UnrealI can't wait for the season to be over. I've never seen vandalism that heavy. This is what I imagine the edit history on Trump's page would be like if it was unprotected for 30 minutes. Lizard (talk) 02:55, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
@Yankees10: Have you ever considered running? You have the tenure, the edits, the experience, a clean block log (for at least seven years), and, in my experience, the temperament. I haven't the time to do a full review, but I would encourage you to submit your name here to potentially get some feedback and throw your hat in the ring. Anyway, with regard to this specific issue, I am well aware of the amount of vandalism that can happen on articles when a subject does something noteworthy (or not, in this case). It's one of the reasons I hate the MLB Trade Deadline. But, it's the price we pay for being an encyclopedia that anyone can edit. I'd encourage following up on the proposals discussed at WP:RFPP about noting BLPs and the number of edits made recently. I can try to be available at least for some of next Sunday evening. Just looking looking at the AFC QBs, 13 out of the 16 teams could have had their starter be a Pro Bowler. The following list is in order of passing yards.
For the record, the NFC side isn't as bad. The five players currently listed on the 2017 Pro Bowl page are the only ones who were invited as far as I can tell. The AFC had too many declined invites and injuries. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 18:44, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

"Advanced metrics"Is this supposed to be football's sabermetrics? Most of this stuff is Greek to me and has no value to the average reader. That one guy's getting annoying. I always wonder what goes through an editor's mind when all their edits get reverted and they truck along continuing to make the same edits. Are they oblivious? Do they just not care? It's one of the great mysteries of the human race. Lizard (talk) 23:22, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
i agree. advanced metrics are more sophisticated stats akin to sabermetrics. i'm personally interested in collaborating with User:Lizard the Wizard and User:Yankees10 to incorporate remarkable info into wikipedia's pro football player pages only when the information is noteworthy or newsworthy, particularly interesting to the average fan, and includes a trustworthy source reference. i see User:Lizard the Wizard and User:Yankees10 are doing an excellent job curating many of the pro football player pages. i love wikipedia and i love football stats. is there a specific protocol that i can follow to contribute to these pages while ensuring my work is not reverted by an established page curator? i also noticed a reversion comment questioning playerprofiler as a source. i have yet to encounter an incorrect stat on one of the playerprofiler pages and believe it has become the authoritative source for many interesting stats and metrics such as catch radius, deep ball accuracy, yards after contact, etc. unlike much of sabermetrics, i believe many football metrics are straightforward concepts that are consumable and interesting to the average reader. for example, i believe many patriots fans would be interested to know that dion lewis leads the nfl in evaded tackles per touch over the last two seasons. also, for wikipedia users interested in learning more about football advanced metrics, i found this link, which lays out the origin and current source of numerous advanced stats: https://www.playerprofiler.com/terms-glossary/.-Mkelley78

Alex ReyesI'm not understanding your objection to having a line mentioning and linking to the other players who have had Tommy John surgery. besides Alex Reyes. If the additional information is accurate, not contentious and contains a wiki link, why do you feel the arbitrary need to remove the line, in the quote below? Could you possibly explain the reasoning or rule that has you so upset that it can't be there for those who want to see the listing? There are those who wonder if he is unusual in having it as a rookie and only 22, so the link gives them direct access to the list. That's the reason why I included it, so I hope it will explain and refute your unusual objection in smearing it ("this is silly", "still no reason to have this") as you did in your comments, which I thought was out-of-line for such an innocent addition. I would appreciate it if you would reassess your arbitrary deletion and re-add it. Thanks. "He is among many other players who have had the surgical procedure." Teddy BridgewaterI referenced Bridgewater's college QBR (a popular QB efficiency metric) and included a link to the QBR wiki page to provide additional context. I am investing significant time into contributing interesting information, and try to be self aware, but here I don't see where/how I err'd. I sincerely concerned about wasting time and energy while simultaneously creating work for you... Can you briefly explain why the contribution was reverted?Mkelley78 (talk) 15:13, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
I respectfully disagree with this opinion. For example, QBR is widely used by ESPN and is considered noteworthy to many mainstream sports media members and Wikipedia users. Additionally, PlayerProfiler, like Pro Football Focus, is widely considered a trusted data source by advanced stats aficionados. I believe discrediting it as knockoff is unfair as I have been using the site for years and have yet to find unverifiable/inaccurate data. Furthermore, Pro Football Focus does not make it's data publicly available, so it cannot be referenced, and is therefore not a true comparison. For this reason, I believe PlayerProfiler deserved more mention on Wikipedia, not less. What more can I do to help to ensure that my contributions that reference PlayerProfiler are not removed in the future? Not only because it's consistent with how the NBA and MLB do it, but it's also awkward wording. You wouldn't say "he was the NFL's season rushing yards leader five times," but you might say "he was the NFL's annual rushing yards leader five times." Recent ReversionsI had a great back and forth with User:Lizard_the_Wizard on my talk page regarding the general content restrictions enacted by NFL player page curators, and I have been following those guidelines above and beyond Wikipedia's general guidelines. To my dismay, I noticed a flurry of reversions rolling back many hours of notation work. I would appreciate it you could take a look at my talk page and respond with a general explanation for the reversions.Mkelley78 (talk) 20:34, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
After significant due diligence on PlayerProfiler, I concluded it is reliable. Have you read objections to its citation? Have you encountered significant inaccuracies on the site? Regarding your second objection, the information reverted such as yards after the catch is both relatable to casual sports fans and noteworthy to more sophisticated sports information consumers. The recent reversions conflict with wikipedia's stated reversion guidelines. These guidelines ensure that editors such as myself are not demoralized and driven off the platform by having their hard work deleted by others based on acute notion of relevancy or arbitrary notion of reliability: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Revert_only_when_necessary Communication is the key to avoiding conflict per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Edit_warring. Please engage me on my talk page before making a reversion as I am always happy to talk about the content I'm providing to ensure that it resonates as much as possible with wikipedia readers.Mkelley78 (talk) 20:57, 3 April 2017 (UTC) You do a great service culling false information, opinions lacking citation, and original research from this platform, and you recently reverted one of my contributions deeming it not something the average person would find interesting. Wikipedia's mission is not to create an average information source, and as cited above, the documented standards for reverting contributions are higher than one editor's opinion of the average reader's sophistication and preferences. I will continue to strive to enhance the information on football player performances available on this platform. Mkelley78 (talk) 14:14, 21 April 2017 (UTC) I have reviewed your recent reversions and concluded my contributions were noteworthy, relevant, and consumable to a wide audience. Beyond this point, your general reasoning for the original reversion conflicts with Wikipedia's stated reversion guidelines. He didn't play an official game in 2005. but was under contract with the (D)Rays and spent the season rehabbing, even played in some extended spring training games. Cutting that season out of the infobox entirely makes it look like he was out of baseball as a free agent, which was not the case. Also, he's been a coach of some sort in the Rays organization since his retirement, and the infobox should reflect that. And your edit summary made my point about his position - he played across the outfield. I'll go one further; Rocco made 28 total appearances in CF from 2006 to 2010 but 48 in RF or LF (and one at 3B with Boston, which must've been interesting). Listing him as an outfielder covers all the bases, as it were. Zeng8r (talk) 12:33, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

Why? His old photo was from the Patriots. He is now with the 49ers. The photo I updated was him with the 49ers - why do you want to show a photo of him with the Patriots?
I think his Patriots photo is very slightly better, but I do not believe it is significant enough to replace the photo. He is with the 49ers now and I think a photo of him in a 49ers uniform is what most people would expect to see on his Wiki page. I read in your user page and like you, I am neither a Patriots nor 49ers fan. So, my motivation to update this photo is not biased upon a fan perspective. Therefore, I respectfully disagree with your revert and request that you reconsider and reinstate my edit. --chipermc 01:25, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

That certainly shows him to be a notable Mets minor leaguer in their view. Why is the Yankees10 view more important than their view? Please restore him. As to whether there is a redirect or not, I don't think it is the most important thing, but if someone wants to make it a redirect once you have restored it they will be able to do that. I don't think your view here should be more important than that of MLB Pipeline and MiLB.com. --2604:2000:E010:1100:4DC6:EF46:3E54:91D4 (talk) 08:48, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
Also - your redirect comment in your deletion edit summary misses the fact that IPs can and I understand regularly do have a normal "redirect requested" process. That's not a reason for you to delete the catcher. Even though you gave it as a reason in your edit summary. Please restore what you deleted. If not, please open up discussion at a baseball talk board on wp, pointing to this discussion. So others can speak about whether they think it is right for you to substitute your personal (one editor) view, for the views that were footnoted to MiLB.com and MLB Pipeline. I don't think the view of any one editor should be more important than the views of footnoted respectable sources that are cited. 2604:2000:E010:1100:4DC6:EF46:3E54:91D4 (talk) 18:22, 23 November 2018 (UTC) Justin BourHi Yankees10. I noticed you have removed from the intros of various MLB players the fact that they are the career active leaders in major league baseball in various categories. Like at bats per home run. In your personal view, from some of your deletions where you left edit summaries (other times you deleted without any explanation, like it was vandalism, which obviously it was not, and even worse you used rollback tools to do that which is a no no), you seem to have the subjective view that the additions are not (in your opinion) "intro worthy." I disagree. They to me are worthy of a lede. But at the very least, if you think that, why not just move the info to the 2018 section of each article? That it seems to me would do less damage to the article and wikipedia than deleting it .. since your complaint was not about whether it is of interest to readers, but intro worthy. --2604:2000:E010:1100:A1C9:3376:1282:532D (talk) 18:32, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
Tom CrowderGood afternoon, I created the article Tom Crowder, who was one of the best special teams players in the history of the University of Arkansas. He spent 2 years in the NFL mainly on the practice squad. Although he was promoted one year to the regular roster, he was not activated to play in the NFL. He also played in NFL Europe. The problem is that because he never played one game in the NFL, the article was deleted. I wanted to ask you if there is another way that somebody else can push the creation of this article ?, maybe they will have better luck. I can provide all of the content so they can review and make the changes required. Regards Tecmo (talk) 23:50, 16 February 2019 (UTC) Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm not sure I have an argument to dispute the deletion. They said that a football player needs to play at least one NFL game or have something that distinguished him in college. This player was not an All-American.Tecmo (talk) 02:50, 17 February 2019 (UTC) Smoky BurgessSince you've been around a while, I won't template you. Who do you think you are that you can repeatedly (three times now) change information contrary to a reliable source (New York Times), and then LIE about what's in the source? Here is a direct quotation from the NYT article: "Forrest (Smoky) Burgess, who formerly held the major league career record for pinch-hits, died Sunday at Rutherford Hospital." NOWHERE in the article is there a reference to Asheville. And if you will look at the hospital's website [14], you will clearly see that it is located in Rutherfordton. Now, I assume that this settles the matter, because if it doesn't, we'll be discussing edit warring, unsourced edits, and misrepresenting a source in an edit summary at WP:ANI. In fact, you need to revert your edit and get it right or we'll just go ahead and begin the discussion. I'll give you 24 hours. And since this WP:OWN issue seems to be a pattern for you, some of us will be following your edits for a while. And please. Don't try to lie your way out of this. You've been caught red-handed; cut your losses and move on. If you had mistakenly made the edit ONCE, I would have fixed it and left the issue alone. But three reverts and a lie is unacceptable. What you didn't count on is that someone who actually knew Smokey might visit his article. You have 24 hours to fix the article, and don't claim in the edit summary that it was an honest mistake. It was a lie. Thank you. 75.182.115.183 (talk) 22:54, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Edits to Cubs player pagesGreetings. I noticed that you deleted several edits that I made to recent Cubs player pages. I’ve found that a number of Cubs pages, especially for relief pitchers, need updating. While we may disagree about what is notable or not, this is a project I would like to take on. As such, I need some leeway to make gradual updates to each profile. My updates may appear piecemeal, but I can’t do them all at once. If you have any suggestions on how to improve the quality of the edits, please advise. But I ask that they not be deleted wholesale. Thank you. Proper information for Player intro paragraphHello again. Regarding your undoing my deletion of a lone ASG appearance in Brad Brach’s intro, please elaborate on your standard here. I agree that an ASG appearance should be discussed in the body of the article (in the relevant season), but a lone appearance carries insufficient weight for a player’s intro. Other than basic player info (name, birth, position, teams), I believe the only information compelling enough for the intro is perennial all-star status, titles, sufficiently important records, and major non-sports related news Is there a template on what should (not) be included in an athlete’s intro paragraph? Larry Dierker Page UpdateBack on May 23, you reverted some edits I made to Larry Dierker's Page, stating that Wikipedia is not an ad. I definitely don't want to post that information as an ad, but I do want to communicate that he has pursued other things in his later career. Do you have any recommendations on what content should be removed that would make it seem like it isn't an ad? I've reviewed the guidelines and I'm still not 100% sure. Here's the original content: In 2017, Dierker teamed up with Benjamin Scardello of Houston, Texas to promote over 500 original and unique Baseball Stories Dierker had researched, written and recorded between 1982 and 1995. The stories contain information starting from the early days of baseball around 1900. The two agreed to a digital entrepreneur endeavor to build a Podcast Website, www.49sfastball.com, converting the Baseball Stories into easily accessible Podcasts. The stories include a wide range of subjects and little known “back story” narratives about Players, Stadiums, Records, Promos and Unusual Events, Pitching, Openers and Debuts, Hitting, and All-Star Games. The Podcasts can be heard on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, AnyPod, Stitcher, Tune In, and Soundcloud. In addition to the Podcasts, other relevant baseball information is available on the website including, Current Blog Articles, a Vast MLB Resources Section linking visitors to all of the top baseball websites, including colligate baseball. There’s even a “Contests and Prizes” section where participants can win MLB Baseball memorabilia. Both Dierker and Scardello look to advance and promote the interest in our National Past Time by providing a look at baseball from a different time and a unique perspective. Subjectivity: MLB; big league(s); major league(s)I have learned from you. I cannot figure out how to successfully approach any level of pleasing your seemingly random requests. Are you a writer (of any notoriety)? Allowing that you are and given your pre-existing knowledge that we are to alternate between proper names or pronouns (you’ve no doubt seen my past citations for he-he-he’s, etc.), what breaks from protocol in the course of a written piece by alternating MLB, big league(s), and Major league(s)? Need opinion of someone that has been thereHello! I was going through Calvin Johnson's page and adding some references. I noticed on Pro-Football-Reference.com's Play Index that it was going to be moved at some point in the future. That could cause a lot of heartburn on going through some references that are from the Index and trying to correct later on. I figured that I can archive some of those Play Indexes if those remain suitable. It will be quiet an endeavor but some of those tasks just are on here. It got me thinking about the InternetArchiveBot. It can automatically assign a archived link to references missing the backup. Is this alright to run on some articles? The reason I am asking is that on the last edit I made to Johnson, it added over 20,000 bytes of data to the page. I do not want to cause grief on many articles by doing this. I welcome any and all advice. Red Director (talk) 18:58, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Rgalo10 (talk) 05:27, 30 November 2020 (UTC) Please don't remove my contribution for no reason.Hi. I am a user who contributed to Bill Dickey. I edited this page, with two bases. 1. You can find this sentence in this image. ".... PLAYED WITH YANKEES, CHAMPIONS OF 1932-36-37-38-39-41-42-43. WHEN CLUB WON 7 WORLD SERIES ... "(But I think 42 is wrong. The champion of 1942 is Cardinals, not Yankees.) 2. https://www.mlb.com/player/bill-dickey-113340. MLB.com's record of MLB players. , '1928, 49~53, 56' are not recorded on these two bases. And the pages also says that his career ended in 1946 and that he was only with the Yankees in 1946 as a manager. Then how could he have won after 1946? Is it possible? Independent Baseball LeaguesHello, I was the guy who you undid all his edits to the players in the American Association with Wikipedia pages. I was just curious why don’t we include their time on those teams. Because we include time spent in the NPB and KBO. Any answer would work fine for me and I will remember that for future reference. ParkerLyme (talk) 02:56, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Really?[21] Strikes me as kind of an odd standard? To me, it seems more confusing to exclude those years in the middle for a reader ... he was still a member of the team those intervening seasons. Is this written down somewhere? I know we don't list years in infoboxes if they never play in a game (or sometimes they get the * for being an offseason member only), but this seems like a kind of silly approach. Unless I'm missing something? Not a huge deal in any case; was just curious if you happened to know the origin of this approach. Hope you're well! All the best, Go Phightins! 00:02, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

I looked for it a while back, but could never find it. I enjoy editing minor league and obscure player articles, so that would be a big help. Also, on a separate note, why is the “40-40 club” not considered a career highlight in the MLB player infobox? It’s arguably the most exclusive group in all of baseball. I only ask because the “50-40-90 club”(a comparable and equally elusive feat) is considered a career highlight in the NBA player infobox. Removing Cody BellingerWhile I appreciate your edit, I am disappointed in the tone used in your edit summary (This is literally standard). The bulk of my work the past eight months has been on professional athlete articles, mostly in MLB, and all of my baseball GAs (and one FAC) have the abbreviation after the first introduction of Major League Baseball in the lede. Clearly this was a one-time mistake that I likely would have caught during my upcoming full-article sweep, not an intentional change that I plan on fighting. I can see how it would be taken that way, given that other users do make these changes, but I was hoping that, in the context that I am a regular editor working on a large-scale revision of Bellinger, that it would be understood that this is one of those simple oversights that occur during prose expansion rather than a deliberate change. — GhostRiver 17:30, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

agreed they have no long term notability so I think that removing these once the two year mark hits would be easy enough. This is also important in instances when a player has been out of the league for years but then recieves a workout such as Kaepernick or Marcell Dareus. It is a justification for why they are still listed as “free agents” Bears247 (talk) 23:39, 14 November 2022 (UTC) I missed reversing that last edit, sorry. And I agree, that article is a pain. However, you should know that adding a bare URL is not ideal, and exposes the reference to linkrot. It is preferable to use proper citation templates when citing sources. A bare URL is a URL cited as a reference for some information in an article without any accompanying information about the linked page. In other words, it is just URL copied and pasted into the Wiki text, inserted between <ref>...</ref> tags, without title, author, date, or any of the usual information necessary for a bibliographic citation. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{cite web}} template to cite a web page:
which displays inline in the running text of the article as:
and displays under References as:
If you've already entered one or more bare urls to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations; try the reFill tool, which can resolve some bare references semi-automatically. Once again, thanks for adding references to articles, and to avoid future link rot, please consider supplementing your bare URLs—creating full, inline citations with title, author, date, publisher, etc. More information can be found at Wikipedia:Inline citations. Thank you. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 18:00, 23 April 2023 (UTC) Derek JeterPlease stop your disruptive editing.
If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. Your reverting of my changes on Derek Jeter is wrong. Stolen bases are a stat included if it is a large part, or otherwise notable amount. 358 stolen bases is as notable as it gets. For reference please check out Mookie Betts who has even less stolen bases, but still a significant number and it is a big part of his play-style. Batgirl-Awsomeness (talk) 04:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Sounds good. I'll refrain from visiting the General. With all that you do, I figured he may get to sports sooner or later. This was wrestler Stan Stasiak with Canada being added... A user has made this Template:Boston Red Sox who have pitched a no-hitter. I want to delete it as there already a template for no-hitters - this one: Template:Lists of no-hitters by franchise - and, hence, makes this one redundant. Also there is no such template for any other MLB team AND there is a page with a list of every no-hitter: List of Major League Baseball no-hitters. Can you help out? Edit: I now see the person has made one for each team. I still don't see the point of templates specific to non-perfect game no-hitters, though, and would prefer they be removed for the same reasons listed above. -- Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:22, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

The Maxx Crosby revert, was that for certain criteria? I ask because there was a reference and dozens of players have it listed first in the lead after date of birth. (I'm guessing Crosby must have been a take on Ted Hendricks and the Stork). Instead of me changing caps and putting nicknames in quotes, I should really find out something about the rules. Trust me, just ask Bagumba, I've annoyed people over looking for a 'leg to stand on' when someone eventually comes asking me why. Any help is appreciated. In recent months, there have been efforts to draftify en masse sport substubs that do not comply with this requirement. Accordingly, we have begun a campaign to improve American football biographies that could be targeted in a similar RfC. This list identifies some of the articles that are the most vulnerable based on the new guidelines. Approximately 42 of the listed articles are ones that you created between 2008 and 2019. E.g., Mike Barber, Ken Brown, Wendell Cason, Oliver Davis, Jim Files, Lawrence Gaines, Rory Graves, etc. The list includes articles I created as well, and it is not intended as criticism of you or anyone else, as such stubs were permitted prior to the change in policy. Instead, the purpose is to encourage each of us to clean up these stubs so as to avoid draftification or deletion. I am hoping that you will revisit these articles to add the required SIGCOV. Thanks, Cbl62 (talk) 00:03, 28 July 2023 (UTC) "stop adding preseason nonsense"Excuse me, why do you keep deleting information I'm imputing about the NFL player Jack Golden and calling it "preseason nonsense"? It's an amusing moment that happened in the NFL, and just because it was in a preseason game doesn't mean it didn't happen. It's sourced and verified, and that's the only criteria necessary. There are plenty of player pages that include descriptions of moments from preseason games; why is this apparently so contentious that you want to delete it? I see you've done it before, and I don't understand why. 98.114.182.116 (talk) 11:34, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

For example, in Hank Greenberg, he's in the "Sportspeople from Beverly Hills, California" category where he was never associated with sports but went to retire - I added him to the "People from Beverly Hills, California" category because he retired and eventually died there, by the way - but not from Greenwich Village or the Bronx, where he began to play sports in the first place. So the question is when is the Sportsperson category used and what is the criteria? It's used infrequently as far as I can see; it's ususally specified to the athlete's sport. -- Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:28, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

ParXivalRPT (talk) 20:52, 24 September 2023 (UTC) Zach VigilIs Wikipedia not a place that shares details on moments in an NFL player's career? Personally, I'd like to know what happened to Vigil - if the Redskins cut him, or, just as an example, if he became a free agent. Maybe the middle parts of my edit weren't necessary, but I think it's worth mentioning, at the least, that he only had special teams plays and wasn't on defense. That at least might explain why he's no longer an NFL player.

free agent/formersorry i took so long to reply. I never check my talk page. From my understanding and discussion with multiple other users it was changed from 1 year inactive to 2. Inactive meaning not on a team or no “serious interest”/workouts. So in the case of Kaepernick, Dareus, Yeldon, and Strong, these players all may not have been on a roster within the last 2 years, but they’ve all had workouts with teams in the last 2 years. Sam HowellWe meet again. I'm really not trying to step on anyone's toes, but there is more than one Wikipedia page of an NFL player who has a game-for-game analysis of each season they played in. Why are you specifically targeting the ones I edit? If it's not necessary to detail a few games at a time, let alone most games of an entire season, then go to those other pages and delete those entries as well.

DraftificationsHello, Yankees10, Please consider using a tool like User:Evad37/MoveToDraft when you draftify articles. One thing that it does is inform content creators that they now can find their articles in Draft space which is an important step in the process. If you don't want to use this tool, please post a message yourself on the article creator's talk page informing them of the draftification. This tool will also maintain a Draftify log which many editors find helpful. You might also consider archiving your talk page which is even longer than mine! I just did some archiving the other day and it makes the page much more manageable for editors wanting to talk with you. And it also makes it easier for you to find older conversations. Thank you.
