I'm the guy at User talk:128.46.143.54 who made the edits to Chennai and Kapaleeshwarar temple. I was signed in at the time but I think I flushed my cookie cache halfway through! That's why the article change is listed under my IP address and not my username. Sorry for the confusion. I'm currently adding material to Chennai. Do you know of any good, free satellite maps of the city? I found two at digitalglobe but I'm not sure if we can use them here. --Brhaspati 07:16, 2005 Jan 9 (UTC)
Sundar, could you check the Tamil Unicode characters in the Chennai article? I have some problems with the order of characters - what renders correctly in Firefox doesn't seem to render well in IE and vice versa. I get the vowel character after the consonant, which isn't right. Now I don't know which sequence is correct. --Brhaspati 06:41, 2005 Jan 11 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the Barnstar! Much appreciated! I hope we can add some images soon and try for Featured Article. -- Brhaspati 11:03, 2005 Jan 14 (UTC) India Wikipedia bulletin boardHey Sundar, would you be interested in joining the Indian Wikipedians' notice board? Thanks! Feel free to pass the message on to anyone else you think might be interested. --Improv 17:32, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC) The Humungous Image Tagging ProjectHi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
Cognitive dissonanceHi. In your last edit to Cognitive dissonance, you had not made any change and you've rightly indicated in your edit summary. I'm just curious to know why you would do a null edit. I hope it's not to mask your previous edit. -- Sundar 05:38, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
Neither do I know. But, got a long itching question answered. Thanks. -- Sundar 21:03, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC) Thanks for your concernHello Sundar. I am not leaving Wikipedia; I will just be inactive for few months, before I come back. Thanks for the message. utcursch 07:48, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC) Copyright and blogsDear Sundar, I had a doubt, I was sure you will be able to answer. I now hold a Creative Commons "Some rights reserved" licence. I was wondering if anything prevents me from putting up my contributions on my blogs. Anything legally/ethically wrong with that? Also, am I elegible to put up 'minorly edited' versions of my articles on my blog? Are they still mine?? Could you please clarify? Regards, Prashanthns 08:46, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)
SikkimI've done the Sikkim district map for now. I'll be away for a day or two. Please could you continue the excellent copyediting that you are doing on Sikkim and taking care of the objections? Thanks Nichalp
Welcome messageThanks for pointing that out. I'll take care. utcursch 10:44, Feb 16, 2005 (UTC) ThavilHi Sundar, yeah, i will work on Thavil when I get time. However, I had attended a lecture by some big music research person on Nagaswaram during December and I will probably be able to contribute there. Time is the only problem ;) HairyPotter 11:45, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC) Madras bashaiJust to let you know that my current project is Madras bashai. I'd like to link it strongly with Tamil language (that's the basic substrate). Do you know what exactly Ethnologue means by the "Madras dialect" of Tamil? Does that include the practice of converting "paditthu" to "padchi" and "eppadi irukke?" to "eppadi kiray?"? Or does it refer to something else? -- Brhaspati 12:20, 2005 Feb 18 (UTC) [quoting from dialect] A dialect is a complete system of verbal communication (oral but not necessarily written), with its own vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. This means that Madras bashai is a dialect of Tamil. Let me give more inputs when I come back on tuesday. Can you in the mean time take care of the FAC nomination for Tamil? We should nominate Chennai next for that. -- Sundar 12:49, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your help with Tamil. Will definitely do the best I can with Chennai. I'll also look at Madras bashai. -- Sundar 04:26, Feb 23, 2005 (UTC) MapsI'm just a novice at making maps, learning the tricks of the trade. :) Ankur is the real pro at cartography. Since he is away, I don't mind volunteering for making a map. However you would have to provide me with a reference map — preferably a map which is clear and does not have to much detail. Nichalp 18:40, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I do agree that Chennai article needs a lot of improvement. You experience with Mumbai would be of real help. As for the map, we need a map showing the areas with "non-trivial" number of Tamil speakers, may be the intensity shall be proportional to the density/absolute number. I'll get you the population figures. Thanks. -- Sundar 04:30, Feb 23, 2005 (UTC) This has info on major settlements. For minor settlements mentioned in the Geographic distribution section, we can assume some minimal population density or try to look up the web. -- Sundar 05:40, Feb 23, 2005 (UTC)
Help RequiredHi,
I am Amruta. I am a first year masters student, studying Human Computer Interaction at Georgia Tech. Currently i am enrolled in a course on online communities. As part of the course we are supposed to study an online community of our interest. I went through wikipedia and was really amazed to find that they also had a site in Hindi. I found this really interesting and so thought about exploring how the content differs when the language changes, how people access wikipedia when it is in a different langugae or specifically when it is their mother tongue. And so the theme for my project is Wikipedia is available in many different languages. While the interface and concept stay the same, the content and the way people utilize it seem to be significantly different from one language to another. I can see this clearly when I compare the Hindi and English versions. How does culture effect the content and the way people participate in creating it? Which features stay the same? Which features are more exploited in different languages/cultures? If there are similar sites to Wikipedia in their original language, why do those subjects prefer (or do they) to participate in Wikipedia rather than the other alternative? As part of this project we are supposed to interview 3 people from the community we are studying. The final result of this paper will be to write a paper based on our findings. I have a project group of 3 people all of different nationalities, one Turkish and another Spanish. I was trying to find indian and hindi speaking users for this and came across your name on wikipedia and so i thought you might be able to give me some insight on this. The main reason to write to you is, i would really appreciate it if you could be one of my subjects for conducting an interview as you might be able to give me some insight into this issue. Participation in my study is completely voluntary. Your name or personal details will never be revealed to anyone during this course. In case you have any doubts you can go through this page http://www.cc.gatech.edu/classes/AY2005/cs6470_spring/researchstudy/
Thanks a lot for your time again, Amrutasl 23:16, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Return of the Untagged Image projectYou were kind enough to contribute to the Wikipedia:Untagged images project; I beg to draw your attention to part 2 of the project - there are about 12,000 more images in need of tagging. Any assistance you could provide would be most welcome. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) MapI've made this map: I don't know if this is what you are looking for. Allagappan.gnu 10:15, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC) Congratulations!Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 22:53, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
