And by the way again, have you ever thought in using a shoutbox??? I can install you one if you want. - Damërung...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_. -- 02:37, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Here´s your manual:
Talk page shoutbox ver. 1.0
Owner´s manual
1. Introduction
The shoutbox is a useful tool where smaller comments are posted. Examples are, "thanks for .....", "are you online?", "nice edit", "I´ve finished the ......", etc. It can also be used as a semi-instant messaging box where conversations can be held. These are some advantages of using a shoutbox:
Avoids the need of creating a whole new section to place a small comment
As consequence of the previous, it prevents overflooding in the talk page (a talk page will be filled eventually with more comments, and the user may have to create archives for storage of the previous discussions, the use of this tool allows to keep clean or compact the talk page, and prevents the early need to use archives)
For users that are online, this can facilitate the synergy in cooperative edits on wikipedia. For example; if two or more users are working in real time on an article, articles of the same list or articles within the same category, they can communicate about progress or coordination tasks (again, avoiding overflooding)
The shoutbox is intended to be in the talk page, so the user gets inmediate notification of a new message. My intentions in creating this chat-tool are to help in wikipedia´s improvement and enhancement, not to be confused with a WP:NOT violation. The idea of using a shoutbox in talk pages was originally mine (I don´t know of other user who had the same idea as me previously), however, it was inspired by: ♥Soccer5525♥Talk To Me! (so I´m giving his/her corresponding credits)
2. Use & maintenance
To place a new comment in the shoutbox, a text in the bottom says "Please make comments at the top. Click here to shout" and it redirects to the edit section of the page. The shoutbox is a fixed object that must be in the first (on top) part of the edit section (the source code) so a user can see an arrow which leads him where to place the comment. The reply is suposed to be in the respective shoutbox of the other wikipedian.
You can change the position in where the shoutbox is placed; in the picture, you can see a line highlighted, that is the code for the positioning stuff. The number "20px" means that the object will separate 20 pixels from the right margins (and 50 pixels (px) from the top margins). The proper separation varies in each user talk page. You can also change the word "right" for "left" and "top" for "bottom" and the code will work accordingly. The code highlighted in the left means that the position from margins will be taken as of the page and not the screen. For example: if you change the word "absolute" for "fixed", the position will be separated from the screen margins (which are not the same). In consequence, the object (in this case, the shoutbox) will stick to the screen, no matter if you scroll down the page. Also, in the section marked below, if you change the word "collapsible" for "collapsible collapsed", with this you can make the shoutbox to stay collapsed all the time by default (untill you press the button "show"), keeping the shoutbox even more compact.
Periodically you must manually clean (delete) the past comments, so the shoutbox is kept clean.
I replaced the image with one I created myself. Tell me if you like it. Also, I decided to add the shoutbox to my talk page in addition. The problem is, it covers up my Archive Box. It would be nice if there was a way to have the Shoutbox collapsed when the page first loads, but then a user wishes to shout, they could click the show link and it would open, then they could shout. Is there a way I can make collapsed by defualt? --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 17:00, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, the image is cool. What do you use to create it? (I mean wich program, and how did you do to create it without background, this may sound too basic (perhaps extremely basic), but I want to know how to do it, because I´ve never do it before). About the shoutbox, you can alter whether you want it collapsed all the time or uncollapsed, this by changing the word: "collapsible" for "collapsible collapsed". You can find this section of the source code of this shoutbox (here in your talk page) at the 8th line; you can clearly see:
at that line. Even collapsed, it overlaps a little with your blue archive box, but as the manual says, you can alter the position too (like your smiley face at the bottom-left). I will add this to the instructive booklet and also I took the freedom to make this changes here on your talk page, i hope you don´t mind. Contact me for anything else you want, and spread the shoutbox (if you want) (notice that it also adds people who uses it to a category). - Damërung...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_. -- 17:41, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for saying the image is cool, and for telling me how to hide the shoutbox by defualt! I made the image in inkscape (as you may guess). You see a transparent background, because in Inkscape, the background is by defualt transparent when you first start drawing, and I decied to keep it that way. I also used a bunch of gradients and some text, but that's mainly it. --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 17:56, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, I am putting the shoutbox on every user page of mine (including the page when people edit my talk page), and that is why I have a whole different page/section for my shoutbox. --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 18:01, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
a littleinsignificant has given you a kitten! Kittens promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Kittens must be fed three times a day and will be your faithful companion forever! Spread the WikiLove by giving someone else a kitten, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.
Spread the goodness of kittens by adding {{subst:Kitten}} to someone's talk page with a friendly message!
Thanks, but the Subst: is a bad idea because we're trying to save all that space, and simplify it for the common people who find all that syntax confusing. Bugboy52.4 | =-=16:25, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
I must insist on hereby, I, Bugboy52.4, awarding Sushiflinger for being humble and giving me the credit, mean while he actually did half of the tweaking and all of the documentation. and not including that he put up with me...becuase that would need a whole another award :)Bugboy52.4 | =-=01:55, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
-download ׀ sign! has given you a LOLipop! This horrible pun and delicious candy promotes WikiLove and tells the world how low you will stoop for the sake of humor. Spread WikiLove by giving someone else a lollipop, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.
Spread the unrelenting joy of lollipops by adding {{subst:Lollipop}} to someone's talk page with a friendly message!
Yay! Wikilove all 'round!
a littleinsignificant has given you a kitten! Kittens are soft and fluffy, and some people are allergic to them. They are armed with sharp, sharp claws with which to protect themselves from predators! Kittens must be fed three times a day, or they become restless and devour their owners! Spread the joy of kittens to other people, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with and seek vengeance upon, or just a good friend.
Spread the happiness and warmth of kittens by adding {{subst:Kitten}} to someone's talk page with a friendly message!
Oh, I forgot to mention: See those rows of smileys on my user page? Each smiley says a different phrase when you mouse over it. I'm not done yet, I've only finished the top half, but you can still look at it if you want. a littleinsignificant02:11, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I noticed you have edited several of my images regarding the White House Complex and have changed the typeface and in most do not acknowledge me as the creator. Any reason for the font change? it is less legible. Thanks. CApitol3 (talk) 02:35, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi, White House Complex and all the named floor plans on the White House article. The typeface I used is Scala Sans which avoids thick/thin lines and hence displays well at smaller sizes. ThanksCApitol3 (talk)
I am sorry about that. The font used was not specified in the png, and during the SVGification by ZooFari and I, we used the closest font found. Perhaps you could fix it yourself, if it is a pressing matter. --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 23:25, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
