Mr Boris

I remember blocking him this am, he was the last of a list of editors of a junk article, whom I assumed to be sockpuppets of one person. I may have got it wrong, and I can't remember the article, so unblock if you wish, jimfbleak 18:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've been holding down the fort against the vandals for the last few hours while I've been away from the computer. Thank you very much for your help with this article, as well as for all the other good work you do! BRMo 02:14, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Punk Boi

I am willing to help. I think riana_dzasta would be a good person to help as well as she has already shown an interest in trying to help Punk Boi. Unfortunately, so far he has been unresponsive to people who post on his talk page. Sarah Ewart 19:02, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tried the "ignore it and it might go away" approach with this editor. It failed of course :) Leave him blocked. He might enjoy his Christmas break a little more with less (wiki)conflict in his life :) -- Longhair\talk 21:33, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen the unblock request at User_talk:Punk Boi 8. My gut feeling... Let it slide. I'm supportive of unblocking if he agrees to take on a mentor and edit article and talk namespaces only for now. Blocks are not meant to be punitive, only preventative, and he does mean well. What do you think? I'll keep my eyes open where I can. -- Longhair\talk 01:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. A definite way forward is needed here. I don't mean to unblock and let him go rampant all over again, not at all. Certainly, a commitment from him to stop the nonsense is needed here. Keep in mind he's young (I think about 13, but I may be wrong, I have seen an image he uploaded of himself time back and am only guessing). Remembering back when I was a teen, it wasn't as easy as it is now to identify frustrations. Keep conversing, he may realise what we're getting at yet... :) Let him know I'll help out again if he agrees to "LISTEN" this time. I've ignored him for a month or two now and that may have sparked him up a little. -- Longhair\talk 02:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Strike throughed because I DID LISTEN last time. -- Punk Boi 8 08:20, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly younger than that (evidence available off-wiki); please see my comments below the barnstar. Regards, Newyorkbrad 02:05, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agreeing with Brad here. Possibly younger. I've found my own off-wiki evidence and correct the above age estimate by taking off 2 years. The real name issue is also a very real problem considering his age. -- Longhair\talk 02:17, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
(responding here rather than both your talk pages)
Totally agree, I am hoping to build some trust first and take it from there. I just proposed some "next steps". I am totally pleased with his unblock request. Any advice would be appreciated during the process. Perhaps we should move the further discussion to User:Trödel/Mentoring? --Trödel 02:23, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good luck. Let me know if you want any help or support from yet another former "victim". Apart from doubtful spelling, Punk Boi's contributions to article space have generally been fine, unlike some other young editors. --Scott Davis Talk 07:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strike throughed for simular reason as Longhair. -- Punk Boi 8 08:20, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't edit others' comments, please. Trodel, please take note of what Punk Boi has done here, per WP:VAND and modifying others' comments. – Chacor 11:48, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can I please get confirmation of exactly what User:Punk Boi 8 agreed to before being unblocked? My understanding as per his talk page was that he'd agreed to edit only article-space and talk-space until further notice? His user page states he's agreed to a voluntary probation from edting articles in the Wikipedia namespace, and a commitment from him to only edit Article and Talk pages, which is clearly not the case after looking over his recent contributions. -- Longhair\talk 08:06, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My side of this is that these edits have very good reasons behind them.

User Talk:Billnoblet - My grandfather, why can't I?

Template:Gold Coast opentask - For Wikiproject reasons.

Template:WPGoldCoast - As Above

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Truth of Santa - Tried out new AFD tool

Wikipedia:WikiProject Awards - Name Change

Wikipedia:WikiProject Victoria - Wikiproject I think we need.

User talk:Longhair - Bah Hmubug if you dont like this

Template:Australia opentask - Requesting article

Wikipedia:Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight - Nominating

Image:Sydney NYE 2005-1-.jpg - Licicencing

Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom - (Addressed) & story written on ArbCom.

These are all made in good faith.

Also, Tr%C3%B6d said this on my talk page

"Just keep making changes like you did to Coles Group recently and we'll take things one step at a time. I got your list by email and am preparing an answer. I suggest that editing the main article pages and their talk pages is the best place to spend your time for now. It worries me a little that the 2nd edit you would make after the lifting of the block would be to a Wikipedia page; however, if all you want is some assurance that the effort will be worthwhile; then yes it is worthwhile. After you follow through with the mentoring plan and develop the writing skills you need, many options will be open to you including proposing an article to Ral315 for publication in the Signpost."

Thats in User Talk:Punk Boi 8/Archive5#Signpost.

In reply to my editing of comments, I did this because I thought this was in breach of WP:CHILD and WP:NPA.

I apolagize.

Punk Boi blocked again

FYI, I've blocked Punk Boi today for further edits in the Wikipedia namespace despite your recent advice. -- Longhair\talk 04:01, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm letting things idle for now. Things are getting quite firey at his talk page between him and I (again!) -- Longhair\talk 04:13, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. To be honest, I couldn't care less for the talk page being left intact, but it's a tactic used early on in his wiki career to 'erase history' (he ended up archiving once warnings came in thick and fast). Somehow I don't think we've seen the end of it yet. I admire your efforts at mentoring, I admire his far less :( -- Longhair\talk 04:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Commented out redlinks that may be identifying on his main userpage - I'll leave it to you to decide what to do further on that front. Your efforts in trying to rehabilitate him are admirable, even if they ultimately don't succeed. Orderinchaos78 12:51, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am back from holidays. Placed copy at User Talk:Punk Boi 8/Mentoring. Plz show me the mentoring plan ASAP. -- Punk Boi 8 01:49, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Punk Boi sockpuppets?

I thought I would mention that there are several Users who have joined Wikipedia recently who are giving each other and themselves multiple awards:

User:Happyman_oz_123 has given 1 award to User:Hpfan9374
User:Punk Boi 8 has given 1 award to User:Hpfan9374
User:Noobiemacnoss1 has given 3 awards to User:Hpfan9374
User:Hpfan9374 has given 2 awards to User:Hpfan9374

In fact, it looks like Noobiemacnoss1's and Happyman_oz_123's only edits have been their awards to Hpfan9374 (and their own User pages).

As an additional FYI, Hpfan9374 has given nearly 30 awards just today. Hpfan9374's User page looks nearly the same as Punk Boi 8's.

Just an FYI. Suspiciously yours, Madman 21:43, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am not sockpuppeting. I based my userpage on theirs. -- Punk Boi 8 20:24, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uh... WP:AN?

Uh... wasn't Punk Boi asked to avoid project namespace under terms of his mentoring? I cannot imagine comments to WP:AN like this one help much. – Chacor 15:04, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TheronJ and Guinnog jointly award you this Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar, in honour of the message you left at User_talk:Punk Boi 8#Suggestions. Your action was exemplary, even inspirational. Keep up the good work. I didn't like to put it onto your user page directly, but you may of course do that if you want. Best wishes, --Guinnog 22:00, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Going the extra mile to help another user is always appreciated. TheronJ and Guinnog 22:00, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I concur that it was very kind of you to offer to help this user out. I suppose that if someone blocked me for a month and sought consensus to ban me indefinitely, I would ask someone else to be my mentor. :) But hopefully things will work out with you guiding him toward making useful contributions, hopefully mostly in mainspace. If I can be of any help in this process, please let me know.

It also occurs to me that if this is indeed a younger editor, there may be a WP:CHILD issue to be addressed as it appears (per a Google search) that his username is probably his real-world full name. I suggest that he be guided either to WP:CHU or to start over with a new account, partly for privacy reasons and partly because years from now, he's not going to want to be noted mostly for mistakes he may have made on Wikipedia. Regards, Newyorkbrad 23:25, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Trödel, thanks for the message. This is the IP address you send the message to earlier concerning the LDS article, but I actually bothered to log in this time. Thanks for the links - my HTML is incredibly rusty. Just one question: were my edits a tad presumptuous? (Assuming that were referring to the deletion of the dead links and what I viewed as a "bad source".) From now on I'll do as you suggested and form a consensus first in the talk page. Thanks for the encouragement!Primalscreamtherapy 15:30, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Punk Boi 2

His links at the top of his user page link to stuff of a non-existant user. People have posted at the talk page he links, even though he does not "receive" the messages as it's a non-existant user. We can't leave the messages there, though, since there's no such real user "Punk Boi1006"... – Chacor 02:11, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know abou that - working with him to clean up his talk/user page is on my agenda - though not a priority right now :) - Let me know if you see questionable behavior so I can talk to him about it prior to it growing in ferocity. Thx - --Trödel 02:14, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I am adding a note now. -- Punk Boi 8 23:29, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

You have put yourself as interested in helping out at WikiProject on user warnings. We are now at a stage where we are creating the new templates and are wondering if you are still interested? If so please visit the overview page and choose a warning type you wish to work on. There is a base template available here, which you can copy and use to get you started. Have a look through the redirects and see what old templates are affected and incorporate them into the the new system. Anyway, any questions please don't hesitate to give me a shout. Orphaned fair use image

Thanks for uploading Image:LDS Temple-Sacramento.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. cohesion 17:46, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bell Sympatico IPs

No problems. It's been such a pain over the last few months. Guinnog and I have kept a record of a few of the IPs he's used here and they jump around on the ranges, so i don't think even a range block would help very much. New Page

I made a page for the mentoring - User:Punk Boi 8/Mentoring. I also moved the status to User:Punk Boi 8/Mentoring/Status.

If you could keep that maintained that would be great. -- Punk Boi 8 02:56, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As this user page describes him as being under a mentorship agreement with you, I felt it prudent to advise you that he has requested a username change. I am performing the change, as it appears to be valid, but I wanted to be sure you were informed as his mentor. Essjay (Talk) 05:33, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Trödel, I noticed that you self-reverted a (Punk Boi) page move. You probably noticed that I moved the mentoring page for him as I saw it still on his userpage in his old name and I thought, if we're going for privacy (it is fantastic he has done that, btw), it would be good to get it moved. But after doing so, I noticed there are still heaps of NN links and mentions of his name. So it was actually a pretty pointless and useless thing to do. :) I was just trying to help him...but I don't want to interfere with your program or anything. If you prefer it moved back, please revert me. I hope the mentoring is all going well. And I hope you and your family have a very happy Christmas. European Americans

Haha, I only wanted to let you know I'd used that phrase because I ran across some web page claiming the Fancher party was mostly aculturated Cherokee. Not so far-fetched but, after checking it out, wholly, utterly wrong. So I threw that in. I agree: Without this context being mentioned it's been mis-interpreted as PC codswallop or whatever and understandably so. Gwen Gale 17:15, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Role of administrator

I have recently been nominated to become an administrator. Before I decide whether or not to accept, I asked Visorstuff what is involved in being an administrator. He has given me his advice and also suggested that I ask you. What is your experience of being an administrator? I'm especially interested in the additional time that being an administrator takes. Thanks for taking the time to respond. You can answer here or on my user page. Val42 18:20, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All im asking you to do is give me a link to an an RfA where that argument was either brought up, or sued as an argument against the admin in question. I'm not mixing this up with other articles. I'm simply trying to figure out where you got this argument from. You tell me it has been your experience, then show me where you got that from. It's a simple request, and your inability to do so means that you are lying about it being a requirement from the community as a whole, or that you just made this argument up today. If it's a personal reservation you have come up with, it is perfectly reasonable. But to say that standard applies to the community as a whole without proving so is just bad wikipedia ettiquete.TheGreenFaerae 22:36, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't making a personal attack. You had failed to provide proof for you point, and your refusal, at that point, to do so made me think you were lying. Now that you have proved it, I acknowledge this point, and You were right to make it. All i wanted was proof. thank you for providing said proof. But why did it take basically insulting you and making you pissed off to provide proof? We would have save a lot of time if you had simply given me proof when i asked you the first time.TheGreenFaerae 00:17, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. If my short edit history is going to be a problem for Val42 who si clearly more than qualified, then why don't you make a nomination instead?

Right now I am considering opposing Val42 because of your rudeness, and because you think that you need to be confrontational and provoke people to learn policy instead of reading the policies that you should have read before making the nomination. Do not communicate with me again. --Trödel 02:22, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a posting about the above incident on WP:ANI: [3]. Can you drop past and leave your take on the situation. (Remembering of course not to inflame the situation please :) ViridaeTalk 09:16, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stop your Vendetta

You have stepped over the line now. Your edits are not fair, they are nothing mroe than striking back against me. I am sorry that I accidentially insulted you, but that's no excuse for these actions. You are editing in bad faith, and are carrying out what can only be described as a vendetta against me. I am willing to apologize and wlak away, but stop trying to shove me out of Wikipedia. I don't want this fight. I never wanted a fight. What will it take for you to end this vendetta?TheGreenFaerae 05:06, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide one example of a bad faith edit I have made. No intent to shove you out of Wikipedia is intended - the more I interact with you the more sure I am that you are not familiar with our polcies, thus your edits deserve review. BTW, if you respond to this with more false accusations, I will block you for trollin - I am serious about this - if you do not intend to troll me - then use the talk page of the article for any edit I have made to challenge that edit. If you are correct, then other editors of the page will come to your defense. But you know my edits are reasonable and within policy - that is why you attack by pretending to be a victim --Trödel 05:16, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AMA

Can I please have some help on my AMA case I am running.-- Punk Boi 8 04:14, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Considering Punk Boi 8 isn't supposed to be editing outside of article and talk namespaces as per his mentoring program, he's somehow managed to register as an AMA advocate, and now arrives here to ask how the role is performed. I'm of the opinion mentoring of this user has all but failed. Sigh. -- Longhair\talk 04:37, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not true. I were an AMA and a MedCab before I were mentored. As for the 2nd part of longhairs statement. I am considering a Wikiquette alert. -- Punk Boi 8 20:32, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that 1) you do not have the experience to be respected as either a mediator or an advocate and 2) you never followed through with any of those commitments prior to the mentoring. I've made my position clear on this - please focus on the article pages! --Trödel 21:48, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Trödel. I've been somewhat lenient myself with his editing, however some edits of late (as you've already seen) indicate that without guidance, we'll be going around the old frustrating blocks before too long again. I didn't want to step in before you'd taken a look at the situation but I'm happy with the way you've handled it. Here's to a new beginning, third time lucky eh :) -- Longhair\talk 21:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So, you'll be the one taking on this case? Thank you so much! If you ask a question on the case page should I answer there or here on your talk page? I'm a little confused. futurebird 14:51, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what you're sorry for or the relevance this has to my comment re your edits over the last week. This shows that you edit the main space about 20% of the time, and the Wikipedia space about 27% of the time. Unfortunately, the percentage of edits to the Wikipedia space has been increasing and was about 50% last week, and since this comment instructing you to not edit the Wikipedia namespace at all, you edited the Wikipedia namespace on 6 of 26 (23%) edits, and most of these edits could be viewed as being disruptive. And 5 of these edits were after you posted saying you are "sorry" --Trödel 15:31, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Typo" note on "Golden Plates" Edit Page

Sorry the "Typo" wasn't clearer--I made two edits in a row.
