Yes, I'm thrilled to see that the project has kicked off. I'm adding the relevant templates to driver pages as I go along. Thanks for the update. TydeNet 05:44, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi Scott. Froggydarb has completed a second draft of the coverage map, but I notice Queensland was overlooked. Can you comment on the map at Talk:Australian wine or directly to Froggydarb himself as I feel you're more qualified in the area of wine and wine regions than a mere spirit drinking chap like myself :) Thanks. -- Longhair 13:36, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the vote of confidence - at least you live amongst the vines :-) I've responded on Talk:Australian wine. --Scott Davis Talk 14:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Surrounded by them actually. I wish I still had a decent camera, I'd get some shots. It's a great time of year here. Those bare vines are now beginning to show a lovely green. -- Longhair 14:09, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
We are presently having a dispute over an article title - an article about structures "in Paris" , but over 70% of the article content, and the tallest of the lot (save a very few), are not at all in Paris. A few of us have managed to come into agreement over an "in the Paris area" title - your views and vote on the matter would much be welcome at Talk:List of tallest buildings and structures in Paris. Thank you for this and for your contributions on a similar question. THEPROMENADER 20:10, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Too much to read now - I'll try tonight. --Scott Davis Talk 23:22, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Good lord, it looks as though you're going to have a bit to read there too. Thanks though. THEPROMENADER 00:11, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Both sides appear to have valid arguments from their own perspective. I would tend to use the broader meaning of "Paris", but do not feel competent to express an opinion on that discussion - sorry. --Scott Davis Talk 14:57, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
I would appreciate your alterations and suggestions with South Australian legislative election, 2006 and Talk:South Australian legislative election, 2006 in trying to get the article to FA status. Your valued opinions and experience are always appreciated. Timeshift 18:51, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've glanced at the top and will try to look over the rest in the next few days. Thankyou for the flattery, and well done on having put the work into this and its supporting articles. --Scott Davis Talk 14:57, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
I have substantially edited your page on mt. kembla and combined it with other page on the geograpy of the mountain and pag on the mt kembla mining disaster. I believe that it is much more efficent to read about this information on mount kembla from one page. What do u think about the combining and information. I have lived in mt kembla all my life & the information is accurate. Abishai, Talk 14:45 14 September 2006
- I don't have a problem with larger articles if they can stay focussed on a topic. In the case of Mount Kembla you seem to have done a fairly good job, although we would normally put a town or suburb in a separate article from a natural feature such as a mountain or river. --Scott Davis Talk 14:36, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
AHD
RE the AHD, you have a point. I am not actually sure there is a definate boundary to it, although I do know the study areas that developed it back in 1971 were based on tide data only on continental Australia. btxtsf
Enjoy enjoy. I am about to empty a very large storage unit - in it are my things on west coast, which I will be uploading at some stage. I would say what is not west coast is probably worth it -
however if you can: Any of the older power stations (if you go near them at all I have Lake MArgaret sort of done inside, but any extras outside would be good) - I think Chuq and mates have the Hobart area well done - obscure townsites on the side tracks are always worth doing - even something as mundane as highway signs (I was in Tassie about 4 months ago and forgot some of the mundane highway shots) but its up to you! I have zilch Launceston and east coast in my archive! Best Wishes and safe travelling SatuSuro 01:59, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- Oops. Roseberry and Tullah are potentially in need of extras. SatuSuro 14:25, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Scott. Here are the photos that you resquested for the Miami article. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] Use which ever are suitable. I have also notified User:Nathannoblet --WikiCats 13:02, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll get to them sometime if Nathan doesn't get there first. Then you and I can get back to what we each consider our own priority articles. --Scott Davis Talk 13:46, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Well... I had do something to make up for being so nasty. --WikiCats 10:18, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks - I picked up about 4 of them that I could imagine how they relate to the current text. If the rest fit, add them too. Eventually someone will respond to an peer review and complain if there are too many pictures, but that generally only happens once someone adds a gallery block, not just if the pictures fit down the sides. Ideally they should be spread left/right/left/right, but I don't think any sections are long enough to look right like that yet, and it sounds like neither of us want to do the research to extend them for Miami in the near future. I'm glad we eventually worked out we agree. Thanks for taking the photos. --Scott Davis Talk 10:36, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi, will be emailed SatuSuro 09:56, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Mount Lyell - best to go to disambig first i reckon. SatuSuro 10:43, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- You may have noticed in many of the arts my whitham ref (I have a 1949 and 2003 edition of it) is problematic (maybe not) with a small q and a wrong isbn, they will be fixed soon - am trying to ascertain through some libraries what the correct isbn should be - my intel imac and camino browser didnt like shift/q for a while, what fun SatuSuro 11:02, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've fixed the Q where I've noticed it. I don't know the right ISBN, so haven't touched that! --Scott Davis Talk 11:14, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- The copy that I have has a short isbn, I have been placed in a query queue on the correct number.
BTW the Kelly Basin/Pillinger distinction is a tricky one - if you read blainey p 129 -" This port. sometimes called Pillinger was named after James Kelly" (the north mount lyell railway timetables used kelly basin as the name of the port) so I would suppose I'd challenge your title change on that one - regardless of what current maps might use for instance.i SatuSuro 11:40, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't have a copy of Blainey, and my harbour cruise didn't mention Kelly Basin OR Pillinger, so feel free to correct anything I've got wrong in that area. Which article(s) are you talking about specifically? --Scott Davis Talk 11:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- 20:56, 4 October 2006 (hist) (diff) Kelly Basin, Tasmania (moved Kelly Basin, Tasmania to Kelly Basin: only towns use ", <State>" qualification) (top)
- 20:56, 4 October 2006 (hist) (diff) m Kelly Basin (moved Kelly Basin, Tasmania to Kelly Basin: only towns use ", <State>" qualification)
- Is what I had issue with - although there is a ghost town by the name of Pillinger, Kelly Basin is also technically a ghost town as well - and was the main usage - as a port and settlement for most of its time - although in contemporary Tasmania the maps probably only have Kelly Basin as a bay in Macquarie Harbour SatuSuro 12:23, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Do you think they were two different towns? Or Pillinger was a town and Kelly Basin was a port/wharf/railway station? Timetables sometimes add to confusion - I've had similar difficulties with Gove Airport (serves Nhulunbuy on the Gove Peninsula, but not a place called "Gove") and Fua'amotu International Airport (serves Nuku'alofa, but is on the opposite side of the island of Tongatapu from that town) showing up in timetables with a variety of names/places. --Scott Davis Talk 12:47, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Geosciences doesnt help - I think common usage at the turn of the twentieth century doesnt fit with current govt admin geographic names thingies - I am sure its two names for the same place SatuSuro 12:59, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Noticed the Pillinger issue coming up - gawd, bit like East Finchley/South Finchley or Upper/Lower Gormanston - may the best place name win :) SatuSuro 13:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- The worst I'm aware of is Burra, South Australia, which was made of about 8 townships divided by company/ethnic group/government town. --Scott Davis Talk 11:07, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Talk pages on these arts can go unanswrd for ages, heheh.
The big problem with west coast tasmania -s that there are two arts - the one which is oriented towards the local government authority - wet coast council (as I like to call it - it rained 10 days non stop when I first went to live in queenstown) and the other is the "intro article" which I meant to lead into the range of arts that might exist or be begging to be written.
Then theres the west coast range article as well. :) SatuSuro 11:47, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm adding anything I remember from signage, museums or tours, and trying to show off my holiday photos in a tasteful way :-) Thinking about Wikipedia helps me take better photos (sometimes). --Scott Davis Talk 11:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Re expert - Funnily enough nor do I, its just that there's a copy of Blainey next to my keyboard. The thing about pointing out the three separate but linked articles is that
- West Coast Range as a predominantly geographic article re the features in the higher parts
- West Coast Tasmania as the local government authority article (i forget the exact rendering of the title)
- West Coast Tasmania as the linkage and intro to the region (ditto) such as convicts and railways was mentioned as I thought if you had a range of shots they could relate to these three in some way -
- anyways - the important thing if in derwent bridge/lake st clair area is to keep warm - Mount Read is currently near 3 degrees c, and the strahan waverider bouy is between 2m to 4 m range - so things shouldnt be too wild tonight :) SatuSuro 12:23, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm currently tucked up in Cradle Valley, indoors and warm :-) I think we're done in the main "West Coast" area, so whatever photos I've got are the ones I can choose from. There's still some I plan to upload yet. I expect most of the pictures I upload will go on pages on your watchlist. Feel free to add any pictures to extra pages you know about that you think they fit. I can't insult anybody by later replacing one photo I took with another one :-) --Scott Davis Talk 12:47, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

No worries. I have left some of them alone because they are shopping centres or the like, or insignificant towns, which may never require a disambiguation entry--Grahamec 13:39, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- The purpose for which I created the list is to ensure that if an article exists it is correctly named and has a redirect or link from the unqualified name. I'm quite happy to leave links to insignificant places in the list. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 13:35, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Should all be listed in that list - forgotten actual title of list - I was using the crotty Tasmap (or whatever they are called now) for how they allocate governance over particular reserves - in 2003 the local queenstown dosgbody for the multitasked got dept office in what used to be the mt lyell geology dept (where I used to work some years ago) said the changes in the RFA's at the time were causing a nightmare for understanding the minutiae of whose bit of land was whose on the west coast. sigh SatuSuro 08:39, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- I also am dissatisfied with the west coast range mountain separate mountain articles in that there is an inconsistent style between the various mountains - I do like the box on the rhs in some - but there is room for improvement - any suggestions at all? SatuSuro 08:45, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- The list is Protected areas of Tasmania. It has nothing with "Crotty" in the name, so it may now be called something other than Crotty Conservation Area. The box on the RHS is created by {{Infobox mountain}}. --Scott Davis Talk 13:48, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I think amnesia is setting in on some of my earlier edits :) SatuSuro 13:59, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Have taken the issue in hand - have found so many issues with the west coast range group of articles alone, I think I'll be cleaning up for a while! SatuSuro 02:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
- Have fun! I've still got a few more photos worthy of adding, I think. I'll get round to them sometime. --Scott Davis Talk 03:38, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
- Lake Burbury - Thanks for that, was so keen to cleanup the red links (some items will never be sufficient for independent articles) got carried away! SatuSuro 07:31, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
- I really appreciate your keeping things fixed up and all, I owe ya something for all this! It's a relief to get things straightened out SatuSuro 02:47, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- If we all pitch in, eventually we'll have a nice encyclopaedia :-) I can't be bothered finding the right parameters for infoboxes most of the time, so I'll leave them for you :-) --Scott Davis Talk 02:58, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Very specifically the bloody Peaks of Lyell article which I started wrong in the first place- thank you very much for that. Dont worry about other things - your help has been appreciated to get my editing morale up again after having a range of small problems. SatuSuro 03:04, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm glad you choose to feel encouraged by me coming along and editing your hard work. Another conversation on this page at the moment is less happy. I found a reference for adding the Crotty Conservation Area to the list somewhere, too. I'll do that when I get round to it. --Scott Davis Talk 07:00, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the work on the Jukes minesite mess - initially the idea had been to have separate articles for the different sites - its definitely staying as one
I know I have a photo of the north side site - and used to have a plan of the east "Lake Jukes" sigte which one of the mt lyell geos gave me when i was working there - ironically Mt Darwin had heaps more small adits thaat didnt show up much beyond the initial drives. Folklore had it when the hydro were sinking the shaft between the dam/intake tower and the power station that they were passing through amazing mineraalised zones - i have no idea if there was ever documentation on that though. I am very encouraged - steady checking of the mess that lay dormant makes me realise there's lots more to do - before I even go into the mine of images somewhere in the shedSatuSuro 10:24, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'd really encourage you to try to find maps, charts, plans and historic photos if they're old enough or have suitable licences. They're much harder to find or create than current photos and make articles more interesting. Surely if there are good minerals under the lake they could be extracted by either some sort of dredging if they're near the (ground) surface, or by normal underground mining from a shaft or decline next to the lake if they're deeper? --Scott Davis Talk 10:44, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Heheh, the nature of the geology and the fissures/etc, I suspect that it would be difficult. Talking about this brings back too many memories - Cape Horn - the isolated decline well north of most of the lyell workings and almost as far as the comstock mine on the north west corner of the actual mount lyell mountain - was active mainly in the 70's. when it was abandoned in the late 80's ( i think) the story was that it filled up literally in weeks (!) We used to go down the spiral decline in the ancient diesel landdrovers to do samples in various parts. I suspect that something would have to be very high grade to justify difficult mining conditions. Henty gold mine is such- to think I used to be a gfa working over the area where they are now (!) I have hundreds of photos of the west coast - b&w negs, color slides, color prints - its just the time to scan them etc. Thanks for your encouragement again. SatuSuro 12:39, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sarah Island - Brilliant! - It lifts the article out of the water! (I used to argue with rebecca about what the title of the article should be) hey hope you got more. I'd have to tell you offline about the sarah island tour guides and etc SatuSuro 14:21, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've got a nice one of the penitentiary from the land side, and a couple of the shipbuilding slipways and the remains of the windbreak wall, but they're near high tide, so the water is over them. I thought the current length of the article didn't need many more pictures.
- Yeah maybe - but then when you consider there is 'convictism in western tasmania' 'sarah island' and there's something else again it slips from memory - I reckon you could use them for the convictism one yes? - or the west coast tas 'ethos' bit - SatuSuro 14:38, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Convicts on the West Coast of Tasmania is a mere stub IMHO as there is a need for lots more in that - if you have others I reckon they need to be in there! SatuSuro 14:47, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the penitentiary photo. It's past my bedtime now. You're welcome to move my pictures around or add them to other pages if you like. --Scott Davis Talk 15:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- My kids go back to school tommorow - I should have been down much much earlier - the photos are excellent - thank you so much! they are fine where they are for the moment! Thanks again! SatuSuro 15:10, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Red Links in West Coast Range - wow - we almost got rid of them - then the hard work, just got the Mount Lyell remediation work (1994-1996) material out of one of the uni llibraries here - some exceellent material, no photos but excellent maps for me to refresh my memory on whole lots of things! SatuSuro 08:00, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
I keep forgetting to put my stubs on the new arts australia list - is there any real benefit to enter them? Also I bought haygarth (re ref in waratah) in hobart when i was there a couple of months ago - some good bits and pieces.SatuSuro 14:49, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- The benefit as I see it is in helping the people who might be able to improve the article to discover it's there. How did you find the new Waratah, Tasmania article for example?
- I listed it as that's the most likely way for someone interested but not looking for it to find the new article. --Scott Davis Talk 01:47, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for that - good stuff! I understand the importance now. SatuSuro 01:11, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- I must say Geology of Australia is one of the most unbalanced categories that I have seen yet! Thanks for the cats on Mount Read Volcanics, its the article I have ben dreading - but its the key to the whole mineralisation of west coast tas - and although my concept of cambrian is definitely different from my feeling for the carboniferous (!) - I think this one will be growing slowly. I cant wait to find an out of copyright photo of the hercules haulage on mount read either! SatuSuro 13:14, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Because of your actions on the Miami,Queensland artical I have gone to the medatation cabal and requested Medatation.
The case name is 2006-10-13 Scott Davis and Miami,Queensland.
I have the right to nominate it for GA and i do not think you have the right to take it off.
Thank you for your attention
Nathannoblet 08:34, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I guess if that's how you feel, but me, WikiCats and Longhair have all advised that the Miami, Queensland article is not up to that standard yet. At the moment, you're the only one who appears to consider that article as a high priority to improve, yet you keep asking and don't visibly respond to the answers. WikiCats has taken the photos, and we have put them on the page. WikiCats has provided other relevant info on the talk page, yet you keep asking for higher levels of support for the article without responding to the obvious shortcomings. There is no doubt the article is in a better state now than it was before you started, so Wikipedia thanks you for your help in that. I shall respond further at Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-10-13 Scott Davis and Miami,Queensland. --Scott Davis Talk 13:24, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've chosen to stop dealing with this particular editor Scott. I've been pulling my hair out for months now regarding their edits. It's become clear they talk a lot, but never listen. Don't bother wasting my time with his antics should anything come of this nonsense. Sheesh. Good luck mate, I needed a laugh before I take a small break and head out of town. -- Longhair\talk 11:21, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your diplomatic efforts. I think we're all as confused as each other over "the dispute". It'll all blow over as soon as another hobby that tickles his fancy takes hold hopefully :) Thanks for the reply (and image) the other day as well Scott. It's helped me greatly understand who I'm dealing with now and moved my temperament barometer towards that of a misunderstood user rather than a serial pest. -- Longhair\talk 07:55, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure if you've seen Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Scott Davis yet, but I thought it might be something that required your attention. For trivia's sake, I've got an arbitration request directly below you at the same page, from the same user. -- Longhair\talk 14:00, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I had seen, but since I'm travelling at the moment, decided that watching but not commenting seemed OK given that there is no response to my Meditation Cabal, or my negotiation attempt on Nathan's talk page, and one (now two) arbitrator had already rejected the case. It also says Nathan must notify me, which he has not. --Scott Davis Talk 08:22, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi Scott. I believe it to be seperate like Gold Coast City. I agree with Category:Logan City. Go for it.
When are you coming over? Indy is on right now. I'm going back tonight(Sat.) to Surfers. We are overloaded with girls right now. --WikiCats 00:12, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Scott,
I am new to Wikipedia but I am going through the entry on Broken Hill to add more about the history etc of the place largely because I am doing some much research on the place for a contract I am doing at work.
I noticed you edited my posting on the railways and cut out my references. As I am new to all this I was wondering why you did this as entrys have to be verifiable don't they? Or is there some exception to the rule?
Please dont take this the wrong way - I am asking for information rather than being critical/
yours
Iain Stuart
--Iain Stuart 23:06, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- I certainly did not mean to remove any references! Can you point to a particular edit? (Use history, then a diff link, and paste the whole URL here). I thought your contributions Broken Hill, New South Wales were good, but I added some wikilinks and fixed a few other minor format and style things, I thought. I did change spelling of Tarawingee to Tarrawingee as that seemed to be the more common way on the web (and I left a reference). --Scott Davis Talk 23:17, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Sorry Scott,
I am almost certain that I posted two references in support of the railways section but after trawling back I can' see where they have been removed. It's all a bit odd - I will add them again. I was worried that I had broken some sort of Wikirule.
yours
Iain Stuart
- I never saw them - the one I added was found with Google. References are good, please add them again. My best guess is that you accidentally used Show preview then followed a link from the page and never came back to save your last changes. Sorry. --Scott Davis Talk 10:19, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi Scott,
My source is the New Zealand Official History of the War at: http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-WH2Paci-_N89892.html which states A site for an aerodrome was readily available, and as soon as this was constructed it could become a base for anti-submarine patrols, a refuge for aircraft in distress, and a staging depot for land-based aircraft moving on the long hop over water between New Zealand, Australia and New Caledonia, and the battlefront in the Solomons farther north. I've edited the article to correct this. --Nick Dowling 08:03, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- The opening of that page says ...the only land on the direct air route between New Zealand and New Caledonia, carries a link in the submarine cable across the Pacific,.... It does then continue suggesting it as a ferry route to Australia too, so I don't know. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 09:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
hi scott ... flexme here,
how are you?
long time no see/hear.
sorry to desert the solar tower issue before - but i do need to earn a crust and spend family time etc etc.
there have been interesting developments which seem to show jdh in a clearer light. a new project has recieved millions in funding in mildura, it is of course exactly what jdh was advertising: a mirror style power plant. i hope it works of course. but i fear that the wikipedia effort was made to divert funds from a much better cause and instead into a "swindle".
http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7005311678
- Hi Flexme. I've been meaning to go back and at least wind up that discussion about Solar updraft tower, but haven't gotten round to it yet. It will be interesting to see if either or both plants end up being productive. Enviromission had a trading halt after the announcement to "reduce confusion in the market". I couldn't work out from their announcement though whether they have LOST a grant to this new project, or that both projects have funding under the same scheme. Do you have any reason to believe Jdh is associated with the new project? Does it have an article? I understood hat he was pushing Solar power tower technology to drive a traditional steam turbine, whereas this new plant will be photovoltaic. --Scott Davis Talk 22:24, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- i am simply looking at the circumstantial evidence ...the anti enviromission stance, the pro mirror stance and the dedication and timing. I am not familiar with the photovoltaic v steam turbine issue you suggest - i will have a look. I may just be overly suspicious of coincidences. i do keep remembering this:"
Well, I decided to be bold, and rename this thing to "Solar updraft tower". This name was used in a paper I found on the site of Schlaich Bergermann und Partner (SBP), Stuttgart. JdH 20:41, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
But it's such a rare term - the people building one call it "Solar tower" and "solar updraft tower" gets only a couple dozen Google hits. --Wtshymanski 00:58, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I get over 200 hits with "Solar updraft tower" (allowing some variations such as "Solar updraft power tower" or "Solar updraft power plant" "updraft tower power plant" etc). I think a google search with "solar tower" is pretty useless, because it is going to include tons of unrelated stuff.
But trust me: Wikipedia rules! Within a few months from now you will see a proliferation of the number of hits you get with "Solar updraft tower". JdH 01:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC) "
