India, Indian Navy articleThe section on Indian military in the India article need to be expanded. This is a main article and hence the Military information need to be precise. I am assuming you followed the discussion on WT:INB about adding a pre-independence parameter to the India project banner so that it will represent the Indian-subcontinent. User:Szhaider feels we are claiming the history of South Asia for ourselves. He wants these articles to be under the scope of newly created Wikipedia:WikiProject History of South Asia. He created this project and he is the only member. He is engaging in edit war by removing the India project banners from articles that are tagged as Indian-history related. I would like your advise about how to proceed, should I report this to WP:ANI, or should India project scope be limited to only-post-indepedence articles since this user feels Pakistani Wikipedians will be offended seeing Ashoka Chakra and India project links on the article tag pages (For example: Talk:Taxila). I have translated two from en to hindi (Tirunavukarassar and Manikkavasagar) and one from hindi to english (Kotpuli). O and it it pronounced Nayanar (last "a" like in murmur) or Nayanaar ("a" as in guitar)? The first option would be "नयनर" and the second "नयनार" in hindi. CoimbatoreHello, on your user site I saw that Tamil is your mother tongue. I hope you can help me with my question concerning the Tamil spelling of Coimbatore. In the English Wikipedia, the Tamil name of Coimbatore is given as கோயம்பத்தூர் (which translates into Kōyampattūr if I'm not mistaken) while the Tamil Wikipedia says கோயம்புத்தூர் (i.e. Kōyamputtūr). Which name is the correct (or more common) one and why? Thanks in advance for your help! Sundar, I request you to keep an eye on these two articles. User:Sarvagnya has tagged both with OR, notability and/or AfD tags. I am personally not that worried if dappankuthu doesn't survive AfD, since I can always recreate it when better references become available. But Madras Tamil is a totally serious article and took a lot of collaboration to come up to its usefulness. I have removed his tags and explained on article talk page. I would appreciate it if you could keep an eye on these two articles for a few days. I have been very busy in real life with work, and haven't checked my watchlist for months. I found out about the two articles quite by accident today and cleaned up the best I could. Tamil language articleHi Sundar, I just observed that somebody has nominated the Tamil article for FAR. I have had some misgivings about the article myself for some time now. But nothing that you or Arvind wouldnt have been able to address. I've been meaning to ping you or Arvind about it for some time now, but either I've been busy with other things or you and Arvind have been inactive. Not to mention, I am a hopeless procrastinator myself and that has contributed too. I particularly have some misgivings about some prose which the three of us added after a long discussion. I'm not too concerned about the content there, but my concern is that the prose is very confusing. Infact, I had also mentioned it once during the course of our discussions. You then went ahead and made the changes and I somehow, never got around to take another look with a fresh pair of eyes. Now this FAR seems to have precipitated things for us and I thought I should ping you before I made any statement on that FAR talk page. And then, I'd imagine, the editor who has nominated it for FAR would have his own questions to pose too. I guess its time for you and Arvind to come out of hibernation for a while :). btw, can you ping arvind if you find him anywhere. There is a conflict brewing between two users who look to be Tamil. They seem to be arguing about Vellala and Mudaliars, and which caste gives up Devadasis. Since you are actually from Tamil Nadu, I was hoping you would be able to comprehend what these two are arguing about. Perhaps it would help to create more subarticles, for the differnt epochs of Tamil, the reconstructed protolanguages, etc and get the content settled there. Wrong interwikiHi. I'd just like to mention that in this edit, Sundarbot correctly added a Thai interwiki link but incorrectly added a Russian one. The film in question (which is considered a very sophisticated and influential one) was released in 1967, while the film in the Russian article (which has the same title) is a porn film released in 1994. I wonder if anything like that can be prevented in the future... maybe making it search for release years in the case of film articles (there's usually a category at the bottom)? VannakamJust my 2 cents, First RA's Arbcomm and now this ANI. Both of you are experienced admins and have been around, so that’s what surprises me (pardon me for saying it) regarding this. Issues are really an open and shut cases but the leg work has been poor. I once spent 2 weeks researching the comments of a disruptive editor for 6 months in an arbcomm case that went favorably, I was merely helping out but I learnt a lot from the lawyer (in real life) who initiated that case. Wikipedian has given Wikipedia ample, ample, ample material to get him banned (that is evidence galore). Wikipedain's tone according to many (again evidence) is allegedly one of the most flippant, brash and uncivil in nature that has been seen in South Asia specific editors who is not a vandal or a troll, apparently showing a total lack of respect for fellow human beings let alone Wikipedians. That means there is a lot of evidence, that although may be self apparent to you and others is not to other admins unless pointed out (hard work, research and evidence gathering). The goal of conflict resolution has to be a reformed Wikipedian who can check their emotions and pov’s and edit collaboratively or a banned Wikipedian, nothing in between, but a half hearted attempt only emboldens pov pushers. I am not sure if that is factually and historically correct, and in any case, that paragraph cites no evidence to support it. It seems to be purely someone's opinion. Is there a way I can remove it? Re: Biasing of Indian articlesDear Sundar, I am requesting your assistance in dealing with a user who routinely biases indian articles by interweaving discredited colonial theories, original research, and fanwank.
As such, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. If you could please add your support in my appeal to the wikipedia administration in correcting the Indo Greek article (which he rules as a personal fiefdom), that would make a big difference. His work is quietly diluting the accuracy and quality of indian articles, and I truly hope we can put end to that. Users vastu, pavanapuram,windy city dude, and mahitgar have already called that contributor's practices into question. Your assistance and voice would be welcome. Hi Sundar. Most of those references were actually used when the article was written. At some stage, I took out most references to "native" grammars of Tamil to forestall objections and claims of OR, POV and the suchlike, which were coming fast and thick. I still think it's probably safer if we stick to "western" grammars of Tamil. I have a copy of Pope, plus a couple of other shorter descriptions of Tamil grammatical. Let me know which bits you think need citing, and I'll add them in. I must say I'm also a little perplexed by the suggestion that only references that've been cited should be in the "References" section. This is absolutely contrary to encyclopaedic practice - the references list in a typical longer Britannica article, for example, doubles up as a list of suggestions for further reading. One would have thought that the English Wikipedia, if it aims to be a serious rival, would want to do something of that sort, but I've long since given up trying to find logic in its policies. -- Arvind 12:06, 1 August 2007 (UTC) Re the edits to Tamil people: my understanding is that many SL Muslims believe themselves to be descended from Arabs; but the extent to which this belief is actually true is a more complex issue.
