RFA nomination request

Hello! I saw your name at WP:REQUESTNOM, and I would appreciate if you would take a look at my edits and tell me if you think I am ready for RFA or not. I have been a wikipedia editor for five years, and while my edit count is low (~5,000), I think my contributions have been significant - 2 GAs, over 100 articles created, around 1500 new pages patrolled, and also lots of categorizing, referencing, GA reviews, and so forth. Recently I have noticed a persistent backlog at CAT:CSD and I would like to help reduce it, so I am looking into becoming an admin. Thanks, --Cerebellum (talk) 01:48, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry I couldn't respond for so long. Will look into this and respond by email. Kind regards. Wifione Message 05:34, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just came across work of the vandal-fighter "User:Jim1138" today and don't see him on the Active Administrator list. Seems like someone who might be able to use the power tools... best, —Tim //// Carrite (talk) 18:13, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE March drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (talk), Stfg (talk), andDank (talk)

Yes, I need to educate myself substantially more before I become an administrator. I am slowly working through the WP:ARL. Though, given my short attention span, I may have reached the height of my career. Thanks for the message. CheersJim1138 (talk) 10:35, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School

Based on the comments made in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School, could you please indefinitely fully protect St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School as it was before you deleted it? Otherwise, the attack/hoax content will just continue resurfacing. Could you also please delete St. Eugene's Catholic Elementary School (note the possessive s) and recreate it as a protected redirect, for the same reason that the original article was deleted? Thanks. —KuyaBriBriTalk 13:53, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks for the note. Kind regards. Wifione Message 17:23, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you took care of the issue with the possessive page using revdel. I'm completely okay with that, but could you please do the same to [1] and[2] as well? Thanks. —KuyaBriBriTalk 18:51, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thanks again. Wifione Message 05:03, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Adminship?

Thanks for your kind words. I have no idea where you have come across me on the project, we don't seem to overlap much in areas covered! While I am honoured by your consideration, I don't think adminship would suit me at the moment: the vast majority of my editing is in article expansion/creation, and I only tend to stray into administrative areas occasionally, so I'm not sure how much use the tools would really be to me? Thank you again, Harriastalk 14:05, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, with as outstanding an editing background as the one you have, it'll not be required that you really indulge in administration throughout. For example, prepared DYK hook sets are placed in queues by administrators, and your involvement there would complement both your interest and the project's. That's just one example. I'll again request you to reconsider your decision, more for the project's benefit. And oh, anyone interested in cricket would sometime or the other come across you. Wifione Message 14:15, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've just spent the last hour reading through the RfA guidelines and advice, and flicking through some recent RfAs, both successful and unsuccessful. I've had a look around at what I do on the site, where I'm active, and where I might like to be more active. After this consideration, I have decided that I will accept your nomination: but first I'd like to give you a brief idea of my answers to each of the three initial questions in the AfD so that you might form more of an idea about whether you wish to nominate me.
  1. On the whole I would continue to add to Wikipedia primarily as a content editor: creating and expanding articles and working towards Good and Featured status. As part of this, I spend time at WP:DYK, and would (as you suggested) be able to transfer prepared hook sets into the queue, something there have been some lapses and close calls with recently. Beyond that I envision that it would primarily be "as I come across it" adminning: within my area of primary areas of editing, things that I come across that need admin intervention. Beyond that I would always be willing to get involved in something when requested by a User.
  2. In my opinion my best contributions are my articles, both new and expansions. Primarily cricket based, but with dalliances into a variety of different places at times. I am most proud of my only FA, Herbie Hewett, but am also proud of creating articles that I don't particularly have a desire to move onto Good or Featured status such as Juan Martínez de Recalde, second-in-command of the Spanish Armada.
  3. I've had very few conflicts with other editors: I'm a pretty chilled out sort of person, so I tend not to get into such situations. One case I do recall was when I got a bit snappy with User:Djln here. I disagreed with what he'd done, but I shouldn't have left the message I did. Generally, if something does irritate me on Wikipedia, I'll take a break from my computer for a bit, and then revisit it later when I'll be able to make a more rational decision.

I should also note that with regard to the timings of a potential nomination, I'm not going to be able to be online next weekend much at all. Regards, Harrias talk 16:01, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind reconsideration and the efforts to answer the questions. If it's alright with you, I'll prefer continuing further discussions over email. Do please expect an email from me in the next 24 hours. Kind regards. Wifione Message 17:11, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Hi Tim

Hey Wifione, thank you for your message. I have thought a few times about running for adminship, but I'm not sure I have enough experience writing articles to pass. Believe it or not, I actually have more fun with the technical stuff than with article-creation and maintenance. However, if you don't think that would be an issue, than I'd love to try an RfA. Thanks again, Tim1357 talk20:24, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am the author of the wikipedia page. I believe the following links establish significant independent coverage: http://www.tallahassee.com/article/20120222/SPORTS/202220332/Four-Tallahassee-fighters-get-ready-MMA-event-Atlanta Television http://www.wctv.tv/insidethegame/headlines/38167309.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9Fo84P1tCY

If i worked them into the citation of the article, can i create the article again? Please reconsider. Patrick Donahue — Preceding unsigned comment added byThecrow1313 (talkcontribs) 23:05, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Patrick hi. Yes you can create the article again provided you confirm that you've read up on the following policies and guidelines pages that I'm linking below:
WP:BLP; policy on why we consider articles on living persons very carefully
WP:Notability; WP:Notability (people); WP:Notability (sports); guidelines on what can and cannot be included on Wikipedia
WP:Verifiability; policy on what kind of sources qualify for proving notability
WP:Reliable sources; guideline explaining helpful examples of sources that qualify on our verifiability policy.
WP:NPOV; policy on why articles should be written with a neutral point of view.

I liked the wctv source. The Tallahassee source[3] is iffy, with just passing references. The youtube source is not acceptable for proving notability as it is a primary source. It can be used later in external linking. Write back to me for any additional help. Wifione Message09:04, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FYI

Someone you recently gave rollbacker rights to just did this [4]. We might want to keep an eye out on this one. Dave (talk) 14:32, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Dave. I see no problems in the edit. What might have caught your eye? Best. Wifione Message 15:00, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Two earthquakes spaced 2 years apart briefly caused a highway literally on the other side of the world (quite literally, almost a full 12 time zones apart) to magically jump about 450 miles (720 km) to the south and to the other side of the Grand Canyon?. This would be no different than me saying that during those two earthquakes the M6 Motorway was briefly moved to France, or during those two earthquakes Japan briefly had a land connection to the Philippines. This was blatant and absurd vandalism.
    • I'll admit that maybe it was 2AM where this poster was from and they were really tired, and had it happened during more normal hours they would have caught that this was obvious and absurd vandalism. And in that sense maybe I overreacted. However, for a tool that demands knowing legitimate edits from obvious vandalism, this was a miss. Dave (talk) 15:18, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. Good you caught it. Let's give the him a lease, shall we. On the other side, he didn't use the rollback, so there's no question of castigating him for using or not using the rollback tool. In all, well caught, chapter closed. Thanks for the note. A six month full protection for this? Is there something that I'm not seeing here? I get flak when I put full protection on an article for days, and a six month long one seems unprecedented.—Kww(talk) 12:21, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AfD closure

Hi there, thanks for this difficult and considered closure. FWIW I was a Keep !voter but I didn't much like some of the argumentation made on that side - especially given that the subject of the article was reading it as it developed! I am in fact in touch with him via his Facebook account and been trying to advise him on ways forward. I'm glad you mentioned the Foundation as a port of appeal, I know Jimbo has also been taking an interest. I'll carry on trying to demonstrate that not everyone at WP is a heartless bastard and I think your closure statement will be of some small comfort to this chap as well. Best wishes, Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 10:58, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
