Microsoft Visual C# Wikibook

Hi. I'm attempting to write a C# Wikibook in my native language and I could use some help organising the chapters and the material. Do you have any ideas? The following is what I’ve got so far. Of course the idea is to write about the programming language C#, but going briefly into the .NET Framework, the history of programming and what programming really is, is a must.

Sure, I would be glad to help. Anyways, going over the proposed TOC, I think, you are going a bit too deep into what programming in general is and its history. In a book about a specific language, I think it might be an overkill. And if you would like to constrain the topic, you would not be doing full justice to it. So, probably it would be better to make this knowledge a prerequisite for the C# book (you should delve a bit about what .net fx is though), and move the general bits to a different book. They are indeed available but I think it's easier for people to figure them out inside Con Apps than Win Apps, 'cause they don't have to deal with the presentation of whatever gives the result or outcome. If you're teaching someone how to put value into arrays from the keyboard I can only imagine it being more comprehensible through the use of the cmd which is generated for you than having to put buttons and fields on a form and have to program them and also know how methods and classes work, rather than just using ReadLine(). --Stefán Örvarr Sigmundsson (talk) 06:06, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will take a look. Thanks for bringing it to my knowledge. Probably the entire diagram needs to be changed. It was one of my earliest examples with Inkscape, and is extremely loud and flashy.

Group policy

Hi Soum... didn't realise this until now, but a user came around in April and renamed Group Policy to Group policy. It's pretty clear from MS documentation etc. that this is a proper name, so I don't understand the rationale for it, but I can't change it back to the proper name because someone edited Group Policy after the redirect. Edit to Microsoft Silverlight page, Criticism section

There has been for some time a criticism of Silverlight (by Ryan Paul) that it ignores the SVG standard. I've long felt this criticism is baseless and biased and appreciated David Betz' response to the criticism. Essentially, he points out that SVG doesn't do what Silverlight needs to do so Microsoft had to either do something else (XAML) or extend the SVG standard. It appears you removed the response in one of your cleanups. Could you explain why you feel the article is better after your edit? Take a look at the talk page and the archives. I have the same concerns as you do. The SVG criticism is basically a no-brainer. As such, it does not deserve to be reinforced by us. If you see I removed that too. And when it itself is not there, David's refute makes no sense. As such, I removed them both, plus a bunch of stuff. (I haven't checked the article for sometime; if it has been reintroduced, I cant say). If you can provide a better ref of SL ignoring standards (one that doesn't bring SVG into the picture), the Ryan Paul ref can be removed altogether. --soum talk 05:55, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your message...

Um, It was written in warnings above the article that A. the article was an unnessary rewrite and the guy just wanted to make his own versionn of the artcle and B. the guy was a foreigner and the article made absolutely no sense when you read it, because the grammar is terrible, therfor it was dubbed incoherent and deserved to be reverted especially sense it's not only unnessecary but its erroneous as well. In addition to that, the song sample given in the section was the wrong version, in fact it was a pre-version, something that didnt release to the public, but was a draft for the real thing, making the sample 1. inaccurate and 2. from illegal sources, because that unauthorized pre-version was illegally distrubted to alizee fans, including the poster of that song sample.

Be Civil and respect other editors or I won't hesitate before blocking you. I never accused you of anything. This is a collaborative medium, and you do not own the article. Anything you do, you must be able to explain why. You did not do it properly.
You say it was an uncecessary rewrite. Did you care to explain why it was unnecessary? Especially when the necessity was already mentioned in edit summary (that it was just a loose collection of facts and unmaintainable in the long run). If you think thats not enough, you have to point out the problems. Secondly, if the grammar had flaws, you should have pointed things out. There are many editors who fix it. Plus, considering the album just released, the article is not yet stable and lot of rough edges is to be expected. Undoing is not a solution. Things are to be taken forwards, not backward.
That apart you said things were erroneous, but claiming that means nothing unless you say what. Stuff has been sourced from articles, if something is missing or based on old info, please either add or modify. Not revert. And the album cover was taken from the official website, you mean to say RCA is illegally using the album cover? As for song sample, the undoing did not revert the song sample. So, undoing did not fix it. And as long as the sample reflects the original how does the source matter?
Things here work on consensus. If you go against it, fingers will be pointed at you. The version is the work of consensus. As I already said, if something is wrong, it can be fixed. FOLLOW UP REPLY: Regardless the song is still an illegal copy. The sample was from an unedited, unmixed draft and was distributed for no commission accidentally and illegally. It should be taken off according to law. Wikipedia is very strict about infringement here, you should have taken that sample of fin a heartbeat.

Windows CardSpace

Just been looking over your edits to Windows CardSpace. I've reverted the wording changes for the following reasons;

  • The fact that the UI is consistent is very important, it's part of the whole idea.
  • If you go through the specs you will see no reference to InfoCards at all. It is not an InfoCard it is an Information Card. Partly because someone else (Apple I believe) has the trademark on InfoCard.

I've also done a bunch of rewrites and reinclusions on Information Card, you managed to completely rearrange the types of card so it doesn't make much sense. Also InfoCardIcon.jpg has an incorrect description; that image is supposed to be used to indication Information Card support, it is not a representation of a card, nor indeed is it part of the CardSpace identity selector. --Blowdart | talk 09:07, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sharepointdesigner2007.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sharepointdesigner2007.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Watchlist view in IE8

A few days ago you posted a bug report at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Watchlist view in IE8. Are you still having this problem? Riana's request for bureaucratship

Dear Soum, thank you for taking part in my RfB. As you may know, it was not passed by bureaucrats.
I would, however, like to thank you for taking the time to voice your support, despite concerns cited by the opposition. Although RfA/B isn't really about a person, but more about the community, I was deeply touched and honoured by the outpouring of support and interest in the discussion. I can only hope that you don't feel your opinion was not considered enough - bureaucrats have to give everyone's thoughts weight.
I also hope that the results of this RfB lead to some change in the way we approach RfBs, and some thought about whether long-entrenched standards are a good thing in our growing and increasingly heterogenous community.

Common Intermediate Language bytecode is form of instructions that are run in the Common Language Infrastructure and in the .NET Framework. CIL is an object-oriented assembly language, and is entirely stack-based. It is executed by a virtual machine. For a general introduction see Common Intermediate Language. This article describes the actual bytecodes.

Vista features removed

Well, if they removed undocumented features, then we can't do anything (it wasn't documented in the first place becuase they never pledged its availability over releases). Anyways, I will try to see what I can find. I can also probably do an API comparison between XP and Vista, but that wouldn't be suitable for here. --soum talk 09:36, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
