Think I've found a 1982 album for them: Darlene Remembers Duke-Jonathan Plays Fats. Have a Corinthian cover for it and also a Billboard review that indicates the album was good enough to be considered for the 1983 Grammys. This is how the "Jonathan and Darlene Edwards Talk!" interview came to be in Los Angeles Magazine in 1982--the issuing of the album. Previous information had their last recordings dealing with disco. You're being too kind, as I didn't do that much! Agree that the Grammy is best as I doubt many would connect with the Jonathan Edwards, Calvinist preacher, that Weston's act was named after. There is still enough info and refs for it here to think about Corinthian and/or Edwards article(s), BTW. Re: Duke & Fats, what about an e-mail to Corinthian for a list of the tracks? I think we should go for articles on both eventually if we can get enough information. I did think of using the Jonathan Edwards preacher fact, but thought that might be better for an article on Jonathan and Darlene Edwards themselves. I think emailing Corinthian is an excellent idea. Yeh, looks like this was the reviewer's thoughts more than anything. I've Googled this but without success. I'm sure it would have been noted if they'd been nominated for a second Grammy. Interestingly, there is an "interview" with Jonathan and Darlene in which it is mentioned that Weston got another award. I got the impression this was for chairing the Grammys or something like that. Jonathan and Darlene Edwards in Paris

The DYK has been queried by someone who found sources suggesting other awards for Jo Stafford. According to this source, she won the Downbeat magazine award for Top Singer of the Year in 1945, while this source says that "You Belong To me" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. As both are self-published titles I am dubious as to how accurate they are, although I find it surprising to think that she didn't receive greater recognition for her work. 1945 Down Beat AwardsNot until c. 1952, were there 2-one awarded by the critics and one by the readers. Prior to this, it was strictly a readers' poll and the award given. 1943 Down Beat Awards They hadn't yet made the distinction between those who were soloists and those with a band; that started in 1944. So she won the 1943 one while still with The Pied Pipers.

There's no indication that anyone with a song in the Grammy Hall of Fame got anything other than the honor. Though we are paywalled out of the entire article, here's what happened in 1998, when "You Belong to Me" was inducted there: 140 SONGS ENTER HALL OF FAME Published on February 23, 1998. SOURCE: The Hollywood Reporter. "The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences has added 140 recordings - from John Philip Sousa's 1897 rendition of Stars and Stripes Forever to Stevie Wonder's 1972 hit Superstition - to the Grammy Hall of Fame. ``The number of recordings in the Grammy Hall of Fame more than double this year - from 123 to 263," NARAS president and CEO Michael Greene said. ``The recording academy is moving to make the Grammy Hall of... 241 words, Rocky Mountain News (CO)" With that number of songs being added on an average each year since it was instituted in 1973, personally can't see all these people being awarded Grammys when this happened. Let's say Artist X won a grammy for Best Song of the Year. Artist X would receive the statuette for it in the year it was produced. Then, 25 + years later, the song Artist X sang is inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. I don't see Artist X getting a second statuette for that. When it comes to Grammys, every news story and book source I've seen has made much of Stafford's receiving only the one Grammy as Darlene Edwards. But what needs to be considered here also is that the awards didn't exist until 1958; the bulk of her recording career came before that. If we weigh it between the number of songs in the Grammy Hall of Fame and the fact that there is only one Song of the Year Grammy award given annually since 1958, all of those with songs in the Hall of Fame are/were not Grammy winners for them. Even if we weigh it against the number of songs inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998-140-and the thus far 53 Songs of the Year since the awards began, it's not likely those with Hall of Fame Songs received a Grammy award. That's great, thank you. To be honest I think the guy was just being pedantic as I didn't really find anything else apart from the books which made this claim. I see he's also modified the article to say the award is the only Grammy Stafford won (which he then contradicts with his argument if you include the induction of You Belong to Me into the Grammy Hall of Fame). Interestingly though, would it have been her performance or just the song itself that was entered into the Hall of Fame? Surely it's the composers who would get the credit? If not one could argue that The Duprees and several others who recorded the song won a Grammy in that case. :) I'm going to link to this from the nomination so anyone reading it can check this out as well. It was her 1952 performance of the song that went into the Grammy Hall of Fame. If we take a look at the "A"s there (listed by song title), we see that "America the Beautiful" is listed. It was the Ray Charles rendering of it that got it there. Same story re: "God Bless America"-Kate Smith's performance of it got it listed. And a surprise for "Amazing Grace"-not sung by Judy Collins, but by Aretha Franklin and James Cleveland, and also "Amazing Grace" by The Dixie Hummingbirds-two performances of the same song. There are a few instances of the same song done by different artists listed. If the song didn't win a Grammy in the year it was recorded, to me it sounds very contradictory that 25+ years later, it would be awarded one. One could just simply include the Song of the Year 25 years later then. Since there can only be one of those per year, there are plenty of them on the List that didn't get the statuette but are on the List.

Did find us some new material while working on this, though. Have a news story that says Les Paul opened a recording studio in his California garage ca. 1945. He had many famous people come there to record--Jo Stafford was one of them. :) We hope (talk) 16:24, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Re Jenna

Hi, Regarding the article on the name Jenna it previously had a website link that stated that the name means small bird which is why I changed it from heaven. It seems a bit misleading to have the definition of the name as heaven and then you click on the website and it tells you something different. Giving it another go

Thanks for your message! Will give it all another go. Before I get to working with Jo Stafford, et.al., have some other things that need to be done first. Need to work with the VetMed articles, as I have new refs for them, and to at least get started trying to re-do Red Skelton. Found a big copyvio there not long ago when I was looking for information about his George Appleby character. (JS was a guest on his show and portrayed George's wife, Georgia, for that episode. This is how I hit the copyvio.) Had promised to work on Skelton to try restoring information after the copyvios were removed. Pat Boone

I noticed my edit to the article wasn't the last, so I checked. One person, whose entire history of Wikipedia contributions has been to remove Patrick as his middle name, came back and did it again three years later, leaving no source. I didn't research who reverted the person the first time, but you reverted an IP whose one contribution was to do the same thing (probably the same person). I asked at one library I went to. Telling them I needed to know beyond a doubt didn't stop the person from calling up the Wikipedia article, which in this case is useless. Release dates

Need to take a further look for Fools Rush In, but Supper Club III will officially go on the market on Tuesday: Amazon pre-release orders-release 21 June 2011.

I need to get around to getting more online re: Jo and Paul. Had done the Skelton work and got a lot of free use images for the article. (Expanded Sid Grauman for DYK as a result of the photo finds. :) ) Walked into some information re: the caricature of Jo and Como now at the Supper Club article. While I knew there was a series of these done for NBC in 1947, you couldn't always find most to all of the caricatures. Stumbled on a site with most online, and checked--copyright not renewed. We had quite a few already here as non-free files. Changed them to non-renewal and added quite a few we didn't already have. Also got hold of a Supper Club promotional item that needed work and put it on the article; this one is from 1947 and shows the "division" of the shows re: Hollywood and New York.

Had put Diabetes in dogs up for GA-was suggested it be re-organized to med MOS, so withdrew the nom and am now trying to do that. Hope all's well with you! We hope (talk) 18:09, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

The eBay photo is one that NBC and Chesterfield sent out in 1946 with the 1946 "Supper Club" brochure we have on the article. (Last copy I'd seen of this had damage.)

Another surprise for you

While starting through the book, I wondered what Jo Stafford had to do with The Old Barn Dance, so I went to the article. Saw that she had appeared in it with her sisters when they were performing together. Next wondered if there were possibly any photos of the Stafford Sisters, so did a Google image search.

Want to run the copyright search again to be sure, but it looks like the copyright for Home & Hill Country Ballads was not renewed, which means that the photo of the Stafford Sisters on the cover would now be free use. In the interview, Jo talks about her sister, Christine's, romance with Nolan and admits to having a big crush on Roy Rogers, who founded the Sons of the Pioneers singing group with Nolan. Glad you like the cover! :-) Have seen some magazine back cover Chesterfield ads of Jo and Como with both dressed very glamorously. The problem was they were on eBay and you couldn't be certain which magazine it was, nor get a large enough photo of it to be able to determine if there was ever a copyright on the ad or not. This makes a difference in licensing, as there's one license for no copyright markings and another for copyrights that existed but weren't renewed.

As soon as I can finish with refs for another canine diabetes section I now have in the sandbox, I'll take another look at the Stafford Sisters photo from the music book and upload it if all turns out well with the non renewal. We can use it on Jo's article also, as we have no photos for her before she joined the Pied Pipers.  ;-) We hope (talk) 22:43, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

The rest of them were a washout for one reason or another. But think I have something else of interest. Have been trying to get a "legal" Red Ingle photo for some time now. Had hoped for one that wasn't "in costume", but this should work too. this site covered all the work you did with Jonathan and Darlene Edwards. Embedded on it are 2 YouTube videos-one of Jo singing alone and one where she becomes Cinderella G. Stump and does "Tim-Tay-Shun" with Ingle. Had seen the "Tim-Tay-Shun" one before and assumed it was from the 1960 Ford Startime episode, The Swingin', Singin' Years. But I couldn't be sure until I saw the video of Jo singing "The Gentleman Is A Dope". It's obvious both are done in the same studio and she's wearing the same dress for both numbers. The list of songs you see at the link include both of them.
Checked for copyright on title, Ford Motor Company, and National Broadcasting Company (NBC, where the show aired) for 1988--to see if there was a renewal of any copyrights that might be on the broadcast. Found none, so it looks like I can take the video grab for both Ingle alone and Jo and Ingle performing the song. I believe this was the last time they performed it; never was able to see any other photos of them doing the song--this was the only one. ;) We hope (talk) 20:48, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi there RetroGuy, I couldn't help but notice some of the problems you have encountered with IP User: 81.109.92.88. This dosen't come as a surprise to me what so ever as this specific user has returned under no more than three or four different IP accounts. His main traits are either incorrect infomation, bad spelling and grammar, poor sentence construction, unsourced material and just general nonsense. The main problem I realised with this individual is how many time you tell him and inform him that his edits are in some way wrong, he continues to force his material on to certain articles. He seems to cling to Television or Association Football articles, mainly Coach Trip and Grimsby Town F.C., although he hasn't touched the Grimsby article this time round. I have been on his trail for over a year and he has been pretty easy to spot because of the manor of his edits that are made daily on the same old articles.

All of his previous accounts have been blocked in some way or another, whether its been 1 month or 6, however he finds his way back on to Wikipedia every single time under a new IP address. Anyhow for your interest I thought I would list his former carnations and check his talk page's out, as I think it's similar to the problems you have been having.

A Donohoe

I can assure you that I am an authority on Amanda Donohoe's life. I know everything about her and I don't know who wrote the stuff on her wiki page..... but it is not in very good context.... or very useful information.... and there is missing facts.....

As for a contributor who calls themself 'Donohoefan', well, what a joke! I have been through their edits and my God, talk about 'I haven't got a clue' what I'm writing about!!

I thought the whole point of being able to edit was to update with helpful and useful information.... so that people who really want to know about Ms Donohoe can find out the most important facts. Obviously I was wrong!!

A Donohoe again

I can understand that, but I have known Amanda for twenty years and it just viles me that certain information is left out and facts of her life and career do not make that much sense. There used to be more information on this page about her a long time ago; including the well-known documented and 'self confessed' comments I added!

Why is there no photo of her anymore?

Amanda does not look at things like this herself, but I have told her about the context of this page and she laughs and says "well, they obviously don't know much about me darling"!! If I can not edit this page with correct information and up load a gorgeous picture of her, I really don't see the point of joining wiki in the first place!

I am not trying to be rude, it just annoys me that's all. I hate anyone getting things wrong about her. She once told me I am "one of the only women(apart from her sister)who could write her life story for her".

Challenging a DYK decision

Hi, I wish to challenge the decision of a user who has rejected a DYK I submitted after it had been earlier been accepted by other editors and added to the queue. (see here). The person involved did not have the courtesy to inform me of any problems, so I'm a little bit annoyed by it. Is there a way of challenging a decision like this? If there's a problem, and others agree, I'm certainly more than happy to put it right, but would like to have the chance to do so and resubmit. Thanks. TheRetroGuy (talk) 16:38, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

You are obviously a very accomplished editor, yet I do not know to what extent you have been following the intense scrutiny of the DYK process. Specifically, there are concerns that reviewers are not doing an adequate job of checking a number of issues, including copyright and close paraphrasing problems.

In light of that, it is understandable that DYK reviewers would be hyper-sensitive to possible issues of close paraphrasing, and err on the side of caution. When a reviewer looks at a source and the article and sees, for example:

The edit you linked to said in the edit summary "will post on article talk shortly", and a few minutes later that was done. As Sphilbrick says, there has been much concern about copyvios in DYK articles, see e.g. here and here, so it is not surprising that if a problem was suspected the article was pulled from the queue. Suggest you check out WP:Close paraphrasing and discuss on the article talk page, where Nikkimaria (talk) has raised the issue, or at WT:DYK. JohnCD (talk) 20:08, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi there TheRetroGuy, I am currently monitoring a new IP, 86.31.216.175 that I believe maybe our friend responsible for operating 81.109.92.88, I am lead to believe this is the same person based upon the type of articles he has been editing on, and the amount of edits made in such a short space of time on for example Coach Trip. By scanning through the history you can easily identify this guy's contributions, and although he seemingly hasn't embarked on any visible vandalism I thought I would bring this to your attention.

Stafford compilations

I think it would be a good idea to do a discography page for her. Something to Remember was AFD not so long ago--I self-deleted it but can easily get a track listing back if needed. I know we can't possibly keep all of the covers when they are transferred to a discography, but as the information is moved to the discography and orphaned, I'll just mark the files for deletion myself.

There are tons of Como compilations around and while I've tried to list the ones that seem to be really diffferent, such as the ones from the "Supper Club" transcripts, have tried not adding more Como compilations. Want to, though, in future, add his V-Disc album because again, these are AFRS transcripts from radio shows that were done in the 1940s. (You already have Jo's V-Disc album up with its own page.) Why I consider these types to be important enough to have their own separate articles is because that's literally all that exists of those radio shows are the transcripts that were taken for re-broadcast for the Armed Forces. Any other type of transcripts for the shows either never existed or are long gone. Anything on them was performed live as part of the original broadcast and if the songs happened to find their way into an album, they were very likely studio versions with different backing musicians and, to me, they're a "different take" on the song that happened once, on the air of the radio show. So they're sort of "old fashioned" versions of "live" albums. :-)

Would say that you need to go through all of her compilation albums and try to pick out the ones that really are unique for one reason or another and try keeping individual articles on those. You certainly have my permission to take whatever is there on any of the compilation pages I created for the discography. I have one of those "fussy" templates on the Como discography page which takes some work to get going correctly. If you want to do the same for Jo's and need help getting it to work correctly, I'll be glad to lend a hand. ;-) We hope (talk) 20:04, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Tomorrow I may try to work on one of my laptops that recently came back from factory repair. One of the warranty "fixes" that had to be done was to give me a brand new hard disk. I redid the Jo Stafford template, separating studio, compilation and Jonathan & Darlene Edwards albums. For the Edwardses, we are missing Sing Along With Jonathan & Darlene Edwards (can get a cover, but need to get hold of track listing), and Songs For Sheiks and Flappers. Can get a cover at Amazon and by zooming it, the track list is on the cover:

For some strange reason the "Sing Along" record was issued by RCA Victor and it's noted as a 1962 release. It could be that Columbia didn't want to issue it. This is the one Mitch Miller blamed for ending his Sing Along With Mitch television show in the US. Miller was very closely connected with Columbia. We'll get into that later as both Jo and Paul had some not so nice things to say about him when he worked with Jo (and others) there.

Just went over to eBay and I not only have a cover, I have a track listing:

Before anybody tells me off about fair use rationale for album covers, I know they're currently being used in two articles, but that's a temporary measure until I've completed the task. Eventually (by the end of this evening with luck and a fair wind) several individual articles will be redirects and others that aren't will only have brief mention in the main article without an image. Started putting in collapsible tables for the track listings, but will need to put it on hold for now. There seems to be some type of issue with the page and the server, as you need to fight to do any editing or even checking your edits on it. It was like this yesterday when I worked on it and is still a problem. Jo Stafford albums

What I discovered late last night was that many of these albums--studio and compilation--have ratings at AllMusic. Formerly, if the ratings from places like AllMusic were shown on the article, they were included in the album template. Not so long ago, they had a backlog drive that focused on changing these ratings from the album template into a template of their own. When this started, I changed all the Como ones that had AllMusic ratings, but I honestly didn't realize that Jo's albums didn't have any ratings on their articles. Kiss Me, Kate (Jo Stafford album).

So have started going through them and adding the ratings template with the AllMusic ratings and link. I saw there are quite a few compilation albums which have received either 4 out of 5 stars and in some cases 5 stars for the AllMusic reviews of them. What I'll do is to get all of those with ratings templated and then you may want to consider that some of the compilation albums are considered notable enough to go back to having their own articles on them, based on the AllMusic rating. We shouldn't have a big problem getting covers for any that may go back to being "stand-alone" articles, and it's easy enough to change any template-related links. But it might take me a bit to get all the templates on the compilation list as the page is still being difficult; when you save anything to it, the error message still comes up after that. I will have a "surprise" for you later re: a missing studio album cover that turned up at All Music. :-) We hope (talk) 18:58, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

If you start a conversation on the talk page, please let me know and I'll join in. My thought is that we have quite a few compilation albums which are rated at 4 stars or more and that they appear to be noteworthy enough to return to being listed separately by virtue of their ratings. Using a dating system such as "anything after 2000" doesn't work with this, as many of these were done post-2000. Good compilation albums are a great way for people who were born post WWII to get to know Jo Stafford and her way with music. If your folks weren't fans of hers and you didn't hear her music when you were growing up, going into one or more of the high-rated compilation albums should give you a clear picture of what she did and how she did it.
