I restored the deadlink I removed. As far as POV, I would say terms like "Indeed" (not in quotes), or "well known", rather than just "known", depending on the circumstances. Stuff like that. This is the diff between my first edit and the current version. Aside from the above re POV, a lot of text was simply moved or merged in a way I thought had a better flow and were more interrelated. The Allman Brothers discography

Hi can we discuss the edits of The Allman Brothers discography please I know that it was previously decided to have the page the way it is but that was 7 years ago and I think the page needs changing, I know that the band are a band known for live albums as it states on the page but if you take Jimi Hendrix for example he has released over twice as many live albums as studio albums yet they are all listed in their own section and I think it is in he best interest of the page and wiki in general to have them the same. If you calculate the studio albums and live albums they haven't released that many more live albums than studio albums (not included live instant albums) 12 studio albums and 15 live albums. Accessdates

Hey, can you explain why removing 'accessdates' from citations is necessary? I include the access date in all my web citations, is that not the policy? I'm sure I am missing something, but please point me in the direction of the reasoning for this, so I can understand when and when not to use |accessdates= in citations. Thanks. Accessdates are only required for web pages that don't have clear publication dates associated with them. For example, an organization's webpage that lists the members of its board of directors or the history of its development typically won't have a date on it, so you need to include an accessdate to indicate when the information was current as of. News sources, on the other hand, such as the New York Times or Washington Post or CNN or BBC News, always have publication dates associated with them. Accessdates aren't required for these, nor are they forbidden - it's sort of left to the discretion of the primary authors of an article. My view is that they are visually cluttering (two dates to parse instead of one) without adding any value to readers, while also driving up article load time. Some editors say they help in resolving deadlinks, but I've rarely found them of benefit in doing that. So I've gotten articles to FA and GA status with this minimal use of them. Other editors have different perspectives on this and still use accessdates heavily. If there's one thing you can say about Wikipedia citing styles, it's that there's no universal approach that everyone uses ... Wasted Time R (talk) 15:48, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Wasted Time R; Your recent edits on Sonia Sotomayor were posted yesterday. Presently, there are at least three new books on the Roberts court which have come out this year and last year. It seemed that this would be a good opportunity to bring the page up to peer review upgrade status. This is the plan and perhaps you and others you may know would like to join in the upgrade effort. Please feel free to re-post this edit on the Talk page at Sotomayor if you think it helpful to invite others to this upgrade process. Regarding your two items for your two edits, you first brought up the "next twenty years or more issue" in the Lead section. This material was actually sourced to the book by Marcia Coyle from last year with the cite pages I included as a footnote for verification. Second item was the parenthetical comment on "first Latin justice" which has been debated in the press. My deference has been to the major Latin organizations which have asked those interested to discount the Cardozo reports as anecdotal, largely because Cardozo did not seem to either make or support the claim himself.

The solution I suggest for both is, for the first one, to include the part of the Coyle sourced comment dealing with her age which identified her as among the three youngest members of the court. This seems relevant to the issue of experience which is normally discussed in such articles. Second, to incorporate the parenthetical text of 'first Latin justice" into the narrative of the section along with sourcing the identification of the Cardozo comment as anecdotal by major Latin organizations. This would enhance the narrative quality of the section as well. If you have any interest in participating in the upgrade process, or know of anyone else who could join the enhancement process, then let me know and I can share the sources and publishers that I am relying upon for the upgrade preparation. My efforts to bring in the material from the three new books dealing with Sotomayor are almost complete. The "missing" section on her Supreme Court cases was left out at the last GA review since her history on that court was too short back then. Now it has the missing section, along with about thirty added new edits, and possibly you might like to join to co-nominate for featured article peer review. Thanks for your note and my appreciation for your updates to the article. First, that must have been a busy morning for you. The chronological sequence of Sebelius was separated (from Wheaton College) and I'll date it to make the sequence clear. In the section just before it, stating the self-identified religious affiliation of each justice is generally not considered religious interpretation, nor was it intended to be that (NOR). The majority opinion in the mainstream press has made it a topic of dialogue that SCOTUS has a six-person Roman Catholic majority for the first time in its history. It seemed important to indicate somewhere on the page that although Sotomayor self-identifies herself as Roman Catholic (Infobox) that she is nonetheless a part of the liberal bloc of the Court and not with the other five. The alternate wording indicating this I can try to post later today for everyone to review. In terms of other further edits, that is about all of it for the 3 recent books on the Roberts Court enhancing the Sotomayor page. Its now 10% more informative, with the missing section on Notable rulings on SCOTUS now posted and in presentable shape following your edits. If it looks remotely close to nomination for FAC then perhaps you could consider co-nominating since two are needed for this. She would be the first woman on the Supreme Court at top peer review status. (Also, I am not the author you refer to of The Secrets and Alchemy from the University of Chicago Press.) Cheers. Hi Wasted Time R, These url updates are interesting, and still it is an option to rely on the cites alone without url since there is no reason to suspect they are not valid. Otherwise its in slow motion to update the url's manually. What about leaving the cites and dropping the unlinked url's to expedite? Separately, I tried to put the Sotomayor Hobby Lobby edit on the Barack Obama page under Health care with consensus of 4 editors but a lone editor is reverting against consensus. The bit about it first going through an Italian translation I took from the Robert Michels article, not a source. Thank you for your effort and and thoughtful response, which is genuinely appreciated and welcomed.

Philosophically, you indirectly raise the issue of what an encyclopedia is, and what a project like Wikipedia should be, by critiquing the level of detail that is appropriate to this project.

I admit to some concern about how to preserve access to the detailed facts of history that support the generalizations of this (and relatedly, any typical) article, in a project like this.

I know you have (amazingly, with astonishing and life-sapping persistence) attended to articles in such a way that you alternatively could have made a living from the effort, by converting that knowledge into book-length biography, book-length analyses, or long-form journal articles published by mainstream or academic press. I don't necessarily intend to engage you on the philosophical topic, unless you're interested and willing, but there is some kind of opportunity to think about what long-form wiki-like entity would support long-form topics.

Well, thanks for the kind words, but in actuality I don't do this as much as I used to. As for longer-form wiki-like entities, a bunch of them exist for entertainment topics where there's no such thing as too much detail (Memory Alpha, Wookieepedia, etc), but I don't know of any equivalent for political topics. I have a stupid question, as I am new to FAC discussions and article writing. I am a little embarrassed to ask this but...do I share in raising the article to FA or is that just the nominator of the FAC?--Mark Miller (talk) 14:55, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Depends on the context. For competitions, it depends on the rules; to take one example, WP:WikiCup/Scoring says "This does not mean that you have to be the primary author, though it is preferable. Merely copyediting or wikifying an article does not constitute 'significant work', but if you are one name on a joint nomination, you may claim points." I've never done competitions so I don't know how it works out in practice. For non-competition work, FA and GA don't have automated user talk page credits, but DYK does. My practice for DYK nominations I'm doing is to add on any other registered users who made significant content additions, even if it's just one edit. For just noting on your own user page what you've done, that's up to you. On my user page I note separately those I've been leader editor of, #2 editor of, or made some significant contribution towards. I guess I could also name some that I shaped the contents of significantly via comments during FAC. You can put whatever you want really. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:51, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
With Mitt Romney, I had some input on the FAC and made some edits to the article but you reverted and you and another editor worked out what to add back. I only state that I have contributed to the article and only a slight amount of input and just mention it is FA now.
