Difficult Job

TeaDrinker...Thank you for introducing yourself. I have recently been doing some research that is broad in it's appeal, and a lot less mundane than many of my graduate studies, so I've decided to begin sharing that research on Wikipedia. My first observation as a relative newcomer to the editing function of Wikipedia, is that it's good to know that there are people available to help and to step in when things don't go so smoothly. My second observation, after looking at your talk page, is that the job of admin certainly requires one to be able to understand and deal with a wide variety of complex issues and subjects. The text says "unreferenced" even though I clearly referenced the material with relevant links to other Wikipedia pages. The submission was deleted by Seb az86556. Again, it appears that anything I post to this page is deleted without discussion (unless discussion means one brief word or two in the edit summaries on the history pages). UserPage Shows After Draft is Moved

Thank you for your response. It was very helpful. I created a new userpage and used it to draft a new article. However, when I moved the article to the mainspace, the userpage appeared to be published also. A search of the article name on Google shows User:Ohio Boy/The Intangibles of Leadership. It redirects to the article in the mainspace, but should the userpage version appear at all? Did I miss a step in the moving process?

Ha, so we're around the same wiki-age.  :) I didn't mean to sound like I thought you were a new editor, I just meant welcome to the insanity of the FNC RFC. I really do always approach the arguments from a policy/AGF perspective, but these guys make it really hard to keep that assumption up for long. Usually when I ask for help people think I'm just being overly dramatic... it's nice to see some other rational being stop by and realize it really is that bad. Not in a schadenfreude kind of way, but rather to see my thoughts validated through observing someone else going through it. These guys are True Believers -- no amount of policy, other editors' comments, or blunt facts can turn that ship (which always seems to be pointing starboard). Martyr's Shrine

Thanks for changing the redirect to a dab page. Regarding the name of the page, I propose changing it to Martyrs' Shrine (disambiguation), i.e. the grammatically correct form with (disambiguation) appended because we already have Martyrs' Shrine. The latter should be equipped with a hatnote linking to the dab page. Finally Martyr's Shrine should redirect to Martyrs' Shrine and be tagged with {{R from misspelling}}. I think this structure is the most logical, as two of the three choices on the dab page have names involving Martyrs'—I'm not sure what the Australian band intended. What's your opinion on this? Hi - I want to thank you for backing up what I interpreted to be wikipedia's policy on speedy deletion (A7) on Menage a Twang. I would like to know if you think the article I created was sub-par as a 'stub' - I generally try to create stubs for any subject which I think is notable, but don't know much about myself. I try to add enough to at least defend against A7, and hopefully enough for WP:MUSIC as well - and I like to allow people actually familiar with the subject to fill in the rest. In the past this has worked very well as far as I've seen, since a lot of people who know a lot about subjects are intimidated about creating articles, or don't know the right way to do it all the time. Any feedback you can offer would be appreciated - I seem to have angered the user I was discussing it with, as he seems to be going through pages I created and nominating some for deletion now[1][2]. I guess this is probably acceptable under wiki policy but it seems to be both kind of concerning for myself personally, and seems to be a waste of time for everyone involved with the discussions, if the user is doing it out of spite. I'm a little confused, as actually, I've been contributing (slowly) to wikipedia for about a year, yet this user who has (after using some sort-of insulting language on the discussion page for Menage a Twang) apparently nominated some of the articles I've just created for deletion (only after arguing with me and seeming to get angry) has only been on here a month. Is this common, for a user who is so new to act so familiar with wikipedia, and to claim to know so much more about wikipedia policy, and use tones of voice such as this? List of Outsourced episodes

Supertouch, I don't think you were, no; it's a bit debatable to call it 'promotional', it's more a case of WP:CRYSTAL - I don't see how we can have a list of episodes when only one has aired, and I can't see RS supporting even a list of the remainder. Supertouch, i think you were being overzealous. The show has not been cancelled (as of my writing this). The episodes exist whether broadcast or not. To write of them before broadcast would be a spoiler, which WP allows. If you have the press release and the EPK video(s) for an episode you can usually write a fairly comprehensive episode summary. When i found this particular list it needed some work. I also found there to be a battle over deleting it as promotional. It needed copy-editing and referencing. Thanks - Advice Appreciated

Thank you for the assistance with the "speedy delete" tag on my biographical page. I did indeed make the initial entry, based on my standard bio used for university concert programs and other professional activities, and have added to it and tried to keep it up-to-date.

I would like to be sure that the page is useful as a reference, and if you have any specific suggestions for its improvement, I would be grateful for your opinion. Meanwhile, I do occasionally contribute to other pages, and have written a few from scratch. I can't spare too much time for Wikipedia, but I do think it is a valuable resource, and I'd like to make what modest contributions I can.

List of Outsourced episodes

Hi there.

Regarding the speedy on that, that you removed and changed it to a redirect; I do understand, however (hehe, you knew there was a "however" coming there, right?!)...

The show does, indeed, exist. But, it has not yet aired, and there are no RS giving the episode names. Therefore, any such list is pre-emptive, WP:CRYSTAL. The list has been repeatedly created and CSD-tagged, and it is therefore a target for some somewhat creative original research.

With this in mind, would you mind reconsidering the CSD, please.

The redirect serves no useful purpose, and actually creates a loop, currently, from the show article infobox itself, ie Outsourced (TV series) infobox pointing to List of Outsourced episodes which redirects back to the show. Yes, that link could be removed, but that's not really the problem.

Simplest, delete it.

If not, we can move to PROD, AfD, etc; but I hope you'll understand what I've said, and we can avoid hassle. Many thanks.  Chzz  ►  14:52, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

For the record, i asked Chzz for an opinion on List of Outsourced episodes and Chzz' opinion and help was to request on my behalf that you delete the article. Thing is Chzz got my position on this 100% wrong. I never asked Chzz to get it deleted. I couldn't believe that there was a fight over CSDing an episode list as promotional and for that reason i brought it to Chzz' attention (for amusement purposes). Chzz then made the above request, apparently with the belief that it is what i wanted. There was no cause to delete it in the first place. It needed copy-editing and referencing. It actually sets a precedent that all episode lists are inherently promotional and need to be deleted - evidenced further by not including any information in the main article when you killed the list of episodes. Last i looked at this it was left alone. Fighting with Chzz about this had me do anything else. Another episode aired a few hours ago. I thought to give another go at it. Thanks for the information. The article list was probably premature to create, given that it was before the start of the show. However perhaps the more significant concern was that the episode summary was a copyright violation (although I think I labeled it a redirect deletion). The query i put to Chzz was how to i approach you with questioning your action (the redirect) and not offend you. The copyvio, i was in the process of re-writing it when Chzz gave me links to the request for deletion of the article. Rather a turn-off to fixing the problems; more like incentive to not bother. Part of not bothering was not keeping a copy of what was there and what i had written-but-not-saved. With the article being deleted it is also now outside of my scope as i don't do recreations of deleted content (tried twice, too contentious to be worth the time). Thing of this is the ratings for Outsourced are relatively fabulous (of the NBC Thursday it is only bettered by The Office; beats 30 Rock, Community, and The Apprentice) which means the show is not likely going to be cancelled any time soon. If Chzz hadn't requested deletion the copyvio would have been replaced within that hour. More than a week later two episodes have aired, two more are available to properly source, and the show is a hit for its broadcaster. I appreciate your position; if you want to recreate the article without the copyvio, I won't delete it. However I can't promise it won't be sent to AfD, since as noted, it is a new series. Deletion Wars Continue...

Hello again.

It seems that Xanderliptak has returned to his crusade against Andrew Stewart Jamieson, now leading a discussion about the deletion of his page XfD today. I wonder if you would take a brief look at Jamieson's page and determine if the deletion discussion has any real merit. I am of the opinion that it does not, and I have added two references for books illustrated by Jamieson. One of these (Dictionary of Heraldry) was a major contribution to the field.

The bottom line still appears to be that Xanderliptak is an aspiring heraldic artist who is interfering with the Wikipedia page of an established and respected heraldic artist. At best, this is a seeming conflict of interest. Meanwhile, Xanderliptak has contributed many of his heraldic drawings and paintings to Wikimedia Commons (some of which are flawed, according to experts known to me, particularly with respect to Russian heraldry). It appears that by having his name attached to an increasing number of images on Wikipedia while advocating the deletion of other artists' pages, he hopes to engage in self-promotion "through the back door," as it were.

The Andrew Stewart Jamieson citation tag kurfuffle was what ultimately led to Xanderliptak's targeting my page for speedy deletion. From my perspective, this seems to be merely personal animosity masquerading as editorial fastidiousness.

I don't care anymore...

Thank you for your efforts, but it is clear that Xanderliptak (and at least one other user he's been able to enlist) simply wants to be a nuisance. Monitoring his activity is a colossal waste of my time, and I'd rather see the article Patrick O'Shea deleted than continue to deal with him.

I am willing to abide by an administrative determination of notability, and would be happy to try to improve the article, but I'm not going to "babysit" it 24/7 because I've irritated somebody who is, himself, using Wikipedia improperly to gain notoriety. My only potential regret concerning deletion would be that Xanderliptak will be emboldened to use this tactic as a weapon in the future when his edits are disputed.

Kabul Medical University (Peshawar)

Sorry for a late response. I just started university and have gotten very busy in it. You can find the list of medical colleges of Pakistan which I made this September. There is no college with the name of Kabul Medical College located in Peshawar or anywhere else in Pakistan. This is to the best of my knowledge and the search engines like Google. Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan, a country located just north-west of Pakistan. It is very likely that the university exists somewhere in Kabul of Afghanistan. It does have a website. There is also a possibility that the creator of the page must have confused Kabul Medical College with Khyber Medical College (located in Peshawar). In any case, the problem is now solved now as the word 'Peshawar' is no more in the title of Kabul Medical College. Even if there is a college with the name of 'Kabul' in Peshawar, it is not notable according to internet sources and should be ignored on wikipedia. Otherwise, its okay. Thanks! It is tricky since it is a content dispute and the page is up for deletion. I wouldn't worry too much about the image since it seems unlikely the page will survive AfD. Otherwise, try to engage the editor on the article talk page. If the editor refuses to discuss it, we can look at other options like blocks, etc. for disruptive editing. Could you advise on the repeated editing of this article to turn it into an advert for the company. Users ForeverPhoenix (talk · contribs), 82.70.30.238 (talk · contribs), A34hgb89gghz (talk · contribs) and a couple of the other IP editors are almost certainly the same person or persons at the company. They confirm it in their last edit. I have left several warnings on the talk page of A34hgb89gghz but it hasn't made any difference. What is the best way to proceed to ensure the article remains balanced. I have tried to include positive and negative items in the article and links to their own website and customer reviews etc. I have reverted again but am wary of doing that too often. I am trying to learn the Wiki ropes and am doing as Wiki suggested and starting with existing articles and picked a difficult topic/subject for my first leap (the Corrections Corporation of America page), I noticed that you'd made some comments. I am trying to make the article more encyclopedia and less "advertisement." I am also working on finding sources for sections that are missing some. The subject choice of this indefinitely blocked vandal Sunrise Hunter (Meher Baba and climate change) suggest to me that it's a sock of indefinitely blocked Jones.liam. Flower Taster too, who followed a similar pattern and edited User talk:Jones.liam. Possibly Lie Killer is another sock (topics in common with Sunrise Hunter are the user page User:Viriditas, climate change, criticism of Wikipedia and the recurrent phrase "sold its soul").

I'd put money on the relatedness of those accounts. Is there an advantage to a sock investigation when the editors are all quickly blocked indef? I was thinking in terms of long term abuse. This fellow seems to have become quite attached to Wikipedia before he was blocked, so I suspect he'll find it quite difficult to find another hobby. I'll hang on for a few weeks and see how often he comes back. I think there can be a benefit from tracking the evolution of sock puppeteers as they learn their trade, and developing tracking data fairly early on when the logs are fresh is presumably easier. Nip in the bud

Hello TeaDrinker, I want to nip in the bud any future problems that could occur if you use your administrator tools in a situation related to Climate Change. So, I'm asking you to:

1) review the section of the administrator policy related to not using your tools if involved,
2)review the section of the arbitration case ruling related to involvement and the discretionary sanctions,
3) voluntarily agree to abstain from participating as an uninvolved administrator for anything related to Climate Change since you are an active editor in this topic who regularly participates in talk page editorial discussions related conflicts in Climate Change articles, and reverts edits by using editorial discretion about the content.
4) and consider yourself formally notified of the discretionary sanctions so that you understand that future improper use of your admin tools or other problematic contributions will potentially be subject to sanctions.

I draw your attention to this issue since you recently violated Wikipedia:Administrator policy by blocking an user for WP:3RR when you were directing involved with editing the same article the same day by reverting the same user that you blocked.

It is extremely important for administrators to use best practices in the CC topic areas in order to minimize the the problems with enforcement of the sanctions. I'll watch for your answer here, and post my notification on AE after you reply. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 19:41, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your prompt reply. The main idea for you to remember is that as a general rule administrators shouldn't act as an administrator in situations where they also make a decision(s) about content by editing the article or participating in talk page discussions that influence the decision making. This is being enforced strictly by ArbCom remedy in the CC topic area now since questions about involved admins overly influencing the decision making was a key part of the dispute. The CC area needs experienced editors/admins helping write the articles so it is goodness that you are involved. The important thing to remember is that you can't do admin work in the CC area now. Just wondering why you immediately gave the Blu Simon page the nix. It was a good article and was still being finished and it was relevant to the midwest. Request For Help In An Edit War

Could I get your help with that edit war that is still going on at Walking with Dinosaurs? I get the impression that Raptor Red can not understand the fact that simply saying that a claim is not original research or synthesis does not automatically make that claim not original research and synthesis.--Mr Fink (talk) 02:56, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
