You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:47, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In a July/August 2010 policy discussion (at Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not/Archive 34#Does WP:NOTMYSPACE apply to secret pages?), community consensus was that the policy Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not prohibits secret pages. Would you tag the page for deletion with {{db-userreq}}? Thank you, Cunard (talk) 08:20, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. It's been awhile since I've looked at most of my subpages, will tag most of them. Thanks for the notice! §hepTalk 00:12, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Asia Society.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Would you please understand that the logo falls under WP:NFCC and that you have added an incorrect copyright tag to the Commons image page. I will continue to revert your edits as they violate WP:IUP. I will copy my comments from the Commons talk page below, so that you may see what I mean. ShepTalk 22:34, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copied from commons:File talk:Geocaching Logo even newer.svg

The page I linked to 1 explicitly states: "Any reprinting, sublicensing, copying, modifying, publishing, assignment, transfer, sales, or other distribution of the Groundspeak Geocaching logos contained within this website or any other website is strictly prohibited without the prior written consent of Groundspeak. The user shall not copy, reverse engineer, translate, port, modify or make derivative works of the Groundspeak Geocaching logos without express written permission from Groundspeak." Yet the CC-by-SA copyright tag you have applied states that: "You are free:, to share – to copy, distribute and transmit the work, to remix – to adapt the work" This is in direct contradiction of Groundspeak's own terms. This makes it ABUNDANTLY clear that the file is not cc-by-sa or ANY OTHER free license. Therefore the image in non-free and not suitable for Commons. In case this is still not clear to you I've bolded the text in question. §hepTalk 22:23, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Nova logo.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Nova logo.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:43, 22 October 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:43, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

gary Larson Photo

I don't see why this photo is not OK per wp:NFCC this policy does not seem have any requirements about the author being alive or dead. Voiceofreason01 (talk) 20:39, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It falls under point 1. This point is elaborated at WP:NFC#UUI, point 1. ShepTalk 16:14, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can I just clarify - do you actually believe that this is a photo of Gary Larson? I'm thoroughly confused. Since it is obviously not him, and is a "real life" representation of his work, why do you believe it falls under that category?[1] a_man_alone (talk) 22:42, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, I do not believe that Gary Larson is a plastic doll. The image, on the other hand, is being used to illustrate the subject (Gary Larson). The subject could be adequately illustrated using an actual photograph of him. Given that Larson is alive it is conceivable that a free use picture could be taken of him. Therefore there is no need to use a non-free image within his article. ShepTalk 02:35, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, the image is not being used to represent him, because it's not him. It's being used as a visual representation of his work - just as the image before was.[2] It is conceivable that a photo could be taken, but whether such a thing has come to pass is another matter. a_man_alone (talk) 09:26, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
a_man_alone's objections aside; I think I understand, thank you for clarifying that for me. Voiceofreason01 (talk) 16:46, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Med

Hi

I'm contacting you because, as a participant at Wikiproject Medicine, you may be interested in a new non-profit organization we're forming at m:WikiMed. Our purpose is to help improve the range and quality of free online medical content, and we'll be working with like-minded organizations, such as the World Health Organization, professional and scholarly societies, medical schools, governments and NGOs - including Translators Without Borders.

Hope to see you there! Anthonyhcole (talk) 05:07, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.svg)

Thanks for uploading File:Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:06, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have an OTRS request to change this flag. The request is not very specific, but it does link to the UN exhibit, http://www.unesco-ci.org/photos/showphoto.php/photo/4690/title/the-original-flags-of-the-west-indies-federation/cat/920 which seems to have a slightly lighter blue, and a much redder orange. In other words, it looks more like what the original was, before your color change, but even redder than that. Any objection? Would you be able to do it yourself, as my SVG editing skills are non-existent? --GRuban (talk) 19:47, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, it looks like it was probably a graphics lab request, but the archive doesn't go back that far. It's just adjusting a number in two lines, so a change is easy enough. Do you have hex values to change it to? ShepTalk 04:08, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Found the original request, funny to me that the same UNESCO image was mentioned when the colors we asked to be changed... Everything comes full circle. ShepTalk 04:25, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, everything does come around.
I see that request was based upon the colors in this site, but I just processed an OTRS request from someone associated with the archives in Barbados who claims that the orange is correct, and offered this as a better site. He also sent in a photo of the actual flag form the archives which supports the orange.
I uploaded File:Federal flag West Indies Federation.jpg, but it is a jpg, not an svg. and I see the other image is used many places. Any chance you could revert the svg image to the correct colors?
I'm an Inkscape neophyte, so I don't really know what I am doing. I see you are semi-retired, so I apologize for asking, but this image File:Naval Ensign of the West Indies Federation.svg is also affected.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 18:28, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ouch, you are indirectly referenced in this TED talk. I hope we can sort this out, and turn lemons into lemonade.
Caution, Christopher says it wasn't properly color balanced, so it looks too red in that video.
Feel free to watch the whole thing, but the reference to the Wikipedia version is early on.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 20:28, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the colors to match the rbvex site. Are those okay or should the colors match the image you uploaded? Once I know which color combination is preferred the other image is a quick fix as well. ShepTalk 00:35, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that looks much better. I asked if the person knew the Pantone number of rgb values, but he did not. Thanks for the prompt action.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 00:58, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently someone else was attached to the previous blue. If you need any more changes please feel free to let me know. ShepTalk 01:07, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know whether you fixed the ensign version or that came along for the ride as a derivative, but that's looks fine (to me) as well. I asked the local expert to opine. I hope to hear back in the morning.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 01:17, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm planning to write to the West Indies Federal Archives Centre. I've attached my draft, but you know more about image specification than I do, so I hoped you could review it before I send it out.

draft wording
padding

Hello,

I hope you can help us. My name is Stephen Philbrick, and I am an editor and administrator on the English Wikipedia, plus I volunteer to help answer questions from the public.

Recently, someone wrote in to tell us that the colors on the Flag of the West Indies Federation were incorrect.

In fact, that gentleman talked abut the problem in a TED lecture, available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWWb7vA8HfE

You may be familiar with that lecture, but if you are not, you may find it very interesting.

I've tracked down that the incorrect colors came from a website called Flags of the World

http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/FLAGS/gb-carib.html

I wrote to the owner of that website, who confirmed that there was some difficulty tracking down the exact colors of the flag, so he confirmed that the original source was not reliable.

I've arranged to have the colors changed, but the there are still some questions about the colors in the current version which can be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_West_Indies_Federation

The main question is about the color of the sun, and whether it is orange enough. A second question is about the blue, which I have seen as this color, and also in a lighter shade.

In some cases, flag colors are specified in legislation, with reference to either Pantone colors, hex color or RGB values. If we get lucky, you might be able to track down whether the colors were specified in legislation, which I would hope you would have in your archives.

If that isn't the case, as a second best option, we could match the colors to a photograph of the flag. I understand that you have the actual flag in your possession. While Christopher Laird provided an image, it was taken form a distance, and not a close enough shot to identify the colors clearly.

If someone would be willing to take a close-up photo of the flag, we could match the colors very closely, also the best option is to use the colors as specified in legislation.

Yet another option is to inquire with the manufacturer of the flag, who may have the colors on record, but I do not know who manufactured the flag.

I'm hoping you can help with this, as Wikipedia images are used by many people, and we would like to make sure the colors are correct.

--SPhilbrick(Talk) 17:29, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That looks reasonable. Failing proper legislation the color issue is going to end up being subjective, but good luck looking for an answer! If you get one please let me know and I'll swap things around. ShepTalk 18:06, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll let you know if I get an answer.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 18:27, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:OHSAA Logo.png

Thank you for uploading File:OHSAA Logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. GrapedApe (talk) 00:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What's your reason for the undo? It's pretty clearly their logo now. --Kchinger (talk) 13:52, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the SVG to the new logo, then removed the lower quality image. If you don't see that the SVG is now the new logo there might be an issue with either your cache or Wikipedia's. See the updated source in the image file infobox for where I extracted it from. ShepTalk 15:07, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, I thought that might be it since the file points to the new one but the picture still shows as the old one. Thanks. I'll try clearing my cache. I guess it'll show up right soon.--Kchinger (talk) 15:12, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think the problem is that the 200px version which you're referencing is still the old version. You can see this if you go to the file page and click on 200px. I forced cache refreshes for both wikimedia and wikipedia domains and it didn't change. I don't know how the file stuff works very well, but I think that's the problem. How do you make the different size versions? The larger versions are correct, just the 200px is wrong still. Thanks for your help. Kchinger (talk) 15:31, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why that's happening. Maybe a server is out of sync somewhere? I would expect it to correct itself eventually. I'll check it later today and if it's not fixed I'll ask some other users. ShepTalk 16:11, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)

The Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.

  • Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
  • Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
  • If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)

About the Chicken Breed Infobox

Hello, sorry to bother you, but I cannot seem to get the infobox's ABA information to show up on the article page. The APA classification will display though. I do not know much on the subject of infoboxes, so perhaps I'm doing something incorrectly? As the Crow Flies (talk) 12:26, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, wow. Forgot about that one! Link me the article and I'll see if I can help. ShepTalk 16:44, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the link to the Polish article, though I have had this problem with the ABA section in general. I've been attempting to add the infobox to the appropriate articles that are still lacking it (or correct it where it was added, but most of the information was not filled in). Thank you! As the Crow Flies (talk) 21:35, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Infobox changed quite a lot since I made it. It's using {{Infobox animal breed}} now. Either way it looks like the classification labels in the template weren't named properly. I changed the Polish article, does it look like what you wanted? ShepTalk 22:46, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you, it looks perfect! How exactly did you do it? You said its under a different format? That would explain some of the problems I've been having. (Sorry I forgot to add the indentation before.) As the Crow Flies (talk) 23:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It was this diff The template had the line |classification1_label = ABA but then had a bunch of blank |classification1_label = So I just changed the numbers as documented in the Infobox animal breed template.(apparently the overloaded |classification1_label = was causing the template to render improperly) ShepTalk 23:20, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I think I understand now. I thank you for your time! As the Crow Flies (talk) 23:49, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your inactive bot(s)

Hello Stepshep. We currently show that you are the operator on file for at least one bot account that appears to be inactive. Please see the discussion and list of bots here: Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard#Inactive bots over 5 years. If you are no longer operating your bot, no action is required - your bot will be marked as retired and have the bot flag removed. Should your bot be retired and you wish to revive it in the future, please request bot authorization at WP:BRFA. The article Medina Cable Access has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Better source request for File:Lima Stadium.jpg

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 15:57, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
