would either end up with floating text related to links that aren't aorund or deleting other links we want to keep. Is there a way to make a bot that can compile a list of the redlinks and their info (say, the whole dash to dash entry plus the category) that are blue? And then there's the issue of removing things from the list (see precious topic ^ ^ ^) Avraham 03:32, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
The Mathbot can do that. It created a subpage of redlinks for me once. Also, the Mathbot is capable of removing stuff supplied to it from a seperate list.--Urthogie 12:09, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Bullets or no bullets, dense vs. sparse

Recently User:Reedy Boy went through and converted a number of the request lists from the dense form they have had for a long time to a sparse bulleted format.

Some of the request lists have been bulleted for a while (e.g. Requested_articles/Applied_arts_and_sciences), but most were dense until recently. Personally, I prefer the dense format presentation (easier to glance over a section and less scrolling), but I certainly don't want to edit war over something as silly as RA. I would like to actually discuss having a formatting standard for these pages, and whether people prefer the dense or sparse layout. If the consensus is for the dense format, I volunteer to convert them back. Dragons flight 18:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Of the 9 primary pages listed on RA, you seem to have converted 7 of them (one of which was immediately reverted), so I'm not sure what "most" you are talking about. Having bullets was the exception rather than the rule before you came along. Dragons flight 18:49, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

I'll jump in here as the person (or one of the people) who switched some pages to the bulleted format several months ago. Although I believe the bulleted format is easier to read, the major motivation was to allow people to add a bit of information on the topic without really making a mess of the list. The Applied arts and sciences page is a good example of how additional info can be added. Having said that, I'm not going to agonize over it either way. One thing for us all to consider is ease of use by those adding items. I'm assuming that most people adding items will be inexperienced users. I'm not sure if this speaks for or against the use of bullets, but I do think it's an important consideration. –RHolton≡– 22:56, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

So the edit summary in my watchlist takes the form /* A-G */ which is not very informative: Which section has the letters A-G ? Recently renamed each subsection with the parent name, or abbreviation => A-G (ABC), H-M (ABC) [for "Architecture, buildings, city planning and public space"]. The caption page is a disambiguation page, so just redirecting cutline to there won't be very helpful in finding out what it is. Seeing that captions to pictures does not have a Wikipedia entry, it is advisable to start a Caption (labels) article and explain what a caption AND a cutline is, then have cutline redirect to captions. -- Emana 18:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Splitting into more pages

Some subpages, like Cultures&Arts are getting extremely long (257 kB, more than 100 screens to scroll through), which makes them difficult to navigate and difficult edit. I will split some of them into sections in a few days, if nobody disagrees. Cheers! Peter S. 14:20, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

I request we make it easer to request articles

I wanted to request an article for wikipedia, and found my way to this page, but I cant make any sense out of it. The intro says this is the page to request articles - really? Where do I put in my request? What the hell are all these lists? It doesn't make sense to me. It also says, "you may be looking for this page" - could it atleast tell me what that page is, and how its related to requesting articles? (it isn't at all, by the way). Why do articles get deleted?

The entire content of the britpicking article was:

Ensuring that Americans use British English when writing fanfics for a story by a british author.

It was deleted by User:Postdlf without reason. Probably because it's a neologism. It's unfortunate that you weren't alerted of the reason. Admins should show more respect when deleting an article. —Pengo 09:35, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Requesting a new topic heading:enviromental pollution

The topic heading "enviromental pollution" only fits uneasily with the other, already present, headings on enviromental and on pollution. Could someone please consider adding that heading to the list of topics?

Where to put historic US Federal regulatory programs?

I was surprised to find no article on the "Emergency Building Temperature Restrictions," a set of building temperature regulations promulgated by the Carter administration in the late 1980's. They were rescinded early in the Reagan administration, and were of questionable benefit (there is some academic lierature on this), but were quite an expensive regulatory load on businesses during the years they were in effect. Where would this sort of thing go in Wikipedia? N2e 23:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Can anyone who monitors this page help with this question? The request is not for a new article, but rather for help in figuring out the category or categories such an article might go into. Or even a pointer to some other similar article about a US Federal government regulatory regime that had a notable impact on business, consumers or state/local governments. Thanks. Where did the Geography topic go?

I wanted to request an article with countries with lowest points bellow sea level (such as Dead Sea) but I could not manage to find where to put the request. So where are u supposed to?

Such a request is unlikely to succeed due to problems with the attribution family of policies and the notability guidelines. If you can find major press coverage about, for instance, Internet service providers blocking Encyclopedia Dramatica, then that could be considered a reliable source. However, I do not think any reliable sources currently exist. Locating categories for article requests

I am currently considering requests for articles on possibly two companies. I found that Natural Wonder Cosmetics, unwritten as of 7 May 2007, may mean two articles. I already know about the Revlon subsidiary brand, but I ran across information about an alien corporation of the same name in India. The article(s) needed would classify as Business or Applied arts and sciences, but I could not find a subcategory (linked from the main Requested articles page) particularly appropriate to a requested Cosmetics/Perfumery article. Cleanup

I find that some requests are complete nonsense or inappropriately categorized. But when I try to take appropriate actions, the rubbish ends up right back where it was. Is there a "Request for Removing Requests" method?

As an example, what does "Safe Slots" have to do with Astronomy in the Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Natural_sciences#Astronomy_and_cosmology section? A search of google makes it appear more appropriate for gambling. I see nothing relevant to astronomy. Thanks. — RJH (talk) 18:06, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

There are BOTZ that spam RA boards, so you'll have to keep on deleting them, or just leave them and tag them with some kind of comment that only humans will understand. Do YOU want to create it or do you WANT one created? The best way is to start a {{stub}} article and tag it with an {{expand}} tag. Also, remember to add category tags like "Category:Shopping malls" so that it gets noticed by people who troll through related articles. -- Emana 22:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I need a fairly big re-organiztion to ...

The WikiProject Mathematics people are territorial about their "mathematical logic." In their view its just totally not logic or philosophy so they insist that it be separate. At some point I am intending to make a way for the people who reach logic through philosophy have equal access. I am proposing that philosophy be taken out of "social sciences and philosophy" and put under humanities and culture. I need a way to make a transclusion from that section to the requested articles/logic section. It wont work under the current scheme (#Logic). Alternatively, maybe someone could come to my aid in the whole math v phil battle over mathematical logic.Gregbard 03:51, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Falsely accused category

like for murderers who aren't actually murderers and get released, or any trail with considerable doubt or controversy surrounding the Jury decision, a perfect example would be the two Philly mafia who just got released because of the FBI getting forced to admit to their framings in their attempts to plant a mole in the organizations frameworks, on their release they were given like 200,000 dollars US for every year they were in jail..anyways that was recent. through the years i am sure there are many cases especially the ones we have documented here already that can be put in this category, if not just a link or a bot that will direct one to a page with a list of said cases, and their controversial natures.

All Artist Should be Hyperlinked Regardless

There seems to be a trend in Wikipedia where both major and minor white artist are extensively reported and acknowledged here whereas minority artist (and their artworks be it song or other mediums) are substantially under-represented on Wikipedia. This is not rhetoric that I am stating here. It is a fact. Take the time and look up ten songs from the past 30 years by white artist. Click all of the hyperlinks in those articles and recognize the extent of the lineage that is reported. Then do the same searching for hits using minority artist. You will see that my statement is true. A fine example of this can be found in the search for : (NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY WAY OF PITCHING FOR JHELISA'S INCLUSION INTO WIKIPEDIA ALTHOUGH I THINK SHE SHOULD BE--I FEEL I HAVE A VALID POINT AND JUST WANT PEOPLE TO THOROUGHLY CONSIDER IT BEFORE DISMISSING IT) Jhelisa (or Jhelisa Anderson)[she is notable for being one of the performers in the group The Shamen, as a vocalist on Bjork's album Debut, as a solo artist with some radio hits, did a well received tribute album to Nina Simmone while in Louisiana but more recently she lost an entire album she had recorded and completed in her studio in Louisiana due to hurricane Katrina that she ultimately re-created in part because of what lead to it's destruction and signifficantly morphed the album into a protest piece among other things--WHICH LENDS CREDENCE TO POSSIBLY ANOTHER TOPIC THAT COULD BE CREATED: "Albums/Songs/Works Lost by and then Re-created by the Artist" or something similar. As you are aware Hendrix lost half of the Axis: Bold As Love album master in a taxi and had to recreate the tracks because of the fiasco. There are other artist that have been through this and their stories are interesting but more important a part of history that went into creating important works of art that have helped enrich the lives of many as well as the art form. And I am sure the same could be said about any number of works in any number of mediums out there and let's face it, a part of what makes reading an article in Wikipedia so much fun is learning great interesting tid-bits like these!

Wikipedia is often criticized by the media for it's fact-checking flaws (which is unfortunate since your standards are pretty high and there is an entire community out there double checking everything and editing/discussing every entry it seems) and slanted representation of history. I quite enjoy Wikipedia and think that it is a brilliant concept that for the most part is a reliable source for what it does provide in terms of the permitted information that is found on it. My gripe is that it is repeating the same pattern as its predecessors --those exclusionary history books we read in school from long ago. The were selective about just whose history you would learn about. I implore you to consider this carefully and fairly before judging what I have said here. It is easy to dismiss someone's opinion if you've never truly considered it.

If you're going to report an artist and another artist name is in it, I propose that both names are hyperlinked. No Way to Request a "Special" (Administrative) Article, and My Request for Wikipedia Visitor Browser Stats

I'm not seeing any way to request a new type of "Specialized Item" on the Requested Articles page. Only those 3 bulleted subjects are available (translations, pictures, current events).

This makes it impossible for me to make the following request...

I think Wikipedia should publish browser statistics (browser, platform, monitor color/res, etc) of visitors to Wikipedia.

These statistics are vital for Web designers, and (unlike most commerical Web sites) Wikipedia with its public service mandate should be making this info freely available.

There is a "Statistics" page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Statistics

But it just has a little info about the number of Wikipedia articles. (Incidentally, from the name it's not clear what kind of stats it's for, and it could be expanded greatly with detail.)

I propose two special pages:

  • Wikipedia Article Statistics
  • Wikipedia Visitor Browser Statistics

The browser stats page could have:

  • a link to directly see Wikipedia's internal server log analysis app reports, or
  • an automated printout from that internal server log analysis app, or
  • manual updates occasionally (monthly) with the data.
Those statistics are in general simply not existent. A lot of that stuff simply is not gathered in the first place. The devs say they can't enable the kind of logging you want because Wikipedia simply gets too many millions of hits to record that stuff. Heck, they can barely keep any of the database dumps going, much less provide all that stuff you're asking for. --Gwern (contribs) 12:44 23 October 2007 (GMT)

I tried to create an article about my favorite wiki (besides wikipedia of course) but it was instantly deleted by someone.I spent 30 minutes creating the article only to have it erased. Can someone on here create an article for wikiair.com? It's a website that I check as an airline pilot before I leave on every trip.
