Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.
Statistics
54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.
I'm not terribly smart. Well, besides the four languages and the two degrees. But anyway - wiki smart. I can't even figure out where to ask for help or how to search for simple easy ways to edit/fix something. I'm not terribly interested in learning arcane html-like language codes, so when's this whole user-friendliness thing gonna hit wikipedia? How do I even make a suggestion or communicate with other wiki-editors? Is there a forum I don't know about? Pointers would be much appreciated. Pär Larsson (talk) 22:05, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive Needs Your Help!
Please help!
The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive is almost complete. Please help, as the backlog is still very large. Still exceeding 20,000 articles! The goal is 18,000 or less. Lets see if we can do it! We're going to need all the firepower we can get, so please remind your friends to help as well.Thank you for all your help thus far!
Public Policy Initiative Recruiting Assessors for Spring
Hi Sophus Bie, I saw that you are in the Wikification Leaderboard of February 2011 and I would like to ask you if you want to participate in an initiative [Public Policy Initiative (PPI)] carried out by Wikipedia:WikiProject United States Public Policy. If you are interested in research and want to experiment with article assessment or just want to help out, please, join our group of assessors because we really need your help. If you have questions or need more information, please check out the discussion on the assessment tab and the WPUSPP Assessment department, or contact ARoth (Public Policy Initiative) (talk·contribs), who is the Research Analyst for the project. Also, if you know valuable and trusted editors who are expert in USPP and/or articles assessment, please invite them to participate to this project. The work to be done is not so much, and will start next spring. Your help would be much needed and greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and all the best. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 10:21, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Since you seem to do quite a bit of vandalism patrolling, have you considered using Huggle? It has to be used with care, as it is very easy to make mistakes, but if you are prepared to take that care it is a great help, and considerably reduces the time it takes to deal with vandalism. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:54, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
You could try Igloo, which is a platform-independent alternative to Huggle. My very small amount of experience of it suggests it is less convenient than Huggle, but it seems to be a reasonable alternative, and should be OK with Linux. JamesBWatson (talk) 16:24, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
PS I still do work in New York occasionally, but not much since Giuliani's presidential campaign of 2007-08.
PPS I dropped in a couple small corrections (and one cite -- a 12/6/92 Washington Post retraction about my job status), but otherwise left your additions as you placed them. See you around the campus. GaryWMaloney (talk) 20:53, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive Awards!
The Barnstar of Diligence
This Barnstar of Diligence is given to Sophus Bie for wikifying 150 articles, a total of 43,522 words (including rollover). Thanks for participating, and please be sure to help out at our next drive! Sumsum2010·T·C·Review me!
Hello, I thought you would be interested in the March Mini, a coordinated effort by WikiProject Wikify members to eliminate the 2008 backlog of articles tagged with {{wikify}} and/or {{dead end}}. Come join in the fun! There are only three prizes to be won, including a special barnstar created just for this drive!
So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.
Progress report
We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!
Utahraptor resigns
The UtahraptorTalk to me has decided to step down from his position as project coordinator due to real-life issues.
The last time I check, Wikipedia headquarters is in the USA. So Wikipedia is under US Law. You have try to prevent me from using my First Amendment Rights. Do you want to say anything before you are reporting to Wikipedia. Where do you come from? It does not sound like the USA. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.226.39.60 (talk) 05:29, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
I cannot about talk my story how my family was murder on 9/11. Yeah, you let people talk how great it is they are going to build a mosque on Ground Zero? What is wrong with you?
"You are using heavily promotional language, and furthermore, nothing leads me to believe http://www.darkeabotenou.com is an authorative source. Please discuss on talk page."
I'm sorry I don't undertand what the problem is, no one said anything about Darke Abotenou being an authoritative source, it is a cultural website with the goal of preserving the heritage of Moroccan Jews, there is no product or service being sold, it is just a database and archive. The only one of its kind in existence today. It's not 'heavily promotional language' it's just explaining what the project is. Picman14 (talk) 13:52, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
Progress report
Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.
Hi Sophus Bie, I have a typo hunting bot that is sort of beyond the beta testing stage and I wondered if you'd be interested in looking at the results?
Results are at User:DeltaQuadBot/Page Patrol/Results, it works on safe pages and safe phrases which can be found at User:DeltaQuadBot/Job requests, this is the bot that I use to patrol typo strewn words like posses. More queries could be added. ϢereSpielChequers

Hello Wikifiers!
Sorry this Newsletter is late, It should have gone out a month ago. I've been very busy in real life and didn't have time to get over to the newsletter. In this edition of the Newsletter, we have an editorial written by our new executive coordinator; Guoguo12. Guoguo12 has succeeded Mono due to an indefinite wikibreak. We also have the results of the February and March Mini drives.
Happy Wikifying,
Sumsum2010, the assistant coordinator of WikiProject Wikify
Hi there! I thought you might be interested in WikiProject Wikify's June Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. We'll be trying to reduce the backlog size by about 900 articles and we need your help! Hard-working participants in the drive will receive awards for their contributions! If you have a spare moment, please join and wikify an article or tell your friends. Thanks!
Note: The drive starts June 1, but you can still sign up!
Elections are currently underway for our Guild coordinators. The voting period will run for 14 days and ends on June 30, 23:59 UTC. All GOCE members in good standing, as well as past participants of any of the Guild's Backlog elimination drives, are eligible to vote. The candidate with the highest number of votes will become the Lead Coordinator, therefore, your vote really matters! There is also a referendum to appoint a Coordinator Emeritus. Cast your vote today.
Hi there! You are receiving this message because you are a participant of WikiProject Wikify. After the retirements of our first two executive coordinators, Mono and Guoguo12, WikiProject Wikify is undergoing a period of transition. We are currently holding a discussion to create a plan for the future, find volunteers to help fill our many administrative positions, collect any feedback about what has happened in the last six months, propose some new guidelines, and see if there are any creative ideas to increase participation. We appreciate your input!
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.
This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.
We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".
The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their September 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy editing backlog. The drive will begin on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on September 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles in the backlog, as we want to copy edit as many of those as possible. Please consider copy editing an article that was tagged in 2010. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". See you at the drive! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.
The site use userboxes are just that, for site use. They do not add people to the wikipedians who have adopted typos category. The {{aatm}}, {{aatf}}, and {{aatn}} templates all produce the exact same user box, but also add people to the category mentioned above. Also, it might not be apropriate to place the userboxes themselves on the typo team site. Maybe just a link to the adopt-a-typo adoption pride section would suffice?Majestic PyreMy Speech Bubble05:38, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
P.s. I am sorry, the above post might be alittle to the point. I should have tried to be more tactful, but it is late where I am. I really appreciate your help promoting and contributing to the adopt-a-typo project. Please don't stop. :) Majestic PyreMy Speech Bubble05:50, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
