Erik van Dillen

First and foremost, the article before the deletion was in an incredibly poor state - and the only relevant course of action was nuking and starting it again. Secondly, you recreated it as an unreferenced BLP, which is a big no-no. Third, when you did recreate it, you left in a whole bunch of promotional fluff, which I've removed. I've also evaluated some of the claims, and can verify that he beat 4 of these 6 big-name players - but the other two, there is no evidence he ever beat them, in fact, the evidence I found suggested he lost to those players. Now, I'm willing to work with you on this article - but you should note that I am very anti-promotional fluff, and my tennis knowledge is limited. In future, make sure your article is backed up by sources, which it clearly wasn't upon recreation (it had external links, but those aren't enough). Walkovers in women's tennis

Thanks for your comment on my wikipedia user page the other day. What you said supported my effort to correct mistakes in tennis player Grand Slam Performance timelines. The way that the WTA treats walkovers became more clear to me last month when user Fyunck(click) wrote on my "User talk" page. That discussion gravitated to the Tennis Project talk page. It might be productive for you to add your opinion to that page. And/or, to see the discussion user Fyunck(click) and I had (under "How walkovers are counted in women's tennis") at talk. Hi, I noticed that on several recent edits like e.g. Ilva Trophy you are using tennisforum.com as a reference. Please keep in mind that internet forums are not considered a reliable source per WP:USERGENERATED and these changes therefore also need a non-forum reliable source as a reference. There is nothing wrong with using tennisforum.com as a double-check, do that myself frequently, but they cannot be the sole source of any content or content change. --Wolbo (talk) 11:26, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have a little more faith with tennisforum.com as a source. It's a weak source. but most of the logistical content is taken right from books and guides that are available nowhere else. There are experts like Rollo that eyeball the content uploads. You can't use it for BLP info, certainly, but for draws and scores tennisforum.com research is actually more reliable than the ATP or the WTA. Another thing. The site name is tennisforum.com but that doesn't mean everything in it is a forum. What I am talking about is the moderated massive databases it contains at Blast From The Past. Nicole Thyssen

I noticed a whole mess of seemingly improper name changes to articles linking to Nicole Thyssen. Why all the changes? Did she suddenly change her name in English that I didn't see? The WTA, ITF and FED Cup still have it Nicole Thyssen. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:24, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Her name is Thijssen, not Thyssen (whatever WTA/ITF may say; but you may be aware that they have their own, very peculiar rules of spelling names). Dutch is one of several languages where the English Wikipedia copies the original name spelling.
To be more precise: the most accurate spelling is Thijssen. The letter ij is the one-but-last letter in the Dutch alphabet, between x and z. Old typewriters actually had a key for the letter ij. Since computer keyboards have taken over, this letter is nowadays simulated by typing i and j. In handwriting, we first write a letter form which looks like y (but rounder), then place the two dots above it, like the Germans write an Umlaut (such as ä, ö, ü). Many text processors (including the one in Firefox, where I am typing right now) support a form of Umlaut over the y, by hitting the " first as a 'dead key' followed by the y – on the computer this looks like ÿ. WTA and ITF always omit diacritics (as you may know), but en-wiki still writes the original Julia Görges, don't you (not Gorges or Goerges). WTA and ITF apparently considered Ms Thijssens handwritten name as a y with Umlaut, and as a standard procedure they omitted the Umlaut, leaving only the y (just like with Marlene Weingärtner where they write Weingartner, and Anne-Gaëlle Sidot where they write Anne-Gaelle). En-wiki (like most other wiki's) does not follow them in that diacritics-removal habit. As a consequence: not Thyssen but either Thijssen or Thijssen (make your choice).

Actually, what Wikipedia does is follow sources, especially what the person in question uses. From what I can tell she now works for Bjorn Borg Industries. If that's true, she absolutely spells it Thyssen. Also the ITF spells her name the way she tells them to spell it. She fills it out in a registration form. The ITF doesn't use diacritics, but it certainly allows "ij" if she wanted it. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:05, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
