ArbCom 2019 election voter messageGoogle Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!Hello, Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia. I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in! From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community. If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org. Thank you! --User:Martin Urbanec (talk) 21:59, 23 November 2019 (UTC) Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 11News and updates associated with user scripts from the past month (November 2019). Enjoy your thanksgiving --DannyS712 (talk) 08:22, 28 November 2019 (UTC) batchtest-plusHi. Would you be willing to support only showing edits that matched the specific action type requested?
I tested this using the javascript console, and it worked. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 02:32, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
Edits on the List of youngest killersHello! I have seen that you made some edits to the list. I have no disagreement with most of them except the one you say 'according to source was possibly an accident'. Nothing on the list says that only those who committed incidental deaths should be there, so by 'killers' I understand that all those who have caused a death, accidental or not, can be there. Perhaps this is something to be discussed by the community. Tell me what you think! Agente Rolf (talk) 21:25, 14 December 2019 (UTC) Zoolander editsCan you point me to the policy which prohibits the factual information about the cast of a movie on the movie's wikipedia page? I note that wikipedia is politically neutral and the redaction of certain factual information seems to fall foul of this. Lord of Sleech (talk) 19:57, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Test wiki questionWhen you have time, could you swing by the test wiki and have a look at filter 211. Think there's enough there for you to get the idea of what I'm looking for, don't want to spill too many WP:BEANS here. Home Lander (talk) 00:41, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Edit war over a COI
Hey, how are you? I was doing some cleanup of the Wickety Wak page to maintain encyclopedic tone. Someone who I assume is the original author, or the archivist mentioned at the end of the article (or both) keeps scrubbing mine and a few other editors' cleanup attempts. Myself and another editor have flagged the page with a COI but the author in question keeps removing it. (Update 23/01: They keep deleting my Talk page correspondence as well.)
Could I call upon you for assistance? LoofNeZorf (talk) 02:45, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
- @LoofNeZorf: I currently (mostly) away from Wikipedia, but I'll take a look when I get back. But, COI cleanup isn't really my "area", so you may get a better response at WP:COIN. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 20:15, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I've taken the recommend action. LoofNeZorf (talk) 06:28, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

- Wikipedia:User scripts/Most imported scripts now also shows the number of active users for each script. It will now be updated by a bot periodically.
- Twinkle's Morebits library added a new
Morebits.date
class to replace the moment library. It can handle custom formatting and natural language for dates, as well as section header regexes. If you were usinggetUTCMonthName
orgetUTCMonthNameAbbrev
withDate
objects, those have been deprecated and should be updated. - User:SD0001/find-archived-section was made a gadget. You can enable it from your gadget preferences, in the Browsing section.
Hope everyone stays safe. --DannyS712 (talk) 20:27, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
Filter 1053
Thanks for fixing the throttle params, I read up the docs and that wasn't there. I was wondering how does user,range,page
behave? Will that track ranges as well? Also, was there any reason for disabling the tag? --qedk (t 愛 c) 06:49, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- @QEDK: It's a mess. From the source, it looks like:
foreach ( $types as $subtype ) { $identifiers[] = $this->throttleIdentifier( $subtype ); } $identifier = sha1( implode( ':', $identifiers ) ); #... protected function throttleIdentifier( $type ) { $request = RequestContext::getMain()->getRequest(); switch ( $type ) { case 'ip': $identifier = $request->getIP(); break; case 'user': $identifier = $this->user->getId(); break; case 'range': $identifier = substr( IPUtils::toHex( $request->getIP() ), 0, 4 ); break; #... case 'page': $identifier = $this->title->getPrefixedText(); break;
- But according to the docs for
IPUtils::toHex
for an IPv6 address will be prefixed with "v6-". So if User:2600:1000:BF08:AD7:C5EA:BB73:F24C:B3FF edits Foo the throttle key foruser,range,page
will be0:v6-2:Foo
, i.e. the key will only depend on the first digit! Not dangerous likeip,page
orrange,page
, which really shouldn't even be allowed on WMF wikis, but probably not all the useful either. - Not sure what you're asking about the tag; you disabled it before I made the change. If that was a bug and you didn't mean to do that, no, I don't know the cause. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 17:43, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oooof, that's not a good sight. No idea how I did not realize that I disabled my own tag, must've missed my morning coffee then. Either way, thanks for the help, appreciate it! --qedk (t 愛 c) 06:12, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Please disable filters 1040 and 1041; the log spam is getting to be too much. --Stay safe, ◊PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•A•C) This message was left at 02:54, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

SPAM REMOVAL without verification??
So instead of verifying that Salvation Anointed is in fact a Federally Registered trademark Cannabis Christian Ministry Service founded in 2008... just remove it because you were to lazy to verify the supplied website link for reference.
Appreciate the looking out for cannabis verified religious and spiritual cannabis use but that's my REAL job... google KANEH MOVIE, REVJC, SALVATION ANOINTED... then reinstate my post and if you feel it needs to be modified or edited that cool but removing without verification is just Wikipedia control freakage... no disrespect but check it out and verify sources before removing. Salvationanointed (talk) 00:35, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Salvationanointed: You should not be editing subject with which you have a conflict of interest Your edits were plainly promotional and unsourced. If you have some neutral, sourced content you'd like added, you can suggest it at Talk:Cannabis and religion. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 00:40, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
Ah so it was taken as self promotion... now that can be a conflict of interest. That is why I was replying ... my statements were not balderdash but summations yet because I was giving the information instead of a paid publicist or third party... I get that. The issue has always been staying out of public eye and serving for years... now that it is legalized I was sharing the historical significance. Yet it should have been through third party. Now that makes more sense... someone else should make the posts... thanks for the clarity and embracing my momentary frustrations with ignorance on wikipedia's process. Blessed be tree family Salvationanointed (talk) 02:57, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Salvationanointed: More or less but not just any "someone else." Specifically, you should just do whatever it is you're doing until mainstream academics or journalists write about you, and then someone with no connection to you reads those academics or journalists and writes about you. Don't go looking for third parties because if you contact them they're no longer third parties and the ones who would contact you are looking for money in violation of our terms of use.
