Proposed Merger of WWI Memorial Pages

It seems there is a consensus of three in the discussion of merging National World War I Museum and Memorial and National World War I Memorial. The near identical names alone are good enough for me. But I think the merge should go the other direction since the title of the former includes both the museum and the memorial. I've sketched out a plan to begin merging, but wanted to see if you would rather have this on your to-do list. I am new to Wiki editing but I'm sure I can do it. However, I am more than willing to continue discussions with you or anyone else before jumping right into it.

Also, I almost feel like the Memorial page should redirect to Liberty Memorial and not vice-versa as it currently is, thus solving the near-identical article names, and leave a smaller article on the memorial as its own page. There definitely are redundancies on the Memorial and M&M pages that could be eliminated on one or the other. What are your thoughts? RM2KX (talk) 21:12, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

I have closed the discussion(s), but still want to clarify with you since you originated the proposal: Are you OK with Liberty Memorial redirecting to National World War I Museum and Memorial, since that is the name the site is using now (as seen in its logo)? We are no longer discussing the merge itself, we are really only talking about the name of the article. Obviously the Liberty Memorial would get top attention on the newly merged page. Citation format for Brandon Todd

Hi, I noticed that you changed the citation format for this entry. Its now in the more standard inlince citatiion, but do you think that's better? I find it less easily readable or editable. It's not really whether you or I find it more readable or editable, as everyone's opinion is probably different. It's what the Manual of Style suggests: Generally speaking, a full citation for a news item would not appear in the "References" section unless a short citation (such as an APA-style citation format) were used in the main text. Books and longer journal articles, for example, could have a full citation appear once in the main text, with the {{rp|XXX}} code following (to indicate page number); alternatively, a book or longer journal article's full citation could appear in the "Bibliography" section, with a short citation in the main text (which may, or may not, be linked with code to the full citation). News media articles, especially those which are online, are far shorter and usually page numbers are included as courtesies to aid in location rather than because they are needed to locate information in the cited text. Thus, a news media article generally receives a full citation in the main text. While list-defined references, as you used them, are absolutely acceptable, there are some important drawbacks that worsen as the article becomes longer and more complex (which is likely with the Brandon Todd article; it's not very well-developed at the moment). It's not an either-or choice, admittedly, but mixing styles requires a lot more coding expertise and might discourage newbies from participating in the article. - Tim1965 (talk) 16:52, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the background, I didn't know all that. I'd say that the question about which is more user friendly is an open one. It's tough to put myself in the shoes of a first time user, but I think the List Defined References make it much easier to add new text. And since the reference still appears in abbreviated form, the reminder is still there that all text should be properly cited. Agreed that mixing styles makes things a lot more complicated and risks errors with citations being mentioned differently. Bangabandhu (talk) 18:45, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

I'm in GF, right now (Saturday), but leaving by noon tomorrow -- might be able to get something photographed -- got a bunch of shots of Tower Rock on the trip up. I want to get an updated shot of the Arvon Block, but may not get downtown before I go... maybe just update the request list? The request list is still current, because there've been no new images added. I wish someone could host a Wikithon at a high school or something and get some students or UGF people or a camera club interested in taking photos of Great Falls. Okay, now that I'm awake and not brain-dead: There is no NRHP listing in Cascade County or Great Falls for "Montana State Fairgrounds Racetrack". However, there is one for Montana ExpoPark, e.g., Montana State Fairgrounds, e.g., Northern Montana State Fairground Historic District. There was a county commissioner who wondered why we needed a circular track to run Quarter Horses, thinking they could just stop at the end and turn around or something... *headdesk*. I'm Confused

I'm a bit confused right now. I checked the backlog in recent changes for articles that don't have enough wikilinks and I came across this article: Magers and Quinn. I rewrote the sentences, added wikilinks and attempted to de-orphan the page by writing a short section at Bryant Building. However you have removed that information (and probably rightly so) because it turns out that the Bryant Building is not in Minneapolis (which is where the Magers Quinn article suggested that it was). I have had a look at the citation that you have indicated and agree that David Wondrich has determined that since the 1920s the Stinger has been a before-dinner drink.
