User:Dennis Brown, does it come under WP:BEANS if I request someone to reconsider/look into the Echo mentions given the many ways it can be misused? (GoP's talk page was just jokes, but others might not be.) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 05:08, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
But Dennis, isnt that potential problems you're speaking of? Maybe not most non-solvable of problems, but they do have potential for loads of abuse. I can so well see blocked users immediately using this to raise a horde of supporters/irritate a long list of users (esp admins) who cannot afford to turn it off? It looks dangerously like a supplement to talk and user page vandalism already.
LOL What! TOS doesn't have a pager? ZOMG! Anyways... I agree that it will likely be abused by people who understand how it works when they are blocked. Perhaps it should be requested/suggested that ECHO ignore comments by blocked people or that the talk page of a blocked user doesn't trigger the alert? Technical 13 (talk) 11:38, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Awww. Oh, if that was a test linking my name with an alternative text, it worked. So, you could echo someone else like dick... How abusive that could end up being... Technical 13 (talk) 17:21, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
On the Village Pump proposals page you suggested that I get the scripting done. Do you know how I would go about this? A user called Petrb said that he could work on it if we made up our minds and it didn't take too much time. Also, mabdul, who seems to have some technical knowhow, has made some comments. Should I ask one of them? Although I have done C++, Java and HTML programming, I haven't done any tech stuff on Wikipedia, and I wouldn't want to start on something that could mess up a lot of new users, even if the admins would let me. —Anne Delong (talk) 19:31, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
As T13 said here, that's what sandboxes are for. If you plan on giving a hand yourself, you can always start trying at a sandbox, which is cerrtainly safe.
But if you want me to suggest someone who can help you (apart from Petrb and mabdul), they will be Technical 13, Writ Keeper, Theopolisme and some imaginary friends I have.
And the best thing to do is to ask one (or more) of them, and ask them how they think we should proceed [based on the discussion], and then if they can help in making it.
Thanks, I'll see who I can ask. I don't mind admitting that I have no idea how this Wiki works underneath; I've been too busy editing to look. I understand HTML, and I did a little serverside Java programming, MySQL and C++ stuff some years ago, but I'd be willing to bet that this is considerably different. I know how badly project can go if the designer doesn't know the system well enough. I am looking forward to watching this "thing" being built and seeing the process unfold so that I will have something to emulate in the future, starting small. —Anne Delong (talk) 00:52, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I was going to write more, but just as I started typing, my bus home showed up and I had to shut down. I'd be happy to help you put together a sandbox and some testcases. I'm heading to bed for tonight and look forward to seeing what you have in mind exactly in the morning. Feel free to link my user page, effectively pinging me with echo instead of using a talkback. ;) Technical 13 (talk) 00:58, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
From what I hear Anne, these are the most useful languages here- Php, javascript and python. I dont think java or c++ helps. [I myself know only java - Heart it from other people] TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:23, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
I took a course with some PHP, but then never had a use for it, so it fell out the other ear... I do know that knowing one language makes it easier to learn another. Goodnight.—Anne Delong (talk) 03:49, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
I could, Tito, but I am neither Bengali, nor have read anything about Feluda. So I would not be able to help by any prior knowledge, which I think is why you asked. And thanks for the offer, but my Bengali is rusty enough for me to not be able to enjoy the collection. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 06:40, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
Soni. I can't figure out what happened. It looks like you did some testing and forgot to clean up after yourself. The nominees were already u-linked. why test them again? Anyway. V-9 needs some text in order to make it to the Q. ```Buster Seven Talk06:44, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Really sorry Buster. I totally got busy in something else, and forgot about that. Will clean up right now. I had been testing the new notifications to check which of the pages will send a notification to the recipient. So far the only sure thing I've got is that linking to User talk doesnt give any notifications. I think most of the rest of the pages do give it. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 03:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Previously the article was declined on 31 March 2013 due to insufficient references considering which the reference list was updated considerably.
This time the reason for rejection is 'promotional stuff'. I'll be grateful if you can help me with the editing and successful submission of the same article. Additionally it will be good if you can point out a few lines in the article which sounds like promotional stuff.
Hi Soni - Trying to see why you question the notability of the person (Patrick Vlaskovits). He is a best selling author and referenced in other Wikipedia articles, including Bob Dorf and Steve Blank.
I reference NY Times, USA Today, university sites, and the Harvard Business Review to name a few. They are extremely reliable sources that reference Mr. Vlaskovits and his book that he authored.
Hello Westeros7. This article fails to meet our notability guidelines (per WP:42) and ought to be deleted unless extensive reliable sources can be added. Please comment on the deletion entry of the article if you have something to say. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 03:16, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Anne and Researcher Q(can I call you RQ?), linking anyone's user page gives them a notification [Because of the new Echo features]. This is a much better way to ensure that the editor you're talking to knows when you reply. I thought this tip would come in handy for both of you, and thought I should inform you. Cheers,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 07:02, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Hrmm... I was just curious if it would register as a talk page post and a mention since the two are supposedly different things. Anyways, good to know. :) Happy editing! Technical 13 (talk) 12:26, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Thats because the infobox is manually added by one of us (usually me) using the . But I never got to completing it or sending it to Delay. I've been terribly busy these days :|
I thought of and investigated doing it myself but the Delaywaves Infobox is no longer on the templta main page so I wasnt sure what to do. Can you recruit someone to cover for you as to implementing the Infobox in a timely fashion if you are too busy?? Thanks!```Buster Seven Talk13:13, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Give me a link to where you want me to join over at. I'm taking finals this week, but I'll take a look at it. If it is just a matter of posting a template on a page here or there, that might be okay. Technical 13 (talk) 13:26, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
(ec)Thanks Tech 13. The most important feature is that the Infobox appear simultaneoulsly (sp) in many different spots. Soni can tell you where those spots are. ```Buster Seven Talk13:52, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
The work is more about doughnuts than technical, Dennis. The hardest part of it is preparing a good infobox. The rest are simple stuff which i can explain how to do. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 15:04, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Placing the current infobox on the recipient's talk page is as straightforward as awarding a barnstar. Copy to the recipient's talk page (this instruction is present on Template:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Project main page). Copying the prepared infobox from the sandbox to the "Project main page" page is a bit more tricky, but also straightfoward. Taking the current sandbox as an example:
Sandbox etc explained by isaacl
Infoboxes for future Editors of the Week
Dismas
clear
Copy the content from . Note the clear is not copied, nor is the heading with the recipient's name. Looking at the current "Project main page":
<noinclude><!--
DO NOT MOVE OR RETITLE TEMPLATE. ITS INTENTION IS THE MAINPAGE OF EDITOR RETENTION

Any formatting change effects the way the template appears on the mainpage of Project Editor Retention.
DO NOT ADD ADDITIONAL MATERIAL TO THE TEMPLATE PAGE, SUCH AS HEADERS!
Headers are never added to template pages. Please do not add any additional edits outside the template or beyond the preformatted info section. This effects formatting on the mainpage of Project Editor Retention
DO NOT REMOVE DOCUMENTATION AND DO NOT ADD CLEAR TEMPLATE!
Documentation is required for this template to instruct new users how to sub it on a talkpage. Do not add the clear template at the end as that also effect formatting on pages.
--></noinclude>

<noinclude>
documentation
</noinclude>
Paste the copied content between the </noinclude> and <noinclude> statements, replacing everything from
Note although I described the easier task first, they should be done in the reverse order: first you update the "Project main page" page, and then you place the infobox on the recipient's talk page. Also, you should remove the draft infobox from the sandbox page, so the next one in line will now be ready at the top of the sandbox page.
Updating the Hall of Fame page is done in the same way as placing the infobox on the recipient's talk page, but for a prettier layout, it is done within a 3-column table, so some attention has to be paid to that. If I get the chance, I'll describe that too. isaacl (talk) 15:26, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
If Isaac wanted to do it he would have done it already. I'll take on the task until someone else is willing to do it. No prob. ```Buster Seven Talk17:13, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
I've added Delaywaves to the Hall of Fame, but this is outside my usual pastures, and I'd prefer if the WikiProject members could manage without my help. Huon (talk) 20:12, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Is there A priority rush on this? If I can have 2-3 weeks, I can write you a user script to do what you described above i think. Technical 13 (talk) 21:17, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Here's what the table looks like with a new row added and the current infobox substituted into the first column of the new row:
+ Editors of the Week
(infobox 1)
(infobox 2)
(infobox 3)
(infobox 4)
(infobox 5)
(infobox 6)

So as long as the next infobox is prepared ahead of time in the sandbox, copying it to the "Project main page" page, and then placing it on the recipient's talk page and the Hall of Fame page is a mechanical task. As TheOriginalSoni said, preparing the draft infobox is what takes some thought and time. isaacl (talk) 02:43, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Huon, thanks anyways. T13, I don't think a script is very much required, than preparing those infoboxes for the editors. But you're free to help around :) Dennis, do tell if you think you can help in this task. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 06:11, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
ITN credit
On 9 May 2013, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Alex Ferguson, which you recently nominated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page.
Ah. Anna Frodesiak, If you notice, that box was not what we initially gave you. Thats because it wasnt substituted, and changed every time anyone changed the original template. This could break the box later on as our parameters changed, so I substed it to make sure it stays like that forever :) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:05, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Talk page stalkers
Attention all talk page stalkers,
I wont be here for the next few days at all, and I am hoping there just arent too many notifications for me when I come back. I hope my TPS will take care of any of the important issues that come up in the meanwhile.
I appreciate the advice, Soni, but I had a specific reason to mention that while trying to calm a dispute. Some editors choose to remain anonymous. I don't. I am self employed and have a website with lots of information about me. So anyone can track me down. That's my decision and it works fine for me. If I ever decide to work on highly controversial topics, I will register an alternate account. Cullen328Let's discuss it15:21, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Ah. That makes sense. I thought that I should give you a cursory warning just in case. And I too got the specific reason to mention that. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 15:23, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
It is nice to know that other editors, including you, are looking out for my best interests, such as reverting vandalism on my talk page while I am away. You are always welcome on my talk page. Cullen328Let's discuss it16:46, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Hey TOS! I'm so happy to see you signed up to join the project - welcome. You can dive into our to-do lists here. Be sure to watchlist your favorites, as they will continue to grow as new content gets added to the WDL website. Also, you can always search the WDL website for something that you're interested in. And be sure to share your outcomes here. If I can help with anything just ask and welcome aboard! SarahStierch (talk) 17:17, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
@SarahStierch: Hello. :) I'll look into those archives as soon as I edit articles in depth. But I think you might want to stalk and invite the most active members working on Culture and History (A look into those WikiProjects maybe?) and see who can help. I've already invited Sitush myself.
I also wanted to know whether these are the only sources that are going online, or more are to follow? A basic glance showed me that there was quite a less number of them. (Or did I miss something somewhere?)
I am in the process of actually inviting people from various projects! So thanks for the suggestion - great minds think alike. If you visit http://www.wdl.org you'll find thousands of pages of content. Many of the pages have hundreds of documents/manuscripts/images related to them. So there is plenty to dive into. SarahStierch (talk) 17:48, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Hey TOS I would like your advice (no hurry) on some info about Asafoetida (Hing) (medicinal properties) I would like to put in the article. (see my talk page its there) I thought you may have some good perspective to offer on the subject :-)--OneMadScientist (talk) 14:31, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick response and good advice TOS (I know you must be busy with exams).
The only bit I'am not practically 100% sure about really is ( "I believe this property is not much researched in the west or the compound responsible for this known").
I just thought that you being from India and all :-)...
I will do some more research and see what I can come up with. Thanks, and all the best for your exams TOS (over and out)--OneMadScientist (talk) 13:18, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for introducing me to Miss Bono TOS and I Hope you don't mind if I bug you again by asking for your opinion/advice on the wording and references etc (I have found some), when I'm finished getting it together, on the Hing opiate antagonist properties info (its not too easy to find and I'm 'just a bit' lazy and easily distracted). Or you could point me in some other direction and give me a push :-) that's cool to. (over and out)--OneMadScientist (talk) 11:26, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
No problem mate. :)
You could look at WP:TAFI if you think you might be helpful at article creation. Or you can tell me which topics interest you exactly, and what work you do best, and I could help find you places where your help could be required most. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 11:56, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
No, what I mean TOS is, things like 'How do you provide a reference for a lack of information' like when I say ( "I believe this property is not much researched in the west or the compound responsible for this known") maybe I should just leave that bit out (But I think that is an important point as I think it needs further research etc) and so fourth. And as for references the best I could find so far is pasted on my talk page. And when I said point me in another direction I meant for advice on this specific issue :-)--OneMadScientist (talk) 13:36, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
If the missing reference is really obvious (Like dozens of news channels speaking of Arab Spring, but none of them being from the Middle east), then just add that "The issue has not been discussed in xyz sources". But leaving them out is the way to go, unless you think its uncontroversial/ can be supported by sources easily if someone else tries to find them.
No worries if you arent here for all the articles ;) As long as you aren't going anywhere, its fine. :) Also, I never had a liking for over-inert metals. Molybdenum is a lot more fascinating. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 02:57, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
So TOS. Now I have one good (2012) medical!? ref saying asafoetida has opiate antagonist properties (in the intro but no actual research). (its on my talk page).
And I have NOW also just found THIS (from 2011) - (while googling - naturaly occuring opioid antagonists) -->
"It is not widely known, but coffee - decaf and decaffeinated, instant, brewed and espresso - contains compounds such as 4-Caffeoyl-1, 5-quinide (AKA 4-Caffeoylquinide or 4-CQL) which have a high affinity for the mu opioid receptor. These compounds do not activate the receptor. They prevent it being occupied and activated by endogenous opioids (produced naturally by the body) or by exogenous opioids, such as morphine. These compounds are mu opioid receptor antagonists and are unrelated to caffeine."
