Archived sandox linkUnder the 'Humor' section, the link to a sandbox edit, titled 'This version is amusing' does not appear to be working. Clicking it gives me the error: "The database did not find the text of a page that it should have found, named "Wikipedia:Sandbox,oldid=7310538"." Hazzamon 10:52, Nov 25, 2004 (UTC)

6 Degrees of SeparationHey, I have an idea about the 6 degrees of seperation. Instead of following links just seeing where ever we end up. I propose that a start page be chosen at random and then a goal page be selected at random again and see how long it takes to get from the start to the goal by folowing links in the manner described of say every 5th link. The start and the goal pages could be announced and then when someone is tired of following the links the last page that they were on could then be announced for someone else to pick up on and follow. I think it would be a cool idea! Jaberwocky6669 09:29, Dec 13, 2004 (UTC)

Idea: Votes for inclusionWell, I just came up with this fun idea. It's like a competition on article writing. There is a page, where people add random tasks like "create an article that links both to Bart Simpson and Exploding whale" or "create an article that contains a phrase "jumping off the bridge is bad for your health"". Articles should be created as subpages or sections of VfI. Then the fun part begins: people vote for inclusion of these articles in the main namespace! If one manages to create such article, he is considered a winner. Grue 11:59, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC) I think this sounds like a fun idea. I'm not sure how many of these articles would actually get onto main namespace, but they would certainly be humourus. I don't see why we shouldn't try it out. If it fails, then oh well. The only thing that it is lacking is a catchy name. Something like "Random Task Article" would probably be good. I support this for inclusion. DannyQuack 23:42, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Movement to unshift "|"I was wondering if there would be any interest in starting a movement to replace the "\" key with an unshifted "|" key? And someone please don't say, "Set it as a macro," because where's the fun in that? -- addesso 22:49, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Wikifiction ?I was thinking about starting a page labled WikipediaFiction:Deletionist-Inclusionist War, creating an alternate history fiction about a battle that occoured between the two viewpoints of wikipedians. This would make a new category for search and such, WikiFiction or WikipediaFiction. I would have went ahead with it, but I am a little shy since I am a new member. If someone else starts off or says its a good idea, i'd like to try it. The idea would be to illustrate actual historical events of wikipedia that lead to the formation of such groups as the Association of Apathetic Wikipedians, the Association of Deletionist Wikipedians , the Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians, or the Association of Wikipedians Who Dislike Making Broad Judgements About the Worthiness of a General Category of Article, and Who Are In Favor of the Deletion of Some Particularly Bad Articles, but That Doesn't Mean They are Deletionist Any ideas? -scnd ObligatoryAll your fun are belong to us. --Wikipedia. Right now I'm only accepting songs that I feel are considered to be classic rock, however if the DOF has a problem with it being only for one specific genre, I'll change it to all songs in English. The only thing I won't do is start off the survey new. Hey...classic rock is the superior genre anyway. Wikiquiz?Hi-been pointed here from the Reference Desk.I had an idea for a 'general knowledge quiz' on perhaps a weekly or fortnightly basis with maybe 50 or 100 questions. As these would be taken from a wide range of topics within Wikipedia(maybe including a special section with questions based on that week's featured articles/pictures),it should encourage Wikipedians to go exploring through a wide variety of articles to find the answers. Perhaps there can be some sort of reward for the winner-maybe a small box with This Week's Winner displayed and some sort of small prize. I would be more than happy to organize questions, receive and mark answers etc. So-is this feasible? Is it a good idea?Any suggestions as to how to improve this? SudokuThere should be a page for Wikipedians to create, and solve each other's, sudoku puzzles. --Friendly Porpoise 02:19, 1 October 2006 (UTC) Funniest Edit Summaries???I just had such a good laugh-out-loud burst of laughter, over one of my own edit summaries that took a sudden turn into humor, that I got to thinking, "There should be some sort of award for really funny edit summaries." As near as I can determine, there is no such award. But at the very least, there really ought to be a place where people can post their funny edit summaries for everyone to enjoy. (Well, probably not everyone, but a handful, at any rate... ) Of course, this assumes that I am not alone in the universe, and that other people also write funny edit summaries on occasion. On the other hand, it may be that this suggestion will be construed as encouraging a sort of vandalism, whereby individuals who are lacking in scruples might seek out bits of text to edit purely for the purpose of appending a humorous edit summary. (Then again, considering how few people even bother to supply a useful edit summary, perhaps that's not too great a risk!) On the off chance that I've whetted your appetite for humorous edit summaries, I feel obligated to share the one that inspired this possibly half-baked idea in the first place. It began when I read the half-dozen entries in the "Trivia" section of the Dr. Seuss article. The final item read as follows:
It was written so matter-of-factly that it almost seemed plausible. But having walked enough streets in La Jolla to know better, I realized that I was duty bound to delete this brazenly absurd claim... even if it did fit in rather nicely with the (inherently humorous) contents of the article. Naturally, my edit summary couldn't help but reflect the undercurrent of playfulness that occasioned my edit:
Cgingold 14:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC) Okay, I swear on a stack of Wikipedias that I didn't go looking for this. I've made scores of edits in the past 5 days, and I happened upon this item purely by chance, as I was posting a request for an article about "Deafness around the world". A little way down the list where I inserted my request, I spotted a decidely odd request for an article about "Mike is better than Jake Theory". After approx. 2 seconds of puzzlement, I reached the obvious conclusion -- and took the necessary action: (→Anthropology, Sociology, Class Structure - deleted "Mike is better than Jake Theory" - this is obviously a joke, since everyone knows that Jake is better than Mike :)) Project directoryHello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. Along with all the serious work we do, a bit of community is also needed to keep spirits up. Its also somewhat ironic that Esperanza in spanish is "hope", yet all the "hope" is being deleted. Keep up the good work. If the Department of Fun and especially WP:BJAODN goes, Wikipedia will be so much more of a sadder place :( --tgheretford (talk) 15:42, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Thanks to everyone who actually did contribute, sorry I was such a lazy maintainer... ;-) — Martin Ultima ( WikicartoonHere's an idea. WikiGame idea for the departmentWhy not a section for Fortunately, Unfortunately? It would work pretty well in a WikiAtmosphere. In case you don't know what it is, it's basically like this: "One day Little Johnny walked to the local shoe shop. Unfortunately, Little Johnny was hit by a refrigerator. Unfortunately, Little Johnny was hit by a refrigerator." etc. People alternate back and forth. Even better, why not just Unfortunately, where things progressive get worse. "One day Bob slept in the street, unfortunately, a semi flattened him, unfortunately, people thought he was a giant pancake, and ate him, unfortunately, he was still alive, etc." I think the latter idea is better. Any thoughts? MalwareSmarts 21:41, 6 August 2007 (UTC) |
