About Ion Thruster Edit

Hi, there I have seen you removed an edit about the propulsive efficiency for the Ion thruster which I posted a few weeks ago (I was an anonymous user then). Maybe my edit is not perfect, however the paragraph in this article is completely irrelevant (you can also look at the talk section, somebody else noted it), for somebody with a degree in physics there is no such thing as a "vehicle velocity", velocity is always relative to a reference. The formulas used within the paragraph are formulas which are derived for propulsive efficiency within an athmosphere (in an athmosphere it is common practice to name vehicle velocity its velocity relative to the athmosphere). In a vaccum (in space) this formula is no longer valid, and Ion thrusters are used almost exclusively in space (due to their small thrusts).

Maybe you may think that I do not have any reliable sources (altough some good physics books could do), but then remove this propulsive efficiency paragraph which has really nothing to do in this article then. Sjaure (talk) 12:55, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation, Lotje- that makes a little more sense now. Out of context, I was having a difficult time understanding the connection between a chicken (didn't realize SDO had any sort of rubber chicken mascot) and a solar observatory- I almost didn't realize your edit was in good faith. Changing the link on the page to Camilla Corona, as you did, is probably more useful to a reader in the long run anyway. Thanks again for the note. Cheers! Thanks for your interest! I do not believe in edit wars either, but I also think that there should be more reason given for the deletion of a contribution. The goal of the Second Life Museum of Nuclear Warfare is actually to expand the use of virtual worlds as an educational tool, and it is my hope that virtual exhibits will someday be treated with the same respect as real life ones. I welcome further discussion, and if you want to visit the museum, I invite you to do so. Thanks!! :)

USNS Mercy (T-AH-19)

Skyraider1, Not sure how to message you (I've spent 15 minutes trying to figure it out!!), but regarding your enquiry to me: "I noticed you recently updated some information in the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment article, but without providing an updated source. Adding your source to the information you updated will help keep the article in line with Wikipedia's verifiability policy" which concerns the reentry of the Grace 2 satellite and the prediction of upcoming reentry of Grace 1. Thanks, I'd actually thought of that when I submitted the edit. Problem is accessing that info requires a user name and password at https://www.space-track.org/auth/login so wouldn't do anyone any good unless they have an account with Space-Track. Would you suggest I cite that now? Xapie128, I looked around at Wikipedia's guidelines, and there's a short paragraph about Access to sources. Short answer: even if a log-in is required, a site like that could be used as a source. I don't have an account on Space-Track, but if it seems to follow the rest of the WP:RS guidelines, then no issue using it. So feel free to use it as a source in the future. Hope that helps! Cheers! This first issue was sent to all active members of the project and its sub-projects. If you wish to continue receiving The WikiEagle, you can add your username to the mailing list.
