This would have been a problem.......be careful next time. Buggie111 (talk) 19:31, 23 October 2011 (UTC) Re: pmasters and conflict of interestHi, I'm writing because you posted re conflict of interest and deletion on my talk page on 21/oct and I was wondering if I could ask you for some clarification on this. I am a published author. In that area you could call me a professional. My published works are all well-reviewed and I like to get paid for my books. However, I also run my own wiki where I publish extensive, good-quality, well-researched and oft-cited articles for free. I don't have advertising on my website, except to list my own books. Recently, as I was doing some research using Wikipedia, I noticed that some of the Wikipedia articles on topics I know well were sometimes much less extensive and complete than my own. I thought to add links to my own articles to the tail-end reference area of the Wikipedia pages, but these were promptly removed by other editors. In the past I have attempted to revise and correct Wikipedia articles---including one which was mostly speculation and popular myth---and these corrections have also been promptly deleted. As a result I am extremely reluctant to spend time adding to or editing Wikipedia articles themselves due to past experience of hours of work just being chopped. I have read Wikipedia guidelines on conflict of interest, but it seems I am missing something. If I do believe that something I have written usefully extends a topic, how can I mention that or include that in the discussion without mentioning who I am or where the article is located? Thanks for your time, Peter Pmasters (talk) 20:52, 24 October 2011 (UTC) pmasters replyHello, Thanks for the detailed reply. Shortly after I wrote that bio page on myself I realised that I shouldn't have done it. I hadn't really thought it through after one of my readers contacted me and said that while she could find info on other authors on Wikipedia, she couldn't find info on me. This was shortly after one of my major successes was published. I have since been hoping that someone would delete that page because until that happens no one else is likely to legitimately do so, and I haven't wanted to get involved myself in the process 'cos that would seem only to compound the problem. I hunted up the "edit request" template you mentioned and followed and read various links on COI. I think I have a better understanding of the process involved. On the weekend I'll spend a bit more time on this and see what I can do. Thanks again for your time. I appreciate it, Peter Pmasters (talk) 20:27, 25 October 2011 (UTC) GOCE drive newsletter
Sent on behalf of the Guild of Copy Editors using AWB on 02:50, 29 October 2011 (UTC) Disambiguation helpHello, True Pagan Warrior. I'm curious about this edit. You changed an internal link to Register (surname) to a redlink to Register (surname) (disambiguation). Register (surname) is a human-name disambiguation. Were you intending to create a link with (disambiguation) clearly spelled out in its name? If that is the case, you'll need to create that page as a redirect. It is my understanding that (surname) pages are already acceptable as a DAB-link, but I could be wrong. Happy editing, Cnilep (talk) 13:08, 1 November 2011 (UTC) PortalsYou might be interested in this RFC I started regarding the Portal space. Hello, In the debate about the Jerry Sandusky book, you mentioned Lee Harvey Oswald as someone not notable until November 22, 1963. Oswald defected to the Soviet Union in 1959 and received extensive coverage on the front page of many newspapers including follow-up stories. He also received national coverage in 1962 when he returned to the U.S. He received coverage in New Orleans in the summer of 1963 as an activist for the Fair Play for Cuba Committee. So, I think he was notable. Also, he had attempted to assassinate Edwin Walker that spring, but had not yet been caught for that crime. I get your point but you might want to pick a better example.
