User group for Military Historians

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Kowloon Walled City in SL

I am not a frequent contributor to wikipedia, so forgive my ignorance of how this all works, but I am not sure what the objection to the mention of the Second Life Sim of the Kowloon Walled City was. If there is mention of this sim elsewhere, I haven't found it. My only desire is that awareness of this sim, which is what led me to learn more about the real Kowloon Walled City, seems something that belongs somewhere in Wikipedia.

Yes I see why you did it. I was new to Wiki, but now it has been made clear to me that self-advertisement is not allowed.

The other part of your question, why the revision, I have detailed on my talk page.

So I gather I must now wait for someone to note my work unprompted. Is this correct? The reason I ask is that the local paper gave my book an enthusiastic review. See http://camdennewjournal.com/article/winning-words

If I asked them, they would add in a line about my Revision. Is this acceptable?

If possible, it would be best if an academic journal reviewed your book, since those in academia (preferably in the fields of military history or Asian studies) are better equipped to analyse the merits of your work, and whether it represents a significant contribution to the study of Sun Tzu. Good news, but I am not clear what you mean by citation. Rather than put it in to page on Sun Tzu, and then have it taken out again, Can you tell me if the following is acceptable:

In 2018 The Revised Art of War by Keiran Proffer was published in the U.K. This is the first complete revision of Sun Tzu’s work in the English language. Reviewed in Camden New Journal [1] and Soldier Magazine[2].

Then under References: Proffer, Keiran (2018), The Revised Art of War, ISBN 978-1-9999642-0-7.

@Cath Writer: The claim about being the "first complete revision of Sun Tzu’s work in the English language" will need to be cited to a new source, since the two sources you provided don't make this claim. Does the book say this? Also, I cannot guarantee that your addition will not get taken out again, since this is Wikipedia after all, and you really shouldn't be using Wikipedia to promote your book anyway. No source - except my book - says that it is the first revision of Sun Tzu in English. Soldier Mag just says it is a "revision". The fact remains that it is the first such revision in English, which is why I think it should be on Wiki. Cath Writer (talk) 15:01, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Should we migrate the "Chinese animation" page under the "Donghua" namespace ?

Hi there, I've noticed there are already articles like "Manhua", "Banhua","Lianhuanhua" on the site. It would be neat if this article about Donghua is actually under the "Donghua" tag in the same naming style. Sorry if I've caused any trouble, since I'm just a newbie here. Vandalism to ancient dates

Hello, Underbar dk,

I've been spending hours reverting vandalism that a series of IP accounts (66.210.239.21-66.210.239.25) made over January and February. There are hundreds of edits primarily to year articles (like AD 82) and biographies of ancient figures (like Marcus Atius), where the editor altered the birth or death date by a year or so. This has resulted in several categories being deleted since it appeared that no one was born or died during certain years and the categories were empty when that was really not the case. Since not a lot of content was removed (often the edits are 0 bytes), these tiny edits are hard to detect and often were individually reverted by well-intentioned editors while the IP accounts' edit histories were not examined.

I'm writing to you because as I've been reverting this vandalism, I've seen your edits to these same types of articles. I'd like to ask you that if during your editing, you see this pattern of vandalism, if you could let me or another admin know so we can block these accounts. Needless to say that these edits took little time to do but involved much more time cleaning up. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 22:43, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Some birth dates for ancient Chinese biographies are especially hard to verify since East Asian age reckoning means many age calculations are off by one year, which makes detecting whether an edit is vandalism a bit more complicated. _dk (talk) 03:04, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). @Underbar dk: I did. If the article is to be neutral, please however include both Chinese and Western media sources. Otherwise, no mention is the best practice.

Where does it state that other Wikipedia articles can't be used as a guideline?

Underbar dk, can you please use the Talk page when updating articles? You undid my last revision because it used a reference derived from a Wikipedia article, but did not. I don't recall specific ban by Wikipedia against using other Wikipedia articles as a citation, can you show me where it states that in the Wikipedia guidelines. While you shouldn't use the same Wikipedia article itself as a reference or a related Wikipedia article, I don't see the problem with using an unrelated Wikipedia article for simple uncontested facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.111.162.10 (talk) 20:07, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Hong Kong 97

Hi there! Thanks for adding the original name of the mondo film to the article. I already believed that it was from the Death File series because of the distinctive narrator. But I can't read Japanese, so I couldn't figure it out.
