Request on 16:34:51, 13 July 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Icsteveoh

I would like to have a page similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_Geospatial_Center or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Department_of_Transportation. I don't understand why this agency isn't applicable. What steps can I take to have a better chance?

Icsteveoh (talk) 16:34, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

  • Hi Icsteveoh the pages you mention also have similar flaws. I can't speak for the other editors who have worked on them, but I've tagged them as needing third party sources. As a tertiary source, wikipedia is built on secondary sources; no document written or published by an agency can be a secondary source of information about that agency. Look for press coverage, review articles, etc. Stuartyeates (talk) 20:09, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, I've gone and done that. Icsteveoh (talk) 20:34, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
What you need to be looking for is significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Passing mentions are not significant. News articles based on press releases (or built around quotes from employees) are not independent. You're heading in the right direction though. Stuartyeates (talk) 00:25, 14 July 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Stuartyeates,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Request on 29 September 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by LarsHolmberg

Hi! I tried to reply to your declining of the new draft for Locust earlier, but somehow it ended up on MY talk page instead of yours. Because I didnt hear from you, I tried to resubmit to get your attention, but then the article got blocked instead...

I'd like to know more specifically what your objections are and how to alleviate them. I have also found another source from a peer reviewed publication that I could add and work in to the article to further support notability.

I dont know how to auto-generate this post so I've copied the source from another one on your talk :) LarsHolmberg (talk) 07:42, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Stuartyeates:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1800 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:25, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I saw that you've marked Hun clan as reviewed. The original article is available at Hun. It's possible that the creator might be a LTA trying to insert a Gurjar POV into various articles about kings and clans. I've taken the step to file an SPI for this. It's important to note that the sources provided in this article only make claims. – DreamRimmer (talk) 03:19, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Request on 03:07:42, 2 November 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Cd634011

Hello! Any help regarding this article is much appreciated. Both reviewers do not seem to be seeing this as a scholarly book, which has different requirements for establishing notability compared to other types of books.

I have made edits to include over a dozen additional secondary references from sources that are independent of the book's author. These include references to textbooks, other academic books, and papers from other fields (e.g., neuroscience, education, economics) that use work featured in the book.

This is a highly specialized academic book, so I used those guidelines for notability per the "Academic and technical books" section of this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(books). The book was published in Routledge's Scientific Psychology series, which is a prestigious series that includes books by well-known and respected figures in mathematical psychology, such as Duncan Luce and Louis Narens. Books in this series normally undergo multiple levels of peer review. The audience for this book is relatively narrow, as mathematical psychology is not a large field. As a tenured professor in Experimental Psychology, I believe it to be an important contribution and have used Chapters from the book in my graduate seminar in Cognitive Psychology.

Please also note that while many of the original references are connected to the book's author, they are all from peer-reviewed journals and thus have undergone review by other experts in the field. These references are not independent of the subject, but they are in-depth and reliable, and they are important to demonstrating how the work in the book has been scientifically validated.

Cd634011 (talk) 03:07, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Notability is always about secondary sources on the topic. To be honest, I'm not seeing the secondary sources here. Stuartyeates (talk) 03:27, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

But how cna this be fix? ~~

Hi.

Regarding: Draft:Exeger Operations AB

In your opinion, are the following references accepable in a Wikipedia article?

  1. https://www.epfl.ch/labs/lpi/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/M_Grtzel-research-achievements-and-their-social-economic-impact-June-2021.pdf (page 8 and 9)

I also would like to understand the part of your comment about "press releases and the company's research publications". I have removed such references from the draft. Which ones of the current/remaining references apply to you comment?

Thank you for your help.Regards,

Postcard from the Coast

Postcard from the West Coast

Wednesday 8 Nov, 2023

A bit of a gap since the last postcard, but what a great time we've had with the Wikipedian at Large project in the interim • The highlight has been having Marshall and Lyn join me on the West Coast for a few days, visiting Fox Glacier and Whataroa • We now have good photo collections for the newly-created Waitangiroto Nature Reserve, and a a much improved article with galler • The Whataroa article has been improved with local history and links to the White Herons • We also have much better coverage of Fox Glacier, including new Ngāi Tahu viewing place Te Kopikopiko o te Waka, and photos of Te Weheka Walkway/Cycleway and the South Side Walkway/Cycleway • Could I get you all to check back through your contributions and add anything extra you've done to the [Progress page as we wrap up • Also—I'm hosting a catch-up meeting on Sunday November 12, 2:30 pm, online at my Whereby chat room. This is a chance to go over anything you'd still like to see improved, talk about how the project went and possibilities for future ones, and announce winners of prizes for most or best contributions. Drop me a line at mike@rove.wiki if you can make it (or can't but have ideas about the project) • Thank you all for your contributions, however small, and chat soon. — Giantflightlessbirds

Draft:List of 250 most-backward districts (2006)

What do you think is the copyvio at Draft:List of 250 most-backward districts (2006)? I agree the list is copied from the source but as it's alphabetically listed by state and district, that doesn't seem to be creative (and hence not a copyvio - Wikipedia:Copyright in lists#Copyrightability of other factors). Nor does the choice of districts appear to be creative but is a factual list based on calculation (see Wikipedia:Copyright in lists#Copyrightability of content).

I can see a straightforward decline of the draft for notability but not as a copyvio. Nthep (talk) 13:37, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi Nthep. I differ on whether the choice of districts is creative (politics is always creative), but you're right it may not be a copyvio. You're welcome to add a note that it may not be a copyvio and give another reason instead. Stuartyeates (talk) 18:25, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Thx. I've made a note and re-declined the draft as lacking notability. Nthep (talk) 19:28, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

This Month in Education: October 2023

Dear Stuart,

Thank you for your interest for this physics topic. You write using a template

>This article is written like a personal reflection, personal essay, or argumentative essay that states a Wikipedia editor's personal feelings or presents an original argument about a topic. (October 2023)

  • Could you please explain this remark? The topic of car speed and energy usage is part of European high school basic physics, and in the Netherlands played a role in policy discussions of reducing the maximum allowed car speed to lower CO2 greenhouse gas production. (The day time max speed was reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h.) This is simply hardcore 18th-19th century very classical physics about kinetic energy and friction from physics books, so no, no, there are no personal feelings or original arguments here. Would that i had discovered this...

Please your reaction, thank you, Hansmuller (talk) 08:02, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

User:Hansmuller: The note I posted was unrelated to the content of the article. The note that I posted related to the structure and formatting of the article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and all articles are unified by consistent style and formatting. Particularly the first part of this article needs to be recast. There are a whole list of rules at WP:MOS, but usually it's easier to find a similar / related article and see how it's structured. Stuartyeates (talk) 19:31, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Dear Stuart, thank you for your reply and suggestion. You suggest Particularly the first part of this article needs to be recast. What can i do? A similar article is Drag_(physics). Perhaps you don't want a summary and a simple calculation at the beginning? Formatting? Can you be more specific? The enormous - quadratic - energy consumption at higher speeds is essential knowledge for car drivers, right?

Hi Stuart, Thank you for taking the trouble to review my draft.

I have a clarification question about your comment: "Most of the refs don't appear to mention the subject."

Do you mean the references to scientific literature? I don't understand this comment yet, because the subject "Ampersand" is mentioned in three references. These three are the seminal articles on this topic and are peer-reviewed academic work. The hyperlinks in my draft refer to other Wikipedia contributions, so readers can find further explanations for such terms as they see fit. In this way, I did my best to make everything traceable and verifiable.

So, I suspect I don't fully understand your comment yet. Could you please elaborate a bit, so I can adapt the draft in the right direction?

Would you like me to include a language definition? Or examples? I'd be happy to, even though the very first hyperlink in the draft points to https://ampersandtarski.github.io/, which is the authoritative documentation of Ampersand.

I'd really appreciate some more clarification on your comment.

User:Stef joosten Articles need to be based on secondary sources with in depth coverage of the topic. Sources from the authors of the programming language aren't independent. Sources which don't mention the programming language don't have in depth coverage. Stuartyeates (talk) 09:28, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
Dear Stuart,
I have improved the article on the citations. However, we still have a problem: Ampersand is a small topic in computer science. Therefore, there are no in-depth sources in which I don't participate.
I dare dispute, however, your conclusion that the in-depth secondary sources are not independent. The secondary sources that are scientific papers have been reviewed by independent academics in scientific conferences and journals. Most notably the international conference on Relation Algebraic Methods in Computer Science (RAMiCS), which boasts a thorough and independent review process. Surely, those sources are not questionable or unreliable. This is precisely why Wikipedia does not forbid self referencing; it leaves room to scrutinize self-referencing critically.
The problem is: Your refusal means that well-established scientific results in small niche-areas are unpublishable on Wikepedia, even when based on solid and acknowledged research results.
So please reconsider the paper with the improvements I have made. If you still find it wanting, I have to rest my case with deep regrets on my side.
Best regards,
Stef Joosten Stef joosten (talk) 08:00, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Encyclopedias are tertiary sources, that is built on secondary sources. Secondary sources in an academic context are review articles. You are welcome to re-submit the draft for review and get a second opinion on this. Stuartyeates (talk) 19:47, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Draft about Zula Globe

Hello, can you help me to edit my draft https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Zula_Global? Thank you for suggesting me to use independent sources. For this reason, in addition to the official sites of the game, I also wanted to report some newspaper articles and a famous player of the game. Unfortunately, however, apart from this information there is nothing else online, since it is just a game and not, for example, historical facts. Could you help me by specifying better what you mean by "indipendent sources" about my case? Thank you for helping me! Rassolino (talk) 07:44, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Independent sources are a key requirement for having a wikipedia article. I had a look in google and there didn't see any. If none can be found, you're not going to be able to get an article accepted. Stuartyeates (talk) 09:38, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing my submission List of California political scandals. As to your points:

TOO MUCH BOILERPLATE: The boilerplate here exactly matches the boilerplate on the article List of Alabama political scandals which has already been accepted by Wikipedia for publication. But I agree with you. Each of the paragraphs is an answer to previous editors who could not seem to find a definition of ‘scandal’.

OLDER CITATIONS: Absolutely. I have citations that go back to 1857. I did not use them because some editors have argued this article is too long. They think it would not fit on a modern cell phone! I therefore censured myself, but could easily add more citations, if it will be accepted.

PUBISHING WITHOUT REVIEW: Perhaps I should be talking to the editor who approved List of Alabama political scandals. He mentioned there is a way for published authors to publish again using create articles yourself, but I’ll be damned if I can figure out how. So I submitted this at Articles for creation which led to Article Wizard which led to you. What am I missing? Johnsagent (talk) 03:07, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Request for guidance

@Stuartyeates A draft (Draft:Odisha Urdu Academy) submitted for review was declined with reasons. Now that I've removed a lot of content against wiki rules, is it worth re-submitting now? I will resubmit if you guide me; otherwise, I will try to improve. Khaatir (talk) 07:16, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

It's hard to say. There's an excellent source at https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bhubaneswar/urdu-academy-put-on-the-backburner/articleshow/54707661.cms . I suspect that there may be more sources in Urdu (this being an Urdu Academy after all). If you can find one or two more articles like that in Urdu, the article will qualify for inclusion. Important points are (a) published somewhere reputable and (b) those involved with the Academy are not involved in publishing the article. Stuartyeates (talk) 07:21, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
@Stuartyeates I have made corrections to the best of my ability, added reliable references, and omitted unnecessary detailed material that is not covered by secondary sources. I have resubmitted for review. Khaatir (talk) 03:35, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Draft:Sport Inside

Hello. Could you take another look at Draft:Sport Inside? I added the Expand German template at the top. The German version of the page, which has existed since 2010, has the sources you requested, but I'm not able to translate them. Thanks. - Richie2023 (talk) 17:37, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Their own website is not independent and IMDb is a website that anyone can edit. These are not suitable. Surely there are some German-language sources? Stuartyeates (talk) 18:18, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Draft:Exchange_Job_Definition_Format

Thank you for the suggestion to "steal" some references from https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exchange_Job_Definition_Format (which is a published article). The principal German author of that page has added several of his sources to our English page, and says we have more sources than he does.

Question: We believe we had addressed all the "reliable sources" & "primary source" complaints, with updates and several secondary sources added, yet the article was declined once again.  Do you have any thoughts on how best to clear complaints and get this article published?

Thanks again, - Jim Jmekis (talk) 21:14, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Draft:International Comission for the History and Theory of Historiography

Dear Stuartyeates,

You have recently reviewed the proposed article on the International Commission for the History and Theory of Historiography (ICHTH), Draft:International Commission for the History and Theory of Historiography. I am grateful for your effort and interest. To my regret, however, you rejected the submission, leaving the following reasons for rejecting the article in my talk page: 'Wikipedia articles require reliable independent secondary sources with in depth coverage of the subjects. I'm not seeing significant independent secondary sources on this org. A quick scan in google scholar isn't helpful either. If decent sources are added to the article, feel free to ping my talk page once you've resubmitted the article for review'.

I must clarify from the outset that ICHTH is not an association that produces scientific historical information itself. Therefore, a scan of Google Scholar will necessarily disappoint. In the Constitution of ICHTH (https://www.ichth.net/constitution) it is stipulated that ICHTH “promotes the study of theory of history, history of historiography, philosophy of history, historical methodology, and historical culture. It encourages debates and exchanges among different approaches to the above subjects of study.” In short, it is a global platform where philosophers of history and historiographers meet, in essence to promote scientific historical knowledge worldwide  - a purpose, indeed, that is at the heart of the Wikipedia project itself.

Let me now show you that ICHTH is worth a Wikipedia entry from both a quantitative and qualitative angle.

I have just googled 'International Commission for the History and Theory of Historiography' and found 22,100 results, including, for instance

- Wikipedia's own article on Historiography

- The web page of the International Committee of Historical Sciences: https://www.cish.org/index.php/en/members/international-organisations/

- This page from the Huizinga Instituut. Netherlands Research School for Cultural History: https://www.huizingainstituut.nl/working-group/theory-of-history/

- A newsletter from the Wesleyan University, Conn., USA: https://newsletter.blogs.wesleyan.edu/2018/03/30/kleinberg-lectures-in-france-elected-to-historiography-commission/

- The page of the Centre for Historical Culture, University of Rotterdam, The Netherlands: https://www.eur.nl/en/eshcc/research/centre-historical-culture/general-information

- A book chapter published by Bloomsbury in the United Kingdom, quoted in the proposed article: https://books.google.com.br/books?hl=pt-BR&lr=lang_en%7Clang_pl&id=lcAAEAAAQBAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PA165&dq=%22ichth%22+%2B+historiography&ots=ySvMTymuAC&sig=EmK35ugc8D5zQ0r91gsf1Yy-GL4&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=%22ichth%22%20%2B%20historiography&f=false

I think the list already suggests that the ICHTH is not as invisible on the web as the review might have assumed.

However, there are other ways than internet frequencies to assess the relevance of an academic organisation like the ICHTH. Longevity, global representativeness, the prominence of its members within their fields of study should all somehow be included in the assessment. The ICHTH is a 43-year-old academic association. It is an official member of the International Committee of Historical Sciences (https://www.cish.org/index.php/fr/membres/information/?pdb=508), the world’s umbrella organization for historical sciences, but it functions completely autonomously just as the 70 or so other associations affiliated to the ICHS do. ICHTH is made up of leading university professors and researchers from all over the world, many of whom are considered important enough to have their own Wikipedia pages. For example, the Board of the ICHTH (https://www.ichth.net/board) consists of 13 members coming from 12 countries ranging from Canada over Nigeria to China and Australia. And its list of honorary members includes names such as Natalie Zemon Davis, Hayden White, Romila Thapar, Georg Iggers, Peter Burke, Joan Wallach Scott, Jürgen Kocka and Frank Ankersmit - a quick glance at their Wikipedia entries will confirm how important they are/were not only for the theory or history of historiography, but for historical studies in general.

Judging relevance will be unfair if we limit ourselves to the mechanical application of criteria designed to prevent spurious self-promotion or marketing strategies by profit-driven people and companies. And if we think in terms of longevity, representativeness or prominence of members, we will easily find Wikipedia articles on organisations of all kinds that would rank below the ICHTH.

So, in light of the above, I would kindly urge you to reconsider the decision to reject the article. Thank you very much for your attention. Aoaassis (talk) 09:12, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Answered at Draft:International Comission for the History and Theory of Historiography. Stuartyeates (talk) 17:35, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Yes, where to find these sources? That is the problem. ~~ ~~

If sources are the problem, I had just listed some good ones above, attesting that the organisation exists and is recognised in its field. To the attentive and not ill-disposed eye, that should have sufficed. Such a pity that it has not. Aoaassis (talk) 07:06, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Close reading will reveal I said 'in depth coverage of the subject.' I don't see that n any of these sources. You're welcome to resubmit to get another editors opinion. Stuartyeates (talk) 08:14, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Request on 10:32:55, 8 December 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Ruslan Sharipov

In comments to my draft article you wrote "We need independent sources". Please let me know, (1) you need independent sources for existing content or (2) you need extra content with independent sources. If (1) is the case and if you need independent sources for the section "Institutes and Departments", would it be OK to remove this section or maybe I could find independent sources for some items in the list and keep these items removing others and thus making the list incomplete? Please which option is better? Ruslan Sharipov (talk) 10:32, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi Ruslan Sharipov. Right now the draft has a wall of sources, almost all sourced to uust.ru. Wikipedia, as a tertiary source is not built on what people say about themselves (primary sources), but what independent third parties say about them (secondary sources). You need to be looking for in-depth coverage, not database / ranking websites or recycled press releases. Look for coverage in region news sources. Coverage of sports teams can also be useful, if independent. You also need to include the Russian name(s) after the English names, so other editors can easily search for sources. It is possible that this newly established institution does not yet have the coverage to meet our criteria, but I don't speak/read Russian, so I'm not sure. Stuartyeates (talk) 18:27, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
I've remove half the content based on primary sources and approved it based on the other sources. Also tidied up the other two articles. Stuartyeates (talk) 18:44, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of List of Colorado political scandals

Hello Stuartyeates,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged List of Colorado political scandals for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want List of Colorado political scandals to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Resubmission of GRESB article draft

Hey @Stuartyeates, thanks for your comments on the first submission of the GRESB article. To address your feedback, I have added two new secondary sources to the article (see source #5 and #17). Additionally, source #7 and 11 are both secondary sources. As such, I have resubmitted the article and hope to hear your valuable feedback soon. Thanks again for your time and effort. ESGBencher I suggest that opinion pieces, things with associated people in the byline and attributions of data sources are not indepth coverage. Stuartyeates (talk) 18:19, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for your continued dialogue on this proposed page, @Stuartyeates. While I know I put a few sources that are opinion pieces to explain some additional context (I'm happy to remove them if that is helpful), the main sources I mentioned above were written by third parties with no association to the organization, so I think they should qualify based on the criteria. Again, thank you for your support as I get more familiar with contributing to wikipedia. ESGBencher (talk) 10:16, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Draft article rejection - Stochastic survival of the densest

Hello Stuartyeates,

Thanks for reviewing my article. I received the following feedback from you: "The academic paper at the core of this article has been cited only 3 times. This is not what notability looks like."

May I kindly ask you more constructive suggestions rather than only pointing out this? Is there any way I can improve the article, or the simple fact that the paper has only three citations (so far) makes the page I wrote not even worth being considered? Thus, we cannot communicate science unless the topic is "popular"? Any suggestion would be really appreciated.

I would like to underline that the paper was published only one year ago (yet, on a journal with impact factor of 11.1 in 2022), and describes a very specific topic. Also, the issue of clonal expansion has been puzzling researchers for years (as you might have seen from many of the references I cited).

There is a huge gap between society (non-scientists) and science in specialist journals. As a scientist, the effort I was doing in writing this article was trying to bridge the gap with the knowledge I have acquired so far and a non-scientific user.

Many thanks in advance for your feedback! Ceciliafruet (talk) 21:06, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Ceciliafruet: Wikipedia is a tertiary source, it needs to be based on secondary sources. The universe of knowledge that never makes it to secondary sources cannot be mentioned by tertiary sources such as wikipedia. This concept does not qualify for inclusion in wikipedia; yet. Come back once the paper or concept has significant coverage in secondary sources. Stuartyeates (talk) 21:09, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Draft:TETRA_Mobile_network_codes_in_ITU_MCC_region_2xx_(Europe)

Thanks a lot for the review of my draft page @Stuartyeates . Your comment has been: "I'm seeing zero in depth coverage in secondary sources.". I´m not sure what you are referring to. I guess you say that the lists created just are referenced by the regional regulators and their publications and you would require additional sources on top of this? Is my understanding correct? This process would be different to existing handling of e.g. Mobile_network_codes_in_ITU_region_2xx_(Europe), which reflects the same source handling as I applied to my draft. I appreciate your feedback on this in advance! Maedula (talk) 14:10, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

As a tertiary source, wikipedia must remain silent on subjects without secondary sources. Without this, we're not an encyclopedia. Stuartyeates (talk) 21:13, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Request on 03:09:44, 25 February 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by AWolfSpider

The message left as the reason for taking down the article I wrote said there were sources on google scholar I could use instead of ones cited. I checked google scholar prior to writing the article and there are no relevant sources. The species of spider that was the topic of my article does not have much information so I don't know how to go about finding better sources. AWolfSpider (talk) 03:09, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

AWolfSpider (talk) 03:09, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

If I were writing the article I'd be including at least 5-7 of the hits from google scholar in the article. Pretty much everything that isn't just a passing mention. No need to remove existing refs though. Stuartyeates (talk) 06:31, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Your userpage

[[ Hi, just a question. The redirect on your user page leads me to a page which has as the only text "To enable the newcomer homepage, visit your "Newcomer editor features" settings in Preferences. Return to Main Page." It's your user page, so if that was the intention, no problem, but perhaps you thought we would see something else? Fram (talk) 08:25, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi User:Fram. I've been playing with Special:Homepage, which is a relatively new innovation from the WMF. It appears to interact poorly with redirects and not-logged-in users. To be honest, I'd prefer WMF fixed their stuff. Stuartyeates (talk) 09:33, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Stuartyeates,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

The page <name> has been reviewed.

@Stuartyeates and @Utopes I would like to ask for advice. I have a lot of notifications and many of them are "The page <name> has been reviewed."

However, some of the articles that I created did not get that notification. Kurk Lietuvai is one example, but there could be more. Did I do something wrong or should have done something better?

I am asking you two, because you seem to be very experienced editors and some of my “reviewed” notifications have your nicknames next to the them.

Best regards,
Frequently.by.train (talk) 15:59, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Frequently.by.train. Page review is one of of the quality control processes here. There is a high backlog, but there are occasionally backlog drives to get the numbers down. As far as I can tell you've done nothing wrong. Stuartyeates (talk) 10:41, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

Thank you @Stuartyeates!
I had another look at my notifications and the page mentioned in my example seems to be the only one (of those that I created) without "reviewed".
What difference on/for Wikipedia does it make if an article has been "reviewed" or not? Does it in any way indicate lower quality, if it's not reviewed? I tried to make one as good as I could, so this would be a gut punch. 😅
Best regards,
Frequently.by.train (talk) 15:16, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
Frequently.by.train I'm sure there's a statistical difference in quality, because there are a few odd things that get caught in review, but being unreviewed is not a bad thing. All my new pages are unreviewed when I create them, and I've been here nearly 20 years. Stuartyeates (talk) 04:56, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

White Bluffs AVA article submission.

Regarding the citations. The first citation is the federal TTB which is the regulating agency approving the AVA creation and all their documents are public domain. The next two secondary references are the WA Wine commission and local news. What references would make this article acceptable? The article's content and structure is similar to other Wiki articles regarding AVAs.~~ Fb2002 (talk) 06:58, 27 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi User:Bf2002. I assume you're talking about Draft:White Bluffs AVA? I stand by what I said in my decline. I suggest you investigate what a secondary source is (hint, press releases are not even contenders). You may wish to ask for help at Wikipedia:Teahouse. Draft:Internationalist Communist Tendency

Hi, this entry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Internationalist_Communist_Tendency) was declined again because "all of these sources appear to be from related parties". However, this is not the case, as the works of Bourrinet, Leonzio, Bourseiller and Peregalli are all examples of independent coverage. Some critical coverage has also been added since. Could you look at this again? Errant1905 (talk) 16:17, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi User:Errant1905, I'm not particularly familiar with this area, you might need to find someone who is familiar with the area and the sources to approve this for you. Sorry. Stuartyeates (talk) 09:55, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

Martyns of Cheltenham

You have added a Peacock tag to my article on Martyns of Cheltenham but have given no explanation or justification. Would you please let me know why you have done so. TriodeFollower (talk) 14:27, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi, can you please link to the "Martyns of Cheltenham" article or draft you're referring to? I'm not sure... Stuartyeates (talk) 08:23, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) - H. H. Martyn & Co., found by looking at the user's contributions.-Gadfium (talk) 09:05, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
User:TriodeFollower the problem appears to be that much of the article is sourced to 'a personal account' by the founder and inappropiately carries over the tone from that. Phrases like "Despite the lack of family involvement," and "he could little have imagined that during his lifetime" etc. aren't encyclopedic. Stuartyeates (talk) 09:50, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your explanation. I will think about how to correct my article in the light of your comment. TriodeFollower (talk) 07:41, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
