I have left a message on India Talk page regarding images for Ancient India, Medieval India, and early modern India, please do consider it as these image edits will be in good faith. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pebble101 (talk • contribs) 17:42, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
I have already supported increasing the number of geo pics in rotation, but most of the other pics you've posted are duplicates. I'm also having trouble with my internet connection right now, so it's taking me a long time to see anything, so any further comments will have to be later when this trouble of mine is solved. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff17:46, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your replay. There are no duplicates of Rock-cut Buddhist Art, Mauryan Empire pillars or emblem. As far as Bodhi Temple and Golden Temple i can move those images to Medieval and early modern era respectively, would that be okay? These edits will be in good faith as it will showcase best of India's cultural evolution over time. It would also be good to have some change in these sections as not much images has been changed since the page was created.
Right now, I would only prefer to edit images in period section, we can furter discuss about Geo & Bio some other time. Please do let me know if i'm allowed to do so. Thank You.small>— Preceding unsigned comment added by Pebble101 (talk • contribs)
Please don't do that. Like I've mentioned, the images have been chosen for a reason and we can not and should not let personal choices affect that as it would mean that the article will see no end of it. The images are also placed in those sections based on relevance. A better quality Ajanta image is already included, the only thing is the Mauryan pillar and clearly the quality of images on that is quite lacking. The article is a featured article and all images included have been reviewed stringently, most of them are either Featured Pictures or of comparable quality. Please wait for other people to chime in, there's no reason to rush things based on personal preference. —SpacemanSpiff18:12, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick reply. I understand your views regrading unnecessary edits. It's a downer that compared to others, our nations wiki page has failed to showcase best of our civilization in history sections. The images i have proposed is based on relevance of each period and their influence on all aspects of Indian civilization as whole. I do remember that image of rock-cut Buddhist architecture i have proposed was Featured Picture, I should be able to change the current low quality faded painting of Ajanta with Ajanta architecture then? If not then, what can be done to have some changes on this page? please do let me know, Thank you again for your quick reply! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pebble101 (talk • contribs) 18:51, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Pebble101, you don't have to link my name on my own talk page as I will get an automatic notification on posts here. Also, while on other pages it's better to use {{U|Username}} than copying the signature, but make sure that you sign your name at the end of the post, in the same edit, using ~~~~ or the notifications will not go. On the question of a poll, this format you have set up currently seems fine, if there is a bigger choice pool to be introduced, at that time we can just have a gallery and a separate area for people to express their opinions. I'm guessing you are still looking for better quality pictures? But be aware, this process can and should take a while, the last time we chose pictures for the article, it took about two months of discussions to settle on the current lot, so any change will likely not happen overnight in this case. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff17:18, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your informative reply, I have tried to find more quality images of Sanchi Stupa but it's limited and i have picked the best ones i could find from this period, which is good representation of architectural style from ancient India. Pebble101 (talk) 19:36, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I am actually confuse that what kind of sources are required ,can u pls give me an example of sites
which are correct according to you in every case such as in medicine, biographies of person and if I am editing places or monuments then what kind of sources.
Hi, I know that there is a long-standing consensus we do do not categorise people by caste (User:Sitush/Common#Castecats) and that you have been quite heavily involved in some of the CfDs concerning that. I've never fully understood why we do not do it, other than the potential for BLP problems, and periodically I wonder why it is we still categorise people as Dalit, given that it is effectively the fifth "caste". Any ideas? - Sitush (talk) 08:03, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Eh? "do do" has a different meaning, if my recollection of George Bush is correct. Struck and replaced - sorry about that. - Sitush (talk) 08:39, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
The caste categorization consensus pre-dates my time on Wikipedia -- it was already consensus before I started editing, so I haven't been involved in actually discussing it, just enforcing that consensus. utcursch might be able to help on that I think as he's participated in the relevant discussion. —SpacemanSpiff08:44, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
I don't remember if there was consensus on categorization of people in the "Dalit" category. But I'd say the categorization should be limited to Category:Dalit activists (if the person is notable for social activism involving Dalit issues) or Category:Dalit leaders (if the person is involved in Dalit-centered politics). utcursch | talk14:50, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
I've given an ARBIPA warning for now as it is quite appropriate given the behavior I've noticed. I see that NeilN is adminning the page and is monitoring all activity, so I'll defer to his judgment on anything here (also since he's on more than I am!) —SpacemanSpiff14:46, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Actually, I'm just about to go away for a few days so another pair of admin eyes on that talk page would be helpful. Ciao! --NeilNtalk to me15:03, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

I think it might fail NLIST, but I rarely pay attention to these. Though it looks odd in its current form, at least it should be converted to a functional list like bibliographies etc. Perhaps a merge of the "better known" and the "lesser known" might be in order. —SpacemanSpiff15:08, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
@SpacemanSpiff: I am glad you replied me fast. I'm having a little difficulty understanding the word "soapbox" in your comment. I was wondering if you can please explain how this page will be classified into that category. Thank you --Vamsiborra (talk) 16:23, 11 August 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vamsiborra (talk • contribs)
Please see the linked page --WP:SOAPBOX, what you've been doing at that article is adding unsourced promotional content. See also WP:BLP which is about how biographies of living persons should be treated. Only add content that can be sourced to reliable sources. —SpacemanSpiff16:49, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Oh, I know, but sometimes bugs creep into the category tree as I'm working. Regarding R. K. Narayan: he appears to have been classified as "English" at some point in the past before I got to the article, and that's what's led to the confusion. Thanks for the corrections, and if you come across any others that look wrong please feel free to fix 'em up. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.05:06, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao: I think the lack of disambiguation in the tree is confusing, so people assume that English means English language here and add them (quite honestly, it took me months to realize this too!) cheers. —SpacemanSpiff05:22, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Could be. I try to fix things up as I come across errors, but something always falls through the cracks - thanks for spotting me. :-)
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao: I think one possibility is to create the English-language equivalent categories (they exist for some, but not all) but I think "Indian male English-language short story writers" is a mouthful and is probably a waste of category real estate at the bottom of articles. I'm just creating the Indian equivalent of the people based cats, so maybe that might ease the confusion a little. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff05:37, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, that makes sense for India, and maybe a couple of other countries. But I can't think of many countries where English and another language share duties as the main language to such an extent that it would be necessary. I was thinking maybe a hatnote of some sort in the category space itself would be better, but it's late and my brain's getting ready to shut down for the night, so I can't think of wording. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.05:39, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
FWIW, a similar problem occurs with actors. Eg: there is a difference between someone who acts in Tamil-produced films/someone from Tamil Nadu who acts in films/someone who acts in Tamil-language films/someone who is an ethnic Tamil who acts in films. Categories on WP are often a complete joke, I'm afraid, primarily because there is no consistency of application in a taxonomic system that relies on consistency for its utility. I've said before that it really needs to be torn down and started again. Hatnotes in category space will not change things much, especially when HotCat is used so extensively - people do not actually see the category space at all, merely the specific entry. - Sitush (talk) 07:08, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
It'd be worse for Assamese as the people from the state are Assamese, the language is Assamese, the linguistic group is Assamese and so on. Same for Manipuri, Rajasthani, Punjabi, etc etc. —SpacemanSpiff07:20, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
I'll look at the main cat later today, then, and see what it says - that might be the route to go. Having said which, Sitush makes some points that I quite agree with. One of the reasons I do so much categorization is that I'm trying to bring some kind of consistency to the articles that do exist, and it doesn't always work. --16:09, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Spiff. Well, those are interesting footpaths, it seems to me. I've noticed that geographical articles on the subcontinent are fond of having all those transportation bits. I've always found that totally excessive. But walkies certainly are a means of transportation, but be careful that you don't do so in the Wrong Trousers. Drmies (talk) 14:28, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Doc, most of our village and town articles do read like railway and bus time tables. BTW, have you heard of the 11 number bus? Pretty much means the same as hoofing it, the 1 and 1 refer to the two legs that bipeds possess. In case it wasn't apparent, we're very fond of our buses.—SpacemanSpiff14:34, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Dear Spaceman, as per WP:CATGRS, gender categorizations are "non-diffusing," i.e., a male novelist should also be categorized as a novelist. So your cat-a-lot today is problematic! Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 12:20, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
I still do not understand that guideline and I still maintain that, assuming your interpretation is correct, the thing is plain daft and needs to be fixed. Still, since it is a guideline it can be ignored. - Sitush (talk) 12:24, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
The guideline makes sense Sitush. When somebody wants to look up Indian novelists, they don't necessarily think of looking up male/female novelists. I personally think gender categorizations are useless, but that seems to be an evil we are forced to put up with. But making them diffusing subcategories makes the problem worse. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 12:31, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Aiaiai. I found the reverse to be problematic when going through pages and therefore did this. But you look at Category:Indian actors or even Category:English novelists, both of them ignore this guideline (though the English novelists cat is only starting to ignore the guideline but it's 50% there). As it is we have a humongous load on the bottom section with every category in the tree going in there, so I thought this would simplify things. Eitherways, I'll stop now, I should never have worked on this cat stuff anyway, that's probably one of the most confusing areas in en.wiki and that's saying something. Personally I don't care for the male/woman thing, but I'd rather not have male this and then this and then why this and all those extra iterations of categories.—SpacemanSpiff12:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
I, too, think gender categorisations are generally useless except in some very limited circumstances (sports, mainly). We're stuck with it because of the current social engineering project being co-ordinated by the WMF and political activists who really are not here to improve the project but rather to further their own wider agenda. That said, I refer you to my post in the section preceding this: the entire cat system is an irretrievable mess and should be ripped up. - Sitush (talk) 12:39, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Actors and sportspersons are known to be two places where gender categorisation is appropriate. But writers, journalists, scientists etc. are not normally gendered. As for the Category:American novelists, the diffusing subcategorisation there is by period. All the people listed under male/female subcategories are also listed under one of the period subcategories. User:Ser_Amantio_di_Nicolao has been taking care of a lot of this stuff. So you can let him know if anything needs attention. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 13:07, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Writers are beginning to be gendered - I've done a lot in that arena recently, but I wasn't the one who began it; I've been building on the work that was done with American writers for the simple reason that other male-writer categories have begun to get out of hand and need to be fixed up somehow.
As to non-diffusion: I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it. I understand where its supporters come from, and I'm trying mightily in my editing to honor their wishes more and more (though I do slip up), but I don't think it's intuitive for new editors to think about. Or older editors, for that matter. That's a huge problem, to me - the rules should be clear and fairly easy to understand, and (as I noted above) I think categorization is becoming increasingly arcane. The period subcats throw another wrench into the machine - I'm not sure it's always clear they should be used.
No no no. "Gendering" can't be inappropriate in one area and appropriate in another. I see no reason why we'd gender sportspeople and actors but not writers--sure, many sportspeople participate in gendered competitions but not all do/did (think sailing and shooting, which until recently were not gendered at the Olympics), and why would actors be divvied up? I don't rightly know what "normally gendered" means. Drmies (talk) 15:32, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm not entirely sure what the right solution here is Doc. The issue came about because I saw XXX Writer, XXX Novelist, XXX male novelist, XXX short story writer, XXX male short story writer all at the bottom of many of these articles causing bloat of what should in theory be an easy navigational tool. This bloat of categories makes it dysfunctional, so I'd moved to just XXX male novelist and XXX male short story writer as the rest are at higher levels in the tree. Personally speaking I don't see the value of gender categorization unless there's some uniqueness to it, but it is what it is. Ideally, categorization should be done away with and we should use wikidata to provide matrix indexing, but until something like that is feasible (and then gets approval on VPP!) we have to live with this. BTW, Ser Amantio di Nicolao, do you think I should copy everything back to the "non-gendered" cats? —SpacemanSpiff15:44, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
I know the solution. To convince all male Wikipedians that they don't need to have a male category corresponding to every female category. How to achieve it? I have no idea!
@Drmies: What I meant by "gendered" is that gender has been recognized to have a relation to the topic. Please see WP:Cat/gender. I think the guidelines are well-thought out, but not everybody might agree with everything written there. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 16:36, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help this dispute come to a resolution.
Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you!
A case has been filed at the dispute resolution noticeboard by a filing party who forgot to notify you. Please take a look and see if my assessment is correct. It appears that an inexperienced enthusiastic editor decided that Rasgulla should be called Rasogolla, and did a copy-and-paste to create a duplicate article. It then appears, from what I can see as a non-administrator, that you correctly deleted the copy and created a redirect with the alternate name, and locked the redirect to prevent a new copy-and-paste. If this is what happened, then I think that everything is all right and that you did your job as an administrator. If so, the dispute can be closed. If I misunderstood, please let me know what really happened. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:33, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Robert McClenon, there's a dispute going on at Talk:Rasgulla (I'm not involved in that). That seems to have been the cause of this forking. I'd suggested that the editor use DRN for that discussion if they weren't able to solve it through talk page discussion -- the discussion is happening between three editors, so I don't know if it's premature or not, I'll let you folks decide that. —SpacemanSpiff02:46, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Am I correct that he made the mistake of copy-pasting the article? If he wants to discuss the primary name, he can, but having two articles is (as you know) against policy. Robert McClenon (talk) 04:20, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Robert McClenon, not the entire article, just part of it and part that he added but was reverted (if you see the article history you'll see what I mean). It took a while for me to figure out what was going on. Either ways, it's a dispute over multiple issues -- name, origin, dating, source etc and the fork was created to bypass (albeit as a quick and easy solution without an understanding of the issues behind such forking) that discussion. I think it might be best for them to continue that discussion at the article talk page, it looks like there are good sources being discussed and all that, just that there's some impatience. —SpacemanSpiff04:27, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Volunteer note:Snthakur, the solution to the issue is as follows;
Request a page move on the talk page of the concerned article. We cannot have two articles on the same subject.
It may succeed or it may not. In any case, for your content to be restored, you can ask the deleting admin SpacemanSpiff. (P.S. The content won't be restored to the namespace rather, to your sandbox or pages like this Talk:Rasgulla/forked content).
After which you can manually add the contents to the article. If someone opposes, discuss with them in the article's talk page.
Where exactly did I "It is now clear that you are editing certain pages to proxy for a topic banned/blocked editor."
Please prove that I am proxying or whatever you accuse me of.
And second, if you can see what's going on, the reference does not pertain to Lloyd Rudolph.

Hi, SpacemanSpiff. May i know the reason why has you deleted Yaseen Anwer's article? His previous article was deleted because it was created my some user MySelfAnwer. And other main reason for the deletion of article, there was less media reference given. This is why, when i created article about Anwer, I goggled and collected all the news references and cited properly. There is no doubt that person isn't notable as per Wikipedia's notability guidelines. But again, deletion of page was disappointing.--Jeeteshvaishya (talk) 07:41, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
The article was deleted at AfD, the new article did not address the concerns from the AfD, there were more links, but as was mentioned at the AfD the problem was that the event might be notable but he wasn't, and the new links attested to that. If you wish to dispute the AfD close, you can ask Davewild to see if this addresses the AfD concerns as he was the closing admin of the AfD. —SpacemanSpiff14:37, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
Copy of the message titled, "The naming of the article debate (Rosogolla) at Talk:Rosogolla"
Please be informed that there appears to be an error or, a careless mistake at Talk:Rosogolla page under heading "The naming of the article debate."
1. The first instance of the discussion, concerning a "Straw Poll" event, correctly spells the name of the article Rosogolla that states, "Those in support of Rosogolla please mention your support below…”
2. However, the second instance of the same discussion INCORRECTLY spells the name of the article and states, "Those in support of ! Rasagulla Please mention your support below, you can also mention a alternate name here….." The speling “ Rasagulla “ does not appeared to be intended.
3. The second incident of incorrect spelling makes the debate defective. Besides, the same might misguide and/or create confusion in a participants mind, yielding a undesirable result.
The above information is for your kind information and necessary corrective action.
Snthakur, please stop this repetitive spamming of your messages everywhere, it is getting to be highly disruptive. I've hatted that discussion asking you all to keep your comments to ONE move request location, why you can't understand that is beyond me. —SpacemanSpiff19:23, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Peridon, This is a Bharti mobile IP, so it's dynamic -- sort of like the BT IPs of UK, so a week wouldn't keep him quiet, might just inconvenience someone else if they happen to be on it but that's unlikely. Bots and archive
Hey, thanks for the help regarding template. Alazki helped getting it resolved.
I need a little help regarding bots and archives.
Can I as a wikipedia user create a bot? If yes how?
Also, can I archive discussions on my talk page? If yes, how?-- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo04:41, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
Capankajsmilyo, you will have to follow bot policy at WP:BOTPOL, there are quite a few hoops to pass through before a bot can be approved. For archiving your talk page use something like the following at the top of your talk page:
You can change 7d to however many days you want (it's no of days that a thread should have been inactive), minthreads left can be changed to however many threads you want left on your main talk page. I would suggest not changing anything else although you can change the archive size from 100 to something else too. —SpacemanSpiff04:52, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks once again. I read the page on bots and my purpose meets the guidelines. I couldn't get from that page how to create a bot. I was thinking of a bot for replacing Jain Scriptures and Jain Texts with Jain Agama-- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo05:34, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean by how to create a bot. If you mean writing the code to build a bot, then you'd need to have the technical skills to do that. BTW, I think you can get better answers for most of your questions at WP:Teahouse or WP:Help desk than from me, as those pages have experts in different aspects of editing. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff06:49, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
An editor has asked for a Move review of Rasgulla. Because you closed the move discussion for this page, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the move review.
Please take a lot. The user pops up once in two days, edits a random Mumbai related article, inserts Maharashtra into it [or removes Bombay] and keeps going. When I last left them a warning, they gave a long speech on their talk page (since it is not your duty to look at every edit, stop looking at mine). Of course I got this when I said it is not my duty to look at every page because they accused me of double standards in the first place. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 12:37, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

Chekottu Ashan, the content is same because the story is same. But its not word for word copy paste and not from a copyrighted material. Retrieve it and post it back. The article itself was linked to other articles, due to the importance of it. Same is the case with Thomas Mar Athanasius. I have seen the history of Chekottu Ashan, It was subjected from a egotistic contention that went far to Edit War. If you are looking for speedy deletion funk, go for Knanaya. It has the most perverted and misleading material as per the talk page. I stress re-write if you feel the article Chekottu Ashan (at least the content is true, this morning itself i looked a the article and saw some tags for weak grammar and all) or ask help from others in the community than practicing with speedy deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.213.17.18 (talk) 13:09, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
