User talk:WickerGuy/Archive5Stanley KubrickThank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to an article may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. Please note that we take very seriously our criteria on non-free image uploads and users who repeatedly upload or misuse non-free images may be blocked from editing. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media). If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien that purportedly spurred each man to create their respective masterpieces, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings? I had heard various iterations of this from different sources over the years and recently found this article on the topic: http://dir.salon.com/books/feature/2003/12/03/tolkien_lewis/index.html Thanks, Lansharked (talk) 02:05, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
I won't try to delete that category or really do anything with it at all, but I don't really see the need to categorize people based on their hobbies. Category:Famous amateur bridge players, Famous amateur poker players, Category:Famous amateur billiards players, Category:Famous amateur basketball players (include Barak Obama), Category:Famous amateur saxophone players (include Bill Clinton), Category:Famous knitters, .... Although lists and categories are not mutually exclusive, this is the sort of thing that I think should be only a list and not a category. Quale (talk) 04:44, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. May 2011Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, you are reminded not to attack other editors, as you did on Talk:2001: A Space Odyssey (film). Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. You are welcome to rephrase your comment as a civil criticism of the article. Calling someone psychotic is simply not acceptable. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:53, 11 May 2011 (UTC) Another award!

For instance, we can't expect the reader to know that Lolita is one of the most controversial novels out there. Once you know it, it looks obvious. But the article should bot be written for those who already know about it. Think out of the box. And mind WP:3RR. Respect, --damiens.rf 06:40, 8 June 2011 (UTC) KubrickHello, thanks for commenting on my talk page. Please be civil and refer to me with my proper username. I would appreciate it very much. It is my belief that removal of images that may not suit wiki policy is detrimental to articles. It serves little purpose when images can be fixed or brought to standard. I have not adopted the page so no work after the review was attempted. The Seller's images on the Kubrick page will keep it from GA listing due to over weight of the use. Again, it's a matter of this being the Kubrick biography and not the article on Kubrick's work. A separate page could go into detail that the biography would limit. Copyright and Fair use are topics that scare the bajeesus out of editors. They fear their favorite images being deleted. Simply going through the basics of image policy can keep this from happening. However...context is everything I read through the section and did not see the prose mention it, so I certainly apologize if I missed it.--Amadscientist (talk) 01:27, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Pathsofglory3.jpgThanks for uploading File:Pathsofglory3.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 01:23, 25 June 2011 (UTC) |
