User talk:Sting au/ArchivesSpeedy Deletion Sound Factory The BandI posted this because this is an important band in Italy and member Julie P. co-wrote the song "Quelli che ben pensano" by Frankie_Hi-NRG_MC, it is in her biography, #3 in charts in 1997 and received as best song in 1997 the Music Italian Award (PIM). The album she produced, La Morte dei Miracoli in 1997 published by BMG sold til now like more than 400,000 copies. She is one of the old school hip hop producer and well respected and known musician/singer in the soul/jazz italian ambient and also collaborated with Mike Stern, the jazz guitarist. Reply to Sting au for SPEED DELETION Sound Factory The BandSorry but well the band is important and soon will play live also with Mike Stern. Plus if the band wouldn't be important that great musician wouldn't have recorded 4 tunes with them. Also they are on battle of the band's website, there is link and allaboutjazz.com is another good reference. There is a link there too. So here they are 2 reliable sources. Wikipedia - CzechInvest notability tagHi, sorry to bother, it's just that I'm not entirely sure about the notabily tag - the subject of the article quite an important Czech agency (Im too shy to write an important Central European player in attracting foreign direct investment). And at least its similar to entries like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InvestUkraine or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SARIO . So... umm.. shall I delete the tag or the whole article..? Minor but interesting details. In the case you mentioned - did you ever wonder what happened to those huge Passenger Pigeon nesting sites that are mentioned in old texts? It is very hard to find any information even on where they were. Now I happened across this old report in Wilson Bulletin volume 18 pages 47 and on ("WilsonBull18:47" in shorthand), which briefly mentions that several roosting (and possibly nesting) sites were in Seneca County, Ohio. The Passenger Pigeon article does not discuss nesting locations in detail, so this single brief source (actually just a single sentence) cannot be comfortably added... yet. But as the article progresses, such information will become relevant, and now the source is on record and can be added when needed. See also here for journal title abbreviations. Pigeon articlesHi Sting, after checking a couple more pigeon breed articles I had come to the same realisation and was going to revert the changes anyway. Sorry for the inconvenience. Cheers. Maias (talk) 22:55, 4 April 2008 (UTC) Aviculture/Pigeons TaskforceHi Sting. Would you be interested in joining an aviculture/pigeons taskforce as part of the Birds Wikiproject? --OnorioCatenacci (talk) 18:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting, Yes, it was proposed to make a subproject and personally I think there's enough material to justify an aviculture subproject, and a pigeon subproject below that. I guess you're right; we could create a subproject--just seemed as if it might make sense to do a taskforce first to see how much response we get. --OnorioCatenacci (talk) 23:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting, Hope you don't mind but I filched your pigeon fancier user box. :-) I think it would make most sense to either create an "aviculture" subproject and then a "columbiculture" subproject below that or to directly create a "columbiculture" subproject below the bird project. What do you think? --OnorioCatenacci (talk) 23:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC) It may help us to get an aviculture subproject off the ground (pardon the pun) if everyone that is interested in working on it expresses their interest here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Aviculture --OnorioCatenacci (talk) 09:47, 9 April 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting--thanks for that edit on the Pigeon_keeping article. In fact, I think we should heavily refactor that article. Rather than rehash what I said, maybe you could take a look at the Pigeon Keeping Discussion page. --Onorio (talk) 19:23, 9 April 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting -- I understand about the Category stuff but I thought aviculture basically covered any domesticated bird--including pigeons. I mean I know it covers Parrots and other hookbills but I also thought it includes poultry and pigeons--as I said basically any bird that mankind has modified from the wild type. Am I misunderstanding something? --Onorio (talk) 12:36, 10 April 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting. I guess it comes down to how one understands the term "aviculture". And, yes, as I've seen it used here in the US it pretty much refers to cultivation of hookbills. So I guess in that sense I agree. But I got the impression that the project Snowman was promoting took a little broader interpretation of that term. Either way, I think you're right because I think that most people who are familiar with the term aviculture associate it with hookbills.--Onorio (talk) 15:31, 10 April 2008 (UTC) Hi StingThanks for I all you done for me. I don't think we need a project to improve the pigeon articles--would just make it a little easier to coordinate effort is all. I know I'm intending to keep on improving the pigeon articles as best I can and I know you are too. Speaking of the pigeon articles there are a few subjects about which I'd like to hear your thinking:
I look forward to hearing from you and continuing to work together to improve the articles here regarding domesticated pigeons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by OnorioCatenacci (talk • contribs) 11:21, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I forgot to sign my last message. I'll read over your responses and if I have anything intelligent in response, I'll respond.--Onorio (talk) 19:03, 11 April 2008 (UTC) You're correct about the copyright issues but I wouldn't think it would be difficult to secure permission to put those standards on the web. I would think a bigger issue would be reliable sourcing for history and such. And if we were to simply reproduce the breed standard, it'd probably make about as much sense to simply attach a pdf file of the breed standard that people can download. Maybe we could look at what the dog and cat fanciers have done (assuming they've done anything with Wikipedia) and use that as a sort of template. As far as a digital camera and access to pigeon shows, I've got both but the show season is pretty much done over here till October or so. There's also the issue of securing permission to use an image of a pigeon that you don't own. I don't know what the copyright laws say about that sort of thing so we need to research that too I'd guess. --Onorio (talk) 21:44, 13 April 2008 (UTC) Youtube link removalHi. You recently removed a just-added Youtube link from the honey bee article; that same editor has added that link or similar ones from youtube to several pages now - on the whole, they do seem relevant to the articles that they were added to, so I'm wondering what WP policy has been violated by the link, and whether the other additions need to be removed as well? More Pigeon Article DiscussionHi Sting, I'd also like to start developing articles regarding certain pigeon publications. Magazines (both in and out of print), books (The Pigeon, J C Lyell's Fancy Pigeons, Moore's Columbariaum), and key people related to pigeon keeping (Wendell M. Levi, William Pensom, Willard Hollander). I had a couple of things I wanted to ask you:
I am interested in your thoughts on this Sting.--Onorio (talk) 22:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
That was a good addition to the pigeon keeping article Sting. --Onorio (talk) 01:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC) German Pigeon Club LinksHi Sting, I noticed you added an alert that those two links I added were in German (thanks for that, because I didn't realize I needed to identify that) and I noticed you mentioned something about footnoting them later. I'm not sure I'm following you--why do they need to be footnoted? If someone doubts the veracity of what's being said they can just follow the link. Or am I missing something? --Onorio (talk) 15:18, 19 April 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting, thanks for the fix up. I think I've improved the situation with the cites regarding the German pigeon clubs in the Pigeon keeping article but take a look and see what you think. --Onorio (talk) 01:29, 21 April 2008 (UTC) Australia-New Zealand relations is ACOTFAustralia-New Zealand relations is the new Australian collaboration. I would however request Sting that he dose not allude to The Stinger Report as "amounts to email spam", no matter meant as a question, this can be taken the wrong way. In answer to your last points:
You have to understand that we created this page as a number of Wiki pages / categories (Exergaming, Simulator Rides, Video Arcades etc.,) are using quotes, links or direct cuts from the Stinger Report and we felt a pages was needed - it would seem weird that they can use our material but we are unable to have a page. Finally I am concerned that because of the size of the amusement media scene we are used widely by the trade and have a established track record, but are limited to references other than our work being used by everyone. I notice our industries largest trade journal (RePlay) has not been given a Wiki entry because it only has its reference. Is this the case for Wiki entry, as I feel uncomfortable to a possible exclusion of amusement trade? Stingerreport (talk) 01:58, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
The Stinger Report is circulated to over 10,000 subscribed and verified email addresses over six times a month. Subscribers can sign up at the web site or approach the Stinger directly. Just wanted to give you a heads up.--Onorio (talk) 22:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC) Loft vs. Coop: I've heard them called "coops" far more than I've heard them called "lofts"--by several different pigeon fanciers. Maybe the word "coop" to refer to the pigeon house is a more American usage. If you asked me what they're generally called here in the US, I'd say "coop". You can revert the wording if you like but I think the difference is mostly semantic and honestly, I hear (and have heard all of my life) them referred to more often as a pigeon coop than as a loft. Since I have heard them referred to both ways, I used the word "sometimes" to indicate that pigeon fanciers use both names (so far as I know). I mean, as far as I know fanciers in the UK and Scotland refer to them as cotes or crees (I've seen that word used for pigeon houses in several articles in newspapers in the UK) and certainly that would allow for a name other than "loft". I had pigeons for several years in my youth and I've had them again for about 15 years as an adult so I am also speaking from some experience (as I know you are). Upon further reflection, I guess the word "generally" would be more appropriate in this context. I'll leave in my remarks above for whatever they're worth but I think you've got a valid point on that issue and I'll revert that wording. Maybe you can fix the Levi references so that they are named and yet they also retain the page numbers. That's what I was trying to achieve (adding proper page numbers to the references, I mean) and when you name them only the first page number is referenced. Try it in the sandbox and see if I'm wrong--I may be missing something. To me, it's more important to keep the page number in the reference than it is to have them all named with the same name. Perhaps there is some other usage of the ref tag that might be appropriate in this case? As far as I can tell, they're not all referring to the same page of "The Pigeon" so I think it's more appropriate to list them singly. I think the correct case would be for them all to have the same name only if they're referring to the exact same source (down to the page I would think). I would think that if we want to get Pigeon keeping to Good Article status we need to reference specific page numbers in books where it's possible. Again, if I've misunderstood something, please feel free to correct me.--Onorio (talk) 00:46, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I hadn't really had time to respond to your last message. As far as I'm concerned whether or not that Pigeon keeping article ever gets GA status or FA status, I want to make it as useful as I can for novice pigeon fanciers that may need to use it for reference. I would like to make it sufficiently rigorous such that it can be recognized as a GA or FA but the main reason for being rigorous is for my own satisfaction as a person who cares about propagating knowledge. If a novice fancier has a question, what's the harm in putting the page number in The Pigeon in the citation so they can find the relevant text in the book if they care to? I guess it comes down to the question of who is the audience for the articles. I don't see where there's a huge conflict between making the articles useful to novice pigeon fanciers and still fairly accessible to a non-fancier. I can see your point about a separate notes section since so many of the citations are from The Pigeon. I guess I'll work on putting in a notes section soon. --Onorio (talk) 01:27, 26 April 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting, I expect you've got the page on your watch list but in case you don't I put a note on the pigeon keeping talk page. Hi Sting, Pigeon keeping has been submitted for review. If nothing else, hopefully some good comments will come out of it to help us to better tune the article and get it closer to GA status.--Onorio (talk) 21:20, 5 May 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting, Ok--I mistakenly thought that the folks in the Bird Project would be able to mark the article GA. Thanks for setting me straight on that. And looking at the stuff for GA status, I can see you're very right; it still needs a lot of work. So I think I'll try to get some time to work on it a bit more in the next couple of weeks before I submit it for GA review. Thanks again. --Onorio (talk) 21:42, 5 May 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting, please let me know what you think of the latest edits when you get a chance. I added a bit to the introductory paragraphs. I removed the section on "Disciplines associated with pigeon keeping" because even though we know that it's true, I can't think of a single written source to support the statements I was making. And I added a section on commercial pigeon keeping. That part is little more than a stub at this point, of course, but I think it's germane to the article and certainly something that should be covered in the article.--Onorio (talk) 00:10, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Judy MoranTo be honest I have little real interest in the subject or the whole "underbelly" "Melbourne crime war" thing. I just thought that keeping the article was the obvious end to the discussion and I was puzzled to see the AfD end in deletion. I raised the issue with the closing admin for clarification, especially as I generally have a great deal of respect for Bduke's judgement in these matters . If you take it to DRV, I will support overturning the decision on the basis of my message on his talk page but I have no real interest in improving the article. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 23:17, 6 May 2008 (UTC) Sorry mate, didn't see the citation there. :) Anyway, I'd like to restart the push to get pigeon racing to at least GA status. I'm still kind of feeling my way around about what happens to identify the articles as being within the realm of the domesticated pigeon task force. I also notice there's an article on Cher Ami (which is very cool). Maybe we could work on getting it GA (although it looked pretty strong to me already--maybe they just need to schedule it for a peer review or something). --Onorio (talk) 23:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC) Hi Sting,

I think that both Cher Ami and GI Joe are certainly germaine to a discussion of domesticated pigeons because they're both an important part of the history of domesticated pigeons' service to mankind.--Onorio (talk) 01:53, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

TumblerThis is a tricky one - I assume, incidentally, that it is never Short-faced? The convention is that unless a proper noun, only the first word is capitalised. However there is an exception, due mainly to strong resistance from WP:BIRDS, that individual projects can vary this, and all bird species are fully capped. Now, breeds are species, but List of pigeon breeds caps throughout]], so I'd be inclined to go for it and make sure you put the project box on the talk page. jimfbleak (talk) 06:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Pigeon stubsI just noticed that the work we do is very similar. You work on Pigeon articles, including breed stubs, and I do sheep and chickens. After reading a good selection of the articles from List of pigeon breeds, I have one suggestion. In the first sentence of the breed stubs, I think an alternative approach would be better. Rather than saying that "...is a breed developed over many years of selective breeding", which is common to all animal breeds, instead state the obvious by something like "the Example Pigeon is a breed of fancy pigeon originating in Exampleland." Talking about where it came from, or perhaps the purpose it was bred for (i.e. if it's a racing pigeon or a utility) is more helpful to someone like me that knows next to nothing about the species than pointing out the obvious, that a breed was bred. Good luck, VanTucky 02:17, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
The PigeonHey there. Looking at the pigeon group at the bird wikiproject, I noticed one of your goals is the creation of an article or something involving the book The Pigeon by Levi. Is this book very rare? Because the Powell's in my neighborhood has a pristine original copy for $35 bucks. I'd be happy to buy it, and maybe we could work out a way for you to borrow it. VanTucky 19:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC) Pigeon InfoboxHi, I do not have a book to reference for the breed grouping for the English Fantail in the US. I never had to provide a book reference to anyone here because we all know that it's in the fancy pigeon group. My dad has the US NPA standards book and I'm sure I could find the fantail and which group it's considered to be in in that book but I'm not sure that it will be explicitly stated there either. It's simply common knowledge among people who raise pigeons in the US--fantails are in the fancy group and when a best fancy pigeon is picked at a large show, the champion fantail is considered too. I backed off the alternate breed grouping anyway. While we're discussing the topic of breed groupings, maybe we should modify the infobox to contain at least those three major organizations as part of the template: Australian NPA, US NPA, and the EE (which is the overarching org in Europe). The EE puts fantails in the "Structure Pigeon Group" which is different than Australia or the US. I backed off the German name for the breed but I thought it was appropriate to add the German name for the breed because of the name of the jpg file you're using in the infobox. I thought if someone did an edit on that infobox they may want to know which language that name Pfautaube.jpg came from. That's the only reason I added that alternate name. --Onorio (talk) 23:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC) Here's what I'm sort of thinking of (I'm not the world's best with templates but hopefully this will give you the idea of what I'm thinking of)

I know this is a bit after the fact and it's probably unimportant but I did want to let you know that I think I understand your point of view a bit better because I thought the same thing as I'm sure you thought--"Who cares what the German plural is--this is WP in English". I would still like to figure out some way of capturing the information about the different breed groups in different major areas of showing pigeons but I haven't come up with anything better than our last discussion and even I can see some of the flaws in my proposed approach. US Breed GroupsHi Sting, I thought you might like to know that I recently borrowed my dad's copy of the NPA standards book. While many breeds are still in the "Fancy" group, others that I would have guessed would be fancy are listed in other groups (for example--"Rare"). I don't think the groupings in the book will affect the two articles to which we've added those infoboxes but I'll double check. I'm fairly sure they (the NPA) are working on putting together a new standards book and I know I've heard discussion of them adopting the EE breed groupings but unless and until that happens, I guess the current breed standards book should be considered authoritative on this point. Oh and while I'm thinking of it--do you know of a guideline regarding references for the stuff in those infoboxes? I mean, is adding a reference to a book or article about--oh for example, the original country of a particular breed--is that considered bad form?--Onorio (talk) 13:55, 16 July 2008 (UTC) IofferHi! protection of Origin of religion
Please get up to speedSting au, please do not revert edits to the vandal version that Muntuwandi's socks are promoting. If you think there is worthwhile content there collect it, and think about how it can get integrated into Origin of religion and come back in a week to that page when protection expires and edit constructively. There is a history here that you are probably unaware of, but I'm giving you solid advice. Trust me.PelleSmith (talk) 11:18, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Some information for youLet's run through what's happening with origin of religion and related articles. There is a user -- Muntuwandi -- who wanted a particular version of the page to be created. He edit-warred over it and is now banned, at least in part due to the huge number of sockpuppets whom he created to edit-war with him. This has been going on for some time. I became involved when PelleSmith filed a request for checkuser attention regarding the case. I have mass-reverted his socks -- I have no opinion on his contributions. My only reversions have been to remove the postings of a banned user, as is permitted under policy. To explain the extent of this, I have blocked 39 sockpuppets of Muntuwandi. Alison has blocked a few more. The page is protected because blocking the users has made no difference. I am hoping that protecting the page for a while will make him go away and stop edit-warring and socking. The article "evolutionary origins of religion" has been deleted as it was the creation of a banned user. This is one of the criteria for speedy deletion. I am not an involved admin. I have no opinion on the article -- I haven't really read enough of either side's version to have formed an opinion. I don't know what "abusive email" you have received from PelleSmith. My personal suggestion is that you ignore it. If you want to pursue it further, dispute resolution is that way. If you have any more issues to raise, please do. The archive bot removed some threads of conversation from the Pigeon Task Force talk page. I've fixed up the references for the archive link at the top of the page. Hi User:Sting_au: you could use {{oldid}} to point out old versions of a page if you think they have content worth a merge. Might be helpful if you're planning to merge several active pages together, that sort of thing can be a bit of a moving target! Well, or you can just use the "permanent link" item directly, but {{oldid}} does the same thing prettier. ;-) There has been so much "churn" on these pages that I think nobody knows what's what anymore, so referring to static versions will probably help if you're wanting to clean the thing up. It's usually considered anywhere from "recommended" to "required" to try some other form of dispute resolution before the Arbitration Committee:
There are other things available on Wikipedia:Dispute resolution, but the Arbitration Committee are pretty much the slowest and least efficient one of them (no offence to any Arbitrators reading!) :-) --tiny plastic Grey Knight ⊖ 16:17, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
As I understand CheckUser (User:Sam Korn can verify this, but I think it's right), the system isn't just for "is user X the same as user Y", but provides enough information that even alternate accounts not listed in the original check can be spotted. For example, there have been several cases where a RfCU has been made for "please check if user X is user Y" and a UserChecker has been able to come back and say "yes, and is also user Z and user W". Given the number of times User:Muntuwandi has been CheckUsered (lots), it seems pretty probably that, if he was a "Bad Hand" account of another user, it would have been spotted. It is generally futile to speculate on the exact way a CheckUser request is carried out of course, which aren't generally made available for sensible reasons. But the UserCheckers are generally quite competent. You could email Sam Korn if you had specific concerns you didn't want to air in public (although bear in mind that there are very strict rules on what CheckUser information can be given out, ever) but other than that I would consider it fairly safe. Now if we could just get User:Muntuwandi to concentrate on persuading other users to support him rather than continually undermining himself... --tiny plastic Grey Knight ⊖ 09:47, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
By the way, you mentioned on User talk:Sam Korn about "another administrator", but if that referred to me then I should point out that I'm not one! :-D --tiny plastic Grey Knight ⊖ 14:19, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Alexandra PowersHi Sting! I need your help in writing a article about a not very well-known actress nameed Alexandra Powers. What I do know about her is that she was born on 9 September 1967 in New York City and her birth name is Alexandra Kristin Powers. Her first role came in the TV film The Day After. She also had a small role in Mask (with Eric Stoltz, not Jim Carrey) and the TV series L.A. Law and 21 Jump Street. After DPS she starred in The Seventh Coin opposite Peter O'Toole and had small roles in The Player and Rising Sun. In 1994 she played Tonya Harding in the TV movie Tonya & Nancy: The Inside Story. Other roles have been in Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing, the Walter Matthau / Jack Lemmon comedy Out to Sea, and the tv movie Storm. But since 2001, she has devoted her life to Scientology. Here are refrence links to what I know about her: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0694490/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0694490/bio http://www.filmreference.com/film/56/Alexandra-Powers.html http://www10.pair.com/crazydv/weir/dps/cast.html http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/viewtopic.php?t=24302. Sounds good. By the way... what is CSD? Also, I notice Addison has an article about The Addison Courier... a local newspaper that is no longer active. However, the article on that paper stands... as it does have a reference to the Lenawee Country Library. It just so happens that there are copies of our actual school newspaper on file at that same library... if I were to use the same link to that library (for a school newspaper article) as is in the article for The Addison Courier... would my school newspaper article then become legitimate enough to stabnd alone? I acccept that it is certainly borderline trivia, but it seems to me useful to link a relatively unusual food to one or more instances when it appears in the 'real world'. I'm not a big fan of long lists of trivia on articles, but I do think that linking an article to other related items is helpful, and not irrelevant. I would NOT support linking the "Fish" article to the "Fish in a Drawer" episode, but it seems different to link the "Squab" artivle to the "Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab" episode, due to the rareness of squab and the specificity of the episode. 91.125.241.15 (talk) 14:24, 16 November 2008 (UTC) Mark

Dja Dja WurrungThanks for your feedback. I have been trying to get the Victorian Indigenous articles up to scratch for a while. I started off concentrating on the Wurundjeri, and have broadened my scope to documenting the various language groups/nations of Victorian Aborigines - a large and fairly specialised job, including drawing the Map of Victorian Aboriginal Tribes. The Dja Dja Wurrung are the second language group I have tried to bring up to a reasonable standard. I think I am nearly finished the Category:Dja Dja Wurrung for the moment - a visit to my local library supplied some great reference texts. I might leave John Stuart Hepburn for the moment, perhaps you may care to start it? I am going to concentrate on Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner who lead a rebellion in 1841 in westernport and Gippsland, and were the first judicial executions in Melbourne.--Takver (talk) 01:39, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
