Ecology

Hi TeaDrinker! Not to be personal, but it's been a while and I hope you're well. I thought I might point out that I've made some changes to Ecology (see here and also [[Ecology (disciplines)], and even created a Quantitative Ecology stub). But the big papa Ecology was in really terrible shape, and its a tricky subject to present fairly, and some feedback or second pair of eyes would be really helpful. I think I've finished the article on Martins Krumins and would like to move it into the main article space. Your offer to do this for me is appreciated, especially since my mind is kind of zonked with all the Wikipedia "hoops".

I don't think that an infobox is necessary because the article is cluttered enough.

In-line references? What exactly is that? Is it when certain words are linked to other sites? Also, I'll try to add links to and from other Wiki articles.

Hello Teadrinker!

It seems that someone wants to delete the Martins Krumins article again because of "lack of notability". A person can only be "notable" within a culture and if they get stranded between cultures and belong nowhere, then "notability" is not likely to happen.

When Martins Krumins came to the US he, and other artists, were "out of synch" with the culture. They didn't understand American society and had no means of "becoming notable". On the other hand, the culture (Latvia) in which they would have become notable no longer existed. The Soviets took over and established the "tractor style" and in any case because Martins had joined the Latvian regiment that was supported by the Allies (The White Army), he could not remain in Latvia when the communists had full power.

I think that the work itself is what establishes "notability".

In the case of Lucia Peka, which is similar, it is important to remember that her work was "in synch" with the culture of the U.S. and Canada because she was educated here. Martins Krumins was of a slightly older generation and was educated at the Latvian Art Academy and influenced by Vilhelms Puvitis... and entirely different aesthetic, a different "school of art". I came from Turkey. You deleted "Turkish Exonyms" as I saw. Why did you delete ? Did you bend the neck to the Greek lobby ? Please, you answer. You know Ottomans managed current South of Slovakia, Northeast of Slovenia, South of Ukraine and Russia, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Makedonia, Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, Algeria, Libya, Egpyt, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Eritrea, North of Ethiopia (Harar region), Sudan, North of Somalia, Djibuti, West of Oman, Quwait, Iraq, West of Iran, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Also Seljuks, who was predecessors of Ottomans, managed Iran, Syria, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Oman, Pakistan and Ghaznavids managed Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern India. These countries were part of Turkish World. Also relative sizeable Turks live in USA, United Kingdom and Germany. These are not counted as null. Please, you revise your decision. Barnsboro Hotel

I am curious why you have removed the copy for Barnsboro Hotel (now Barnsboro Inn) as it is officially listed the the National Registry, the original structure was built as a log cabin in 1720, was first licensed as a Tavern in 1776 (pretty significant year)and has been continually licensed as a Tavern ever since (except for Prohibition). Although I did not contribute to the copy and hadn't read it, your comments are insulting. I own this property. If you have questions or suggestions for improvement, I'm listening. Otherwise, please restore the page. I've had several "complaints" from readers objecting to your arbritary removal of copy you clearly don't understand. I just realised that the webpage for Cambridge Analog technologies was deleted, and I thought it best to send you a message. Cambridge Analog Technologies is primarily significant because of its contributions to field of semiconductors in general and circuit design in particular. This company has invented a (proven) revolutionary new method of designing analog circuits that are 10x lower than what is traditional. It has 30 patents worldwide, this company also received a NSF award for this work, the paper on this technology has also recd numerous other awards incld the best paper award @ ISSCC.

Sometimes certain organizations get intertwined with certain innovations that are so fundamentally disruptive that it becomes generally relevant for average folks but certainly those in the field.

These innovations will be detailed with this company with citations etc.

You do have other companies such as TSMC, ARM, Chipidea, MIPs. The last three companies are in the business of semiconductor Semiconductor IP business as well.

Wikipedia is an excellent source of relevant past and contemporary information; this page certainly is an excellent candidate for inclusion precisely because of its scientific contributions. While I may be seen as someone who has reason to be biased, I would not be providing this information did I feel this was not the case.

I hope this explains why we deemed it fit for inclusion in wikipedia. If you would like verification of its contributions, I would be happy to provide those to you.

I would ask that this page not be deleted; if it needs editing with further information, I would be happy to do so as appropriate.

You're are removing material without discussion. You are not suppose to delete material without discussing it first according to Wikipedia rules. You stated that your reason was it was non-notable. According to Wikipedia a topic can also be considered notable if it meets the criteria outlined in one of the more subject-specific guidelines: Academics, Books, Criminal acts, Films, Music, Numbers, Organizations & companies, People, and Web content. If a species is endangered and you kill it you are committing a crime. It is a Criminal Act and falls under Wikipedia's definition of notability.
Your next step should have been to discuss why you thought Wikipedas non-notable does not count as sufficent in this case but instead of following Wikipedia rules you deleted the posting again without discussion. You now are getting someone else involved when you have not even discussed it. If you look at the posting history you will see that Eliezq did not have a dicussion but in fact just continued to delete the material. I very much welcome your comments on the talk page there, if you are serious about reflecting current policy and completing the job on that page. Help Re: Locus Technologies

Thanks for your interest in Wikipedia. I did see your note in the hangon you placed at the top of the article on Locus Technologies. Wikipedia gets a large number of articles every day which seem to be attempts to advertise the company. They are written in positive, even glowing terms (they are "a leader in their field" or their products are "revolutionary"). Since Wikipedia is written with a neutral point of view this is a problem. Moreover they are often written by someone with a conflict of interest in the content, and frequently fail notability guidelines. If the company has not been featured in numerous, independent publications, or would require a complete rewrite to be acceptable, we generally delete the article (by the criteria for speedy deletion article rule 7 or general rule 11). I hope this helps clarify why your article was deleted, and of course if you have any questions, feel free to leave a note on the bottom of my talk page User talk:TeaDrinker. Thank you for the note. I am relatively new to Wikipedia and my intention is to provide facts about the company that I founded 11 years ago in Silicon Valley that focuses on environmental data management (plenty of independent articles exist about the company that meet all of the criteria listed above). Could you help me start this or new page from scratch?

I noticed that you have an interest in mathematical ecology, marine ecology, and statistics. These subjects are dear to me and very close to my interest in factual environmental data and information. We are bombarded by daily articles about GHG, water contamiantion etc., but rarely are press articles backed by verifiable, validated, and accurate hard core data (e.g. analytical chemistry data for groundwater contamiantion or air emissions). I don't care if I start article on my company or general article on "Environmental Data Management." If you do Google search on "Environmental data management" you will see what I mean.

Going the wrong way

I understand your frustration re WP:Paid, but you are entering an unintended trap that will wipe out your efforts. I know exactly what you are saying because I have read all the boring details in real time, but the RFC is fatally flawed because the editors involved are extremely capable and know exactly how to work and how to edit. There is no hint of breaching 3RR or any other guideline, and every change has a proper edit summary and extensive comments on talk. You will never convince third parties that anything bad is happening. What third parties will see is a polite, hard working editor who is being ganged up on by others who think a 1RR would turn the dispute their way. And, that editor is being harassed with questions about their personal circumstances. For better or for worse, Wikipedia has certain procedures, and if the RFC and its talk page continue much longer, third parties will conclude exactly the opposite of what you hope.

The solution is simple: Withdraw the RFC, or let it stagnate. Work on the alternative text which is clearly labeled as a proposed policy. In a couple of weeks, think about whether the proposal is ready to be put somewhere else. Sorry to provide unwanted advice like this, but I want a strong policy restricting "bad" paid editing, and it's never going to happen the way things are going. Followup to Mary E. Black Article Deletion

In March of this year, I created a new article on a weaver called Mary E. Black. My inexperience resulted in a misunderstanding regarding the origin of the content. The content was originally from a brochure created by my weaving group and then subsequently included on a website that our group helped create <http://www.gov.ns.ca/nsarm/virtual/black/biography.asp>. The editor who looked at my article discovered what they thought was plagiarism and removed the article. I was advised to obtain permission to use that content.

It has taken some time but I believe we have resolved the situation. The original brochure is now available on our group's web site <http://www.parl.ns.ca/ash/pdf/MEBbrochure.pdf> with a note - "1999-2009 Atlantic Spinners and Handweavers; Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document". In addition, the Archives website has added a note "This text is used with permission from the Atlantic Spinners and Handweavers — http://www.parl.ns.ca/ash/".

So my question is, have I resolved the issue sufficiently to be able to resubmit the article? And if so, how do I proceed? Thank you.Weaverfran (talk) 17:03, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Action T4 and Euthanasia -- POV pushing problems again

Hi TD, we have an editor — Mamalujo (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) — with a history of religion-centred edits to WP now POV-pushing on the above two pages. Would welcome your attention to this please. Problems are: (1) Euthanasia article does not need a long section on something that is not euthanasia, but murder (Action T4), and attempting to include it there is an attempt to denigrate euthanasia by (false) association, and (2) the Action T4 page has a section (partly composed by you, IIRC), that clearly distinguishes euthanasia from what the Nazis did, and he is trying to alter this by inserting the views of a euthanasia opponent (Ian Dowbiggin), while adding weasel words to the opinions of the existing experts there, if not deleting the opinions entirely. Involuntary euthanasia

Hi TD. My breakup of Euthanasia into Voluntary euthanasia and Involuntary euthanasia seems to have stopped some of the disruptive editing, but the non-English speaking anonymous IP editor who warred Action T4 a while ago is back and now repetitively editing (badly) the involuntary euthanasia page. As Ratel said in the definition of involuntary euthanasia it is refered to The Netherlands as the only country where involuntary euthanasia is allowed on new born infants, but also other forms of so called voluntary euthanasia. It is a fact that there, at The Netherlands: euthanasia hasn't be decriminalized nor legalized but it is illegal and defined in the Criminal Code as murder, although under certain conditions it is not punishable for the physician.[5]. Ratel is saying that my source allegedly does not back up what I'm saying and that he doesn't understand properly what I wrote and that I'm talking rubbish. But let read the source:

Liridon RPG

Listen, Im truly sorry that you seem to think that Liridon and this Kormada are alike. But if your not familiar with Beqanna and about a billion other rpg's there are alot that are similiar. I myself own my own rpg. It's based off of similar things from different rpg's including Liridon. So Im not to sure why you would go and ask for a speedy deletion of my page Liridon RPG considering I had just created it. The two sites are not the same. If Kormada allows free use of abilities that's not mine or the owners of Liridon's fault. Kormada does have a hell of a lot more rules than Liridon and I don't believe they've copied anything. I'd really like for you to explain further as to why you've done this.

One of your unquestioned talents is diplomatic understatement (though your forays into the vandalverse have surely opened your eyes to sights that have been spared from mere marine mammal stewards like myself, and it is possible that Narwhal is merely an "occasional target"). If I may provide an unsolicited datum for reference: in the span of thirty five days from Jan 5 to Feb 9, there were 84 edits to Narwhal, every last one of which was a vandalism or revert. Previous delete of A Knight in the Congo

  • Hi TeaDrinker,
I was the original author of the article on A Knight in the Congo. I see that the page was previously deleted due to G12 Unambiguous Copyright Infringement. Following the link to the infringed page, I certainly did not copy from there.
I read further up your talk page a discussion where pages can be restored. On that restoration, does the original history for the page show up? Could we then look to see who edited the page to the copyright infringing version? If so, I wouldn't mind an immediate redeletion upon finding this information (as the author of A Knight in the Congo was deleted for notability concerns).
I would like to watch the contributions of the contributor who made the bad edit to see if they are continuing to place bad content onto WP.

I agree that the final version before the delete was a clear copyright violation but I'm fairly certain that the original content was not close to a violation. What I'm really looking for is where the infringing edit came from. Is there anyway that administrators like yourself can review the history of a deleted page to see where the copyright infringement came from (since you seem to be hesitant to restore the page so we can revert to a previous version)? Can you then share the name of the user that contributed the infringing edit so that you and I can check into their edits further to make sure that they are not introducing copyright violations elsewhere? As I said before, due to notability concerns for the author of A Knight in the Congo, I'm not concerned with getting the content restored for the content; I'm interested in who made the bad edit.   • I think I see what has happened. Upon closer inspection of the "source" that you cited, I noticed that the block is ended with "[WP]." It seems that the author of that book, which was published in 2008, copied my original text verbatim or nearly verbatim and placed [WP] at the end to cite HIS source ... which was the A Knight in the Congo article. Can you tell me what the orignal creation date of the A Knight in the Congo was? Can you cross check that with the title page of the book you cited (note the copyright date and the paragraph which begins with "Passages attributed to Wikipedia)?   • Hi, TeaDrinker. Have you had a chance to look into my last comment? I'm sorry if my tone sounded harsh or rude at all, I'm told I come off that way sometimes but I never mean it. I spent several hours gleaning information from my copy of A Knight in the Congo for the article you deleted and for the article I wrote about the bibliographic author (deleted for lack of notability). I find plagiarism detestable and copyright infringement dangerous and it bothers me to have content that I diligently handcrafted, however short, marked as a copyright infringement. Since I discovered the probable source of the confusion about the original source of the content in question (my Wikipedia article being the original source), I'm most interested in two things: clearing my name of the copyright infringement accusation and getting the content restored (to my userspace, at the very least, where I can work with it to get past any notability concerns). You seem to have a reputation as a diligent guardian of Wikipedia, which I applaud; this time, however, I believe you made an understandable mistake (since the citation of "[WP]" in the book on google could be easily missed) and I would like for that mistake to be cleared for both of us. Feel free to respond here as I have temporarily added your talk page to my watch list for the purposes of this discussion. Hi, on 17:25, 11 July 2009 you deleted Michael Bostwick's profile because it had already been decided (on discussion) that the profile showed "no indication that it may meet guidelines for inclusion", given that Bostwick had never played in the Football League – undoubtedly the correct decision to have been made.. Any chance you could restore the article now given that the player in question has just signed a new two–year contract with Stevenage – a football team now plying their trade in League Two. Russell Pearce - Mountain Meadows Massacre history

TeaDrinker, Concerned with your edits of the MMM history on Russell Pearce's history. How can family history not be relevant? Surely you must agree that history tends to repeat itself - much the way it is now. The fact that Russell Pearce's family had a MAJOR incident with immigrants (easily verified)is somewhat of a pre-cursor to his current war on illegal immigration.
