Fritz Matti

Hi Somno,

Yesterday night I created a page about Fritz Matti and you deleted it on the grounds that: "it did not state the importance of the person" (A7). However, I clearly indicated that he was by far the most reputed and experienced gunsmith and firearms artisan in Canada. Would it be possible to have an explanation for the deletion as I do not believe that it is justified...?

Hi. It seems Decltype has already answered most of your questions on your talk page. Speedy deletion criterion A7 covers "An article about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant". I do not believe that saying someone is "the most experienced gunsmith in Canada" is a claim of importance or significance, and your comments on the talk page about this claim being "very likely" (rather than proven) and that you were obtaining your information solely from the article subject (rather than independent, reliable sources) led to my decision to delete. I would be happy to userfy this article for you (which means I will restore the article to your userspace so you can work on improving it) if you like. Please let me know. Images from Commons

Save The Hotel Pennsylvania Foundation

You need to prove more than the group's existence - you need to prove it is notable, according to Wikipedia's standards. This means that the foundation needs to have received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the foundation. This coverage needs to be verifiable. There are only seven links in Google to the foundation, and none of those are independent. It does not appear to have been covered in any newspapers. The proposed demolition of the hotel is notable, but unfortunately I have seen no proof that your organisation is also notable. Somno (talk) 03:53, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

99ers

Hi Somnno, I'm not sure who to refer this to. The 99ers page is getting vandalized by anonymous users who post prejudicial statements against the poor or who misuse tags to try to throw the article into dispute. I've corrected it where I find it, but am now asking for help because a user (not an administrator) gave the discussion page a c and low economics rating while admitting the page had not yet been rated. I removed the misuse of the rating and asked the user to wait for an administrator to decide.

For reference: 99ers are U.S. long-term unemployed who are being used as a 2010 campaign issue. Example: Glenn Beck has stirred up his listeners by referring to them as "un-American" for being unemployed. The vandalism seems to be coming from that camp, based on some of the comments that have been removed. The article, which was not started by me, but to which I've been adding source info and links, is now valid to wiki standards as far as I can tell.

Given the nature of the vandalism, is there some way the 99ers article can be protected? It's an important issue that is going to grow in significance as two bills on the issue work their way through legislature and as the 2010 and 2012 elections use it on both sides. It deserves a non-vandalized page. Can you please advise or direct me to someone who can? Thanks. Oakbranch (talk) 23:04, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Craig Cobb

Hi Somno! This page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Cobb, looks like self-promotion by a white supremacist. It came to my attention because the guy has just started a "false flag" attack on the Occupy Wall Street fb pages, where he's posting genocidal and antisemitic statements and trying to make it look like it's coming from others. He cited his wikipedia page as "proof" that he's legitimate. Isn't Wiki supposed to delete self-promotion? In this case, it might do a world of good to do so. MSU Interview

Dear Somno,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you.
