Apropos of nothingOnly a few minutes ago I was reading something or other on /. and randomly noticed your name because of your low UID. And now I'm about to sign the flagged revisions straw poll and there you are again! It really is a small world. (Even smaller - you were born one year and one day before me.) :) Cheers, — Hex (❝?!❞) 23:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Brand new and confused.Hi, I'm brand new to Wikipedia and still rather confused. I am using "Wikipedia; The Missing Manual" for basic guidance, as well as looking at articles. I am attempting to expand a stub on Philip Frohman, architect of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. I have drafted the article and am working on formatting it for Wikipedia. I have a half-dozen sources, mostly books, including one that I use extensively. I think the formatting of the footnotes is going to look awkward. I have created (I think) a personal sandbox on my user page to work on this. Would it be possible to ask you to review it after I have done my formatting and solicit your suggestions as to what options there are to make the footnoting better? I would appreciate it. If you respond and don't hear back from me, it's only because I can't figure out where to go to get your response. My user name is tomaterols. I am adding the four tildes, as requested, which appears to also give you my contact information Thank you. Tomaterols (talk) 20:12, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks so much for the prompt response and offer of help!I just wanted to let you know I got the message. I spent most of yesterday working on Wiki and things are beginning to make some sense. I have read some of the materials you suggested, but will make sure I have read the others. Sometimes the information seems to get very complicated pretty fast. I'm glad to hear your review found I was starting on the right track. I still need to add another paragraph that I somehow lost yesterday. Once I've gone over it and gotten it as good as I can, I'll definitely ask for your review and further suggestions. Thanks again. Tomaterols (talk) 15:48, 3 April 2009 (UTC) Back again.I've looked over the materials you listed on my talk page as well as some other things in both Wikipedia and the book. I have moved my article to a new subpage called drafts, as I want to use the sandbox to try out some templates. I think the article is ready for you to review. My only concern (you may well have others) is the footnotes. I think it looks awkward having a nearly complete alphabet attached to my principal reference. The style I really like is footnote 1 in the Abraham Lincoln biography, where you just get directed to the author/date/page in "References" and then get directed to the full information under "Bibliography." But I haven't figured out how to create that yet, and I question whether a separate bibliography section is really needed when there are so few books cited. If you would take a look at the draft I would appreciate it. Please recall there is already a stub with the author's name and one or two sentences of information. Thanks. (where did they put that tilde thing?) Tomaterols (talk) 15:28, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks!I really appreciate the information and encouragement. I am just about ready to move it into the stub. I will, however, look over the templates you suggested first and fiddle around with it a bit more. I do understand that the initial expansion of a stub need not be a "finished" product (to the extent any wiki article is finished) but as my first substantive edit, I want to do the best job possible. Once I add this material to a stub I will see if I can follow the steps in the Wiki stub article to remove its stub status. Thanks again. In the (unlikely) situation you think I may be of any help, feel free to ask me.--Tomaterols (talk) 16:00, 5 April 2009 (UTC) Wow...You deleted my page on Erie Brewing Company within seconds of posting it. I was entering biography of the company and has significance to breweries in Pennsylvania but was deleted so fast I could not enter the data. I would like the information back so continue to edit the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjm5283 (talk • contribs) 20:34, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
ReviewsThere is this kind of big gray hole about notability versus sourcing around all subjects on Wikipedia, not just software. Linux.com is a good reliable source. Linux.com doesn't make a notability claim though. My favorite analogy is New York hot dog carts. There are hundreds and most have several reviews in the alt-weekly papers. If we started accepting restaurant reviews for the purpose of notability, we would have hundred of articles about hot dog carts. Common sense tells us that is the wrong outcome. That is kind of where we are with software articles right now, there is no written and accepted minimum notability standard for software articles, but we have hundreds of article with a list of features (most of which are not unique) and a link to the authors homepage. As geeky people who use software, we kind of take it for granted. But really, the non-default media player, for the non-default shell, of a less-popular Linux distro, for Linux, which itself only has 1% desktop share - it becomes diminishing returns to find real world notability claims for this stuff. Even if we use this stuff every day, the rest of the world is ignoring it. Miami33139 (talk) 21:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Ultima7-fov-exult.png)Thanks for uploading File:Ultima7-fov-exult.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media). If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Some have decided it should be eliminated entirely, with some information merged over elsewhere, but most lost forever. The same is being done for Avatar_(Ultima) and The_Companions_of_the_Avatar. In addition, one Ultima topic is up for deletion at the AFD. Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Worlds_of_Ultima Please share your opinions to form consensus. Dream Focus 16:55, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
How would you feel about creating a WikiProject for Ultima?Since you state on your user page you are interested in the Ultima articles, and have contributed to them, how would you feel about creating WikiProject Ultima? That will help all Ultima fans keep track of what's going with the articles, and discuss whatever needs to be done. Dream Focus 17:41, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership. All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:
Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you. Travis RobinsonLooking at recreating a page that you deleted back in 2007, just wondering if I could get hold of the original material with a view to incorporating it into the new article. Many thanks in anticipation.Lando09 (talk) 18:38, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Starship TroopersI reverted your edit here. What game are you talking about? I don't remember him being credited in any of them, despite the similarities between the two universes. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:19, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
