Thank you for your support of the Medicine Collaboration of the Week.
This week Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was selected.
Hope you can help…

I have left some ideas on Talk:Pectus excavatum. Obviously finding a good source that everyone can access is a priority, and I think the Crump source qualifies to a large extent. Given that you nominated this for MCOTW, would you be able to send an email to the author of PMID 15619190 and see if he will release a PDF of his review to a few editors? JFW | T@lk 09:47, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic. Curious about the reaction! JFW | T@lk 15:51, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you heard anything? I found a different email address in a more recent paper, so I've chased it with another email. JFW | T@lk 22:31, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tag?

I was curious by this tagging by ReedyBot. Here. Maybe you can put this concern in the appropriate place. SpencerT♦C 22:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's from when the issues first arose. The cats have been resolved but there's till a lot of mistagged articles. There was a few interloping categories under Category:Ohio that linked Ohio with Louisville and a lot of Pittsburg articles as well. As I see the bad tags I just try to remove them. Thanks for pointing that one out. §hep¡Talk to me! 03:22, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was assessing articles yesterday, and stumbled upon this one, so if I find any others, I'll remove them. Should I tell you about any others, or just remove them? SpencerT♦C 13:50, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly there's so many, it doesn't matter that much. A lot of them are in:Category:Unknown-importance Ohio articles, and it's a process to get through all 7,000 of em. Thanks for the help! §hep¡Talk to me! 17:16, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't matter how many there are...assesment is important to the project. When I check the pages, I can also check for vandalism that hasn't been caught. SpencerT♦C 17:19, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, no, no. I need to be clearer in my writing. I was referring to alterting me about the mistagged articles. Assessment is very important. §hep¡Talk to me! 17:21, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Stepshep. You have new messages at Wubzy's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

{{helpme}}

Regarding the edits you made to Template:Helpme, you completely defeated the purpose of the parser function. By adding |template|, you made it break on all user talk pages. This is an intricate template, and should only be edited if you have a good understanding of parserfunctions. I know you meant well, bur frankly I knew what I was doing, and purposely did it the way I did. You may find Meta's guide to ParserFunctions helpful, as I did. Happy editing, --FastLizard4 (TalkIndexSign) 06:31, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know the warning is a little tacky, I will refine it today. As for it being already there, I asked like 3 administrators on #wikipedia-en IRC channel, and they didn't have any complaints. It simply caused too much confusion on the help channel, as the bot reports any page in the category. And, obviously, the message built into the template hasn't done too much to help the situation. --FastLizard4 (TalkIndexSign) 20:31, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the vote of confidence, so far editing had been fun- but a bit overwhelming. I really don't know where to start. My real question is should I focus on contributing to a small group of articles at first or simply jump in and add as I come across something that seems lacking? Also, how can I learn more about the technical aspects of editing, such as what symbols will produce what results in the shown pages? Thanks Wickb55 (talk) 08:07, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Really article editting is up to you, there's no rules when it comes to that. You might be interested in SuggestBot if you need some more editting ideas. Where ever you can help is always appreciated. As for the symbols there's a cheat sheet at WP:CHEAT whcih I found very helpful. You can always do test edits at the Wikipedia:Sandbox.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Greater Falmingo (Band), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Greater Falmingo (Band) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Greater Falmingo (Band), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Re: Project banners

So the idea to create another project banner may be unacceptable because it may affect the way the old one works which I read in another discussion. At first, I didn't think there are any rules regards to that. I find that some wikiprojects have more than one userbox, icons registered users can place on their user pages to emphasize their membership to that project. So, I thought the same principle would apply to project banners. Wubzy (talk) 00:04, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:helpme

Yes, that was okay to send me a note. In the future, if a blocked user uses the {{helpme}} template, then ask them to wait for the {{unblock}} template to do its job. They shouldn't be using the helpme template. Regards. Woody (talk) 13:07, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ShepBot errors

Your AWB bot edits just made two errors in subst'ing: [2][3] I'm not sure why it detected that they needed to be subst'ed. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:02, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Found one more that shouldn't have been done [4] and another two probably shouldn't have been done [5][6] -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:06, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's odd, it should have stuck to the user space... I'll have to take a look at that. As for the others in the user spaces, if they would have used an ignore or nowiki format it would have skipped over them. I guess the user could also user the {{nobots}} template, but they may be of inconvinience to them. If the all had a specific keyword on them I could skip them over then as well. User spaces are tricky, but it should have stayed out of any other namespace. §hep¡Talk to me! 19:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aye okay, fair enough. I see your point, I was just annoyed at his reaction to me attempting to help him out. It is my honest opinion that he is an "ungrateful little swine". Lady Aleena's future

Stepshep...Several people have expressed an interest in my next probable nomination for adminship. Messaging people when it happens would look a lot like canvassing, so I would prefer not doing that. If you are interested in it, you could add this to your watchlist. If it is created, you will know, maybe even before I do depending on how often you check your watchlist. If you wish to gush prior to it being officially up, have fun, but only when it happens please. I am in no particular rush. Have a very nice day! :) - LA @ 10:07, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

==WikiProject Ohio Newsletter==

Issue II - May 2008
From the editor:

Here's Issue II of the project newsletter. We're trying to decide if this is sinking or floating. If you would like to contribute to next month's newsletter please jump right in at the News Desk! Have a great May.

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.

Chicken breed infobox

There are some problems with the traits chosen in your test template for chicken breeds:

  • clutch size isn't a part of breed standards, and generally isn't touched upon in sources.
  • heights are not generally ever recorded in exact measurements for breeds, only weights.
  • There can be dozens of colors for a single breed, so there is often too many to list in an infobox.
  • Skin color is an important factor in determining breed.
  • Egg color is another important one.
  • As is the type of comb is has.

I would suggest removing or adding the ones I mentioned, and checking the color to make sure it is both web safe and not in conflict with any of the colors used in other taxoboxes. Good work so far! VanTucky Vote in my weird poll! 22:13, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The most widespread system of classing is that used by the American Poultry Association's Standard of Perfection. The few exceptions are those bantam breeds only recognized by the American Bantam Association. But the general rule is that it is either recognized by the APA or ABA, or unrecognized entirely. For recognized breeds, they are broken down in to one of six classes:

  • American
  • English
  • Continental
  • Asiatic
  • Mediterranean
  • Other breeds

Bantams are classed not be region (most breeds have a bantam version, but some are true bantams, meaning they are all small). They are: Game, Single Comb and Clean Legged, Rose Comb and Clean Legged, All Other Combs and Clean Legged, and finally the Feather Legged. Confusing enough? :) Here is the APA site's explanation. I'd use the above, as you only have to change the template in one place! It is "lazy", but its also good programming practise. There was also a }} missing from the end Reedy 10:28, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sorry I turned off your robot. I did not really mean to, I was just experimenting. I have nothing against you or shepbot, I actually think they are quite cool. And I am not a vandal! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dudemeister1234 (talkcontribs) 04:10, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re. AWB Custom modules (C# 2.0)

I've replied on my talk page. If that answer doesn't help, WP:BON is a good place to ask, I think. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 01:26, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AWB Module

It should already be compliant, AFAIK. I know the code for my bot, Bot0612, is, and that is based on this code. If it isn't working, point me to the page(s) in question that it is choking on and I'll investigate.

<blatant advert>If you want my bot do handle any large-scale WikiProject-tag related stuff, just drop me a line. Check its contribs for evidence that it won't blow up!</blatant ad> RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 07:59, May 29, 2008 (UTC)

Bot0612 uses a modified version at the moment, which only adds the |class= parameter to articles, not the template, as this is what the bot was designed to do. Adding the template as well would be trivial to add however. If you want the code, I can post it here. (I won't clutter your talk page up if you don't want it, it's fairly big!) RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 19:53, May 29, 2008 (UTC)
Done, if it causes nuclear meltdown of your bot, give me a shout and I'll try to avert a complete disaster! Hope it's useful! RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 20:15, May 29, 2008 (UTC)

Ahhh dude you have no idea how helpful that is, thanks! :) I've copied and pasted it over from that page onto diagnoses. Thanks again! :D Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk?Sign? 20:20, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Wolf Hunter

I don't see how any one has a right to delete some ones work from here. Wikipedia is a Encyclopedia for people to gain knowledge about things in life, pop culture and things from around the world. The Wolf Hunter film it's self is a film that has lots of fans and supporters as does the character. I think just because its not as well known as Freddy or Jason does not mean it should not be on here. I have already seen that some one else has edited the article as well. I think that if this does go off its a shame and what kind of Encyclopedia for the people rob people from learning about films and characters from a independent film.

Moving pages

Hi, thanks for your message. I'm not sure, though, that I understand what you mean. I think you mean if I move a page and then change the redirect page to a disambig page, then I need to clear the Redirect talk page of projects. If it's a straight redirect like Orton Hall that I just did, then there should be nothing to do, right? Best wishes. clariosophic (talk) 03:48, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
