Your Miasolé deletion

Well, apologies if the deletion seemed a bit harsh; we just generally delete all similarly created articles about companies that don't have any claims of notability. Generally speaking, if you want to add a biography, article about a company or web page, you should mention the claims of fame as early as you can. We get a lot of articles about companies and thus we have to have certain standards. Maybe you did have plans to add the claims to fame to the article; however, in many more cases, these articles are simply left to languish. And as for copyright infringement, as far as I could tell, you only rewrote one sentence - generally we try to delete all material that is copied from other sites and that is easy to replace with non-infringing material. That said, copyright problems weren't exactly severe in this case.
In any case, please remember that this deletion was mostly prevention against letting seemingly non-notable corporations languish among the articles. Feel free to rewrite and recreate the article if you feel it satisfies the notability criteria as described in WP:CORP. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 09:03, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pseudoscience discretionary sanctions

Hi! As somebody who commented on a January proposal to place all articles related to homeopathy on article probation, I would greatly appreciate your input on a new proposal to help combat disruption that would scrap the probation and implement discretionary sanctions. I apologize for any intrusion, but this is to my knowledge the first time sanctions of this nature have been attempted to be enforced by the community, so I feel that a wide range of opinions is necessary. I noticed that you tagged WP:SALT and related pages as being superseded by newer WikiMedia functions. I hate to ask, but is there any way you could point me to some more resources about these functions? There is some documentation of the page creation protection in Wikipedia:Protection policy#Creation protection.

Anyway, the functionality is rather simple and doesn't really need that extensive documentation anyway - the idea is that you just go in the "edit" page of a page that doesn't exist, and hit "Protect".

It'll look like this in the log:

Sure - feel free to recreate the article if there really are lots of sources. Short articles that don't have a reasonable amount of details on why the subject is notable may get deleted; it's generally recommended to draft the article to have at least some extensive details when posting it. Please assist with speedy deletion

Dear sir,

I am writing to you because I came across a problem with creating a wikipedia article. Recently I wrote two articles: "ReaSoft Converter" and "PDF Printer ReaSoft". Both of the articles have been speedy deleted, because "they seem to be blatant advertising ". However, I tried to dispute that fact with the editor on the articles talk pages, but he/she didn't reply or whatever. I believe that those two articles don't promote or advertise that products, I reviewed them several times and excluded all the facts that may be treated as advertising. They are both of informative kind, not promotive. However, while searching Wikipedia I saw several articles which may seem akin to those that I tried to post. (this one, for example - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinePrint) Please assist me with solving this problem.

What happened to WWWWolf the Perlbot?

Rewriting pages

Another user and I have been discussing rewriting two articles. Synaptic plasticity and Neural facilitation. Not sure who to ask, but you and I had a conversation a while back about another article, so I'm turning to you. First, what is the protocol for a complete overhaul (see the talk page for synaptic plasticity). Second, I would like to rename the article Neural facilitation as Short term synaptic plasticity. How do I do that? Or, should I just make a new article and then put a "talk" note on both asking for a merge?

Honorific titles in popular music

Servpro

You recently deleted Servpro per Wikipedia:CSD#A7, and while it is correct to say that the article did not assert notability, Servpro is actually a notable company in the United States, I believe. I know, for example, that I have seen their television ads occasionally (in a few areas) and have heard of some Servpro projects. Please see a Google News search results page.

The problem, of course, is that no one (yet) has been inspired enough to want to expand the article. However, perhaps it should not have been deleted as even the one-sentence introduction may help someone figure out quickly what it is.

(Will crosspost to user's talk page) Yeah, well, that's the way it goes; the articles should stand alone in explaining their notability. The only thing that possibly asserted notability in the article was the claim that the company was "large", and that really doesn't tell much without exact statements and sources saying what really makes the company "large". Simply put, WP community found out long ago that one-sentence article about notable company can be indistinguishable from an one-sentence article about a non-notable company, so we'd terribly appreciate the second sentence if that isn't too much to ask, thank you for asking =) As a general rule, CSD deletions are without prejudice, so feel free to recreate the article right away (doesn't seem like anything important was deleted anyway) - it definitely looks like it would stand there if only its notability would be explained right from the beginning. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 12:58, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just finished adding 2 contributions but they were deleted?

I just spent the last few hours editing a page about me (Aaron Hall) and then about my company (Weddzilla.com) and now the pages are gone? Weddzilla.com was marked for speedy deletion - but i put the hangon tag on it - but it is still gone??

Can you help me recover these pages as I spent a lot time getting them together. Please help! If there was something stated incorrectly and not in the proper format I would like to fix it and resubmit it properly - but i didnt save the text before it was deleted!!

I was reading the WP:USERFY guideline. I was hoping you might be able to offer me some guidance. The guideline says that articles should not be kept indefinitely in the user space. But I'm also 100% sure that most users would object if you said "okay, time is up, it's time to let the article go." I know you might not be able to give an exact number, but where do we draw the line between someone who is keeping an article around because they're still sore about an AFD or merge, and someone who is genuinely working on an article and knows how to restore it? I figured since you are willing to provide copies of deleted pages, you might be able to answer this question.

The answer is, quite firmly, "it depends". Like with many other Wikipedia guidelines, there's no hard limits on what is appropriate and inappropriate - everything has to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Usually, I instruct people to mark userspace copies of deleted content for speedy deletion themselves when they are done with them. But usually, if something that has been untouched for a long time - from several months to several years, even - you can usually safely assume that the user in question has copied the content away, if they ever need it. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 09:19, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Templates for Archive sites

I noticed that you say you can give help with templates, and there is a URL template for material found via the Wayback Machine (WP:WBM).

In Australia, the National Library of Australia (NLA) has an archive at Pandora, see: http://www.pandora.nla.gov.au/

Yesterday I updated a couple of links to a Pandora archive, replacing dead links in a couple of articles. I was wondering whether some thought could be given to creating an NLA template?

The form of the NLA URL is:

http://pandora.nla.gov.au/pan/39154/20040506-0000/www.chifley.org.au/publications/kntf.html

and there is an alternative form for the same URL, i.e.:

http://pandora.nla.gov.au/pan/39154/20040506-0000/www.chifley.org.au/publications/indexf833.html?publicationID=8

I don't know why there are two forms, but I'd appreciate your advice on:

1. Whether you think the proposal is a good idea, and 2. If it is a good idea, whether we should approach the NLA for advice on the two forms of the URL.

Apologies if this is under consideration elsewhere. Please point me in that direction :-)

Usually, the extenal link templates take the unique part of the URL and automatically format the link (e.g. {{moby game|id=/wii/wii-sports|name=''Wii Sports''}} → Wii Sports at MobyGames). It's usually based on observation on what sort of links the sites in question use. But here, based on your example, we have two URLs that are pretty much the same but have crucial differences... what I'm envisioning would be something like {{pandora |id=39154/20040506-0000 |page1=www.chifley.org.au/publications/kntf.html |page2=www.chifley.org.au/publications/indexf833.html?publicationID=8}}. I'm a little bit confused, sorry... because as far as I can tell the two documents you mention aren't the same. Perhaps we need more research on this. If the site really recommends you to have separate URLs for the same document (which is funny because the two documents aren't the same, as far as I can tell), then it should probably be done this way, but if not, perhaps one link is sufficient. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 09:51, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am developing an article on words borrowed by Tamil from Indo-Aryan languages. I am citing a standard authoritative lexicon from which I find the words that are borrowed before including them at Indo-Aryan loanwords in Tamil. There are a few people who seem to be intent in damaging the article by adding "cite" tags, "disputed" and "dubious" tags for the article and threatening to delete it within 24 hours.

Could you please help?

I can't find the information on the page. the combination "Alt + Print + B" is not mentioned. Not even in this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SysRq
