Hello, Sungodtemple...
I think I figured out how to add material by imitating what others have done though I don't know if I did it visually or with the complicated coding system. Any guidance is welcome. Thanks for reading this. Henry Abraham MD --Henry Abraham MD (talk) 19:23, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Hello, Sungodtemple... thanks for the feedback on the new page. I am not a professional author for this type of content so I need a bit of help in understanding exactly what in the page is written like an advertisement and what is considered promotional material.
I used the structure of this page Ripple_(payment_protocol) as a rough guide to make a much simpler page since the two things are in similar industries.
I would like your guidance on how to improve this page. This will help me to revise the page so that is meets with the standards for publication here. Hatter.glass (talk) 13:41, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you Sungodtemple. I appreciate you taking the time to respond on this matter. I have just made an overhaul edit with this in mind. If you have a moment, could you let me know if the rewrite meets the tone/standards required for publication? Hatter.glass (talk) 15:17, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for this heads-up on this. I can cite higher quality sources but I would need that person to tell me which of the sources is considered high quality and which are not. It is hard to understand how something that is starting to power the economies of nation states can be considered not notable but again, this is not my field so I will defer to the experts. Hatter.glass (talk) 15:48, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Hello Sungodtemple, would you suggest that it is ok to remove the tag:
Trail Talk to be blunt the paragraph you inserted is written poorly. You may want to see the guideline on undue weight; while the history of the town is important, it has not achieved a level of notability where more than half the article should be dedicated to it. I would say, shorten it to 1/5 its current size, talking in an encyclopedic manner. WP:FORUM may deserve to be looked over.
thanks for your feedback, perhaps Wikipedia isn't the appropriate forum for this content and I will seek out another. Please tell me how to delete my contributions. Trail Talk (talk) 21:45, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Mohamed Aarab, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
Sczood I highly discourage you from creating a new article as your first contribution to Wikipedia. Usually this results in wasted effort and frustration as new editors come to terms with the huge amount of policies and guidelines that exist on Wikipedia.
Hey! It's nice to finally message you. I've started doing some copyedits and immediately run into a problem. I've found that a lot of these articles are outdated and/or have severe foundational problems that warrant full rewriting. Is there a way to delegate some of these articles to higher standards of revision? --UnbearableIsBad (talk) 02:46, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Jungo the space monkey, it is only appropriate as your mentor to ask of you, why do you make an article? It is a common misconception that creating a new article is the best or even only way to contribute to Wikipedia, but this could not be further from the truth. In fact, simple tasks such as stopping vandalism and copy-editing articles have a larger effect on the success of the encyclopedia than creating a new article. Creating a new article is not only a marginal improvement to Wikipedia, it is also one of the hardest things that can be done. So, as your mentor, seeking to help you edit Wikipedia, I recommend starting with easier-to-understand edits that can build up to the creation of new articles at the newcomer Homepage. Vandalism on the All Engines Go page?
Why am I being accused of vandalism on the Thomas All Engines Go page? I was only trying to fix the issue of Britt being labeled as the creator for this show when it is plainly false. Sure, she may have been credited as the creator for the first two season of that show, but she has made it clear on her Facebook (whether you consider it a reliable source or not) that she had nothing to do with it. This was fixed starting with Season 3 when her name was removed from the opening credits, but you insist that it remain that she remain listed as the creator. This is the biggest problem on the All Engines Go page.
I do not have any malicious intention, I did not intend to cause any trouble. Why are the staff and bots accusing me of vandalism? I am really stressed out. 73.44.158.13 (talk) 14:35, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
IP editor, I was reverting what appeared to be vandalism. The Britt Allcroft article corroborates that she created the series. If you can find a source that is preferably not WP:PRIMARY then raise it on the talk page to discuss what the infobox should say. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 16:51, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
im kinda new and having trouble with editing templates and stuff and editing citations. Also with the population thing I was pointing out how I could find no reliable information on the population of the town, and the information on the zip code population was varied C0lt0nwiki (talk) 13:56, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
C0lt0nwiki, first, thank you for communicating with other editors. Many new editors don't realize that there is a talk page!
All information must be verifiable, so including your own research would conflict with that. This is called original research on Wikipedia.
Hello! I made an edit to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Nevada_Corporation article and wanted to make sure I am correctly disclosing a COI that I don't think I have (I worked for a company that Sierra Nevada acquired). I have not worked for either company since 2007 and have zero relationship to either one now. I was going to use Sierra Nevada as a "learning lab" to gain Wikipedia editing skills with the goal of getting the article cleaned up and organized such that I feel confident in removing the "Reads Like a Press Release" template. --3rdAct (talk) 18:10, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
3rdAct that was a great start! I think the main issue with the article right now is that it goes into excessive detail on Sierra Nevada's projects. An article on a company should focus not just on its products but also management, critical assessment, etc.
Per WP:BALANCE, think about what a book written about Sierra Nevada would contain in it, and try to replicate that. BAE Systems, a featured article, may also serve as inspiration for what to include.
Note that improving an article is a difficult task on Wikipedia; it's fine if you don't volunteer in content areas. For example, my volunteer time is mostly spent reverting vandalism, patrolling promotional and paid articles, and guiding new editors. I rarely actually work on content articles. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 18:17, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the fast feedback! Everybody must start somewhere; I'm thinking that if I can reorganize the main Sierra Nevada article that will naturally lead me to (perhaps) breaking off some of their substantive projects into articles of their own. Along the way I'll learn the visual editor and the peculiarities of linked etc. I'll use the policy articles (such as WP:BALANCE to learn the ropes). I'll go slow and yell for guidance if I feel like I'm on thin ice. 3rdAct (talk) 20:56, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi Sungodtemple, in clearing up some vandalism on your talk page from a spammer, I went to block the spamming user but because I had your talk page loaded, the blocking tool instead blocked your account. I have of course unblocked you immediately. Please accept my profuse and sincere apologies for this genuine error. WaggersTALK13:56, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
Muhammad khan23 given the effort you have put in to writing this question, maybe you shouldn't work on the much more challenging task of creating an article. It can take hours to make even a lukewarm one.
Hi, you recently rejected my draft on Dimitris Zissis, on the basis that it does not meet the notability criteria.
Dimitris Zissis meets "Criteria 1. The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources".
He is specifically mentioned in reference 3 (https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/03088839.2020.1788731), on page 584 "Authors shape a research field with their publications. Table 5 presents the most impactful authors in the big data and AI in research the maritime domain. Dimitrios Zissis, Luca Cazzanti and Leonardo M. Millefiori are the top three authors". The Journal of Maritime Policy & Management, is one of the most esteemed journals and the flagship journal of international shipping and port research published by Taylor & Francis. This publication is peer reviewed and is one of the most credible and reliable sources.
Is this not ok for criteria 1? or do I need to describe in another way in the article? 195.251.132.67 (talk) 09:54, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi thanks for the quick reply. This source referenced is one of the most valid in this domain, while also blind peer reviewed. It is a review journal paper which places him first in the ranking. Would a better explanation of this paper and findings suffice? Merry Xmas! 62.1.150.73 (talk) 05:45, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
Question from FergusArgyll (18:59, 28 December 2023)
Hi, I've added a source to a different article. I'm just trying to get a feel for the workflow. Is this an acceptable source? if the source just validates part of the claims of the article, should I add it or is it better to leave it without sources at all?
FergusArgyll in the case that the article doesn't already have a 'references' section, you need to add one yourself. It is at the end typically after 'See Also' and before anything else (per MOS:ORDER). Essentially all you have to do is create a 'References' section and put the reflist template under it.
Question from FergusArgyll (16:55, 30 December 2023)
Using books as references.
Some topics' best refs are from books, if they cannot be read online for free but I happen to own them (or can read them anyway), what are the rules for using them?
Which books are considered reliable?
how do I link to them? do I just put book title, author and page number? a little text?
FergusArgyll you can use common sense when it comes to reliability; if it is published by a well-known press, for example. To cite them, you can press 'Manual' -> 'Book' or use Template:Cite book. I'm not familiar with visual editor so you can probably try the 'automatic' citation generator using ISBN as well.
Question from FergusArgyll (22:00, 31 December 2023)
Is there a way to ask for collaborators on an article? A template I can place that'll let people know I'm looking for some help? I started working on improving the 'Vilna Gaon' page, I gathered a bunch of sources and put them in the talk page. I'm looking for someone to help me boil them down into well written sentences, as well as help finding more.
Thanks --FergusArgyll (talk) 22:00, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
FergusArgyll you can always ask at the relevant WikiProject, but there's no guarantee someone will be there to help you. Keep in mind, there are only ~110000 active users and ~6750000 articles.
Hello, i'm trying to add a couple of names (Jeff Pintar and Phillip Romero) to the "roster" section of the 1991 Fresno State Baseball wiki page but they are appearing at top of section instead of in the section. Can you please help/advise how to fix this so names appear in order with other names? Thank you. --Mrupsich (talk) 19:14, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
Thankyou. I tried this and the change is showing at the top of the section. Would you be able to look at it and make the change? Thank you. Mrupsich (talk) 16:46, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
I want to help get the truth out about what really happened on January 6th at our U.S. Capitol. It was an inside job by the deep state and the democrats and most of the republicans. --Oldsmobubblered1966 (talk) 14:43, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
Draft page was rejected based on "This draft's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article. In summary, the draft needs to
meet any of the eight academic-specific criteria"...
But it does meet criteria 1 (from Google Scholar as well as from https://today.ttu.edu/posts/2021/12/Stories/Texas-Tech-Faculty-Members-Rank-Among-Top-Global-Researchers), 2 (received Distinguished Service Award from the International Association for Landscape Ecology-North America), and 6 (was President of the International Association for Landscape Ecology-North America). Therefore, the rejection from Sungodtemple was not warranted.
Eleodes having a high citation count alone is not an indicator of #1, and the International Associate for Landscape Ecology-North America is not a very well-known academic society, as far as I know. (It is not brought up much at AfD, according to a cursory search). Nevertheless, the other decline reason is still relevant. You are welcome to resubmit, of course, but address the problems I have brought up. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 03:06, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Could you please define "well-known"? The society has over 500 members at present and is the largest chapter in the world for the discipline of landscape ecology.
How to add a table on the side with approved logo yk?
I want to know if i can make a side table so i can get the ICAO and IATA in there for Draft:Legend Airlines(Romania), Can you edit it so its a table there (no info in it) or can you tell me? Poyeker (talk) 14:40, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
You declined my draft saying it needs more resources but the language that I wrote about is my own language that means I don't need recources. Jcoego (talk) 15:12, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
Criteria 10 - "Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, such as a ... notable film,... "
This is evidenced by his work on the documentary film
Echo in the Canyon (scroll down to 'Cast', and see Echo in the Canyon band)
Criteria 8 - "Has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award."
He played on all tracks on the Grammy Nominated album 'Somebody Save Me' see Sugaray Rayford (see first paragraph, last sentence); and by association he received a Grammy nomination for participation.
Question from RexlexRegis (02:58, 17 January 2024)
Good morning Mentor, Compliments of the season. I wrote an article on sandbox and I am finding it difficult to publish. What shall I do and how can I go about it? --RexlexRegis (talk) 02:58, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Hello, Mentor. I want to create an article about Joseph-Laurent Malaine but have not found how to CREATE an article - only a draft - Im not a new contributor, I know how to write a good article. Must I really go through the long draft process ??
Thanks for your help. --Rouncival (talk) 21:00, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
Well I'm having trouble finding references from the internet, so either I throw myself in the bookstore or try harder... I don't have doubt s that this is lacking notability however... The jpwiki one relied on a single citations throughout the entire article so I kinda tried... AlphaBetaGammsh (talk) 03:33, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
"A Google Sheets file is insufficient sourcing. Anyone can make and publish one."
Well, it's an official sheet listed on IOSYS's website. At first I cited the web page it was listed on (https://www.iosysos.com/discography.html) but got denied, now I cite the sheet directly and get denied again, how am I supposed to cite it?
NyanKatGrrrl (talk) 01:42, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
But that's about the discography section of the primary article when a separate discography article exists, and at the top it says "Musicians who have released a significant amount of work should be given their own discography articles." NyanKatGrrrl (talk) 17:31, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
NyanKatGrrrl ah, I see the excessively long Discography section in IOSYS now... Thanks for correcting me! I will accept the draft if you resubmit.
So you're saying a short discography embedded in the main article doesn't need separate notability, but a long discography that needs to be split due to length does need separate notability? I am understanding what you're saying correctly? Also, if an artist is notable, how does that not also make their discography notable? NyanKatGrrrl (talk) 16:22, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
Actually, at least based on the sources currently provided, IOSYS does not meet the notability criteria. Usually for discographies, at least a couple albums or singles have their own article. S0091 (talk) 16:31, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

hello
I would like to create a page for one of an aspiriging Nepali singer/music player. Could you please help ? Thank you --Sagarmdahal (talk) 05:23, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
Make sure you understand that creating a new article is one of the most challenging tasks that a newbie can start with on Wikipedia, and I would recommend starting with something simpler (such as an easy task described at your newcomer homepage) and working your way up. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 13:51, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
CharlesCra38350, that is a very broad question. If you are asking how to edit, you can simply click on the 'Edit' or 'Edit source' button at the top of the page you want to edit.
The thing is, Nobody really has made any articles, So I am deciding to make the first one. Also, Are we allowed to write about our own thing, ex my software?

Thank you so much for reviewing the first draft of the proposed Environmental Keeper Groups page. I appreciate the opportunity to revise and resubmit. One challenge that I am facing is that keeper groups as a whole are under researched and under reported. Most information available about them, as you can see, comes from their own web pages. In this case, where the wikipedia article would stand as an important inaugural resource for the first time bringing together information on these types of groups, what would you recommend as a starting point to get it published so we can build from there? Cosmicpapabear the version history system is like Git but with only one branch. Pseudo-branches are done by referring to previous diffs when performing actions like reverting.
Californiawriter, to answer your question, you can start writing a new article whenever you want.
However, note that you can't create an article directly in 'mainspace', or where viewers see it. Instead, there is a technical restriction which only allows you to create a new article directly when you are autoconfirmed - that is, your account has existed for four complete days and made ten edits.
Furthermore, creating a new article is one of the most difficult things you could possibly do on Wikipedia, only made even more arduous since you are a new editor. This would be akin to attending a chess competition having just learned what the rules are.
If your mind is set on creating a new article, I highly recommend you spend some time (at least a few days) making edits suggested at your newcomer homepage, then reading the Your First Article page very carefully and creating a draft. Also note that creating articles is generally not the best way you can contribute to Wikipedia.

Which tools should I use to determine if an edit is vandalism so I can revert only if it was determined to be vandalism? --TheMadScien🐠23 (💬) 14:18, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
TheMadScienFish23vandalism is editing deliberately intended to interfere with the encyclopedia. For example, this revert was likely unjustified since the editor was adding sourced material. Meanwhile this revert was justified since the editor was trying to add promotional content to the article, obstructing the creation of an encyclopedia.

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I
Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:
Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:
Hello
I’m new to Wikipedia editing, however I love research and writing, on specific topics: ie,…historical concerning sites and or persons, art and architecture, musicians; this being noted, my interests are broad. I’m open to learn. I was able to edit and add links, on first try, but certainly could use a mentor? How do I go about asking for such? Would it be based on topic, style, formats? I did find the first addition of the Fort Collins high school newspaper on this pape, however, is the wiki AI bot looking for just the url page from which the newspaper is launched?
Veeleestarr --Veeleebarr (talk) 18:47, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Veeleebarr when the bot wants you to add a link, it's referring to an internal link or wikilink. Fort Collins High School doesn't have a section about its newspaper, so you would have to add one. I would not recommend doing so until learning more about content standards.
I am automatically assigned as your mentor and can answer most of your questions as a beginner. If you want a different mentor (maybe one more aligned with your interests) you can ask at the Teahouse. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 21:50, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi. My wife has just published a book so I would like to make a bio page for her. I have created an account and tried to use the code as suggested but I cannot see the template, only the code. Please advise. Thanks --MCMuckle (talk) 11:05, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Squircle Capital the 'save changes' button was changed to read 'publish changes' to make it clear that anyone anywhere can find the changes if they know where to look. However the article will not be accessible to most readers until it is in mainspace.
RFA2024 update: phase I concluded, phase II begins
Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:
